TMCC37 - Back Road Hustling (FINISHED!)

TMCC37 - Back Road Hustling.
Storyline.

Louisiana, 1992.
Back Road Hustling is a series following the main character, Dustin Shelby, using his beloved rally inspired ride to do his various (somewhat illegal, mostly illegal) deeds, like doing courier runs for weapons, drugs, etc. and to outrun the police on any surface he finds himself on when he eventually does get involved in a chase. He is a petrol head at heart and loves his cars to death as they are his main way to earn the money he does. He grew up watching rallying and so then fell in love with the road cars that was spawned through rally and always dreamt of having one himself one day.
Fast forward to the present day, he is a well known asset around these parts and due to him making a name for himself through getting a lot of jobs done and earning tons of money he was able to get himself one of his dream rally inspired rides and absolutely loves outrunning the police all the time.

Priorities.

:star::star::star::star:

Design.

Dustin loves cars, and knows a lot about them, so he would love a good looking ride. He does not care to stand out to police.
(You can handle the design as if you are designing a Rally Homologation model)

Realism.

The car must look and perform like it can exist in real life, just make sure to add headlights, taillights, indicators, wipers, etc. Also era correct please.
(Also please make a ROAD car NOT A RACE CAR.)

:star::star::star:

Drive.

Dustin needs a car that can handle, his frequent run-ins with the police require a car that he can really throw around with confidence.

Sport.

A quick & sporty car will obviously help a lot in said police chases.
(I will just use the sportiness stat here, don’t worry about top speed & cornering, etc.)

Prestige.

As Dustin knows what’s Hot & what’s not in the car industry, he wants a car with some weight behind the name, a future classic if you will. He also does not care to stand out to the police either, a cool car is way more important than being incognito.

Offroad.

Dustin frequents Louisiana which has a lot of dirt & gravel roads, and having a car with some rally pedigree would help A LOT.
(I’m not looking or expecting a 90 score here, any offroad score would help, even a 10 or 15 for example)

:star::star:

Reliability.

Dustin would not want the car to break down while being chased by police now would he.

Safety.

Pretty self explanatory, IF it would happen that Dustin gets a few bumps from police cars he would want to know that he & the car would be okay. (relatively)

Fuel Eco.

Same as reliability, but running out of fuel during a chase would just be embarrassing really.

:star:

Price.

Dustin is a big baller and does not care about spending his cash on a prestigious ride.

Service Costs.

Again, big baller and knows a lot about cars so he should be able to fix things himself.

The rule set brings to mind a Group A-themed sequel to TMCC34… but with road cars, not race/rally cars.

I take that as “minimum 2.40m wheelbase exactly, maximum 2.70m wheelbase exactly”.

Neither of these were likely to be found (if they were at all) on the inspirations you cited. ABS may be used, though, as far as I am aware.

Does this also apply to lips? I’m sure it should, to avoid aero cheese.

That’s the combined techpool sum, as expected.

I’m not sure if 2-door coupes actually need 3 rear seats (either full-size or +3) - they should be able to have either 2 or 3 seats in their rear row, regardless of whether or not they’re full-sized.

from 1988 untill 1992 ?

No, it would be 2.35m upwards to 2.74 i believe

Yes.

Yes, will just specify that

I believe most of the cars in this segment had Casette Radios.

A '93 Lancer Evo 1 for instance had this:

Even '00 Evo 6’s still used Casette Radios:

So I’d suggest to consider changing that rule.

Btw the Evo from the Inspirations is a '95/96 Evo 3. Exactly the same that Jackie Chan used in Thunderbolt.

Will update that one, thank you

Makes sense given that the normal unlock year for standard CD (with 0 interior/infotainment techpool) is 1998 - to get that in 1992, you would’ve needed +6 techpool in interior/infotainment. I’m sure Dustin would appreciate it if someone somehow squeezed a CD player into their entry, though.

The Escort Cosworth listed as inspiration did produce positive downforce at both ends, but it was an outlier. I’m still in favor of not allowing any positive downforce at either end to avoid aero cheese (even with the aero fixture limits), though.

That wheelbase range makes more sense to me - it allows more variety in body set choices.

As for regulations regarding turbo engines: I’m suggesting a complete ban on boost control and twin-scroll/variable geometry turbos (although conventional wastegates and standard geometry turbos will be OK), for the sake of balancing and realism.

Also, comfort is somehow not listed as a judging criterion - I think it should be a 2-star priority at least.

yeah idk about this one, especially if you wanna use a coupe body, a lot of those can’t fit 5 full seats and are limited to +2 in the rear, much like the body i’m using lol

No, i’m very much sure if youre being chased by police that you will not care about comfort at all.

are interiors judged?

You may make one if you wish to do so, though.

And with sportiness and offroad being 3-star priorities, it might make sense to strike a balance between the two, given that sports tires are useless off-road but very grippy on tarmac, while all-terrain tires are less effective on tarmac but much more useful on unsealed surfaces.

Just to prove a point, I fitted my test mule with all-terrain tires, an offroad skidtray and a higher ride height for better off-road capability, whereas a tarmac-focused version would have had a lower ride height, sports tires, and no undertray.

Wouldn’t mind doing design for someone, probably wouldn’t enter otherwise.

In that case, I’m willing to accept your offer, since I have a test mule for this challenge on hand.

Send me a dm with the mule on the car body and I’ll do a design. You can just copy the fixtures over onto the finished product later.

That’s sorted, then. I’ve made up my mind regarding my choice of base body set (and morphing settings) by now. And although a interior will neither be required or judged, I will give you the option of fitting a fully detailed one if you can (and want to) do so.

Please keep in mind the the mule I am about to send you already has a front-mounted lip and a rear-mounted spoiler - if you wish to replace either (or both) of these fixtures, make sure that they are from the same category as the original ones (front lip with front lip, rear spoiler with rear spoiler, etc.)

I’d argue off road skidtray and manual locker should be banned, these never showed up on sports cars the challenge is asking for
Also I’d want to lower off road priority, off road in the game isn’t just gravel but also rock crawling and stuff and it would very hard to get a high enough off road the challenge is asking while making a sports car

Maybe trying to stay above a certain value for offroad like 10 or something, just so its not a really low value and still reflects some capability.

In that case, I’d demote offroad to a 1- or 2-star priority.
