Please try to post in this thread just full/size luxury cars, also called “F Segment”.

The Citröen DS was the official car the for french presidents at this time (a DS even save the life of Charles De Gaulle from a terrorist attack), it was a car representative of the upper class in the 60’s in France, even if it was less expensive than a Bentley or a Jaguar. It’s a small engine that’s true (it’s a recurrent problem on french big cars, even in 2011), but there was lot of innovatives features like hydropneumatic suspensions, turning headlights (in the 60’s!) or power steering… And for the end, it’s an original body types that deserves to be added in Automation
By the way, in the 60’s, just 15-20 years after the 2nd world war, the economy wasn’t the same, and E-Segment and F-Segment were not well established segment like in 2011. There was luxury cars, popular cars, small cars, sport cars and that’s it, except in the US, were the economic situation was very different, with tons of models by manufacturers and by years. That’s why it was the golden age of car industry in the US.
And for our ranking, there is a risk to spread our votes due to the big number of different and beautiful models of cars in the US in this era. That’s why I tried to take 3 cars from the US with bodies the more differents that I could find between each others.
I like the DS too, and I know that it’s a special car. But I still think its rather a large family car / executive car than a full-size luxury car. I will certainly put it on my " '50s large family car / executive cars" list, but not into this one.
I thought a lot about US cars. American cars from the '30s up until the late '70s were completely different to European designs. Especially in the golden age, in the '50s and the '60s. I think they deserve a separate category: the “American full size car”. If the player wants to play Automation historically correct, and he starts a compeny in the US in 1950 he doesn’t need small cars, but a selection of large bodies and strong 6 and 8 cylinder engines. American compact cars like the Rambler, the Ford Falcon and the Plymouth Valiant wouldn’t need a separate category - they could merge into a generic “large family car” class. Same with the sports cars: there weren’t that numerous American sports cars that would require a detached class. But the “US full size” category should be separated. Cars belonging there were unique in design, technical and marketing aspects, so they deserve it.
I understand your point, but if we create a 50’s or 60’s large family car / executive cars category, which car we could add aside of the DS? For me the executive cars era is starting only in the early 70’s with the rise of BMW as an answer to Mercedes-Benz, the Peugeot 604 and Citroën CX in France, the Fiat 130 and Lancia Gamma in Italy and the rise of the swedish manufacturers (Volvo and Saab)…
I agree with you on this point. The same thing could be applied for the US Muscle/Pony cars and even for the mid-size cars/small sedans… Until the lates 80’s, there was numerous cars like Chevrolet Monte-Carlo or Chevelle, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Buick Skylark or Chrysler LeBaron that were very different to the cars of the same size from Europe and Asia.

Full size luxury would include BMW 501/502, MB 220, MB 300SE, MB300 SEL6.3, Lagonda Rapide, Citroen SM, Daimler Sovereign,
Large Family would be Borgward P100, Volvo 164, Peugeot 504, Rover 3500, Riley 4/72,

I think full size luxury and large family could be a single “class” of car bodies, in the game.
On the same “body”, you can build your Peugeot 504 and sell it as a luxury car (if you give your 504 a big engine, luxury optional and so on) or a large family car. It’s your choice, but the “body class” can be the same.
Then, the game, in its “reports”, tells you that your car is sold as a luxury car, because of engine, features, price, … .
What I say is that “body class” isn’t the same as “car class”. On the same body class (let me say, station wagon cars), you can design a Skoda Octavia Wagon and a Audi RS6. The car body is the same (at least, body class), but car class isn’t.

I agree with you that we shouldn’t look at engine, interior quality or badge prestige when we decide with class the car bodies are in, since in Automation we the players will have control over that independently from what body we choose (assuming the engine will fit).
What I don’t agree on is that a large family car body fitted with luxury options could be a full sized luxury car, I don’t think it can be a compact executive or (since that’s a newer class) a executive car, but the size gap between a luxury car and a large family car is to big.
For instance the Peugeot 504 is a full meter shorter than a Mercedes-Benz 600 and that’s not even the Pullman version.
Same with the Skoda Octavia and Audi A/S/RS6 Avant I would say the Audi is one size up from the Octavia but in the same class as Superb Combi.
