I’ve been wanting to create the Akina touge from Initial D with the track creator, and the cool thing is, apparently it really exists, as Haruna touge.
Problem is, I got the shape of the curves now with the map, but not the decline/incline of every segment
Does anyone have an idea how I could fix that? Or where I could harvest track data of it and how?
oocities.org/ds_map/map_data/myogi.gif
Google Image search produced this. It doesn’t have measurements or grades on it, but it should give you a place to start! Looks like all -5 to me! hahaha (steep downhill slope)
Do let us know when/if you do finish this. The Haruna Touge would be…
SO
AWESOME!!!
I remember this road from Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2… it’s actually relatively easy compared to just about every other course! However, I’d say the grade of the course was quite mild most of the time. Nothing really stood out to me as being steep besides one or two sections. I think it was around checkpoint 2 (in either direction) that was a little steep, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for the help guys!
I did a first attempt to recreate it, but…I read too late that the image size has to be 1280x720, I took 800x600, by result that it’s offset in the y-axis
I’ll just take it that it’s fate’s way to say that my first attempt was shitty and that I gotta try again. I’ll try to put more of a raceline into it now too.
I got the hang of it now, so I hope it’ll be faster.
This is what I had:
note: I overlayed the traject image of the downhill with a shot of the real thing, the photograph was taken at an angle, so I had trouble overlaying it, but I think it turned out pretty well except for the last bit.
Possibly I’ll do a Initial D styled challenge for it when it’s finished
Edit: Also, thanks to google Earth I was able to determine that the average slope is -5.5%, thanks for the 5% tip Cobalt, I used it on my first attempt
A tournament would be wicked!!!
Can we have an open division within that tournament pretty please? Even if it means requiring at least 0 quality advanced safety? My company cars don’t have any competition because all these tournaments are for budget lite sports this and that which I understand is more in the spirit of the game… but my flights of fancy were practically purpose built for things like touge ;_;
Errr, sure, I’ll put in an unlimited class next to the heavy restrictions I’m planning for the Initial D styled one
Finally a reason to use my insanely priced, 20v turbo 4a-ge! Hachiroku here I come
Technically it doesn’t go out of place for Initial D style with an unlimited class… considering one team stated they used what was basically a full on race car to set a time trial record on their home course.
Well, what’s a full on racecar still is controversial, since FIA has strict regulations too .
The restrictions I was thinking of for the Initial D style class:
More importantly, it’s finished!
It all works fine…except that the y-axis still is off at the end, but this time it doesnt seem to be my fault It all matches up on the track editor with right image size.
Haruna Downhill.zip (1.5 MB)
Oh come on man, I’m not the only one who does this xD But yay infamy!
Also I don’t think my company actually builds any cars that fits the original spec ;_; but I could always put one together just for the sake of being part of something this ridiculously awesome.
two things.

An uphill course would be great too. Can you just somehow flip the track?
-
I just built a bitching S15, which does downhill in 301,56 with a SR20DET with a stroker kit and a bigger turbo. So come at me, guys!!!
I can just flip it, but that’d mean hours in the text copy pasting and editing everything, since the order is upside down too then
Also, not bad! Glad to see a S15 replica here.
My current best is 296.47 (or 4:56:47) with a lightly modified version of a car I made:
Okay, I can’t resist entering something to the unlimited class. Making something that suits the Initial D class would be lots of fun but sadly I don’t quite have the time to do that yet.
Naturally, I’d like to run the Nightfury TDS. This is the road-legal model, road-tyres, 98RON, no race parts car with a whopping track aero and suspension setup. The technical specs can be viewed here. I decided to run the car as is, without any track-specific tuning.
Thus the official time stands at 4:09.53.
Though the following isn’t official and is more for interest, if you put semi-slicks on the TDS, it puts out a 4:05. Optimising the gear ratios for lower end acceleration shaves of 2/10ths, though I can’t get any more than that due to wheelspin (with the traction control on!!!) The even more powerful prototype from which the TDS came, which has a 1kw:1kg ratio, has all racing parts and body completely stripped, could only manage a 4:06, thus confirming that there is such a thing as way too much power for downhill, but then again, anyone who read/watched Initial D would have already said the same thing of the TDS version
…okay I lied, I couldn’t resist throwing something together so here’s a little something to rev up the competition!
I should first declare that I have played around with the chassis text file to achieve the look, but this in no way interferes with how the car adheres to regulations.
This is the '97 Mesos Touge Edition (pronounced Meh-zoh):
Its format and styling inspirations include the likes of the Lancia Stratos (hence the name, get it? ), Mazda RX7 FD3S, and Honda NSX. (Dragawn you’ll be pleased to note that the aero layout is mainly aesthetic and I used only 1 wing and 5 lips ). This particular example is designated the Touge Edition, for it sports a carbon skin over its steel frame, semi-slicks, a dual-clutch 5 spd transmission driving the rear wheels, and a '97 3.6L DOHC EFI Turbo 30v i6 limited to 360hp for tournament purposes (to give it a power/weight ratio of 325bhp/tonne).
It comes equipped with superlight racing seats, standard entertainment, standard safety, and a full complement of driving assists. All in all it provides all the thrills of a true competition compact sports car in a package accessible to the everyday driver.
On the downside, fuel economy in this edition suffers mainly due to gearing and the extreme turbo tuning.
On the Haruna downhill, it achieves a 4:52.88:
I’ll note that not unlike the situation that faced me in the BRC, in this simulation I can easily knock off a second if I remove the front sway bar entirely and make the car ride on the bump stops, but that’s just plain weird and probably not supposed to happen, so I resisted the temptation and left it around the default.
I am more than happy to provide files upon request, if anybody wants to verify anything.
Well played guys, I didn’t expect such a fast FWD car
And ohgod, the torque abomination has struck Loving the styling on the mesos by the way Only two questions: Where are the exhausts? And did you edit the lips hidden?
Am I wrong to say that the fast track time of the Nightfury is mainly due to the downforce? 2 tonnes of frigging downforce. I’d like to see a time of it with half the power
It was time for me to get serious, so here’s a facelifted version (still '92) of the Blitz (since in the BRC I just did something to have a platform ) adjusted to the challenge:
Which comes with these values:
Featuring the same engine design with slightly more stroke than the Slit, which, to be honest, is my weapon of choice for this challenge, an i4T with VVT/L, 0.95 bar of boost (decreased from 1 bar to meet power/weight limitations), with a mere tameness penalty of 5.7%, giving it easy-to-use power for the downhill. Oh, and it only needs regular unleaded.
Coupled with a dual clutch awd 6 speed on a monocoque of steel and carbonfibre panels, this resulted in a time like this:
To my surprise the fuel economy ended up pretty damn good for a sportscar of its time.
Wow that’s very impressive Dragawn. And it goes even further to prove that raw power is clearly not everything on the touge! This will take some real wits and balance. I shall have to come up with a suitable answer in the coming days, though I suspect my chosen platform is at a disadvantage because the wheelbase is longer… there’s the tiny 70s coupe body, wonder how that’ll do…
Also LOL damnit I can’t believe I forgot the exhausts on the Mesos… that’s just embarrassing man. The front lip is indeed 3 lips, to balance out the skewed aero on the rear, but as I was to discover, even 100kg of downforce may actually be too much.
And yeah that FF car pulling 4:53, that’s fully… saico!
May I ask how you used the text files to achieve a certain look, and how that couldn’t be done in-game?
Check your PMs pleb!
@Dragawn: also, I actually think if I reduced the power on the Nightfury TDS, it might actually take the Haruna downhill faster (but only if I also reduce the drag), but I don’t have a clear idea. It’s times like these I wish we had the option of a power limiter device!
