1992 Pleiades Legend RSt-R

With a 240 hp turbocharged 2.1 liter boxer engine, permanent AWD with viscous differentials, a six-speed manual gearbox and a widened, aggressive bodykit, the Legend RSt-R is a proper rally special for the road. Equipped with the gravel package, it gets softer, longer travel suspension, metal underbody protection, mud flaps and a more off-road focused set of tires.

TurbĂłl j30 4xAll Turbo 16v

Details

Turból introduced the compact j30 in 1985 to the burgeoning compact executive market, and the first of Turból’s mainstream models to use the 4xAll full-time AWD system. Upon the cancellation of Group B, the j30 found itself in the top rung of the WRC. While many companies did not have a suitable Group A car right off the bat, Turból had the j30 ready to go with AWD and a 1.8 liter, turbocharged, 12 valve “DualTech” inline 4. Though it was reasonably successful, a certain Italian car moved the game on quite quickly. 1990 would see the first major refresh of the j30, and with that brought a number of updates inside and out, including refreshed styling, new rear suspension, and an all new 2 liter, DOHC 16 valve engine, greatly improving its competitiveness on the rally stages. The j30 would also showcase Turból’s technological advancements in suspension and AWD implementation.

Love the look of that '92 Sausalito (especially its headlight lenses). If I’m not mistaken, those are part of the Some Interior Parts mod pack (specifically, one of the DS-like variants). I like how the DS-like headlight cluster’s shape makes it well-suited for many cars from the '90s (and even the early '00s, or the late '80s if you’re feeling brave) when you play with its scaling and rotation. You can even make it behave like a modular light fixture by setting its material slots (except for the first two - the frame and lens) to transparent, and inserting other modular headlight components within it.

And regarding the car itself, it’s quite brave to go for the fiberglass-clad steel spaceframe approach to a body/chassis material combination (which reminds me of a contemporary TVR in terms of body construction) - fingers crossed it pays off.

@HelloHi - 1992 Alira Sausalito R

image

I dont even know where to begin with this ngl. if anyhing his should be a realism bin.
Hell, a flatplane V8 powered hatch with fibreglass panels, spaceframe, rear pushrod suspension attached to 295mm square wheel setup? i’m aware this was a rush job, but gah damn lmao
I cannot judge this tbh, it wouldnt even be street legal because it has no mirrors or wipers

Not much else to say i think.

Notes - Yeeoooooohhhh

@asdren asdren - Beaumont V350 Grand Rallier

This is quite a decent entry, a handsome 2+2 coupe powered by a big 'ol 4L V6 that sits behind the rear axle
 interesting choice here, but besides this the V350 isn’t compromised too much. Drive is a little lacking because of this though, having nearly the lowest number here - however the pack is quite close on the lower end. Further the V350 has the 3rd highest offroad capability, with its skid tray for the drivetrain, all terrain tires and a decent ride height helping it out in this case. The V350 also finds itself on the cheaper between the competition, being the 2nd cheapest option - pretty good value for money too, unfortunately budget was not a big priority, otherwise this well designed, overall coherent build, couldve been higher up.

Notes - With a long nose like this the V350 was begging for a front mount V6!

@fabiremi999 - Catelletto Marea GTR

image

Next up we have the Marea GTR, another solid looking entry. Honestly the engineering choices are pretty well thought out and era accurate and i don’t have much to mention because of that, however - This car very very nearly fills out all the budget with its single turbo inline 5, a case where a inline 4 might’ve worked more in your favor, but of course you do get that beautiful inline 5 exhaust note, which of course would be memorable in a TV series. Good news with the quite expensive ride is that it offers the highest reliability out of the whole lot, by a decent amount as well. Other than than, this is quite a nice looking ride with no complaints on the exterior.

Notes - Okay maybe one complaint, a brighter color would help this one a lot.

@Rubensls - Campodoro Falperra 2.0TR

image

Another inline 5 entrant, this time with a bit more power. A sinister looking sedan with with decent stats across the board, mostly falling short in the drive & sport categories, but holding its old nonetheless.
Visually the Falperra is pretty well done, nice details that are unfortunately hidden by the black paint.
Nitpicking a bit but the font on the side stripe does look quite cartoony and takes away a bit from the overall look. The wheels also seem quite large visually, but that might be down to the body itself being quite small, other than that theres not much left to say, very nice entry i’d say.

Notes - Honestly this was quite close to the top 10, so small improvements here and there would’ve gotten it there.

@smorgesborg - 1992 Buidge Monegal

image

The Monegal is an interesting one for sure, even though its powered by a 350hp twin turbo V6 with cooling flaps with a sporty undertray it misses the mark on both drive and sportiness. Surprisingly its not the least capable entry we have, despite also running on sport compound tires and a borderline track focused suspension setup. The Monegal is however crowned as the most expensive to maintain out of the bunch at nearly $3K, does not help much that it also comes in at only $100 under budget. Now, design is a bit iffy - a few decade old luxobarge rims coupled with mirrors from the same car presumably, and the cast alloy “paint” is not helping one bit.

Notes - The design aspect is a bit all over the place but
 yeah, that.

@IJN_Yamato - 1992 KVT Kitsunebi RA Turbo

image

“Not a good looker, but a good driver” - We shall see. it’s average
Being the first boxer 4 entry, the KVT is a good example of an average car (not in a bad way) it does everything with a decent amount of ease but doesn’t excel in anything, however it is quite expensive for what you get - which doesn’t help. Onto the visual side the KVT plays it quite safe overall but doesn’t really look memorable like some other “plain” cars can - the massive name in the rear also doesn’t help this much as it kinda makes it look cartoonish, especially in the pic above.

Notes - You made the Tayor Swift of this challenge

@xsneakyxsimx - Hemsley Meteor HTX Evoluzione

image

The Meteor is our first of two RWD entries, this one being powered by a rear mounted boxer 4 with nearly 320hp, this should be a hell of a handful on this short wheelbase. And as expected the drivability & sports stats are lacking once again like a few entries before and also sporting the 3rd lowest offroad score despite running all-terrain tires. It is quite a bit under budget but unfortunately that does not help it here. Visually the Meteor is not bad per say, however it does look quite dated overall.

Notes - I suspect it would need a bigger intake on the side to cool this down

@Maverick74 - 1992 Torschalla Kattunge Turbo

image

The Kattunge is quite a looker, slightly stubby proportions with a really nice & coherent looking design overall, even though the rear taillights are super low on the rear end (it should consider wearing a bandana). Powered by a lively boxer 4 the Kattunge surprisingly lacks in the drive and sport categories again, sadly also lacking on the offroad category despite having a skid tray and utility tires - however this is the safest entry of them all by a decent margin, unfortunately despite this it won’t be saving itself from the rest of the stats.

Notes - Should really consider that bandana.

Ran out of space on the first post

@Happyhungryhippo - 1992 Yamaguchi Zen WRC STX

image

Now straight of the bat, the Zen looks quite a bit off with how its proportioned, its the biggest car we have received and boy is it long, car the long way, if you will. Long bonnet, low roof, thin body and tall ride height look quite funky, not even to mention the gold accents, which wouldnt look bad in theory, but not allocated to the parts where they were. Stats wise its lacking in the same areas as the other entrants so far, but also costing nearly the full budget and having a high service cost too, which does not help its case.

Notes - How does this big boi sedan only have a 2+3 seating arrangement?

@AKA_NOBUDDY - CBC Tanner

image

Tanner (no affiliation with Mr Foust) is a interesting fellow, starting with the wacky shit

Tanner has fiberglass body panels that surround his steel chassis, housing a transverse mounted iniline 4 which sends power to a solid rear axle (yes) and running a staggered tire setup as well, he has it all - besides that though it is quite a standard
 oh wait, no TP allocated
 and the worst sportiness of all to boot. Pricing wise its quite cheap, but that does come with quite a hefty service bill.

Notes - Design wise its very plain, and the wing is quite out of place - but its serviceable, the idea is there.

@thpethalk - 1992 Apex Innovations Racing: SSX200 RXE

image

Powered by its high revving inline 4, the SSX200 performs quite decent overall - sportiness & reliability being its biggest downfalls along with its $34900 cost and high service costs. But the visuals is where its a bit interesting, for one the wheels are not only massive but also staggered, which doesnt help your costs - while not looking out of place per say, the front end does look sad. The rear end is very much early 2000’s tuner scene though, and does seem quite out of place on this sort of car & era (however it is done quite well despite that) and lastly the colors are quite intense, very in your face & bold, which
 could be perceived as good to some

Notes - Wheels are just massive innit.

@Isabella - Hexe Jocelyn R Edition

image

Another inline 5 entry, sitting longitudinally in this hatch - which is probably made possible by have a space frame chassis
 but besides that the Jocelyn is suffering from the same drive & sport issues as a lot of the previous challengers. Notably the Jocelyn has the 2nd highest offroad score out of all which i would hope seeing as it has monster truck fitment and wheels that very very nearly poke out from the body speaking of those all-terrain tires, they are massively staggered, running 235 & 295. But this is also one of two cars to use the full budget, which again, cannot justify its price at all.

Notes - The nose/bonnet on this is very very cluttered compared to the rest of the body.

@PhirmEggplant - Truffle Motors - Falcone SC1600

image

Who done brought the pimp-mobile??? The Falcone is yet another interesting entry being one of two to use an automatic transmission while driving the rear wheels only
 and also uses the illusive fiberglass body panels - not much makes sense on this build, like having electric steering, the auto transmission as mentioned, but then not having ABS? it is plagued by interesting engineering choices as you can gather - having quite low stats across the board, best part is the $25600 pricetag.
Design wise
 confusion erupts - a decent front end, but then you see suicide doors and find massive lettering on the rear, weird.

Notes - All over the place to say the least

__

@Mausil - Reaper (real)

image

Simply known as the Reaper, this steel bodied coupe is coming for your pockets as it used up all the budget BUT it does have the highest prestige out of all the cars here! unfortunately the way it got there is interesting
 powered by a 3.2L V8, that only had just over $3m allocated to its techpool, and driving all the wheels through an auto transmission this coupe actually has decent drive (big amounts of camber) but also lacks sportiness. Looking at it, and looking at how it was built, this feels more like a performance muscle car rather than a rally inspired build.

Notes - 8-lug rims (eagle screeches in background)

Next round will be the Top 10
