Will there be any aspect of a used car market in the final tycoon game. Sorry if this is repeat. I searched “used car”, as you might imagine, it gave me 70 pages, the first few being unrelated.
For example, will all car buyers in the game be only buying new cars from your/ai companies or will we have to also compete with used car sales. If something like this will be part of the game it could be kind of cool to see how your cars sell after 5 or 10 years, and how much they depreciate compared to other brands. It would be a small part of the game of coarse but something like this could be used for company reputation points, I don’t want to play a game where I’m running a used car lot. (wouldn’t be surprised if they already made Used Car Lot Tycoon)
I didn’t want to put this in the suggestion section, if it wasn’t mentioned before/in the plans already than I don’t see it as necessary by any means.
From what I can imagine, I would say that the player will only be dealing with sales of new cars but i would thing rep would be effected based on some statistics of how many vehicles are still “on the roads” years later in the game. I would guess there will probably be some way in which reliability and durability of makes and models that are sold 5, 10 or 15 years earlier in the game will effect rep.
As a gamedesigner, I think looking at this will cost too much time implementing and adding calculations for the used car business. It wouldn’t contribute a lot to the gameplay experience or mechanics itself really. Therefor I wouldn’t suggest adding this in as there are many more important things to do. Eventhough, it would be a nice idea to work out sometime when modding the game becomes available.
It would change a lot in the cheap car segment (and/or not so rich regions of the world). After all, a minicar has to compete with used car, which is more powerful, more practical, and better equipped for the same price. Of course, the modeling of the used car market should not be very complex, or drawbacks would completely outweigh the benefits, but it should be included if possible.
That’s what I was saying. Very basic at most. Literally like you said, it would just be a stat more or less. Depending on the economy people would be more or less likely to purchase a new car over a used one. Maybe you can offer rebates or extra features or cheaper financing in order to persuade buyers to purchase new vehicles.
