I just seen this on FB, and after 106 comments, no one has a definite answer. So I thought Id bring this to the experts here…
So I work at a General Motors plant and we have this people carrier that someone put these regular car wheels on…
My question to all of you is, what car do these go to? They look like a Pontiac wheel but they are 4 lug and 15 inch… I have been trying to figure this out for years with no luck… I don’t know if they are maybe some prototype wheel that we had kicking around and put to use or what…
I’ve tried using a Google image search with no luck there… I’m really hoping someone can finally answer this question!!
Thank you
Pontiac grand am mid 90snope but they’re just a little different. the 4Lug throws me off too.
Can you see any parts number on them? That may reveal something with googling… But they are probably rare, never seen them before and as you say, a google search reveals nothing. Looks 90s…was there even any american GM left running four lugs by then?
Now I am as interested in an answer as you are.
General Motors.
Someone might be able to decode those pixels. The one thing I didn’t zoom in was the DOT USA.
If I had to guess… Geo? Saturn? cheap Chevy?
Top looks to be C05C8SB8. Bottom looks like (Backwards E?)5ADJA49. Not sure if that will help
If the first one is meant to be an 8 I don’t think the die that stamped it was leveled properly, at least to my shortsighted eyes.
^ I read it like this, left to right ^
Heres the flipped version, which might be what you read
That second number is unreadable to me
Heres it zoomed alllll the way in
Yeah, that makes so much more sense in hindsight.
Also, from what it looks like, it seems that this wheel is supposed to have a centre cap which may be what fools Google lens too…
Did they say which GM plant they worked at? That may provide a clue?
I wish I knew, I just copy and pasted. If I can find the post again I will ask.
Sunfire rims are almost a match but 5 lug and no center cap.
Why do you need to know? Or are you just curious
Ah. Well, at any rate, I’ve asked some other automotive friends of mine about this, and it’s possible this is a prototype rim for the Pontiac Sunfire. It seems that GM was thinking of going with a four bolt design for the Sunfire so they could share rims with Saturn. But just before the car’s launch they decided to keep the 5 bolt pattern from the outgoing Sunbird instead.
This could be possible, the Saturn SC2 coupe did have some Pontiac inspired rims in the 90’s. And GM is quite bad at preserving their concepts and stuff.

@PhirmEggplant I dont necessarily need to know, but Im curious fa sho lol. This post is on one of those fb automotive groups, I just so happened to be scrolling and tuned in to this. I found it interesting that, at the time after 106 post, there was no definitive answer.
@Maverick74 That could very well be possible, Im on the side of prototype until I see different.

I’ve already looked at that… there are small differences.
