Because it is more realistic for the era?

Is someone planing to do a review of the entries before the first race?
If so, i give permission to do so.
Here is a “short” video I did on how to quickly throw together a basic car for the contest.

I would love to do that again.

Dude… that “Video car” … You could be hired to make the car that actually is able to brake the lens of every camera taking a picture.
Interesting video.

I break the mirrors, the car breaks the cameras. It all works out.
The car I submitted looks better.

This. My entry will be is modified production car, not a scratch built race car. Will it hurt my chances? Yes, but it will be unique.
Okay, clearly I haven’t looked at my car times in a few days and am forgetting something. Just ignore what I said about FR cars not being able to do 0-100 in 5s, that was rubbish!
My car is available for review also. And I can fix your “race car” that can’t race.
I’m going to have to decide what car I’m driving before I offer it up for review - I am really eager for the first testing tomorrow!
My car is also (happily) available for review.
Yep, would be happy to show my car for a review aswell!
Nice video BTW Gen.
If you want your car reviewed just send me the same stuff you sent Der Bayer. I will not start until AFTER the races start for obvious reasons. You should also wait till you submit your final car and are sure there are no further modifications.
almost… finished…
also, thx genjeft for the video. i rebuild another car and are now managing 2:22 around the track while getting 18.9 Mpg.
but im still not finished with it.
also, i would never have guessed that power steering actually would improve my times… improving high speed cornering times in particular, at the cost of reliability though

open automation and deleting all engines

Quick news: The first pre-season test race weekend will likely be done on Wednesday evening (Europe).
Is it this today or next week?
I managed to get under just 2.23 but at the cost of tyre wear (chambeeeeer) of course. I am wondering if good economy will still pay off if I can not make whole race with one tank or should I just stop bothering.
Reminder: City driving fuel economy is meaningless. Engine fuel efficiency at power and total fuel tank size is what matters. The car I submitted has a nominal fuel economy of 12.9 mpg, but I’m still only going to need one pit stop for fuel in a 90 minute race.
Preview-Edit: @AirJordan: My working assumption is that each pit stop will cost you 20-50 seconds. Over a hypothetical 90-minute race at ATT, that would be about a second a lap. I don’t think you can make that formula pay dividends, but I posted my guide to fuel consumption estimation (linked above - it’s on page 11) so people could calculate that tradeoff themselves.
Thanks for the reminder oooohhh there is soo much to tweak and tune in this challenge

what is “r” value mean in your formula? and how you determine it?
for now what i see most track are pretty much fuel mid to high fuel consumption
im just bad when it comes to math
The first pre-season test weekend is now being processed. Watch out for more news in a few hours.
r varies by track. I designed my cars assuming r=0.75, because that’s about the high end of the range for the most fuel-heavy tracks, but for the Automation Test Track it’s usually between 0.44 and 0.61. So when you see how much fuel your car actually uses at ATT, plan for fuel consumption up to 25% more than that depending on the track.
Pre-Edit: Woo!
