When you guys do revamp of Turbos/Forced Induction, will you be able to put any size turbo on any engine REGARDLESS of bore size? I find it somewhat frustrating that I can’t put an adequately sized turbo on any smaller displacement(3.0L-4.0L) inline-6 as well as (6.0L-7.0L) V12s.
Define “adequately sized”. Never had this problem before.
Never heard that before. I know that there is a limit for maximum and minimum Turbine and Compressor size, but unless you are going for max power or are trying to replicate a Kei car you’re never going anywhere near those.
About the only thing I’d want is an ability to pick bigger/smaller intercoolers than the predetermined list based on bore/stroke. Sometimes you are trying to put an absurd amount of power into a car with a tiny little engine, but you’re limited because even the Air/Water Small or Air/Water Medium isn’t big enough. I don’t care that it’s a 1 liter wonder, let me go Air/Water Large or Air/Water Huge if I need something that’s not an airflow restriction.
Well, that, and I wouldn’t mind being able to put slightly bigger turbos on the little engines. That being said, I’d be expecting that putting too big a turbo on too small of an engine would lead to highly undesirable results.
My biggest issue with Turbo V12 is trying to fit both an adequate amount of engine and adequate amount of turbo in a car. Then again, I suppose my applications of Turbo V12 probably settle on the side of insane.
The minimum size is based on the size of a SINGLE cylinder,
therefore you get the same size turbo on a I4 as a I6.
On a V8 you get esentially 2x I4 turbos. V12 = 2x I6, thus the turbos on I6 and V12 is undersized.
But that also means that the I3’s will get the same turbo as a I4…
I’m aware of that. But no one is ever going to use turbos of that size on a sensible car anyway, so that particular limitation is for the most part irrelevant.
“Any size” may not become a thing with the revamp. For larger turbos there will be a new header type which pushed the turbo further away from the engine block, allowing for bigger turbos.
Out of curiosity, what restricts the minimum size of the turbo?
I think that restriction is arbitrary right now.
