Used Car Shopping - All Scoring Areas Out!

On one hand I feel like I should be annoyed with Nathan for thinking the Swallow is an SUV but on the other he’s not a car guy so it’s fine I guess…

Fact: Racing stripes add 10 extra horsepower per strip

Not only that, but racing stripes also reduces the 0-60 time in 1 second and improves handling.

Same with performance stickers. They improve the gear ratio

Each performance enhancing badge (Turbo badges, stickers of performance variants and models) also increases torque by 15 pound feet

Painting the car yellow increases top speed by 10mph. Painting the rims black and the brakes red adds another 10mph each.

Im tied for 7th right now with the car I sure as shit WOULD purchase!!!

The Armor Valencia GT reminds me of a 1989 Bonneville SSEi, one of my early teen dream cars. That car sparked my love for buttons inside cars, the more the better…or so I thought at the time :grimacing:

Having a red interior shaves 100 pounds off the car’s weight.

Let’s hope that Nathan is listening to our factual and important advice.

@DuceTheTruth100 Personally, the Armour Valencia reminds me of the 400E.

Thanks! I absolutely had late '80’s to early '90’s GM in mind with the car. It’s part Bonneville, part Olds Toronado Trofeo.

Sick!! …I never had a Bonneville, but I’ve been lucky enough to own not one but TWO Olds Toronado Trofeos…both 1992 and same greenish blue color. The second one had the VIC IP…(the screen).

Dear car gods… If you let me get a 3rd 1992 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo (a pearl one), I swear I will NOT sell it!!!

Valencia looks like a mixture of various GM products

@Restomod Clearly, Nathan thinks that a car will magically move if you press the pedal, shift into gear, and there is gas in the car, and that vents have no actual use except aesthetic pleasure.

He was supposed to just be mocking the design asthetically, but uhh… I wouldn’t put that past him… |:

I don’t even know who did that the best or worst in those pics…

I’m not a ford fan but the Mustang is fire.

Oh now I understand the scoring system… I thought I was binned with the first results or smth.

I’d like to just clear that while hydropneumatic suspension was mainly used in premium class models, a few “sports cars” (they are rather just be called coupes) have hydropneumatic suspension factory installed. It is in the Tuono by default and not as a modification for a little bit of comfort considering the car has some uncomfortable features like the bucket seats. Also the car is mostly factory nothing major is aftermarket other than a few cosmetics, like the air freshener and such.

SCORING AREA #2: PRICE

If a cheaper car can fill Nathan’s needs as well as a more expensive car, he’ll go for the cheaper car; Leaves him with more money to do other things.

This category is based on the cost of the car after depreciation has been taken into account. Here are the top and bottom benchmarks:

Cheapest car:

1994 Denison King Snake DM-HP - $1493.7

With a car and engine model dating back to 1982 and lower-spec aspirations than most of its competitors, the King Snake makes use of archaic technologies few others dared go near, such as a pushrod valvetrain and an analog automatic transmission; Its very small size also keeps drive cost down.

New (A.K.A. before depreciation), this car cost $19500

Most Expensive car:

1995 Kumos Garto - $2000

This car reached the most expensive possible price for its year, which just so happens to work out to an even number. Elements that probably drive up the price include its aluminum panels, AWD, and 5-speed automatic transmission.

New, this car cost $25000

EXCEPT the Garto is not the only car to achieve the most expensive possible price for its year. All of the following cars have as well - and (by pure luck) the scoring balanced out perfectly so that that they all got I point, just like the leader.

2000 Etherea Sunburst - $1999.20
2007 Wells H1 Track Edition - $1996.40
1992 KPS K30 3.2 - $1996.40
1997 Autodelta Auriga by Gelera - $1993.68
1997 AZLK 2152 - $1993.68

(Other fun facts)
  • The way that all of the maxxed out cars got 1 point each was not planned. With the low and high benchmark set where they are, “$1993.68” is the lowest possible price an entrant could have gotten and still round down to a 1 ("$1993.67" would’ve rounded up to 1.1). 2 entrants have this price (The Autodelta Auriga and AZLK 2152), both of which were maxxed out for their year. On top of that, the next most expensive car after those 2 is the 1995 Vulcrum LB-5, which has about $100 left to spare for its year. Its price is $1992.

  • The most expensive car before depreciation was the 1990 Aim Swallow H8T at $29200; after depreciation, it costs $1947.64

  • The least expensive car before depreciation was the 2007 Wells H1 Track Edition at $16100; after depreciation, it costs $1996.4

  • The mean cost of a car (rounded) is $1914.57. A car with that price would have scored a 1.7; the 1992 Armor Valencia GT placed 8th in this round with such a score (though its price was actually $1910.84).

Next up: Fuel Economy. How much does each car cost just to use?

BTW Edsel, do you mind if I borrow this format for a future challenge? I have one that I have had in mind for a while, but your format have solved my problems with briefing and scoring system that have been a headache for a while.

Yeah, go ahead! Glad I could help.

Note that I did run into a few kinks with this system, which I was going to discuss after results were finished being released (probably before the end of this week). It won’t be much , but it might help you refine the format further.
