What is your car history?

As a driver, I’m fairly competent. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be certified to drive larger vehicles (military grade). At least I use my turn signals wll in advance and don’t cut people off.

However, that being said… I don’t blame you.[/quote]

I’m not calling your driving in question, but you seem to have developed a knack for “wrong place wrong time”.

Indeed… and I’m paying for it, insurance-wise that is… Had to switch companies 3 times to avoid massive rate hikes even though I wasn’t at fault.

1998 Dodge Caravan
2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Im only 16, I cant have much of a history, heh.

here’s my car history

My list is pretty small compared to the rest here

2011 - 2013:

2003 Alfa Romeo 147 1.6TS

My very first car, which I also paid by myself. It was actually a quite well thought purchase - some will shake their heads now - a small 1.6L engine should be economic, the car was completely equipped and there was only a small damage in the bumper. Easy! Ordered a bumper from poland - changed it - done!
Well… the 1.6TS was not so economic to me, thats probably due to my heavy foot. Then the gearbox broke because the previous owner did something weird to it - well gearboxes were cheap in poland… so I swapped the gearbox with my dad and uncle in one day.
Besides of that small mishap the car was pretty reliable and never let me down or gave me up.
Later on I sold it to get a bigger and newer car

2013 - now:

2006 Alfa Romeo 159 1.9JTS

The virus got me - i am now an Alfista. Bigger car, bigger engine, better equipment - that sums up my new Alfa. Some Alfisti will shake their heads because the engine is a GM-based one… but that is just a small issue - its still an Alfa Romeo.
Fantastic exterior design, great colour, nice interior.
And after doing around 10Mm in it - it feels pretty good! The leather seats are comfortable, the stereo is good, the Satnav is crap - which is typical for Satnavs these old, the ride is good.

2013 - now:

2013 Opel Vivaro 2.0CDTI

Not my decision to get it - but okay. I drive that car for a living. What can i say about it… its a van. The 114hp engine is a bit too weak, the seats are too hard, the radio too silent, the AC and heater is good.
Well i have a pretty big sponsor on it so… i am okay with driving it. The small “office” in the back is pretty good

2011-2013:

Used to have Audi S6 4.2 V8 40V '00

Next car is going to be Audi S8 4.2 V8 40V 1999-2002 which i’m planning to tune abit (Complete engine revamp with Lysholm type screw charger, Custom ECU, gearbox swap auto → 6-speed manual, LSDs to front and rear diffs, new suspension and brakes)

1959 Buick LeSabre 4 dr Sedan (was almost a running car, used it as a project until I bought my 2 Dr hardtop thats my current project, many good parts came from this 4 dr. motor, floor mats, etc)
1997 Buick Riviera VIN1 (factory supercharged, bought with 191,000 miles on it, lasted until 238,000 when my racing style shelled the 2nd transmission. Sent to scrap yard 2 years ago. Motor still ran like new to!)

1959 Buick LeSabre 2 dr sedan (rust free parts car for sheet metal for my hardtop)
1956 Chevy 210 Sedan (265 V8, powerglide, rust bucket, but current daily driver. I call it Trusty Rusty) lol
1959 Buick LeSabre 2 dr Hardtop (project car. Driveline done, frame mods done, rust repair %25 done, most nuts, bolts, wiring is done.) ( Will have factory 6 way power seats, P/steering, under dash AC, dual antennas, dual factory mirrors, with the better then new 364 nailhead turning a switch pitch TH400)

I don’t think I missed any, but some of them aren’t in order. Im bound to get a few mixed up :haha:

You can go around pretending you are in Ronin.

Peugeot 309
I bought this at age 15 for the great sum of 500 DKK (~67EUR, ~52GBP, ~84USD). I think this was with 1.1 L engine so not much power but it didn’t really mater since the car was for trashing round on a empty field until the fan belt jumped off and then fix it and repeat. Also despite being made of the thinnest metal known to man it was remarkably rust free. I the end I used it for a school project when the engine had long seized up from standing around.

Nissan Sunny (Pulsar, N13) 1.4 LX 12 valve
This is what I consider my “real” (read roadcar) first car, my grandfather gave it to me when he stopped driving at age 80, I was 16 at the time so the car stood for 2 years patiently waited for me to turn 18 (minimum driving age in Denmark). When I turn 18 we pulled it out of the shed it been sleeping in and after a normal service, a rear brake cylinder ,some new fuel lines and a pair of front wings it was ready to drive it even went through the MOT with out any problems. Although the rust from standing around plus now driving it about 100 km each day meant the exhaust didn’t last long. So I installed a new rear muffler and that was about the last I did too it, just drove it for the next 2 years. It never missed a beat, it did however make increasingly weird bumps/rattles/other strange sounds.

Ford Capri 1.6 L
At age 19 I felt that I wanted a project car to work on and while through various cars I started to really want and old Ford, either a MK1/2 Escort or a Capri but I ended with wanting a Capri slightly more. One problem though, there where no cheap Capri in semi-decent shape for sale in Denmark at the time. So I expanded my search and found one down in Germany. It wasn’t really in great shape but as I wanted something to work on rather than a driver, I thought it was okay. On the way home the carb also showed that it had some issues, mainly that sometimes (most of the way home in fact) it would not keep a steady speed, it could slow down every slowly or accelerate, no middle ground at all. Another issue was that even in summer it didn’t always want to start when it was cold without some starter fluid. After driving around on the temp. plates I got when I bought the car in Germany, I parked it in the workshop, bolted off the rear axle and started to work on the bodywork, until that I was told that I needed to make space for some rebuilding. So we moved the car out of the workshop with a makeshift rear axle and I haven’t got back to it…

Peugeot 405 T16
About half a year after I bought the Capri, one day while looking at my normal places on the internet, I wondered what I 205 T16 goes for, turns out they are expensive (as expected), I first looked at the German sites because it unlikely there was one in Denmark, but just for fun I searched anyway, and there was a 405 T16 which at that point I was only aware of the Pikes peak and Dakar version which are basically stretched versions of the 205 T16. And since I had been watch all the group B documentaries I could get my hands on, I was intrigued by this unknown car with a T16 badge. Of course I started reading up on it and the stats read very similar to the great rally homologation cars of the time. 2.0 L I4 with a variable turbo developing 200 hp or with the overboost 220 hp, full time AWD with a viscous lock in the center and a Torsen diff at the rear and Citroën based self-adjusting hydraulic rear suspension. Obviously I ended up buying it, It’s a great car especially in the winter because it will oversteer when you want it, but when you don’t you just change into a higher gear and it becomes a comfortable and stable cruiser. The bad sides: being a rare car, parts can be a bit of a pain and well it’s not exactly economical.

BMW 320i (e30)
After dealing with Peugeot T16 parts, I only had two requirements for my next car 1: good parts availability and since I had a FWD and AWD daily drive clear it was time for something with rear wheel drive. Also my budget was small… very small. So the list quickly narrowed down to, Sierras, e30, e34 and 70s Opels, another possiblity would have been Volvo 240 but I tried one and it’s a bit of a boat, could just have been a bad example though. The Opels where too old for a daily drive on the cheap (rust), I was never a fan of e34s even though it’s most comfortable and the newest car in the list and funnily the price doesn’t reflect that. I the end I just wanted an e30 more than a Sierra, so I searched for a bit and fund one that looked to be mostly rust free for cheap-ish. In the years I had it, the fuel tank rusted threw, a cambelt snapped (I never got round to changing it) and I did end up making fair bit of various rust repairs.

Toyota MR2 (AW11)
This time round my requirements where extremely vague, either I wanted something both dirt cheap to run and buy or I wanted something interesting where I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more money. While talking with the other IRC regulars, our resident Toyota fanboy (adam_d) mentioned that he wasn’t going to suggest any Toyota since I had expressed my dislike with any newer Toyota except the Toybaru. So I looked up the few Toyota I do like and found a good example of my favourite gen MR2 that was close to where I work. This car definitely have mid-engined handling characteristics, it’s also eager and quite economical for 25 year old car. I have driven 20 Mm (that’s Megametres) in it and the only problem I had was when a marten had bitten in the HT-leads

TL:DR
Daily drives: Nissan Sunny -> Peugeot 405 T16 -> BMW 320i (e30) -> Toyota MR2 (AW11)
Others: Peugeot 309, Ford Capri

These are the cars I have bought myself:

1977 Citroën CX 2.4 Pallas
1989 Ford Sierra 2.0iS Coupe
1993 Renault Laguna 2.0RXE
1994 Opel Calibra 2.5 V6
1996 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro
2002 Renault Laguna 2.0 16v GT
2008 Opel GT Roadster
2013 Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Of those, I still own the Opel Calibra, Audi A4, Opel GT and Alfa Romeo.

2009 my first, my love, Seat Altea
2010 sold altea
2010 volvo c30
2011 sold volvo
2011 Chrysler crossfire
2012 Honda CR-Z
2013 sold the chrysler and honda
2014 Volvo v40
2015 considering getting a BMW i3

So i only have the volvo v40 atm

1989 Plymouth voyager (it was a free car from my parents)
1992 Pontiac grand am (3.3L v6 with the sport package, that was a fun car untill i got hit)
1990 Ford escort (it was $900 and was good till i got hit)
1991 Geo metro (5 door version, i hated that thing but it was better on gas than everything else & it did 90mph)
2003 Doge grand caravan sport (yes a “sport” minivan… free from my parents, loads of room and not too bad untill the engine blew for no good reason)
2005 Ford focus zx4 (current car and i like it because its a sedan not the hatchback or wagon versions that are ugly as FK)

Well… might as well add my Legacy to the list of wrecked rides… Got nailed last week when a semi jack knifed and I was pinned between the trailer and a concrete barrier.

Got a new 2015 one now, night and day to my old one… when did Subie finally learn how to design a better interior? As for the exterior… kinda looks like a Ford Taurus a bit.

Dude, what did you do to piss Karma off so badly? :open_mouth:

Man, just use public transit. Driving is officially a futile exercise for you.

Short List since im only 18

98 GMC Sierra long box 2wd with a 305 (inherited from my father Overheated, Scrapped with over 400,000km)

85 Chevy Silverado 4X4 leaf springs all around (190,000km still have for plowing)

94 Ford Ranger (I don’t talk about this one,Scrapped)

97 Chevy silverado (Bought it for the engine and parts)

My Current Daily Driver : 84 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D’elegance (141,000 Original Kms)
was stored in a concrete garage for 17 years so its pretty much mint

Bought in 2006: 1989 Ford Escort Laser 1.6L (rusted like heck, decided to sell)
Bought in 2010: 1987 Nissan Sunny 1.6L (rust and expensive engine problems, scrapped)
Bought in 2012: 1988 Nissan Sunny 1.4L (a snow plow reversed without noticing it, wrecked)
Bought in 2012: 1992 Ford Escort 1.8L (rusted like heck, decided to sell. Loved the engine in this. My first fuel injected car and my first car with over 100 horsepower, I was so happy! )
Bought in 2012: 1997 VolksWagen Vento 1.8L (all kinds of small problems all the time, impossible to open doors in winter, or if you somehow got a door open it wouldn’t close, decided to sell)
Bought in 2014: 2001 Opel Astra Sport 2.2L (fun but ugly, we’ll see how long this lasts. It’s slowly losing oil somewhere.)

Let’s get my list going then :

My first car was a 1998 Audi A4 SE, I don’t have any photos but it was a black saloon model wit hthe N/A 1.8 20v engine. Not the fastest car in the world but I was 17 and all my mates had Corsa’s/Fiestas etc. so my Audi felt like a rocket back then. It died when the timing belt skipped a tooth, and back then I didn’t have the knowledge to fix it :frowning:

Next up is my 2001 Honda Accord SE Executive. I bought this as it had a 2 litre VTEC engine and full leather interior, and at 19 I thought that was what I needed  This one suffered engine failure, an oil seal let go whilst I was driving at motorway speed and oil starvation resulted in piston rod number 2 punching a hole clean through the front of the bottom end. I kept the car and put an imported H22A VTEC engine into it, but it’s been off the road since (still in my ownership).

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/4df1057f.jpg

Whilst the Accord was off the road I needed a sensible daily driver. However I saw a 1991 Mk2 Golf for sale locally and bought that instead… 1.6 litre single cam, on a Pierburg 2e2 carb, and with almost 250,000 miles under it’s belt. It’s not been the most reliable car in the world, but you’ve got to love a mk2 Golf. I’ve since swapped a 2 litre AGG engine into it from a mk3 GTi, and I also have the wide track suspension to fit as well as I recently bought a 1.8 turbo engine to go into it. It gets chopped and changed quite a bit this one as it’s so easy to work on, but here it is as I bought it (still in my ownership).

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/0ca317e8.jpg

Next my girlfriend and I moved in together, and in the run up to this we decided she needed her own car (she had used her parents car previously). She left me to choose what we should get, so I bought an imported 1992 Honda Prelude Si VTEC :smiling_imp: She wasn’t impressed at first, but after driving it she thought it was great, and it’s been her favourite car to date. It was her daily for a bit, then when we bought it’s replacement we took it off the road (it’s still in our ownership).

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/FFA85AB8-B765-4661-AADD-C95B264966E5-3709-00000C9B3CA81B7A.jpg

Next I started doing a long commute, and we also got a Labrador puppy. A sensible estate with an economical engine was required, and a 1999 Citroen Xsara HDi for sale locally fitted the bill perfectly. Not much to say about this one, it was cheap and did the miles at low cost, and it never went wrong. Was pretty dull though, and I got bored after a year and sold it.

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/533d30c1.jpg

Next to join us was an impulse buy, I loved my Golf so I thought why not buy another old VW (having forgotten all the work I put in to mine to get it anywhere near reliable). I bought a 1988 mk2 Scirocco Scala, it was great fun when it worked. In the end I didn’t have the time to get it up to scratch so I sold to a lad who did. I still see it around locally, and I’m at a point where I’d actually like to buy it back now

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/5F46B811-1761-40C6-8713-CA11758572B6-247-000001CAD5ECB5F3_zpscf9dae30.jpg

The next car was a freebie through my old job. It’s a 1987 Honda Accord GSi and it was free to a good home fro mone of my clients. I took it in and it has been my Summer daily driver ever since. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea, but I like 80’s motors and there’s only 2 or 3 Accord GSi’s left. For anyone up on 3rd gen Accords, the GSi was fitted with the gold top B20A2 DOHC motor. I still own this car, and if there is ever I car I would not part with it’d have to be this one.

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/5B59C146-5A24-4299-A1C6-F9C18F2A9865-755-0000022F475BDB30_zps1f1f45c2.jpg

Next I bought my girlfriend a car to rack up mileage in for work. Nothing exciting, just a 2002 Honda Civic SE Executive. It did a fair few miles and then started burning so much oil that I scrapped it. I did consider rebuilding the motor but to be honest it wasn’t a car that really merited the work, so this one is no longer with us.

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/null_zps8363749b.jpg

This one I spotted for sale on Facebook, it was a resto project. It’s a 1986 Honda Prelude GSi, similar spec to my Accord but with a gold top B20A1 DOHC motor. Not much done with this one, I changed the clutch on my drive as the car was a non mover, then once that was done I gave it a full service and tucked it away into the garage. It needs a lot of bodywork so it’s staying in there until I’m ready to send it off to the body shop, hopefully some time next Summer depending on how my other projects go. Needless to say I still have this car in my posession.

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/1F3DCBA2-4470-473F-9F62-735DD01DCB8D-1083-000001E3136B7302_zpsec1e1c6b.jpg

I saw this car for sale on my way home from work one night, and went back and bought it the next day. It’s a 1993 Isuzu Bighorn 3.1 turbo diesel. I use it as my daily driver in the winter, as something to drive the dogs around in (we have 2 now! Our LAbrador plus a flat coat retreiver, so needed something with a hefty boot…), and for moving other cars about. I absolutely love this truck, and it’s probably one of the best value for money cars I’ve bought so far. I still own this one, and here’s a photo of it up at my parent’s farm, for your viewing pleasure

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/34B38B15-DD2D-4A1F-AA1F-88C1CB73F0DE_zpsnnfxuw6t.jpg

With the demise of the Civic as mentioned earlier, my girlfriend need another car. We searched far and wide for a sensible commuter for sensible money, and in the end we got this 1999 Audi A6. It’s the 1.8 turbo, moves ok for it’s size but it’ll be getting remapped at some point as well as a larger turbo :smiling_imp:

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/20140728_194124_zpsec9fb7b0.jpg

Last but not least, I have another car due to arrive this week. I decided to have a go at importing a car from Japan and chose this one, it’s a 2001 Subaru Legacy GTB E-Tune 2. It has a 280hp twin turbo flat 4 engine coupled with AWD so should be pretty fun to drive, it’s a rare manual with leather interior too  Should be turning up on Thursday at the latest, and then I can put it in for MOT and register it. Can’t wait!

i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m481/jjmartin349571/0DD25DD9-3795-42DF-B67A-1B4685FD274F_zpswkvtmwgw.jpg

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it’s of interest!

I usually bus it to work, I’m not paying $100/mth for parking. However, the times I do drive are usually out of necessity or when I decide to take a nice long drive around the country-side. But yeah, I dunno how I managed to piss off Karma when I haven’t done anything remotely negative…

First car was a 1986 Camaro when I bought it, it was already modded. It had a 350 pulled out of a truck and TH350 3 speed auto tranny swapped in (roughly 240hp), had a few upgraded internals, high comp pistons etc. On paper its still had a 2.8l v6 in it. It had 409,000 km on it when I bought it for 500$ from a farmer. The previous owner painted it pink, redid the interior purple and upgraded the sound system. Unfortunately it had sit in a field for 4 years when I had bought it.

Second car was a 1999 GMC Jimmy SLT. Fully loaded interior, all leather. 4.3l Vortec 190hp. 4 wheel drive. Got it FREE from an old lady. However after a quick trip to a mechanic it needed 4000 dollars worth of work. I promptly gave it away to a family member who needed a car and had money to fix it.

Third car was a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am se, fourdoor. All black, fully loaded, cloth interior. 2.4l I4 150hp. 3 speed auto. Bought it the in final year of high school, had to sell it when I went to college because Tuition was due and student loans were delayed because of a workers strike. Sold it for what I paid for it.

not exact pic but same model
