I wish I could actually test the dfference between the 2 myself to see how big of a time variation there is, and to get a better comarison with your times but I don’t have AC and doubt my current laptop could run it well and the game costs an extra $20 if I wanted to get the xbox version. If you wanted to run a week on project cars sometime after the 16th of the month then I could get a pretty good comparison, although still not on the same platform the game physics should be the same. The only other sim racers I have are F1 2016 and formula truck 2013 which I doubt you woul want to run a week on.
EDIT: Does AC give a cornering G for cars? On forza it says that it can pull 1.10g which if that is higher than what you get in AC then I could put a grip handicap on my car to get a more comparable time.
Forza has a G calculator built into the tuning screen and for both 60mph and 120mph tests it displays 1.10g. Of course thats simiulated G so I don’t know if on track I actually reach that.
Didn’t check the maximum G on the BMW this time around, as I figured I’d give myself precisely one shot with a much more aggressive alignment setup (street tyres, slightly lower pressure on the rear tyres to reduce slippage, maximum negative camber on the rears, slightly increased negative camber on the front, slightly reduced toe-in on the rear). This allows me to push even harder with the throttle (i.e. make up even more for the natural deficits of mouse control).
As a result, managed to knock off another 4 seconds, though I’m pretty much driving at 98% on the limit now and went rather too deep in Wehrseifen, and wobbled off the line at Pflanzgarten which lost me quite a bit of speed. Still don’t know if it’s at parity with Forza 6, but suffice to say on street tyres, at least as far as mouse control goes, getting below 8:12 will be a tough ask.
aaaaaaaaaaaaand it fucking screenshotted the wrong screen so I am forced to post this instead:
You can even tune the alignment on the car? The only tuning forza allows on stock cars is tire pressure, other than that were stuck with the “factory” settings. With a bit of tuning i could probably get under 8:10
I did some reading around and basically found that essentially due to console, inputs in Forza are quite heavily filtered for convenience (e.g. ideal trigger pressures for braking are the same on every car at every speed). Also it’s not that different from Forza 5 and I’ve had quite a bit of time with Forza 5, and can safely say that one’s ability to correct high speed issues while keeping on the throttle is really not kosher. Commentary on AC, however, is controversial. I’ve not played pCARS, RF/RF2 or iRacing, so I couldn’t tell you how they stacked up, but it seems that comparisons between Forza and AC are somewhat easier because it’s simply the difference between arcade and sim.
The end conclusion is that it’s impossible to meaningfully compare times between the two games.
EDIT: arrrrgh addicted to this. I keep coming back for more. But it’s really hard and I’m pushing so hard I risk making fatal errors. Dropped the rear tyre pressure even more, dropped the toe-in because I feel that deterioration in handling at the end of the lap is due to tyre wear, temp and pressure rising too high, so I just compensate by being braver at the start. Immediate difference is that the car is harder to handle, but can corner faster and exit at higher speed.
Some Larrys were injured in the making of this laptime:
What difference are you using between front and rear? For me, F:31/R:27 (psi) and I set the camber on both around -1.8 or -2, feels really neutral. Didn’t touch the bump or toe settings.
And how many laps did you do to burn up over 20 litres of fuel
Front pressure: 35
Rear pressure: 33
Front camber: -1.0
Rear camber: -2.3
Front toe: 4
Rear toe: 3
And yes, I actually reduced the fuel amount for this run to about 12L. I can’t remember if that was covered in the rules or not, I think I left it open.
I don’t think so, but can’t be sure. I spend too much time on Nordschleife to really notice
Also fuck yeaaaaah broke past 8:10, now I’m only about 4 seconds off Herr Horst von Saurma’s time of 8:05ish. Even discounting the errors I made at Spiegelkurve, Breidscheid, Eiskurve, Kleinskarussell and Hohenrain, there’s not much left to cut off without switching to wheel, for sure!
Here’s an example of Saurma in an M3 E92 (but it’s the manual Coupe, not the spec available in AC). Funny cabin angle aside, it’s a masterclass on racing lines in Nordschleife, especially all those bloody late apices (note the hilarious but also somewhat irritating rage posts from a certain YouTube Racer in the comments section)
