THE CLOCK WARRIOR

THE LORE

“What… am I?”

AutoCorp. A beloved tech company, producing everyday electronics such as TVs, fans, clocks, you name it. They also sponsored the government’s projects and provided job and training opportunities for the townsfolk. Their latest breakthrough were AutoUnits (Units for short), half-human, half-robot peacekeepers. Repurposed from inmates sourced from the local prison, these Units have proven themselves to be efficient, effective, and highly controlled… so their CEO, Erika Ludwig said.

That was before one of their breakthroughs… literally broke through the window and escaped the lab.

Enter Goji Yukata. A happy-go-lucky former journalist, arrested for “interfering with government business” (read: sniffing around too much on the AutoUnits’ ethical issues) and converted into a Unit. Having escaped the lab, he goes by the name the people gave him, “the Clock Warrior.” With the help of Miho, his childhood friend and mechanic, he’s determined to uncover the company’s true intentions, have them punished for their crimes, and clear his name.

  • Double life: His belt allows him to mask his current appearance with his previous one, attracting less attention during his downtime. Though this means the Units can do this too!
  • Auto-no-more: Survive from the Units coming after him. Train and unleash his moves and skills, enhanced by the “upgrades” courtesy of AutoCorp!
  • Neighborhood-friendly: Help around the neighborhood in between your superhero work and gain favorability from the people. Who knows, maybe it’ll convince the police he isn’t that bad!
  • Pick your fights: AutoCorp has alerted the police about the dangerous rogue Unit that the Clock Warrior is, and their more secretive, high-tech forces are out to get him too. Careful, though; aggression against them lowers his favorability!

THE CHALLENGE

“What do you mean you need a ride? I thought you can fly?”

No, he can’t. The Clock Warrior can glide, and use his back booster to gain more momentum, but even that requires lots of resting to recharge. He needs a unique-looking small, light, and nimble vehicle to chase down those pesky Units (this includes running through busy streets, navigating back alleys and dirt roads, and even wall-riding and roof-to-roof jumps), maybe even to fight them (think the Cavaliere from Devil May Cry 5) and get away from the police. The design of his main vehicle is delegated to the community, giving them a chance to unleash their creativity and see it come to life in game.

THE RULES

    • Trim/variant year: 2020
    • Model/Variant year: 2000/newer
    • Car model & engine family name: AGC40 - [Forum Username]
    • Car trim & engine variant name: Free
    • Must have at least 1 wheel in contact with the ground
    • Advanced trim settings: Free
    • Engineering won’t be judged. There will be stat bars, however, as explained later.
    • Must be built on the stable version.
    • No V16s!

PRIORITIES

  • Aesthetics
What our main character needs is a small, light, and nimble vehicle, preferably one that can pass through narrow alleyways. Also, consider incorporating his clock motif and color scheme to the vehicle.

  • Creativity
Aside from the rules written above, going wild with the design and proportions is encouraged. Also, since there’s no way to judge this in Automation, any unique features and abilities that the vehicle might have must be elaborated on a post, whether it be weapons, a speed boosting mechanism, a jumping mechanism, or anything else. Anything that adds to the gameplay will help with the judging.

  • Uniqueness
The vehicle needs to be unique, recognizable for people to associate it with the hero that our main character is; don’t want it to look like just another sports bike on the road.

  • The winning design will be used as the Clock Warrior’s “iconic ride,” visible in promotional materials and the game’s cover art. But this doesn’t mean the other entries get excluded; they will be alternative, purchasable rides unlockable throughout the game.

STAT BARS

Now I know I said engineering won’t be judged (and that’s true!), which is why these stats won’t affect judging, just a little graphic thing I want to include with the vehicles in the results.

  • Upgradability
Determines whether or not Miho can upgrade a vehicle. Miho’s impressively broke; any vehicle with techpool costs above $40M and/or priced above $20.000 will be listed as not upgradable, and vice versa.
  • Terrain
Determines what terrain the vehicle is more suited for. Drivability, Sportiness, and Offroad in game factors to this stat.
  • Power
Determines how powerful the vehicle is, how fast it can go, and how long it can stay on wallrides. Horsepower count in game translates to this stat.
  • Durability
Determines the health of your vehicle, how much damage it can take (by falling off, getting hit/shot at, or using it to fight) before it gets totalled. Reliability in game translates to this stat.
  • Fuel
Determines how long you can use your vehicle before needing to refuel. Fuel economy in game translates to this stat.

CHANGELOG

Added “Upgradability” to “Stat Bars”
Clarified the bike’s in-game uses in “The Challenge”

That would simulate the size of the Clock Warrior in-game - so how tall was he before he received his “upgrades”?

Also, are we explicitly required to create a motorcycle (or monocycle, if you want to make something with just one wheel) of some sort, or are we also allowed to create something with more wheels (a 3-wheeled trike, or even an actual 4-wheeled car, if it’s small and light enough)?

That means techpool is irrelevant, although it can still affect the Automation stats that determine the four stat bars.

I’m assuming sportiness determines how well the vehicle performs on paved surfaces, while the offroad stat affects how well-suited it is to traversing unpaved terrain. Also, I’m expecting acceleration to affect the Power stat, but should Durability also depend on safety in addition to reliability? Finally, I suppose drivability influences how easy the vehicle is to handle on any surface, paved or not.

About the same height, though he won’t be riding his flashy bike while looking like a normal human.

A car might be pushing it, keep in mind that vehicles that can enter narrow alleyways are preferred for this challenge. Also I’d say this since this isn’t among the inspirations list, I’d recommend some sort of quad bike if you want to go 4-wheeler.

True… I might have something to add for the stat bars later.

Also for the last part, I’d like to keep it simple for me and the entrants, so that they won’t spend too much time on raising those stats and focus more on the design part.

Zephorus P101

Another addition to the Zephorus P series, the P 101 made specially for The Clock Warrior boasts a collection of useful features such as:

Recall
The Zephorus P 101 makes it’s way back to The Clock Warriors side, through the use of enhanced gyroscopics and adaptive suspension. There is no cooldown for this ability.
Not available when offroad or similar, only known routes, rider is still at fault for any damages that occur in recall mode

Reboot
The wheel caps emit bright light, temporarily blinding foes and scrambling sensors effictively stunning everything in the vicinity for a length of time. This has a medium cooldown
This includes the rider if not positioned on the bike or behind cover

Restore
The Clock Warrier can rest upon the seat, regaining vitality. This can only be done when stationary and there are no enemies present. This has a long cooldown.

Rocket
When riding the Zephorus P 101 the rider can apply an overboost in a straight line, using all the power available. This increases fuel consumption by a high amount. Useful to deal extra momentum based damage or to escape.

Digital Extras

The P 101 has a 1.0L Turbo V4 producing 272hp in rocket mode (1.1Bar) and 204hp in regular mode (0.6Bar)

Top speed is 177mph

The damn thing wouldn’t go below $20,000 without becoming a moped or weighing nearly a ton, so it’s $23,700

These cars are not a real product of any manufacturer, any likeness or other similarities to real brands is purely coincidence. Actual model may change in final submission.

:france: A French Fighter Jet On 2 Wheels :france:

Enter The XRK
A 500hp V8 beast made to conquer the world at 271MPH and a 0-60 of 1.9 seconds
Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire...

Abilities:
  1. Dual Machine Guns

Two machine guns mounted at the front of which the Clockman may use against the units which can be fired in succession.

  2. Dragon’s Breath

An ECU tune to spit fuel and nitro out through the exhaust to create a burst of flames that can be maintained as long as there is fuel.

  3. Self Destruction

For whatever reason, this super bike has the ability to self-destruct and can have a set destination as to where to detonate, something close to a self-guided missile on wheels. The bike will overheat itself and overclock the electrical components while dumping fuel through the injectors to force the bike to explode.

You Can’t Outrun This Fighter Jet On Wheels…

AGC40: REVIEWS

Right, three bikes, isn’t it? This will be a piece of cake! Let’s get right to the first one!

Whatever you say… you might want to step away from there, though.

Zephorus P101

Following the sounds of metal hitting each other, glass breaking, and someone screaming, the first bike comes right at The Clock Warrior before stopping and deploying its kickstand.

ZEPHORUS P101
by @Riley

Woah! How did it do that? Also, is that blood on the back?

Uhh… ahem, this is the Zephorus P101, and what you just saw was the Recall feature. It’s basically like summoning your trusty horse by your side, though it can only go where you have been. Another thing this baby has is an overboost feature, meaning it can burn lots of fuel to go very fast in a straight line, perfect for when you want to ram, or to scram.

Haha… good one. I’d say, though, we’re off to a strong start here. This one seems to take the more simple and futuristic approach, even got touch screen controls, but is still quite aggressive and sharp. I mean, look at this wing on the back, and this seat which, not gonna lie, looks really comfortable. Reminds me of those bikes in those sci-fi animes… I like the black color and red accents, how it compliments this… new body of mine. I like how thin it is, probably makes it easier to bring into tight spaces. All in all, I already think topping this one will be hard…

Ah, I forgot, it also has an ability to jam sensors and blind other people around it for a short time—WAIT DON’T PRESS THAT—

…worth it.

Author’s note: Apologies for the missing light fixtures here! Rest assured, it did load correctly before the pic was taken, therefore this won’t affect the judging.

Chrono Trike

After adjusting their eyes, they bring in the second bike, er, trike.

CHRONO TRIKE
by @CrazyCat808

Whoa, this one’s huge compared to the last one.

Oh, don’t you worry, Chrono Trike’s the name, and adaptability’s the game… sorry. You’re able to adjust those front wheels into a wide stance for better stability in battles, or a narrow stance for not-so-wide areas or high-speed chases. The ride height can be adapted for different terrains, too.

Sweet, so this one doesn’t have much combat-assisting abilities, but can handle almost every terrain I throw at it, right?

Right! What do you think about the design, though?

This one, I feel… took a completely different approach from the last one. While the Zephorus was sleek and futuristic, the Chrono Trike is more… analog, with the exposed mechanical workings and the analog gauges and buttons on the dash. The detail you can see from here is insane, but even ignoring that, the general shape of this trike is really unique. The colors compliment me as well. Only thing I’m on edge about is how big and long it looks, even with the narrower stance, so even if it does fit in tighter spaces, I’m not sure how well it’ll maneuver in there. But honestly, overall, still an appealing design.

Oh! One more thing, this one has something called the “Temporal Recall Mechanism,” which—

Not to be confused with the Zephorus’ Recall ability, is able to rewind time itself by up to 30 seconds, allowing me to undo errors, get out of places or situations I didn’t intend to go, and one can say, “rewrite fates,” right? It does play really nice into the “clock” theme, and really helpful since I don’t have that kind of ability myself.

…yeah… did you press that clock on the dashboard?

…no?

…whatever. Onto the last one!

Rafale XRK

At last, the third and final bike was brought into the workshop.

RAFALE XRK
by @happyfireballman

This one reminds me of something like a Dodge Tomahawk, built for power and straight-line speed. And it looks the part too, like it’s flexing all of the muscles it has on me. I respect how… bold it looks, exposed engine and all. Definitely a menacing looking one, and the red color fits me enough, I feel. Not a fan of the bulges over the wheels, though. And how square the rear is, doesn’t seem to go along with the rest of the bike.

What is a “dodge tomhawk”? Anyways… this is the Rafale XRK, and you can say it’s “a fighter jet on 2 wheels…” care to guess why?

“Fighter jet,” huh? What, does it come with weapons? Maybe spit out flames from the back, even? Heh heh… it does, doesn’t it?

It has a pair of machine guns mounted at the front, as well as a V8 that gets you up to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds. Also yes, it has a flamethrower in the back that uses up your fuel and nitrous.

Damn, I guess the aggressive looks didn’t lie… oh, what’s this?

DON’T TOUCH THAT! Ahem… that’s how you fire up the self-destruct function. It basically turns the thing into a guided missile; you can set a target where the bike will speed off to and explode.

…why though? Wait, does that mean this bike has a one-time use?

Well… if you detonate it, of course. But don’t worry, I can rebuild it if you ever do… maybe.

Man, looking at these again… how can I possibly pick only one of these three?

You said you only need one as your main vehicle… Besides, if you want a change of pace, I can get you the other ones later on, at a price of course. Also, didn’t you say this would be a piece of cake?

AGC40: RESULTS

What a pity… who would’ve thought the fuel cells would be my creations’ Achilles heel. Oh well, at least that pest’s gone.

You… you won’t get away with this! That blast must’ve alerted the cops… they’ll get here quickly, and… and–

Hah, that’s where you’re wrong, dear.

Money and influence are sweet talkers, and mine will say “I wanna continue bettering lives and innovating by building my peace-keeping, people-serving Units.” Do you think the people you’re so desperate to protect would refuse that?

…so after I get rid of you, I’ll just scurry from here and this all will be reported as a successful demo against the rebellious Clock Warrior and his companion… I’ll be the people’s hero, and no one will dare stop me! Hahahah… haha… hee…

...Heh?

No no no WAIT–

BONK

…oh, pipe down, won’t you?

WINNER

CHRONO TRIKE
by @CrazyCat808

Outlandish, eye-catching, and exciting. Just the thing our main character needs.

2nd PLACE

ZEPHORUS P101
by @Riley

Simple, sharp, and futuristic, featuring fun abilities. While the design feels somewhat safe compared to the other entries, still a solid and pleasing entry overall.

3rd PLACE

Rafale XRK
by @happyfireballman

Powerful, bold, and straightforward, featuring rather extreme abilities. While a fun idea, visually I feel it could use some more work (though I know the difficulty that would have, being a fully 3D build and all).

Author’s note: Thank you for participating and following through this round! Once again, apologies for taking so long. I hope you enjoyed reading through these posts as much as I did writing them.

Also I did say the winner entry will feature on the game's cover...

Wonderful reviews @azkaalfafa, I do agree that I could’ve been more consistent with the styling as the bulges were made to cover up the inner parts as when I was editing the chassis to be small for a motor cycle.

Here’s my take on if this were to be a show:

The Zephorus seems like a starting season bike, where the clock man gets his bike in the pilot, of which in the later mid series it gets destroyed. This bike would be a trusty stead that the Clock Warrior would have and there’d be a scene where he’ll be calling it one last time in order to save his life and as mentioned would get destroyed in the process.

Only for him to be upgrade along with the Chrono Trike being his new mode of transportation, which it’d be the bike he’ll have for the longest of which there’ll be a scene of using the time rewind in order to get a second chance.

Then nearing the end, he’s stripped of everything and he needs to overcome a giant evil, that he goes through a more “darker” arc of which the Rafale comes in to represent the changed but still powerful Clock Warrior, he finally has to do the ultimate sacrifice and detonates the motorcycle to finally bring justice.

TL:DR -

Zephorus: Start of the hero’s journey
Chrono Trike: Hero upgrading
Rafale: Hero lost it all
