The Oil Crisis of the 1970's - {CLOSED}

Rado NX (First Gen, 1976-1983):

The 1973 Oil crisis caused the end of the American Muscle car as it was known. People were trading in 454 CID V8’s for puny 1.4L Inline-4s.
In a new world of economy, a sports car would be very out of place. But, Rado designed one anyway.
It is powered by a Fuel Injected NA SOHC 3.0L V6 producing 135 hp and 155 ft-lbs of torque. The engine sits in the middle, behind the driver. It redlines at 5800, as any higher and the pistons and conrods start to get damaged.
Power is sent through a 5-speed open diff manual. It was actually faster than a good many V8 Muscle cars of it’s time, getting to 62 in just 8.1 seconds, thanks to it’s low weight.
Further, it got 25 miles to the gallon and you could technically use it everyday, although you probably shouldn’t.

While my engine is powerful for its size, it’s not that fuel efficient at all and the 0-60 times aren’t great for a number of reasons. Although I predict that I’m going to be in the region of around last place, this should still be an interesting challenge.

My car is the Montes-FIAT Arexis (Montes designed the original Fiat 126p or Maluch), and the fuel consumption is near the 7.9l/100km.

Mine will probably be there with you, if it even passes since I made essentially a VW Rabbit 4X4 truck thing.

So you made a thing?
WAIT WUT…

i got mine ready, just havent sent it yet :frowning:
So is mine. I was just waiting on an answer to a question I asked a few pages ago…

Ill just let the picture speak for me.

Oh god, you made a mk1 caddy syncro.

:smiling_imp:

fricker… you guys and your car stats…

i’ll send it anyway, if he decides to dump it, so be it

i would have dominated here i think

You know i only just realized comfort isn’t even scored. XD Also, I never even touched my suspension (which may be a good thing, but I could’ve gained some driveability points at least)

@Koolkei: Hmm, well your car and the Aelia are fairly well matched except yours is cheaper, but mine still has premium seats. I like what you’ve done with the front, makes me wish that whatever causes the headlights to not show properly when on top of vents like that didn’t do that.

Oh, that went popular fast. Guess I won’t have room to enter after all!

(Not that my car was finished anyway.)

Behold, the car of the FUTURE future future future . . .

@sebs: except we have 1 more differences. im not in the competition…

Turbo+injection on '76… hmmm getting ahead of the game even if it’s in europe…
not to mention DOHC, 4 valves at that. but it’s too heavy, unfortunately

well. didn’t say that i didn’t tried it. got something around 61HP from a 1.2l and around 31US mpg.

but the drivability took a bit of a hit, and so did production units. and engineering time. soooooo nah.

so i tok my NA and make the engine smaller and SSLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR
perfect car to be loved by captain slow

I got 26MPG out of a 59hp 1.5.

N/A or turbo?

also that sound either it’s hauling a relatively heavy car, or, it likes to revs a bit.

I got 25MPG out of a 135hp 3.0L V6.

54hp (if i remember well) in a 0.8l 4 cylinder engine.

The fuel consumption is pretty good.

N/A, 800kg car, doesn’t like revving high.

looks at everyone else’s cars

Yeaaah, I only stand a chance with the “god, that’s cheap. I have to have it” consumers I guess…
