Trying to get more torque on that 4L V8

I uploaded the file for that engine. Basically a 4.0L V8 to put in a high-end sedan (something like a 550i). This one is naturally aspirated but I’m planning to make a turbo version for something like an M5. I have a lot of hp but I feel like the torque is lacking… How could I get more of that? Also, do you guys see anything else I could improve? Like emissions or economy.

Thank you

Edit: I finally managed to take a screenshot, apparently you can’t take one in fullscreen…

How do you open these?
Cant figure it out atm ,lol

Haha! All you have to do is open the automation folder in “documents” and put it in the “engine” folder. If done correctly, it should be in your sandbox menu as if you had created it. On my part, I’m still trying to make a screenshot of the game! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you, i was looking at it in a diffrent location (c drive), lol

I tweaked it a little bit and added VVL by going to 4 valves instead of 5 while playing with the cam profiles which allowed me to up to compression ration. The result? More hp and less torque… I now have a 4.0L V8 that produces 450 hp without a turbo but only 305 lb-ft of torque in the high-rpm’s (6500 rpm).

Here is my edit to your engine, The displacement increased but the physical size has not.

4.0L XP 40V DOHCRev1.lua (47.2 KB)

It got more powerful and efficient (by getting efficiency to 20%, I even took yours to roughly 516 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque!) but it’s still underpowered in terms of torque… I compared it to the BMW 550i engine (which is a 4.4L V8) and that engine manages to produce 439 hp (which is similar to what I got) but 479 lb-ft of torque compared to my measly 305 lb-ft… Why is my hp/torque ratio so high? :frowning:

That engine is a turbo engine i think.

Yep, that’s what I’ve just realised… hahaha It’s always easier to get torque when you’re “cheating”!

Edit: I made a completely new 4.0L V8.

Non Turbo: 448 hp @ 8200 rpm + 308 lb-ft @ 6900 rpm + 25,30% economy
Turbo: 467 hp @ 7100 rpm + 500 lb-ft @ 2600 rpm + 20,80% economy

Both have a similar responsiveness and MTBF. Overall, I’m very satisfied!

Also remember that the torque figure itself isn’t important. What’s actually important is how much power it makes across the rev range (which torque will tell you about to some extent)
