The Race to the Clouds - [RULES DELIBERATION]

For years, it was though that no one could beat Loeb's record. But then on June 2018 Dumas got this run. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

THE RACE TO THE CLOUDS

A Pikes Peak Challenge by @Danicoptero & @Kreator

The perilous Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Steep cliffs, tight hairpins, and a 10,000 foot elevation climb has made this course famous the world over. For over a century, this narrow passage scything through the Rockies has proven to be one of the ultimate testing grounds of man and machine, and now it’s your turn to run it. Will you conquer the run and be immortalized in motorsport history, or will you fall short and be relegated to a footnote?

HOW IT WORKS

The important stats for this challenge are:

  • Lap time: The most important thing is getting a fast time.
  • Drivability: If the car is too hard to drive, the driver will make more mistakes and you will lose more time.
  • Sportiness: How much the car can be pushed. A higher sportiness will improve your base time.

You can check the effects of your stats on this spreadsheet.

Some other stats like reliability or comfort might require a minimum target depending on your class.

After the submission period closes, results will be published in several posts following this order:

  • Entry List for the race and Bins.
  • Design Contest
  • Race Results (One post dedicated to each class).

THE TRACK

Made by @strop a decade ago.

Your time is the sector 2 time, not the final time.

The record was beaten in 2018 by Romain Dumas in the Volkswagen I.D.R, but since Loeb still holds the combustion engine record, it’s still relevant.

GENERAL RULES

These apply to all classes:

  • Trim and variant year: 2020 (Except Historic cars).
  • No open wheel or legacy bodies.
  • The looks of the car should fit the class it’s entered in. I won’t ask for specific fixtures but be reasonable.
  • Default techpool (Everything +5).
  • No negative quality.
  • Maximum quality: +10.
  • No tyre quality.
  • V16s are allowed but tell us if your car has one. I don’t have the DLC but @Kreator does.
  • Nithromethane and leaded fuels are banned.
  • Maximum sportiness brake fade is 0%.

  • Toe limit is +/-0.5.
  • Numbers have to be placed on both sides and on top of the car (either on the hood or on the roof) . You can reserve up to two numbers from 0-999. Taken numbers.
  • The following advanced settings are banned: Wheel width, wheel diameter, tyre width, tyre diameter, and camber. Everything else is allowed, but don’t make the car into something it isn’t (unless it’s allowed by the rules of that class or you have special permission).
  • Meme entries will be binned without mercy. Same goes for abusing glitches.
  • There’s a bug where sometimes the car rolls over if you have too much cornering speed no matter how much downforce you have. This makes your car have 0 drivability, but you can see the actual stat in detailed stats.

It’s not stated in the rules, but this challenge is on stable, right? Kinda goes without saying given that open beta doesn’t really support custom tracks yet (especially not ones made a decade ago).

Yes, it’s on the stable version.

I would like to formally request the number ‘56’ be allocated to me. Currently I do not have any definitive plans for two entries, but if I do end up deciding to I will request a second number at that time.

This, combined with the universal +5 techpool allocation across all areas, should be enough to keep everyone on a level playing field.

excuse me 30L/100km??? minimum or maximum?

I think it might be badly worded. I assume it means “At most”. A minimum in MPG would make more sense, but since the curve is inverted in L/100km, maximum would be adequate here: Max 30 L/100km / Min 7.84 US mpg

Yeah, that could have been worded better.

I’ll change it to max 30L/100km.

By “Radial hard slicks” you mean Radial Race Hard, r8?

Yes.

I’ve made some changes to the advanced setting rules:
