Highway Hooligans
While time and circumstances have changed the overall team composition slightly, and scattered the team a bit, the Hooligans decided to come back together after realizing Shitbox Rally 2025 had been caught up in too much red tape to proceed this year.
The Characters
Trevor Wright (52, 6’0", Male, Human) - A junkyard owner from Chicago, Illinois, Trevor likes to participate in all sorts of weird chaos involving cars, beer, and driving across weird places. While he’s sure this year won’t be quite as dramatic or exciting as the average Shitbox Rally (after all - there’s a greatly-reduced but still non-zero chance of getting eaten by giant, hungry werewolves), he’s certain it’ll still be great fun.
Cody Acorne (41, 5’9", Male, Human) - Also from Chicago, Cody is living his best life right now, or at least trying to. His brother is in prison somewhere out in Oregon, his best friend moved to Nevada to get away from the cold and the snow, and he’s starting to realize how very, very lonely it can be when you live somewhere that doesn’t really have good dating options. When Trevor contacted him about the run, he agreed, mostly because he wanted a change of scenery.
Jake Storm (36 (37 on 12/15), 5’7", Male, Wolf-Shifter) - Jake is Cody’s best friend - the one who moved out to Pahrump, Nevada. He wasn’t always a wolf-shifter, he used to be human, but certain life circumstances involving his boyfriend meant that he had to make a choice. Ultimately, he chose to embrace his wild side as a wolf - though for the most part, he stays in his human form so he doesn’t scare people. (Trevor would joke, of course, that Jake’s the reason there’s a non-zero chance of someone getting eaten by a giant, hungry werewolf - even though Jake wouldn’t do so, and both Jake and his partner Rowan argue heavily that there’s a difference between wolf-shifters and werewolves.) He agreed to join back up because things have been slow, remote work is good but isolating, and he wants to drive some junk.
Rowan Shadowthorne (74, 6’9", Male, Panthirian Jagrilan) - Rowan is Jake’s boyfriend/partner. Unlike Jake, Rowan was born as a feline and does not have a human form. He’s tall, polite, and slightly militaristic, but still makes jokes, carries a nerf gun, and is always down to have a drink or two - provided it’s not carbonated. He’s also extremely comfortable with Jake’s lupine side, much to the annoyance of the two humans in their group. He’s comfortable with driving just about anything, though the vehicle they’ve gotten is, well… certainly something new for him.

(Probably best not to anger Jake. You don’t want a 12’6” wolf mad at you.)
Lyrran Rhoulan (40, 7’6", Male, Leoshai) - Lyrran is a four armed, horned, three-tailed lion-like being from the planet Narquintal. He agreed to provide the car for the challenge… as long as he was allowed to come with. The Hooligans immediately made him an Honorary Hooligan, and so he’s providing a “2033” Daxton Trailmaster for the run. For him, the excitement is in racing across countries on another planet, and proving the durability of one of the Sorensiedian Empire’s domestic car brands.
The Car
This is a 2032 Daxton Trailmaster.
But considering the current year on Narquintal is 2052… That makes it equivalent to a 2005 on Earth. Specifically, this is the Centaur package with the 1.7L Altitude engine option - a fancy way to say “You get AWD and an angry 1.7 liter I4 pumped full of boost to make a shade over 300 horsepower using a turbo and a supercharger together to do it.” Everything in the driveline is purely mechanical - coil-and-points ignition system, mechanical fuel injection, wastegates, engine vacuum driven variable valve timing, engine oil pressure driven variable valve lift, a 6 speed manual gearbox, viscous differentials… It seems weird to us, but where it’s from, it’s impervious to magical disruption - the engine keeps running without any issues, even if a mage is throwing a magical tantrum in the passenger seat.
However, the thing you probably noticed first was the set of Duratrax Explorras replacing the tires. Lyrran used this small SUV for snow driving, and the rubber-belted tracks allow it to travel on snow, asphalt, concrete, dirt, sand, slush, and gravel all about equally well. Of course… they’re also a maintenance pit.
Likewise, a quick inspection suggests there’s plenty of rust. And it’s showing every bit of the 300,000 miles it has traveled, even if there is a decent service history. Sure, it won’t be the fastest vehicle here… But it will be the one that refuses to get stuck as long as the team has “at least one more” track replacement belt in the back.
The trailer is a classic Hooligan Special - a truck bed and in-bed camper for Trevor, plus three tents for the other crew members - all of them specially soundproofed by a magically-inclined friend in Nevada so that no horizontal activities disturb others in camp.
