Do you have a car that was more of an excersize in design to later discover that it could be a car that would sell well?
I was designing a speedy minivan in 2005 to make it “the ultimate people carrier” i was expecting my 4.7 v8 plastic bodied minivan to dont do great, but ended up scoring between 105 and 90 in 6 areas.
not really for me, i always design something i feel is perfect for the market i make it for but it turns out that nobody wants it (strange thing is usually increasing the price also increased desirability) so perhaps anyone can post something like this aswell lol
I have both criticism and praise for your van’s performance. It seems like a decent van though.
Criticism: 235bhp isn’t actually that much, especially for a V8. The Kia Carnival had a 263bhp 3.8L V6 in 2006, albeit in a much larger body, so your average sports car á la BMW M3 would probably outrun your van reasonably comfortably.
Praise: Your van weighs less than 1500kg, and still seems almost as spacious as some vans of that era, so 235bhp probably could get it to the pace of a hot hatch or cheap import, if not a proper sports car. What are the performance specs for the van, and how did you get it so light?
I was experimenting with a 1980s Taxicab special once, complete with a non-turbo charged “Diesel” engine (Something like 110hp from a 3.5L I6). Ended up scoring ~110-120% in the Muscle and Pony categories.
My opinion here is that the current competitor cars for “hypercar” aren’t… hypercar enough, at least on the performance end of the scale. The bonus that one gets to prestige from luxury parts can outweigh that which one gets from performance. That being said given prestige would be fairly foremost on the minds of those who are thinking about buying a hypercar, the proper interpretation for this is that your luxury cars are sufficiently prestigeous to catch the eye of somebody who is considering buying a hypercar.
This being said the cars I generally make tend to have low comfort and lower end entertainment, but also score superior in hypercar because their relative lack of prestige is compensated for by high sportiness. So in the end, the market competitors aren’t inappropriate.
This project starts as an MPV minivan, and I plan to have 2 trim: a P for Personal\Family use with cheaper price and a C for company\commercial use which is more luxury.
