Bad and Devilish, A villain car challenge (6th place out)

anyone else still creating a car for this challange? i will cut it close to deadline, you’ll see why :DD

I’m am too, I’m just struggling to make a decent interior

Teaser

“Chief, we are back from our salvage mission, but we saw something concerning: Survivors, probably hostile, ripping through a sandstorm in a high-speed vehicle at the Northern Dunes. They were heading this way before turning to the west.”

”We made out at least two of them inside that machine, but based on the fact that they’re all alone without escorts in a such heavily modified vehicle in the middle of a sandstorm can mean only one thing: they were here with a reason…”

“I see… We have to get going before it gets dark, pack your things.”

Galver Rattlesnake “The Ironjaw

The vision

Following the events in the Teaser

The main protagonist scrambles to their truck: a pickup truck, fitted with offroad parts, a few protection tubes and plates, and finally, a large barrel welded onto the bed which is half-full of gasoline. The other two clan members stay back to pack up all important things.

However, as soon as the protagonist left, the hostile team arrives at the base camp. They make quick work of the first clan member, deeming two unnecesseary for the action, but take the other hostage. They want to get their hands on the fuel without a fight, as the last thing they want is for the fuel to leak through a bullet hole.

They go after the protagonist’s truck, quickly catch up, and thats where the client’s short film would begin.

This section can be ignored if the director has other plans, after all we only provide the car, not the script.

Unique features

Exterior rollcage

Movie-verse: A heavy duty steel rollcage is necesseary to make the car be able to survive fierce car-to-car battles, hits, shunts, crashes. The rollcage holds the car together, as the original Rattlesnake shell is almost pure rust.

Real life: A cool looking rollcage, creates the soul of the car. Its made out of actual rollcage materials and offers close to race car level protection of the interior.

Painted rust

Movie-verse: Rust is deemed unnecesseary to remove, because everyone thinks they’ll have to change the part before rust could do anything to it. (Some exceptions apply, ex. suspension. joints, and other constantly moving parts.)

Real life: Rust is painted on the metal or aluminium parts with the Rustificator 9000 rust painter, making rustification easy and fun. :DD … dont ask pls

Metal rippers

Movie-verse: Made out of cast iron, these are meant to protect the car from frontal impacts with other vehicles and make short work of pedestrians on-foot enemies. It also gives the car its name.

Real life: Made out of aluminium, its meant to be a cool-looking while also functioning bumper in case of an accident during filming.

! Driver(s) are not premitted to go faster than 15 km/h near the film crew unless cameras are set and ready for action. !

Rear steel rod

Movie-verse: Made out of steel, it offers extra protection against rear shunts and rocks.

Real life: Made out of aluminium, it functions as a rear bumper while keeping the scrap style.

Roof-mounted machine gun

Movie-verse: An M2 Browning with a drum mag, unusual combo but the survivors made it work.

Real-life: A replica of an M2 Browning, non-functional but looks cool af. Has two-axis rotation. An orange Airsoft tip is required to be on the end of the barrel when not taking professional photso or filming (you can find it near the center console).

Gunner seat

Movie-verse: An elevated metal seat for the gunner to sit on. It can be accessed both from inside and outside.

Real life: We had to make the gunner be able to actually operate the gun somehow, so we cut open the roof and put a metal plate above the rear seats. (Cushion pillow not included.)

Hood exhausts

Movie-verse: No mufflers are needed in the apocalypse, these exhausts are basically the engine’s headers. They are technically not hood exhausts, since they dont go through the hood, this is to not make the survivors inside the car get their lungs full of CO2 if they forget their helmet.

Real Life: These are fake :(( The real exhausts go through one-one straight-through mufflers and are well hidden under the chassis. The single muffler/exhaust allows the engine to be still loud without causing hearing damage to the film crew. Fire spitting through the fake tips can be done with movie magic, or specialized equipment if necesseary.

Offroad wheels

Movie-verse: Offroad tyres are a must for travelling, as most surfaces one will face in this world is just sand or is covered in it. These types of tyres are one of the most valuable items in the desert, alongside fuel, oil and engine parts. (un)Luckily, the hostile survivors even have spares in the back of the car.

Real life: Filming anything on rough terrain will require offroad tyres. Plus an offroad beast cant be an offroad beast without offroad tyres right?

Offroad suspension

Movie-verse: Salvaged from various cars, with a bit of fine tuning it provides a stable and comfortable ride on the dunes.

Real life: Fully custom lifted suspension, great for bumps and small jumps but not as good for rocks as it looks.

Exterior handles

Movie-verse: The handles on the main rollcage bar allows the front-seaters to climb in more easily through the window (since you cant really open the doors), and the rear-side ones lead up to the gunner position, allowing exterior access.

Real life: The handles were a last minute idea, your stunt team will thank us. :))

Roof-mounted fog lights

Movie-verse: Without any streetlights (or streets in general) these little things make night driving actually viable.

Real life: They were relatively cheap to buy and easy to install, and they add so much to the looks of the machine that we could not not put them on.

Street legality

You may wonder “how in the hell is this street legal?!”

Well im glad you ask! On-road safety for each part was covered in the Unique Features tab, now its time for us to introduce you to our brand-new

LEGALLIGATOR PLATE

This little piece of metal and electronics got you covered! It is located in the “trunk” of the Ironjaw and can be rotated up via hinge!

It includes: a pair of indicators, a brake light, a taillight and finally a totally valid Californian license plate!

No further questions will be answered regarding the LEGALLIGATOR PLATE, thank you.

(ps: cover it up with some cloth during filming to avoid ending up on some CinemaSins type channel)

Phew, well this is done. Biggest automation project so far, 252 fixtures, probably around 15-20 hours of designing. I kinda twisted the host’s words and literally ignored the inspirations (and street legality rule till last minute khmkhmkhm) so I dont mind if i get binned because of this, plus my car absolutely does not fit the others’, which is fine, since i now have a badass mad max style offroad muscle car to brag about muhehehe.

Thanks again to @AKA_NOBUDDY for hosting this competition, i cant wait to see how well you guys do regardless of me :DD

Also, huge thanks to @Maxbombe for creating his rust materials workshop mod.

9. @Mausil with the Stalwartness

It’s a quiet night, before the phone rings, the producer rubs his eyes as he answers the phone swiftly, clearly been waiting for this call

  • “So, what do we got so far?”
  • “Well, it’s quite an offer, some guys down in the south it seems. They call it the “Stalwartness” and refused to elaborate, from the pictures, it looks like a two door coupe.”
  • “Huh, you got pictures? paint me a picture of it”
  • “I uhm… it ain’t pretty”
  • “Doesn’t need to be, come on man! be creative… tell me the details you see”
  • “I would if it looked any special… it’s a lot of blocks… your 70s attempt at a muscle car…”
  • “Huh, Is it really that plain?”
  • “Yeah, But if that’s not the deal breaker, I can tell you more about how the car drives and feels? Had our stunt driver give it a go… but before i say anything, it’s a 400 horse power rear wheel drive car…”
  • “Huh, what the driver said?”
  • “It’s a boat that slides like crazy, you either drive straight or it will go spinning all the corners. AIn’t no way we can shoot a movie without a pro driver behind the wheels at all the scenes…”
  • “How much they’re asking for?”
  • “Only 28k”
  • “Not bad, but I’d still rather spend the money right than on something cheap, keep looking”

Final verdict: Too basic of a design and undercooked engineering. And no context or story was given around the submission which did not help the weak submission.

RING RING

click

  • “Eyyyyy, hey you doing!”

  • “Stressed but good enough. Tell me you got to see the car”

  • “The car? oh right the Longsword! yeah, i saw it. Not sure if it’s what you want to put on a screen.”

  • “Ugh… How so?”

  • Well don’t get me wrong, it’s a sporty car, it’s quick too. Maybe a bit too much, it’s a rear wheel drive, really short first gear, and quite powerful with it’s V10… I don’t trust no actor in this damn thing unless it’s on back of a truck rig…

  • “I mean we can do that, I’ll jest rent a rig and have our stunt drivers do the chase scnes…”

  • “Ahh, you see… I would say that would be worth the hassle if it was a good looking thing… it looks ugly…”

  • “I can work with ugly… doesn’t need to be pretty”

  • No i mean, like a wimpy ugly… it looks like a neutered dog… hell, it says “BADDIES” on it… unless you’re making a comedy, this ain’t it. Man, i don’t know what to tell you, for 35k, you can do better than this car…

  • “Damn it… fine… i’m gonna send the address to this next one”

FINAL VERDICT: While an improvement, the car’s appearance and engineering both where undercooked and could’ve used more details and time.

  1. From @ga3t4no The SAC

The producer, for the first time has arrived at the garage himself to check the car he got told about.
“So, where’s this beast you were talking about”
He said as he rubbed his hands together excited.
“Ah, the Black Wall right? come follow… but let me paint you a picture of what we had in mind…”
“Oh, alright, ummm, sure? the writer is very keen to changing the characters and plot if the car’s good enough!”
“Oh yes? great, imagine this… 1995, the city is full of racers and people who use imports from Japan or Europe right? But there’s this urban legend, the mythical “Black Wall” that appears behind you when there’s a debt to the mafia you owe…”
“Keep talking, it’s interesting”
“Ah yes, imagine this, your main guy, from my understanding has to deliver a package right?”
“Right…”
“But the package is what the mob needs cause the sender owes the mob! and the Black wall is sent after your main character which has to evade our car!”
“Huh, interesting idea… but lemme see the “Black Wall” you keep talking about”
“Here it is!”
“Oh, ahhh, wow, intresting design… is it a SUV? a sedan maybe? wait is that a truck bed in the back!!!”

“Oh yes, unconventional, but in every sense, captures all eyes on it. It’s like an ALIEN
“Can’t argue with that, it wont have trouble standing out… tell me about what you guys did with it”
“Oh, the engine we used a German V12, makes around 400 horse power, we made it rear wheel drive but it seats comfortably since it’s 2 tons in weight!”
“Oh… ok, i’d still wanna test drive it if possible.”
“Yeah no worries, get in!”

“Oh, uhmmm… it’s not very comfortable…”
“It’s good enough no?”
“Eh, not really, these actors complain about everything now days, god forbid we wanna have them seat for an hour! this thing will make their precious butts hurt for sure!”
“No worries, here’s the keys sir”

moments later in the highway
“No kidding, the engine seems effortless… but why do i see the check engine light already?”
“Huh, we’ll fix it no worries”
“Yeah, it’s a fine car, don’t get me wrong, but I wont trust the actors driving it… it’s a bit roguh to control all it’s power…”
“May be, we can discuss some traction aids if needed?”
“No man, sorry, it’s already really expensive as is, but it was a delight to see and drive it in person. I’m sure another producer will be more inclined to pick this for their movie if they had a higher budget…”

Final verdict: Really unique and fun design but it could’ve used more details. engineering was also not the best. Overall it was a really good submission but the rest were better.
Guest notes: “it’s a stealthy, very practical sort of villain look. engineering mixed; drives well but unreliable. not much detailing in the build”

That bed in the back is just about the right size for storing a body. See, that’s the forward thinking!

6. @mrqwer4 with P.C. Tuning GMBH - 1965 muscle

After a bad food poisoning, the producer this time with his lead stunt man goes to scout the next option in the line up. The car advertised as an old muscle car with a good bit of tuning done to it.

“Ah, you must be the lovely man behind the phone! Thanks for agreeing to meet us here”
The Garage rep said to the duo

“Yes, yes… excuse me just recovering from a bad sandwich, would you mind showing my friend here the car…”
Producer points to the stuntman

“Ah, yes, yes… please follow me sir!”
He says opening the barn door

“It’s an old brute, the Denver-Aurora GT, but well taken care of! We up bore the original engine to 7L!, used forged internals and all the fancy talk! Much more powerful from the original spec… but that’s not all we’ve done, We installed a modern auto manual 5 speed and a good modern diff, rims and brakes were also installed to improve the performance… What i’m trying to say is, the car is much safer than it’s original spec.”
The rep says circling the car as he explains each upgrade

“It’s, really tame in design… was that intentional?”

“Well we’ve been mainly focusing on the stunt side of the actions, meaning it’s perfect to take a beating and keep going, design remained secondary… if you wish to make changes of your own, it’s up to you…”

“Yes, yes, I understand, trust me i appreciate what you guys done with it… mind if I get in?”

“No, not at all”

The stuntman gets in the driver seat (missing interior and low comfort)
“Ooooff, that’s some… seat?”

“Yeah, raw and tough, just like how it looks!”

“Yeah, but too much for an actor… hell too much for me if i have to take some jumps in this thing…”

“Noted… but go on, turn the engine on”

The engine grumbles as it comes to life, no sign of any trouble

“She sounds reliable! Seems pretty good for such an old V8…”

“Yep, custom carbs, tuned for modern 95… all the goodies…”

“Oh god… this steering…”

“Much better than original, right?”

“If this is better, can’t imagine what the original must’ve been like… this is heavier than the bus i had to drive for that small movie…”

“Wait you were in spe…”

“Anyways, I’m gonna be honest, i do like what you got, i don’t think we’re the right people for it… I do appreciate your hospitality…”

“Fair enough, good luck with your hunt then!”

Final Verdict: Good design and generally not bad engineering, just underdone by design and loses the interior bonuses it could’ve had. Overall a really good submission.
Guest notes: styling has good proportions and ideas, but is quite underdone. the wheels and rear are especially disappointing. engineering is not bad
