The Race to the Clouds - [DONE]

Back from the 1969 track model year, the Astral T-0 Pantamarina is ready to once again take on the pikes peak hill-climb.
After a substantial time in retirement due to a completely non-functional engine and areo package, the original structure and performance has been restored to period accuracy, so that it may once again perform for the spectators.
While its not quite the beast it was back in its day, it still packs a punch, and can definitely give the lesser-spec cars a run for their money.

Second on the Astral register, we have the new 2025 model year T2 running in the lightly modified Time-Attack 2 class. although, in a bid to prove the performance of their latest sportscar, they have selected to simply run the car as manufactured, with only minimal changes to comply with the rules and regulations. They are confident that the DCT and turbocharged I6 (a breakway from the traditional mid-mounted V6 used in their T2 cars) will give them an edge over the competition.
One things for certain however, astral has clearly struggled with trying to integrate that additional frontal grille for extra cooling, as its definitely no looker.

do with this entry as you will. Just wanted to show i put allot of work into this, with full animations, 3d modeling and engineering work and it would be tragic if it was not used.

“Implicit” doesn’t cut it on this forum; remember the golden rule.

In this case, however, the requirement was explicit:

BINS AND PENALTIES

UNLIMITED

@ce-r - #7 Lount Eilerts Competition ARC 33-HCP

Offence: Car is over the maximum budget ($201000).

Decision: Moved to the exhibition class and disqualified from the design contest.

Reason: It’s only $1000 over the maximum budget and it’s not close to the pace of the top entries.

@BababooeyGamington - #8 Apex Aileron Summit Edition

Offence: Too many aero elements (15), front tyre profile is too low (25) and uses radial race soft tyres.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Tyre related rule breaks are automatic bins. Multiple rule breaks are an automatic bin.

@Kanye_West - #10 Di Inferi Aerodinamica XPP

Offence: Uses standard 20s safety instead of advanced 20s.

Decision: Moved to the exhibition class and disqualified from the design contest.

Reason: We considered this to be a minor infraction and it’s not close to the pace of the top entries.

@sutarttt - #13 Ajaxx Proto3 Ataxx MkII

Offence: Top racing number is missing.

Decision: Number added on the front wing. Allowed to race without penalties.

Reason: Very minor infraction that has no effect on the engineering of the car.

@RyoMotoCo - #73 ID-4 PPIHC

Offence: Too much tyre quality (+5).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Tyre related rule breaks are automatic bins.

@puteeh - #99 Macron Commuter MK3

Offence: Incorrect model and family names, too many aero elements (11).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Multiple rule breaks are an automatic bin.

@Riley - #994 Zephorus Proton XR

Offence: Class name missing on model and family names, too many aero elements (11).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Multiple rule breaks are an automatic bin.

TIME ATTACK 1

@Koviico & @nvisionluminous - #33 Hultra Heracy RS Hillclimb

Offence: All engine techpool is set to 0.

Decision: No further action.

Reason: Having less techpool than allowed is a disadvantage. There’s no need to penalise this car.

@Riley - #94 Zephorus Espion ''Akuma'' by H-Power

Offence: Class name missing on model and family names, rear brake fade is too high (0.9%) and comfort is too low (4.9).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: While individually all of this are minor infractions, multiple rule breaks are an automatic bin.

TIME ATTACK 2

@AKA_NOBUDDY - #22 CBC Carrier SX Spyder

Offence: Wrong engine family name, engine techpool is not default, too many aero elements (4), has a sequential transmission and only has 2 seats.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Multiple rule breaks are an automatic bin.

HISTORIC

@AKA_NOBUDDY - #2 CBC Nasim Mk1 Race car

Offence: Wrong engine family name, techpool is lower than default, maximum quality is too high (+11), tyre quality is too high (+4) and front brake fade is too high (0.3%)

Offence: Too much tyre quality (+5).

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Tyre related rule breaks are automatic bins.

EXHIBITION

@Danicoptero - #12 DHP 6x6 Special

Offence: Rear brake fade is too high (0.4%).

Decision: Disqualified from the design contest.

Reason: If this car was on any other class, this rule break would have moved it to the exhibition class. Additionally we are more forgiving for exhibition cars.

@lotto77 - #77 Planar 9.9EX Hazel Owlsa GT1 TR-1

Offence: Maximum quality is too high (+15). An exemption for this rule wasn’t discused.

Decision: No further action.

Reason: While this is a significant advantage, the car isn’t close to the pace of the top entries and we are more forgiving for exhibition cars.

@BababooeyGamington - #40 Apex GT40 Tempest

Offence: Uses banned ATS (front and rear wheel width) and radial race soft tyres. Exemptions for this rules weren’t discused.

Decision: Entry rejected.

Reason: Tyre related rule breaks are automatic bins. Additionally, we most likely wouldn’t have allowed these rule exemptions even if we were asked.

Only read if you like geeking out over challenge rules

@Danicoptero, I didn’t end up entering this challenge, but I think you deserve some public applause for your thoughtful handling of rules violations. You clearly put significant time and effort into weighing the severity of the violations and trying to tailor a proportionate penalty, when you could have just automatically binned even the slightest rule violation and made your job easier. And you probably could have done that with little or no complaint since we have gotten accustomed around here to a standard that is equivalent to having theft of a loaf of bread punished by death. But if you ask me, (and yes, I thoroughly recognize nobody is asking me) you’re modeling the standard for how rules violations should be handled in every challenge.

This might seem like a hyper-technical point, but I am sure that those entrants who were spared a bin over minor rule violations are pleased and relieved to not see hours of work go completely to waste over something that was a minor oversight or didn’t actually give them much, if any, advantage in the competition. And we all get to enjoy seeing how a few more cars fare in the competition. Trying to make the punishment fit the crime and having some leniency makes a real difference in a place where, at the end of the day, we’re all just trying to have some fun.

Bravo!

Ow

You did better than me… just.

not the worst not the best:D

At least both my cars were equally mediocre

I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised, in hindsight: I did almost nothing with the interior of interest, and didn’t put in proper panel lines

Welp, let’s hope I do better with the actual course times.. I’ve got one of the oldest vehicles in the whole contest, so probably not gonna get a very good objective time, but hey, at least I tried

TA2 & HIS RESULTS

Special thanks to @Kreator for writing the reviews for TA2 and HIS and to @iivansmith and @chiefzach2018 for making and letting me use this RTTC logo.

Some of the cars have had their names shortened to fit on the banners. The full names are included in the standings.

TIME ATTACK 2

The first engines fire up and the Race to the Clouds finally starts. First up the mountain are the production cars from the Time Attack 2 class.

This NA I5 sports car certainly looks the part with its sleek yet aggressive design, but unfortunately its bite isn’t as strong as its bark. Finishing almost a minute and a half behind second place, this car doesn’t have the pace of the others, but at least it gets a podium.

This twin turbo V12 powerhouse crushed the peak, sporting 761 hp, an 8 speed DCT, and a whopping 4800 lb kerb weight. While this Struzzo was fast enough to beat one of the TA1 entries, it still fell short of the gold.

It did almost melt my laptop’s CPU with the amount of fixtures it had.

Eeking out the win by 2 seconds in TA2 comes the compact RWD Paragon. Even with its “old fashioned” NA V8 powertrain, it’s a pleasure to drive and easy to thrash. This sports coupe will take home the gold.

My laptop’s CPU liked this one a lot better.

HISTORIC

Up next are the historic cars. Fans will get a chance to see these classics pushed to their limits once again.

An old school pony car, the Venus may have done well back in the day. However, it fell short of its lighter and nimbler competition. The fans did love its raw 5L V8 as it ploughed up the peak, however.

Even though it’s the oldest of the Historic entries, this car looks to the future with its jet age design. Despite its high stats and flat 6 sitting over the rear axle, it didn’t have the raw pace of the faster cars, so this futuristic coupe will settle for 4th.

The newest Historic entry that raced, this nimble coupe rocketed its way into 3rd by a considerable margin. Sporting ample power from its 5L V8 and a low kerb weight, it’s easy to see why. However, its low stats held it back from placing higher.

A lightweight speedster with a mid mounted V12 sounds like it would be a winner, but it only placed 2nd amongst the Historic entries. Had the Nashwar not tried to kill its driver multiple times during its run, it may have scored a win. Although, the onboard footage will be spectacular once it goes live.

While the cutesy appearance may make it look like a hairdresser’s car, this is a true Wolfe in sheep’s clothing. The only FWD entry across the Historic class, this little rocket dragged its way into 1st with its miniscule kerb weight and busy little flat 4. A fantastic performance from an unassuming competitor.

What’s 9+10?

My OOC commentary on the Historic and TA2 Results that raced up thy cloud:

Time Attack 2

#78 Halvson G5Z Hyper Harrier TA2

Looks like a muscle car, but has an I5 with a healthy 441 HP. The high kerb weight and low power really hurt it here in my opinion. While Xepy’s was considerably heavier, it was also much more powerful and boasted better drivability and sportiness stats. Perhaps a turbo would’ve put this car higher on the leaderboard.

#47 Tristella Struzzo GTM (Performante Pacchetto)

I was tempted to enter my Grand Deluxe in this class, and based on how well this car did, it may have turned out well. I’m impressed the very large, heavy wagon was able to move this quickly. Then again, with over 700 HP, it may not have been as hard as I thought. Still, a worthy achievement nonetheless, especially for such a behemoth.

In case you’re wondering, it did take about 2 minutes for my laptop to load this thing and yes, its temperature did increase substantially when I was judging it.

#81 Mara-AMM Paragon 4.6 PP

While the design may not have been fantastic, it had effort where it counted. If it’s true that this car was a speedrun, then I’m even more impressed with how it did. Perhaps with some more tweaking, it would’ve done even better.

Historic

#14 Alcaeus Venus GT 307 Spec II

Personally, I’m quite disappointed this one didn’t do better. I thought for sure the muscle powerplant and small(ish) stature would’ve produced a podium finish, but somehow it didn’t. Maybe the high kerb weight held it back. It did look fantastic though, and I love it for that.

#97 Holstmann Interceptor (Pronto Bronto)

I love the styling theme and the unorthodox RR setup, but it didn’t quite have the merit to pull off a strong finish or the detail for a truly outstanding design. With some more practice, both will improve over time, and I can’t wait to see what else lies in store from Holstmann.

#64 Mara Irena 5.0 Letara RX

This one took the Venus’s formula and dialed it up further with an identical sized engine in a much smaller and lighter body, and the results do show with a podium. Was it the best styled car in Historic? No, but it punched harder than I expected it to. I also didn’t realize this one had a V8 until after I logged its impressive time.

#888 DCMW Nashwar Superiority Twelve R

How this MR V12 speedster didn’t win is, on paper, a mystery. However, this car’s driveability was very low, and if the Nashwar was a little easier to drive, it would’ve come home with the gold. Either the car needs to be tamer, or they need to find a better driver.

#21 Wolfe Rocket 1600 Pike Peaks Special

I was shocked when this little bath toy clocked the fastest Historic time. As a tiny FWD with a flat 4, this car defied conventional thinking and took the Historic win. From the vehicles I judged, this was the only FWD car in the mix, and likely the only FWD car on the whole entry list. Job well done.

Yes, the puns in the results post were intentional.

Rip my historical entry placed last tbh it’s probably the best the australians I mean the Americans managed to do with their 5 liter V8 mowdur in their pony car.

Well, 2s gap against an actual sports car is not bad. Curious if there were any entries that were heavier lol
