A Car for Sapporo

Introduction

Sapporo is a Japanese car brand based in Hokkaido.
They make many types of cars such as sedans and hatchbacks, but Sapporo always missed something in their brand: a pickup truck.
That’s why our engineers and designers at Sapporo are searching for designers that are worthy of designing our new Pickup Truck: The Sapporo Kamui.

Inspirations

Sapporo’s cars

IRL Cars

Tips

Sapporo cars usually tend to have somewhat big but aggressive headlights. Consider this while making your car.
Almost every car of the brand has this black fascia between the 2 headlights that can even incorporate a grill (for example look the sedan and the suv)
You can decide whether to call it Kamui or not, but if you decide to change the name I recommend inspiring the name from Hokkaido places, which is what Sapporo does (For example, the SUV is called Saroma, inspired from the Lake in Hokkaido, another example is the Coupe being called Tokachi like the Circuit.)
Sapporo mainly uses Inline-4 engines for standard cars, Inline-5 for premiums and V8 for Luxury cars. For a pickup like this Sapporo would probably use a V6 or a V8, but you can use whatever engine you think fits your car.

Good luck!

This would’ve been a CSC if it weren’t for the fact that the current round hasn’t finished yet.

Is there an existing current lineup so we can take ques from other models?

I know but since my build has been binned and the winner will probably do the next challenge I made it a challenge for itself :frowning:

You have the lineup in the inspirations

Prologue

Kontir dealership in Chicota, Texas

James Gaspedal, employee of this dealership known for selling his truck for 1500 dollars back in 2022, currently has a slow day. As such, he is at his desk.
Peace and quiet that was present for last few hours was broken by bellow of a wild animal

JAMES!!
WHAT?!?

Manager refused to answer and there were several painfully quiet seconds.

Check the mail.

James decided to check the mail, but not before he told his manager to go fuck himself

Protagonist was looking at screen and picture completely puzzled

You had been chosen to make an ad for this.
Without my consent.
nOT LIKE YOU HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO ATM

Pause

Fine. Do we have material or am i supposed to hunt for that myself?

Thankfully, there was material for this proposition. Sadly, person that was actually responsible for putting this project in motion had suffered pain that was father having heart attack. Prompt reaction meant said dad was quickly stabilised, but event nevertheless shook said guy so they called for some days off.
James looked at fading picture of old blue pickup truck on his desk and got to work.

PROPOSAL

This is our proposal for your new pickup truck. We will agree that this is likely less common approach you will get out of couple possibilities, considering your requirements.
Headquarters of this branch of our company are placed in Texas, USA and so you get Texas numberplates on proposal.
Due to it being dual cab full-size pickup truck, potential customers will more likely than not also be from the land of the free.

Now, inclusion of turbocharged inline 6 might be considered as weird choice, but we see that overwhelming amount of market perceives that to be the future and potential alternative for strong pulling power in case V8 might not be socially acceptable.
It, quite clearly, isnt lacking in speed and capability just because it has small turbo engine

We sincerely look forward to your verdict

Best regards,
Kontir USA

The 2025 Sapporo Hayate

By Bateman Design

Australia is the land of utes, so Bateman Design is uniquely placed to design the best ute possible.

Taking inspiration from the best aspects of some of the best utes on sale, with a unique BD twist on Sapporo’s existing styling cues, the Hayate is a design that effortlessly blends stylish and tough.

But the Hayate’s prowess doesn’t stop at the looks, with a Rotomax turbo four cylinder providing more than enough performance and towing capacity to not just go toe-to-toe with the rest of its class, but soundly beat them too.

The Sapporo Hayate by Bateman Design, class-leading Australian style.

A Car for Sapporo

It’s judging time!

24 June 2025: Sapporo Head of Car Concepts and Projects would enter his office: "There are a couple of cars to talk about. We'll start from the Sapporo Akan."

He would glance at the specs on the vehicle and say:
“Clearly the person that made this car knows good about pickup engineering, but hasn’t played much with engines, especially in this car. Why put a Cast Iron block in a car from 2020? Plus it’s not like this is a cheap car. Well, then we got a 5 valve DOHC that is rarely used nowadays..
Can’t say anything about the engine reliability though.”
“Why open differential? It’s not supposed to be cut on prices.. He could’ve used an LSD; plus the medium tires wouldn’t do very well in a pickup that’s supposed to be goated at offroading.”

Review

Alright so the car itself is not bad at all, but there could be some parts that can be changed such as the engine.
Talking about design aspect, the front lights could’ve been worked on a bit more.
Body molding is sufficient and conforms well to the truck.
No comments on the rear as it’s good except when you take a look at the bashplate, I don’t know what happened while making that part.
I’m not very experienced with engines myself, but I recommend avoiding the DOHC-5 setup. It’s extremely rare: only a few engines, like some late '90s Ferraris or the 4A-GE Silvertop, actually used it. A DOHC-4 configuration would be a much more realistic and widely-used choice.
Also, when I saw that the flow used by the exhaust was almost 200% I was stunned. :skull:
I feel like using a turbo could’ve added that bit of torque that is always useful on trucks

That’s all for today!
Many thanks to @DuceTheTruth100 for their participation in this challenge.
