Speaking of weight how did everyone get their cars so light, I couldn’t afford carbon fiber chassis it’s so expensive
using a carbon fiber chassis lol
Use small car and somewhat light components and you’ll have a go-kart
Quali race 2 premieres now! Enjoy THRS Season 5 - Qualification Race 2 - YouTube
and these are the standings after 2 qualification races!
Looks like a 2 horse race up front, but the HFF, Rally Machine and Mara all still have a chance of qualifying
Alright, I want to make an announcement about the way the competition is held, specifically the allowable time gap in order to qualify.
You know, I always like to try different formats, different elements to the competition in order to keep things fresh and the qualification is one such thing. That said, since I’ve never done this before I had no idea what the numbers should be. So I looked to real motorsports and the “1s per minute of lap time” rule made sense to me. After all, in F1 for example, if pole position is 1:30 anyone who’s 1.5s or more behind pole will likely not stand any chance in the race and might not even score. And I expected the fastest car in qualification stage to total a time of about 4:50 so I rounded that up to 5 minutes, with 5s seeming like enough of a margin to separate the good cars from the rest.
However, firstly these are not F1 cars but rally cars that have to perform on different surfaces with only one suspension/tyre setup. And secondly, this is not a high-budget global competition where there’s a lot of money and fame to be gained from winning. As a result, I think the 5s margin is too narrow and I will increase it by 50%, so now the maximum allowable gap from 1st place in order to qualify is 7.5s.
Had I left it at 5s, there is a very real chance we only see 2 cars in the main competition and that’s not gonna be interesting to watch no matter how difficult the tracks are. Truth be told, the HFF, Rally Machine and Mara are all really good cars and should be in the final. And at the end of the day, I do these competitions not only for my own but also the viewers’ enjoyment and having more cars in the video that are all very capable can only be a good thing. So that’s why now the threshold increases to 7.5s from 5s.
107% of the total lap time, so it’s a bit more of a granular scale, just as a point of pedantry.
I’m a bit late posting here, but qualification race 3 will be postponed by 1 week due to an unfortunate work schedule. So the race will be uploaded next Saturday at 6pm CEST.
A little bit late, but here’s the Outtakes from Quali race 3 https://youtube.com/shorts/sbqC7mPJeE8?feature=share
Alright, here’s the video for Qualification Race 3! https://youtu.be/VUl4DcLTA84
Some surprising results this time, not only with Gridghost winning by well over 1s but also the Rally Machine falling behind by almost 6 seconds.
As a result, these are the results of the Qualifying round as a whole (cars in red are eliminated):
The times are reset now after the Qualification, so the clock starts at 0 for all the remaining cars in the main competition. The tracks will be as follows:
- Jungle Rock Island Peninsula Stage (Tarmac)
- Rally Land Temperate SS5 (Dirt)
- Atoll Rally Stage 2 (Mixed)
The runs will be timed, and the times will be added together to determine the overall winner
Alright, it’s race time! https://youtu.be/Ldl34YYd_q8
These are the results of the first race in the main competition:
TCup showing up with a big performance, with Gridghost not too far behind. The next race will be SS5 at Rally Land Temperate which, in theory, should suit the Scarab a bit better than the Seishin so we’ll see how things play out there.
Here are the outtakes of the upcoming race https://youtube.com/shorts/JaCF37xRMoQ?si=NscAc_hYmFNGadr1
Today’s race premiere is about to start! https://youtu.be/xHc7ceBzfUk?feature=shared
The premiere is now over, but of course you can still use the link above to go and re-watch the video in case you missed it. Here are the results and overall standings:
As you can see, now the Seishin and the Scarab are only separated by 0.3s overall, so anything can happen at Atoll. Race 7 will only happen in case both cars tie overall with the exact same time, but either way this promises to be a pretty exciting race!
Add to that, the wildcard for next week’s race will be the Minos Meteor so that should make for a fun race!
Here are the Outtakes for the season finale https://youtube.com/shorts/62BdoIwm9OY?feature=share
A bit late but the season finale went live today! https://youtu.be/dcSvGXmEgPE
Here are the results overall:
This was quite a tense battle for the overall win since the top 2 were very close. But Gridghost came out victorious, so congratulations to Gridghost! Next season will be announced in 2 weeks from today
With season 5 now over, I’d like to ask all those of you who watched: how did you like the format this time vs. previous seasons? The qualification round, then following eliminations and then only the best cars + 1 wildcard and my reference car being shown in the final? Did you enjoy it because it made the videos shorter and featured only the best cars that actually have a shot at winning, or would you prefer seeing more cars and thereby longer videos?
Alright everyone, due to some recent updates to both Automation and BeamNG which affected my test cars for the next season in several ways, preparations for season 6 took longer than usual but they’re done now. The rules are finalized and the announcement video will go public this Saturday at 6pm CEST
It’s going to be in the open beta then?
yes it will be in the open beta
