For this year’s Pikes Peak, Planar has brought a slightly unusual Exhibition entry; the recently rediscovered Hazel Owlsa TR-1 GT1 prototype.
Originally designed to tackle the big guns in GT1 with an unconventional ground effect design used on a regular Hazel Owlsa base, the TR-1 was pretty far ahead for its time, but would end up cancelled after not only was it found that it was bad at keeping the ground effect going on bumpy roads, and was poor when following cars, but the delays to fix those issues meant it was no longer competitive.
So, the car was placed into storage underneath Planar’s racing HQ and largely forgotten about, only to be rediscovered in 2022, and given a full restoration over the next three years, to start doing demo runs and historic races this year.
The Time Attack 2 entry: the 2025 G5Z series Halvson Hyper Harrier TA2
Halvson’s entry this year is more subdued, with a brand new G5Z Hyper Harrier lightly modified to fit the Time Attack 2 rules (the most notable is a tuned version of Halvson’s ubiquitous PATH five cylinder, replacing the stock hybrid V10 as it would’ve put it above the class’ power-to-weight limit).
In 1953, a young Dave Norton took victory in the Muriwai Beach Hillclimb in his custom-built Powers 8 race car, kicking off the great legacy of Norton motorsports.
Now, more than 70 years later, the Norton name returns to the hillclimb stage - this time, to take on the world-famous Race to the Clouds.
Modeled after the Norton Arcalis concept, Project Muriwai takes an unrestricted 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 and mates it to two custom-designed Arkzero electric motors on the front axle, producing a combined system output of 1,630 horsepower.
Combined with the hypercar-specification chassis, and Class One-inspired aerodynamic package producing in excess of 2 tons of downforce, Project Muriwai beats both the current ICE and EV Pikes Peak records by a significant margin.
i was not aware and add was mandatory. i have checked and Re-checked the rules and there doesn’t seem to be a clause indicating that.
if required i can whip one up immediately, but it wont be pretty.
it was of my understanding that the add was an optional and non-required feature (seeming as it has no impact on the performance of the car), and that if you were to make one, it simply needed to be submitted in that time frame.
so that all posts were made in a timely manor? i dont really know, that also confused me, but i received absolutely 0 reply when i said “i may not make an add for this entry” when i submitted, which if it was mandatory, youd expect would have been highlighted then.
regardless of all of that (and please forgive the terrible pictures, as they are all i had on hand):
