Hi
I can understand why a game requires admin rights to install (for example it may need to update directx etc). Ideally it shouldn’t need admin privileges if it is only being installed to run under the current user account.
But why does it need to run as an admin? Will the actual release game need admin privileges to run as well? What exactly does it do with the elevated privileges required in order to run?
Maybe because of where it is installed? I.E. /games/automation may be required to run as admin because the Game Folder will not any changes take place unless the Admin authorizes it.
Just my thoughts
I’m not really a big fan of this either. It’s installing to the admin “My Documents” folder. There’s no obvious reason why it couldn’t be installed to a user folder instead, aside from the lack of install options. I suppose logging into the admin account would end the prompt for admin password at runtime, but not everybody logs in as admin for standard use. It’s a security risk to those who are aware of security. Of course, it isn’t the only game I have which forces this type of use.
I had this problem too if you uninstall the game and launcher you can pick what folder it installs to when you reinstall the launcher.
