BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [Final Race Results]

Great job!!!

Caswal’s Carousel killed me! I went from 16th to 38th before the corner exit…

Still recovered back to 33rd, and 23rd in the first race, so not terrible. I certainly do wish we could make changes between races, however. hahaha My car can’t overtake for squat.

:open_mouth:

Ohh, this looks like fun also. When might you be doing the next part of this event?

I think the submission phase for the next round will start when race 3 of this round is done. So 2-3 weeks from now!

Race 2 Training Sessions

All participants have travelled to Brands Hatch for the second race. Here is the footage of the training sessions:

Youtube video

Managed to sneak up a few extra places from the 25th place finish, but the overall weak offensive ability of my car will probably cost it places in the real race!

FIRST PLACE!!! I would like to thank all of those who lost
.99 front grip and 1.0 rear grip. Even had a .8s ERROR in there… Well… that was unexpected!

…huh. Score one for the Automation test track designers - I’ve never sent my car to Brands Hatch before, but my car looks like it could qualify 25th based on the training, so my setup must not be that bad here. I’m going to have the heaviest fuel load of anyone who makes the grid, but I think I’ll make the grid. And what with my straight-line speed, I might be able to place above my qualifying position in the actual race, given traffic.

With such a short course, though, [edit: there will be a [i]lot of dealing with traffic and] crashes are going to be huge. Here’s hoping my car is sturdy enough to finish!

If I was paying attention properly, my PB lap included two minor errors.

I wonder if my driver is Absurdists’s drivers lazy twin?

Well, my car is consistent, doesnt place last and doesnt place higher than the 20s LOL. Also noticed that I never hit 3rd gear on this track, poor little engine must be ready to scatter its guts.

Congrats Bob. Though nowhere near your time (as most people), but still happy with my magic number 7 ending as 7th on the grid. I often wonder, how did you manage to get such high cornering speeds with these cars? I optimized all I could for the suspension with my car and retain good tire condition, and indeed I have some of the best settings concerning tire management. Last race my tires lasted best out of the entire field I think. But, for me the races are too short for it to make a huge effect, sadly. How did you pull off such high Gs with these 40s cars?

So, with the training sessions, I would place 35th? I sure hope they take 38 cars again so I can qualify for round 2!!

I wonder why the first group was so much faster than the second group, as a whole I mean? I get they were the top finishers from round 1, but it looks like they were all consistently faster around this track, by a few seconds!

Its a really delicate balancing act between camber and suspension settings. Honestly, I would have multiple saves of my car with slightly tweaked settings and would systematically check almost every possible combination of camber to suspension setting and I would randomly stumble across “veins” of settings that would suddenly drop a second or so off my time. Then I would try and fine tune that “vein” as best I could and then start over on a different camber setting. Took a solid 3 days to hit the sweet spot, but I didn’t have a lot going on those three days thankfully. Also, the camber/suspension tuning took up about 75% of my entire design time :
That definitely hurt my engine design time… but meh.

Damn, while your technique works, it might be a bit overkill :p.

I just do the race preset, then I adjust camber with trial and error, finding the fastest-setup, and finally I adjust the rest with the same technique.

Brands Hatch is very short and technical. While I qualified 8th for Automation track, my 11th in warm-up is indicative that I’ll be slipping in the rankings. I tuned my entry (somewhat) for Green Hell, which is going to make my particular entry suffer this time around.

Not sure how indicative this will be overall, since this is just training, but here’s a few movement figures when comparing Race 1 Qualifying to the training session that just happened.

Killdrop dropped 6 spots. TheBobWiley jumped 5 upward. I went down 3. Tycondero went up 4. Mer_at up 3. Mattmr2 up 4.

But again, big difference between training and qualifying.

When I’m pressed for time (most of the time right now), this too is the approach I use, colloquially speaking it yields 95% of the result for 5% of the effort. Though sometimes strange outliers still do pop up. As for camber, lap times generally seem best when the balance is pushed as close to neutral as possible as long as possible without flicking into terminal oversteer, though this does also reduce drivability relative to sportiness.

I was lucky and basically had a week free right when this whole thing was getting started, which incidently was the same time I found about this game on steam and got it. Definitely won’t have that kind of time for the next race, whenever it happens, but I learned a lot in that week playing around with the game. I will hopefully be better and faster at tuning for the next race.

Congrats Bob, if the first races are anything to go by I’ll likely lose places on the start so I suspect you might one up me. Really looking forward to this. Looks like there’s a few guys going to make this race that didn’t get in last time. I kinda want Nialloftara to get in because I like his car, but it looks like it’ll be a bit of a long shot.

Holy crap KillRob lost a lot of places. I’m scared for GreenHell, his car will be mega I think.

I think you’ll have a chance for points in this one Strop.

I’m not so sure about that! I really wouldn’t mind if I didn’t score any points here at any rate, certainly my car was not at all put together with any expectation of being competitive, it was just trying to make for something “average” but also very light. So far, things are going about as expected.
