I would like to see different brand of heads and cam dur. and engines spec you could chose from, as in Chevy,Ford, Dodge and so on crete engines. Just a thought, Diff injectors sizes for fuel injection, Different carb sizes, and please put the timing in degrees.
I think you’re looking for something rather different to what Automation is for, it’s about running your own car company, so choosing Ford/Chevy heads/engines
A: not really make sense as you’re building your own stuff in your own company and B: Get us sued. Plus I don’t think there would be that many interesting design/gameplay differences between similar heads of different brands anyway.
Cam duration is rolled into the cam profile slider, we tried making more detailed cam design but it added nothing to gameplay, was hard to explain and understand and just all around sucked.
Fuel injectors aren’t an interesting design choice, they’re either big enough to flow enough fuel or they’re not. We make the assumption that they’re always specced to be big enough to flow the quantity of fuel you want.
Ignition timing in real life is a complicated 3d map of different advance figures under different loads and rev ranges. It wouldn’t make sense to give it a specific number in degrees, as what RPM and load would that be at? Instead we have a general ignition timing tuning slider, representing how generally aggressive/advanced the timing is across the entire operating range of the engine. Makes much more sense from a gameplay point of view.
Different carb sizes are difficult from an art point of view to do correctly, but the range of different carby setups lets you build an engine for most different applications with no issue. Carbies also get bigger with the physical size of the engine.
If you’re looking for something to build detailed replicas of specific american V8s, you might want to look at some of the “desktop dyno” type programs out there.
