TMCC37 - Back Road Hustling (FINISHED!)

For a low effort entry, I am a bit surprised (and fully satisfied) with a top 10 placement

Is it that bad on driving and sportiness? I tried it in Beam, and it handles extremely well. Or was that just based on the in-game stats? I had to compromise on raw driveability/sportiness stats to maintain a soft enough suspension that it had reasonable off road with the Sport Compound tires.

Maintenance was the lowest concern, he would be working on it himself after all. Cost was also a very low priority.

Here’s where I do admit that was part of the joke - it was inspired by the badge engineering of the mid 80’s to mid-90’s, where American automakers just resold European/Japanese brands under a different name/appearance. In this case it was a hodgepodge of Japanese, German, Scandanavian, and French, with the only unique thing being an appearance inspired by early 90’s Buicks. Buidge Monegal was a portmanteau of Buick Regal (for styling cues) and Dodge Monaco (the only American automaker to sell a car with the PRV that I used as the basis for the engine).

Eh, a rushed rework of a rushed and uninspired previous entry, not surprised it didn’t get into the top 10. Now I just need to export it to Beam and see how much of a death trap it really is…

Humm maybe I should have put sport tyres on the Falperra, still happy to be eleventy first (or something) :slight_smile:

Wacky shit is the best way to express what CBC does as a car company. The struggling car company managed to make the cheapest and lest sporty car out of a economy sedan. thanks for having me, tho, quite a bashing review (harsh but true)…

This is all based on stats, beam is not used much here on the forums.

Yes but when most of the cars have better stats while being cheaper and having half the service costs then it’s something to mention.

Really -_- lol.

I didnt notice i removed abs (i do this some times)? Ah well. Good work on the eveent, its been fun.

I’m not sure I understand how larger profile 16" wheels are a problem… You wanted a 10-15 offroad rating, and the wheel choice of the era were 15-16"… That, plus Subaru Blue isn’t that crazy of a color… It’s actually an OEM color

The wheels are visually big, i didn’t mention their actual sizes because that doesn’t matter when you’re talking about how it looks visually, like there’s barely any travel inside the wheel arches they’re so big

And no… You did not give me Subaru’s blue or gold, yours is way more vibrant

Round 2

P10

@Knugcab - 1992 Strenus Sylphide HT-4

image

The steel bodied Sylphide looks the business, with its OZ Racing rims, big foglights, big wheel arches and wing just make it look like you can stick on some racing numbers and go straight into a rally stage, however despite all this, it has the worst off-road rating out of any of the cars in the pack, which is sad considering the rest of the stats are pretty decent and above average, but unfortunately this boxer powered hatch falls just short in this super close top 10 battle.

Notes - Gimme one with a Martini livery plz.

P9

@the-chowi - 1992 Pleiades Legend RSt-R

image

The Legend is yet another boxer entry with a full steel body, however this one is a lot higher up on the off-road stat list thanks to its all-terrain tires and skid tray and trophy truck ground clearance Again most of the stats are above average but lost out on the infamous sport stat. The looks are a bit questionable, or more so the proportions - it looks quite bulky with it’s big wheels and rather large and blocky greenhouse, but besides the proportions the front & rear ends look nice and are well built.

Notes - Lowering springs would make this regular height i think.

P8

@Boiled_Steak - 1992 Aria Audencia RS

image

Welcome the cheapest car in the challenge by quite a decent margin, coming in at only $19400. Scoring highly in design with its typical blob-like features and muscular proportions (+ OZ Rims) the Audencia definitely is great value for money unfortunately that wasnt a big factor here Engineering wise its just about average in the drive & sport categories as many other entries here and just slightly above average elsewhere, but looks and realism are king here.

Notes - Hold up, this shit fire.

P7

@abg7 + @Riley - 1992 AMS Argyle 2.0T ZRD

image

The Argyle is a handsome little sedan with a (very popular engine in this challenge) 2L inline 4 turbo and all-round well balanced, realistic engineering choices with nothing “special” to note really, everything is as you would expect it to be - in fact it has the 2nd highest drivability and reliability stats! unfortunately, that is balanced out by having one of the lowest sportiness stats of all the entrants, overall though this is a good entry, but the competition is very tight and smaller things start to matter a lot more

Notes - Honestly not much to say really, both design & engineering is pretty solid.

P6

@Xepy - 1992 Kaufmann Viera GTS

This handsome, boxy turbocharged 2+2 coupe is quite the looker with its great silhouette and original gangster style box fenders to give it a very rally-bred feel. With its healthy 280hp and fully cladded underside the Viera scores highly in drivability and ever so slightly just misses out on having the highest sportiness of the lot. The biggest reasons of only ending up in P6 is having lower reliability, higher price & service costs than the ones ahead.

Notes - The wing does look ever-so-slightly odd but that would be my one complaint.

P5

@vero94773 + @Kyorg - 1992 Sentinel Peregrine 310

image

The Peregrine is a quirky beast, powered by its 295hp 3.1L N/A V6 up front and exotic styling, its sure to make its presence known on the screen. Unlike Forza Motorsport this one is built very nearly completely from the ground up, very detailed and looks the part. While slightly missing out on some points in drivability & sportiness all the other stats are right near the top, but it can flex being the 2nd cheapest car to maintain out of all and having saving s decent chunk from the budget, but overall its good and well built.

Notes - I still don’t like 3-spokes!

P4

@donutsnail - TurbĂłl j30 4xAll Turbo 16v

image

The Turbol is a absolute stunner and looks right at home on the rally stages, but i can also see the compete in some touring car action with how low & sporty it is even with a modest 211hp, speaking of how sporty it is - no it doesnt have the highest sportiness rating, but it does have the highest drivability of them all. Unfortunately the low, sporty looks does come with a downside and that is having the 2nd lowest off-road rating, otherwise this is a very good entry at a decent price but also a quite high service costs compared to the others.

Notes - I want one in red please.

Finals will be posted in a bit

Then again, it might be due to my decision to sacrifice sportiness at the altar of off-road capabilities - dumping the skid tray and upgrading to high-performance (instead of medium) tires would’ve helped in that regard, but those changes would have been reserved for a different trim level or option package. As things stand, however, it would make a great choice for newcomers to the rally scene, with its superb ease of use and robust mechanicals - but eventually they’ll want to graduate to something faster and nimbler.

Boy oh boy where do I even begin. Lebron… honey, my pookie bear. I have loved you ever since I first laid eyes on you. The way you drive into the paint and strike fear into your enemies eyes. Your silky smooth touch around the rim, and that gorgeous jumpshot. I would do anything for you. I wish it were possible to freeze time so I would never have to watch you retire. You had a rough childhood, but you never gave up hope. You are even amazing off the court, you’re a great husband and father, sometimes I even call you dad. I forvever dread and weep, thinking of the day you will one day retire. I would sacrifice my own life it were the only thing that could put a smile on your beautiful face. You have given me so much joy, and heartbreak over the years. I remember when you first left clevenland and its like my heart got broken into a million pieces. But a tear still fell from my right eye when I watched you win your first ring in miami, because deep down, my glorious king deserved it. I just wanted you to return home. Then allas, you did, my sweet baby boy came home and I rejoiced. 2015 was a hard year for us baby, but in 2016 you made history happen. You came back from 3-1 and I couldn’t believe it. I was crying, bawling even, and I heard my glorious king exclaim these words,
“CLEVELAND, THIS IS FOR YOU!” Not only have you changed the game of basketball and the world forever, but you’ve eternally changed my world. And now you’re getting older, but still the goat, my goat. I love you pookie bear, my glorious king, Lebron James.

@yurimacs - 1992 Bradford Tamika RR

The Tamika a fantastic ride, $5K under budget and amazing stats all the way through (while not being the best in anything) is amazing value for money. Using the popular 2L inline 4 turbo with 280hp the Tamika has the 2nd highest drivability stat, though only 5th in the sportiness category - basically top 5 in every category instead of off-road. But here, visuals & realism count the most, and the Tamika scores very highly in both of those being tied 3rd on the visual score - the build looks amazing, instant rally vibes and of course it has rally wing.jpeg to help with that aspect even more, no complaints on the exterior at all.

Notes - This will be stanced on TE37s in 2024.

@karhgath + @Fantic2000 - 1992 Hirona Hikari RS

Now onto the Hikari, we find a different story from the Tamika - where the Tamika isn’t the best at anything, the Hikari is the best in quite a few categories - sportiness, off-road, fuel economy and service costs, wow all this for $3K under budget as well, craziness. When we get to the visuals we get a slightly different story, my main issue is the wheelbase, which surprisingly, is longer than A LOT of the cars in the challenge, even some sedans - which kind of makes the small hatch longer than it should be, but other than this the design & overall details is very good.

Notes - I feel this could’ve done with some more plastics with red stripes on them.

P?

@Koviico + @nvisionluminous - 1992 Arima Senar SR

Lastly we have the Senar, which i straight up will say, is my absolute favorite design of the entire competition, this thing looks absolutely gorgeous - this 100% would’ve gotten a perfect score, but alas, the brake discs are about 20cm deep into the rims (yes i had to nitpick to find something wrong) but genuinely i love this, very iconic Japanese style. Onto the engineering, the Senar is a good performer in all the categories, not the best of course, does slack behind the best but still good (notably 3rd best in drivability) and also $3K under budget - but the service costs is also the 2nd highest of all…

Notes - Thank you.

Thank you all for entering and congrats to the winner!

Which is…

A fitting conclusion to the challenge, with a worthy winner being crowned. Had this been an AGC, the entire top 10 would have been featured in the game, and the top 3 featured on the cover, with the winning car placed front and center. Even so, this isn’t just one of the best TMCC rounds I have ever seen; it’s one of the best challenges ever, period. In fact, it’s raised the bar very high for TMCC38, regardless of what theme it will be centered around.

Congratulations to everyone who particpated, and particularly good game to all those in the top 10, this was certainly a very tough competition as it should be.

Give me 3 - 7 days to set everything up, and you should be able to see a challenge post up by then!
