Campaign mode: Problems of time column of the UI

Looking at the dev update, i found that the time column in campaign mode is very confusing.

It is suggesting that “<” is the button to slow the time down while “>” is speeding up. However, from the user experiences perspective, it is confusing since the “<” icon is usually recognize as going backward, while “>” is going forward. The layout of the time column which the date is in the middle of “<” button and “>” button also strengthen the confusion that “<” button means “the time is going backward”, while ">"means “the time is going forward”.

  • the time ui in campaign mode shown in the dev update

I would suggest that the time column layout should be change to something we have seen in the video player, which is something that looks like this:

all the button should be on the right side of the date, meaning that the time will only flow forward, and use the button which we always seen in the media player, like:
" || " will be the “stop/pause” button
" | > " will be the “slow the time down” button
" >> " will be the “fast forward” button

that should make the time column less confusing

Since the devs were testing only mechanics I think they choose to re-use assets instead of spending time making a new UI (for example the score and the the costs are presented raw… which will be reworked in the unreal engine anyways) so that must likely will be reworked.

I would also suggest an indicator for the speed of which the time passes.

It is as @Sillyworld points out, that “UI” was shat out as quickly as possible and is no representation of what it ultimately will look like. It is/was for functionality only. :slight_smile: What style and functionality we’ll use in the end is not decided yet, but that’s such a minor issue that we don’t have much time to think about that now.

Cheers!
