I am known for taking my sweet ass time judging challenges when I host them, and half of them aren’t really my fault. Real life tends to ram you right in there when you pick something up out of passion or hobby. I have even dropped ONE whole challenge, ATFC if people remember it. One of my most well received challenges and I just dropped off the face of the earth after deadlines closed. Why?
It was mid-covid, I was helping my father with distributing PPE and masks to rural and poorer parts of the country, and even midst that I was working on the reviews. And then my PC shat itself for good. There was no way on god’s green earth I was gonna get it done so I just ghosted the community out of guilt.
I’ve returned for a while and in the midst of hosting challenges myself and also complaining about people not posting judgement/reviews WAAAAY past the deadline, no one has ever brought up my unfinished challenge almost ever, other than a few joke mentions.
There’s a way to ask for an update on a silly forum challenge to hosts who are potentially students and are going through a much more crucial process in their life. The moment you start sounding demanding, you paint yourself as entitled.
But understand that we are 4 hosts, each having full time jobs/uni & in different time zones - coming together to judge has been challenging.
Not even to start on the technicalities of this challenge itself.
That being said, we do plan to complete this for you guys.
I will apologize for how I presented the question, I forget intent is hard over text, and my use of swears as filler is certainly a negative trait. I just find the lack of movement over the period when a pair of the hosts of this challenge have undertaken multiple other challenges without word on this challenge gave me a poor taste in the mouth.
I will not, however, apologize for my reaction to an unneeded slight toward me that was entirely inappropriate to the circumstances.
Anyone who’s hosted an Automation challenge knows how much work it can be, and also how easy it is to bite off more than one can chew. Understand that people are doing this for fun - nobody’s getting paid to run a community challenge, so be patient.
If you’re hosting and you’re having issues, do try to be as communicative as possible with your entrants - what that means is entirely up to you. And if you’re really stuck with things, don’t be afraid to ask for help or bring others in to help you; hell, that’s part of my job here if need be. As always my offer is that I’m happy to help assist with a challenge when my workload permits; just don’t expect to dump a half-finished spreadsheet, sixty .car files and a vague idea of your judging criteria and then expect me to write up your final results for you
