Weekend Warrior - [DONE]

The best way to describe it is “one-trick pony” - good for record-breaking lap times and nothing else.

BTW, what body set is this time attack monster built on? Is it the '85 Juliet, or the '78 W124-esque body? Especially since it looks like it was based on either of them.

REVIEWS PART 2

This part focuses on cars that have decent stats but are let down in one or two aspects.

HD Erina (109.1 points) @BTCheetah

  • Lap time: 1:55.93
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.90s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.40s
  • Power: 300hp
  • Weight: 731kg
  • Tyres: Semi slicks

The first of the three kei sized cars, this machine proves that you don’t need a thousand hp to go fast. With just 300hp and 731kg, the HD Erina manages to get the 4th fastest lap time. It also does very well in sportiness and it has the best fuel economy, all while keeping service costs acceptable even with the use of semi slick tyres. Unfortunately it comes with several disadvantages: safety and comfort are some of the lowest, not surprising for a car this small, and drivability and reliability are below average.

Design wise, there’s two things that bother me. First one is the headlights, too small and too low on a car that’s already very low. Second one is the wing, I like the idea but not the execution, is it mounted on the rear window? I’m pretty sure that would not work, but even if it did it would be a bad idea.

Pegasus 260CR (112.7 points) @xsneakyxsimx

  • Lap time: 2:06.25
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.70s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.90s
  • Power: 432hp
  • Weight: 1352kg
  • Tyres: Sports

The Pegasus 260CR is a true restomod, 1967 model with a 1989 engine that have both been updated with 2020 technology. This already puts it at a disadvantage when compared to the modern supercars it has to compete with. Most of its stats are below average, with performance and drivability being the worst ones, but it also has some very strong stats. Reliability is high, service costs are some of the lowest at $1620, and it has the lowest price at $31k.

I don’t have much to say about the design, it’s good, but a bit generic and it doesn’t look as good as other competitors. My biggest complaint about this car is that I feel it had more potential, with so much budget to spare it could have been a lot faster, and the lack of downforce doesn’t help either.

Milano Drago VR55 (121.1 points) @the-chowi

  • Lap time: 1:55.24
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.70s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.40s
  • Power: 568hp
  • Weight: 1280kg
  • Tyres: Semi slicks

When I first started looking at the Milano Drago I thought “this one will make it to the finals”. Performance is one of the bests, same for sportiness and drivability. On the styling, the tailights are a bit off from some angles, but overall this is one of the bests designs of the challenge, with the sculpted sides being specially impresive. Comfort and reliability are lower but still above average.

And then you look at the service costs. With the semi slicks tyres it goes up to $5496 and if you add the low safety, that’s two 3 star priorities the Drago fails at. With better safety and a more acceptable SVC, this would have been not only a finalist, but a strong contender for the win.

Phénix Quantum GTR (123.1 points) @karhgath

  • Lap time: 1:56.77
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.90s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.20s
  • Power: 518hp
  • Weight: 1076kg
  • Tyres: Sports

The Quantum GTR is a decent car in almost every stat, it’s not great but not awful either. The exceptions to this are safety, where it’s only above the three small cars and the Böhe; and reliability, where it’s the best car by quite some margin, and if you don’t crash it because of it’s low drivability, it will probably outlive you.

I’m still not sure if I like the design or not. On one hand I like the rear, although the diffuser is a bit too big. On the other hand the front is too crowded, the two small vents on the hood feel out of place and the main grill doesn’t work with the rest of the car. Also the wiper mounted at the top of the windshield is a weird choice, I don’t know how well that would work.

Rhania Resau-R (123.5 points) @happyfireballman

  • Lap time: 2:08.11
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.70s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.70s
  • Power: 461hp
  • Weight: 1374kg
  • Tyres: Sports

This one is a surprise, I expected the Rhania to be near the bottom when I saw its lap time. How did a car this slow get this far? By being good at everything else. Other than performance and sportiness, the Rhania Resau does well in almost every other stat, with SVC just under $2000 and the highest comfort being the better ones.

Design is simple (maybe too much even for a 1999 car) but it looks nice. Except for the rear, the rear is awful and it looks like someone slapped random fixtures and hoped it worked. Overall the Rhania is an interesting package, but for $68000 I expected something faster and better looking.

Swanson 725S (124.2 points) @Ludvig

  • Lap time: 2:03.74
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.10s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.80s
  • Power: 310hp
  • Weight: 956kg
  • Tyres: Sports

“The aluminium bathtub”, that’s how the Swanson 725S was described by its creator on the submission and it’s a fitting one. This super compact sports car looks clean, modern and has a lot of personality. I’m divided about the white triangle continuing into the splitter, I don’t really like it and I think it would look better without it, but it also gives it a more recognizable look.

As for its stats, the 725S has the best drivability of all competitors and high reliability, as well as a low price at $44500. It also has the kind of stats you would expect from a tiny car, good fuel economy and very low safety (almost tied for the lowest), although comfort is not that bad. Performance is on the lower side too, perhaps a lighter carbon fiber body and chassis would have been better than the all aluminium route it went for.

Hmm… two eliminations down and I’m still not on the list yet.
Interesting…
Especially against some good cars.

Eh, that was to be expected for mine. I was just doing my sort of interpretation of a 240Z with a GTR engine swap, and I didn’t feel like trying to push it budget wise. Plus, it’s now in the PAIN comp so I guess I’ll see how it drives in Beam. :stuck_out_tongue:

wow

im not dead

Surprised I am still in tbh

If the Gatling does make it to the finals, consider me shocked.
Like I’ve finally figured out how to build a decent car.
Even if I’m one of the slowest entries. Still a 2:05 around ATT is still respectable.

The things is, the WW car was actually my original Barbie car that was revised to meet and be on par with these rules.

I could make a challenges about fixing the rear end of that car called FMA(Fix My @$$)

REVIEWS PART 3

This part focuses on the cars that almost made it to the finals and just needed a bit more of something.

VAM 430r Draha (125.3 points) @doot

  • Lap time: 2:02.44
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.60s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.90s
  • Power: 405hp
  • Weight: 1329kg
  • Tyres: Sports

The 430r Draha is a car that has good SVC, drivability, comfort and reliability while sacrificing performance and sportiness, although it’s still decently fast. Safety isn’t great either, and I expected better fuel economy from a car like this.

On the design, there’s somethings I like and others I hate. I like the wing, the exhausts, the side vent and the shape of the car is nice too, but all I’m not a fan of any of the lights. The biggest offenders are the front indicators and fog lights that look like an afterthought. Also, the hood is too empty and a vent or a scoop would have been nice.

Mara-AMM Paragon 4.6 STL (126.8 points) @AndiD

  • Lap time: 1:55.63
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.90s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.50s
  • Power: 550hp
  • Weight: 1210kg
  • Tyres: Sports

If you look at the stats, the Paragon is a very strong car. It has great performance, sportiness, drivability and reliability with the addition of good service costs. Its only weak point is having low safety.

If you look at the exterior, that’s another story. The front is not that bad, with bigger and higher headlights it would be fine. The rear however is too empty and the few fixtures there don’t work well together. Sorry to say this, but it looks like it was made by a beginner, and the fact that you forgot to remove an old exhaust cutout only makes it worse. The sides are too simple, and the wheel arches are huge compared to the wheels.

And it’s honestly a shame because, as I already mentioned, the stats are great. Give it better safety and it would be a finalist, add a better design and it could have been the winner.

Norðwagen Skaði GTR6 (128.0 points) @moroza

  • Lap time: 1:57.83
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.60s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.20s
  • Power: 736hp
  • Weight: 1285kg
  • Tyres: Sports

Thanks to a matte black paintjob with dark red accents paired with an agressive front, the Skaði is a menacing looking vehicle. This retro super hatch has a very unique look, although I’m not a fan of the triple grill and the rear wing. Still, I can apreciate the amount of detail and how original it is when compared to other cars in the challenge.

The Norðwagen has the third highest score in performance and it’s strong in almost every aspect, but the low drivability and terrible comfort prevent it from being a top contender.

Condor Whiptail GTC (129.6 points) @Fantic2000

  • Lap time: 1:58.63
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.50s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.40s
  • Power: 603hp
  • Weight: 1356kg
  • Tyres: Sports

Jack of all trades, master of none. That’s the perfect description for the Condor Whiptail. It doesn’t have any real weakness, (except for maybe fuel economy, but that’s not an big issue), but it doesn’t excel in anything either. Higher comfort or safety would have been nice, as would any other stat really.

The design is muscular but refined, it tells you that this is not just a straight line monster, it can go fast on the bends too. While there’s nothing wrong with it, there’s better looking cars and I can’t give it a perfect score.

Genarro Vatiara (132.6 points) @Koviico

  • Lap time: 2:02.76
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.40s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.70s
  • Power: 511hp
  • Weight: 1455kg
  • Tyres: Sports

Although it has good stats overall, this car needed just a bit more. Maybe it could have been better in performance and sportiness, it has race headers after all. Or maybe it would have been better to drop them and sacrifice a bit of performance for better reliability and service costs.

Design is excellent, one of my favorites in fact. If I have to nitpick something, I’d say that the hood scoop could have been integrated better into the design.

I thought for a long time if I should take this car to the next round, but in the end it was no match for the finalists. Still, a very strong effort for a first challenge.

Dobson Corkscrew (133.2 points) @SheikhMansour

  • Lap time: 1:55.98
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.50s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.20s
  • Power: 381hp
  • Weight: 743kg
  • Tyres: Sports

The Dobson Corkscrew takes the same concept of the Swanson 725S and the HD Erina, and pushes it to the extreme. It gets the fifth fastest laptime and the second best score in performance. It has good drivability, great sportiness and exceptional reliability, while keeping service costs, fuel economy and price relatively low. But as I mentioned already, this is a car of extremes, and as such it has low comfort and the worst safety of all cars.

For a car this extreme, the design is not that spectacular. It looks a bit boring for what it is, and the diffuser is too wide.

Like the Vatiara, I almost took the Dobson to the finals but decided against it in the end. It is a great car, but nuking a three star priority was never going to go well.

After going through all these cars, we are left with only the best 6. Next round will be the final.

The finalists are:

@Vena.Sera423
@vero94773
@BelleBop & @SayokiN
@Riley
@azkaalfafa
@abg7

WEEKEND WARRIOR FINALS

These are the ultimate track machines, cars with either no weaknesses or strenghts so great that they make up for them.

6. Delphinida Goblin (138.2 points) @azkaalfafa

  • Lap time: 1:59.06
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.70s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.50s
  • Power: 510hp
  • Weight: 1248kg
  • Tyres: Sports

With the fastest lap time out of the finalists (but not the best performance score), the green Goblin is a very strong car without any big weaknesses. However, low comfort and average reliability and sportiness hurts it chances to win.

Even though I think a flashier colour would be better, the Delphinida is a good looking car. The main grille looks great, and the double set of lights work well both in the front and the rear.

A good car overall, and with how close the next three cars are, it ends up just 1.2 points away from a podium.

5. FWM Gatling CS-8 (139.0 points) @Vena.Sera423

  • Lap time: 2:05.68
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.70s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.90s
  • Power: 462hp
  • Weight: 1396kg
  • Tyres: Sports

From the fastest car in the finals we go to the slowest. In fact the it’s the fourth slowest car around the Automation Test Track. While it suffers in performance and sportiness, the FWM Gatling does really well in every other stat while being cheaper than most competitors at $52800. Reliability is great, but where the FWM truly shines is the service costs at only $1383, the lowest of all cars.

Styling is less exotic than the other finalists, but still very good and with lots of detail while fitting the lower price and performance of the vehicle, although the racing tyres don’t really fit it.

The Gatling proves that performance isn’t everything, even if a bit more speed would have been nice.

4. Mastriota Batleth V (139.1 points) @vero94773

  • Lap time: 2:01.12
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.20s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.50s
  • Power: 592hp
  • Weight: 1486kg
  • Tyres: Sports

Just ahead of the FWM and barely missing on the top 3 we find the Mastriota Batleth. Another car with no real weaknesses, although fuel economy and comfort could be better. Even if it’s not that fast, sportiness is great and service costs are the second lowest at $1550.

With it’s slick and classy look, the Batleth V is a gorgeous machine. Everything looks right and I wouldn’t change anything about it, so it gets a perfect score in design.

A great looking car with great stats that needed just a bit more of something.

3. Zephorus Z - X (139.4 points) @Riley

  • Lap time: 1:59.42
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.00s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.60s
  • Power: 470hp
  • Weight: 1201kg
  • Tyres: Sports

At third place we have the Zephorus Z - X. This car has a few clear issues: below average drivability, the highest SVC out of the finalists and terrible comfort. However it gets high scores in all the other stats. Performance, safety and reliability are all very good, and it destroys every other competitor in sportiness.

Attention to detail is amazing on the Z - X. Things like the rear and front cameras, a pitot tube at the front, or the warning on the skirts, glass roof and exhausts elevate it to a different level. The design itself is extremely agressive with crazy lines. This is the kind of car that makes you get out of the way if you see it in your rear mirror because you know it’s going to be fast. The Zephorus Z - X is wild and I love it.

However, having bad comfort really hurts this car so this is as far as it gets.

2. WM Warlord V8 (141.2 points) @abg7

  • Lap time: 1:59.60
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.90s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.30s
  • Power: 552hp
  • Weight: 1266kg
  • Tyres: Sports

At a first glance, the WM Warlord might seem like an average car. And it is, but that’s actually an advantage. It gets over half the maximum score in all 3 and 2 star priorities while not being impressive in any of them, with the exception of safety. It also has the best performance out of the finalists, but none of them are at the top anyways. This car uses the full budget, and it puts it to good use, making sure that it has no weaknesses.

On styling there’s not much to say about the Warlord. It looks good but it’s nothing special, and the rear looks like it has a bit too much going on. The colour is great though.

A car without weaknesses that makes no compromises and does it all well while not beign the best at anything. So why isn’t it the winner? Because the Kyukei-Sport Raiden exists.

1. Kyukei-Sport Raiden (146.4 points) @BelleBop & @SayokiN

  • Lap time: 1:59.97
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.10s
  • 80-120 km/h: 1.40s
  • Power: 516hp
  • Weight: 1252kg
  • Tyres: Sports

With the exception of performance, sportiness and safety, everything the Warlord does the Raiden does it better and for a lower price. At $54900, it has better overall stats than cars $15k more expensive. The only stats where it gets less than half score are performance and price, while having great drivability and fuel economy. Oh, did I mention this is a convertible too?

My only issue with the design is that the lack of a bigger grille on the front bumper almost makes it look like an electric car. If we ignore that, it’s a beautiful machine. It has simple lines but it makes them work well and the tail lights are great.

However, there’s something that I have to mention.

Open

I found something weird while checking the engineering. Some cars in this challenge are electronically limited to 300 or 310 km/h, that’s fine and I have no issue with it, but the Raiden is limited at 270. This made me raise a brow and I immediately checked and confirmed my suspicion. That’s close to the top speed for most cars at the ATT. That smells too much like cheese for me and I deducted some points but the Raiden is so much better than everything else that it still won even after a penalty. I’m not going to say the actual score it got, but it was over 150 points, it would have won easily even without the top speed cheese.

A car that does well in every stats and has no weaknesses (even it if has some questionable engineering choices) means the Kyukei-Sport Raiden is the perfect Weekend Warrior.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Weekend Warrior started as an idea I had saved for QFC, but I decided to run it as a standalone challenge and I'm glad so many people liked it. This was my first time running a challenge and it was really fun, but also harder than I thought. I expected to get around 10 entries and I got 26.

I have plans to run something bigger in the future, but first there are somethings I have to figure out so don’t expect anything soon from me.

Feedback would be appreciated so I can be a better host for future challenges. If you have the time, please tell me what you enjoyed and what you didn’t like, as well as what I did well and what I need to improve.

Once more, thank you to every participant and to everyone who read the reviews. See you soon.

Great challenge and well laid out. I would love to see another one of these hosted either by the winner or yourself again.

i’m completely happy with my result, thought i would be lower on the list. thank you for hosting!

I’ll take 5th and yeah it could squeeze a little more performance out of it to drop a couple of seconds.
Also there is a correction that needs to be made
It’s FWM (Factory W Motorworks) Not FMW.
There is another brand named FMW that’s BMWesque.
But other than that, great competion and thanks for hosting.

I see two options for a sequel:

1- Track only hypercars (McLaren P1 GTR, Bugatti Bolide, etc)
2- Slower cars with a focus on handling (Toyota GR86, Mazda MX-5, etc.)

I’m not interested in running it on the short term, since there are a lot of challenges running right now, but if the winners (or someone else) want to run another round, I can stablish some basic rules to keep the spirit of the original.

My bad, it’s fixed now.
