Better Way to Manage Platforms

Recently I have been doing full car designs from beginning to end and I have run across some issues.

  1. You can’t modify the body for different trims: Usually you have the general body for all the trims but the more expensive trims will have a wing, or a hood scoop, maybe a few extra vents. Currently you’re stuck, which is a bit annoying when you are trying to make the base model and then the sport trim.
  2. No information on what the body parts do: I don’t know if the wing is actually doing anything, I don’t know how much it costs or how much it will add to production either. Knowing the changes that I make to the body would help me know whether or not to conserve on my addons.
  3. Saves Fail: There’s no button to add a new version of an engine or trim. Sometimes I will double click on the basic model, not one of the trims, and I will be editing the first trim in the list. This then overrides my design and changes the name. Having to open one of the existing trims, and then select new variant is a little counter productive. I would suggest adding another button onto the bottom for new variant, or adding a button next to the base model/engine where there is no information for new variant.
  4. Better information on what the stats mean: I know this has been mentioned a lot, but I feel like it would really help people get a better idea of whether or not they made a bucket of bolts for the general consumer or a specific class car. Maybe making the stats be a percent consumer appeal. Meaning a score of 50 in sportiness means that 50% of sporty car consumers would consider it, along with a score of 20 in safety means that 20% of people who look for safety would consider it. This also would give people a general idea of sales without the tycoon portion. That information tells me that out of the 50% of people who want something sporty only 20% of them would consider purchasing it if they also care about safety.

Hope this helps!

Edit: I forgot to add under Saves issue about sometimes wanting to try and improve your engine without tweaking the original, currently this is impossible. While I can go back and slowly reconfigure the engine back to it’s original state, it wont be the exact same unless I made sure to write down all the stats. Adding a way to copy an engine and modify it from there would be great so we can save what we worked on and what we know works and then play around with it from there.

For this i can suggest you to try the “HOLD” and “REVERT” buttons in the engine designer.
HOLD will quicksave the current engine setup, and REVERT will recall it.

They plan to add this soon, as well as the ability to switch between the different bodies from within the same body family (like between the 2 and 4 door variants of the escort like bodies.)

Lips and wings create downforce, most vents grilles and bonnets help for cooling.

They make no difference to price of production units AFAIK since people would end up gaming the system by making cars with just grilles for the cooling.

Lips and Wings will add engineering costs when those are implemented.

  1. Hmm, you haven’t seen the “clone” button in the trim and variant drop-downs? That does exactly what you say you want, doesn’t it?
  2. Yes, fully agree and yes, that will come with the very first tycoon bit of the game which we will start work soon (watch latest Little Dev Update).

AH! I feel like an idiot! That is great to know. I always thought those buttons were just to Hold that stats that you currently have, and Revert the adjustment scores next to the stats.

I am going to look for that button tonight. I have not noticed that in the drop down, only seen the new variant and trash. Good to know you already planned that though, and I am sure it’s just my idiocy not noticing.

Glad to hear you guys will be working on that soon, I think that’s the only thing that I have really wanted for a while is a better way to analyze those stats.
