Yea, I need the .lua files. Just PM me the same thing you sent Der Bayer.
Nice that you want to do it before we do, because unfourtanely i am on a business trip from 11.6 to 28.6, with a crappy business laptop and hotel wifi. While i can hop on and probably do normal skyping and texting, streaming is impossibru, therefore the main-races will start around the end of this month
Just finished making a video about a sub-1h BRC 1955 build (getting sub 2:41). To all the people out there that were not getting anything competitive this season, that should help for the next one, as many of the concepts shown here should be reusable in later BRC installments uploading the 50min video over night.
Is it a sprite? Try it with something else, if it is. It would make things more interesting! Seeing 30 sprites is just…yawn…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…huh, oh yeah, boring.
Tuning and other considerations are independent of what body you choose, I chose the sprite for the video because it is the optimal body for the challenge and I explain why too. Very seldom I show modder cars too, and showing one of them might drive more people to trying out mods, strengthening the community in the process.
[quote=“Killrob”]The video is now up

Wow. That body is so much more capable than the 40’s body. Getting sub 41’s in the old body seems like quite the achievement now. Is anyone up for the challenge of the fastest 40’s body in BRC1955? If only I had known about the fuel economy thing, I wouldn’t be seeing 7,99l/100km in the game and the absolute worst of all cars, 13,0l/100km in the simulator. Does anyone know how to optimise fuel economy without direct access to BROBOT testing?
How to optimize economy in BROBOT: look at what revs your engine is in for the most part of the track, then optimize economy for that part of the rev range (i.e. ignore the “Economy” rating the engine gets, that’s misleading).
Also: lower weight = less power = less fuel consumption.
About the aerodynamics.
The sprite’s Cd is in fact worse than the coupe’s, with .367 vs .318.
The main reason why it’s so good is the very small cross section, like you mentioned in your video.
And a lot of the other small cars of that period have a very horrible Cd.
Also, seems like I have to add a default width for the tires

And that is the reason why Cd is a pretty useless number, CdA is the one to use. But most car makers don’t want to publish that, because you cannot “lie” with it.
Cd .367 sounds so much worse than .318, but when you add the front area (A), the Coupe will have the higher number.
I personally use this site to set the Cds on my stuff, although I understand it is not perfect.

Although IMHO at some point it will probably be required to go through all the Cd values in the game to balance them a bit more.
There are some much worse examples of cars with very low drag compared to other similar cars.
Thing is, you need to take/find the actual Cd value and then subtract the cooling area required by that car’s engine power from the effective area, then reconvert that into Cd. In the spreadsheet we have for the cars that is all done for you if you find the proper values for the car. Did you use that one?
Interesting stream!
And like I said at the end: I never even considered an automatic locker diff, and wow does that cost me time.
Those diffs make a huge diff
By the way, for the people who watched. How was the quality of the stream?
I have had some problems with my ISP and have not streamed much on twitch as a result.
Well…there was apparently a lot of chat lag, and it was hard to keep up with your mouse!
Yea, there is a 10 to 30 second delay in twitch streams which makes it hard. Its only made worse if you are a streamer who does not have many viewers. There is nothing I can do about that twitch does that themselves (apparently the delay saves them a lot of money). The lag is also in the livestreams of the races but the format for that is such that its not really apparent.
Will have to watch both videos (Killrob and GenJeFT) when I get home tomorrow. That 5 hour jet lag has me on German time still… so tired… can’t watch such long videos
I just watched Killrobs video (I did not watch it before I did mine).
Using two very different engines we got to within .6 seconds of each other.
Many roads lead to Rome? Off topic but an observation I’ve made in the BRC: The core game mechanics seem very balanced considering how many different approaches can lead to success. This does bode well for both single- and multiplayer future and is awesome to see after we’ve poured in some 3+ years of work into this!
Cheers!
