Camshafts

How about the ability to adjust lift, duration, and overlap for the camshaft.

Epic comment is epic.

Pyrlix Edit: … :open_mouth:

  1. A key technical part of real life car/engine design, a major focus of real life engineers, not a small engineering chore.
A simple slider 1 - 100 for such an important part of the engine is kinda simplistic in my mind, camshaft profile is one of the most important parts of building an engine.

    1. An interesting design compromise. There have to be advantages and disadvantages to every choice in said gameplay mechanic.
Economy, power, smoothness, emissions, throttle response, all things that are effected by the camshaft…again 1 - 100 is not enough.

    2. A worthwhile trade-off considering both development effort and gameplay value.
There are entire software suites that are only for designing camshafts and using camshafts in different engines…hell I used to play the burnout drag racing game in 2001 and I could adjust all components of the camshaft profile.

I wish it was as simple as saying I want camshaft 50 for my engine in real life. If its too hard then don’t do it but I think there is lots to be gained…especially since forced induction engines prefer different cam profiles than NA engines.

Now that sounds more reasonable than your first post, to be honest

You have to remember that the engine builder is one small part of the whole game. Compromises and simplifications need to be made in detail for both “fun” reasons and also so that this thing can be made within a reasonable time!

Yes, all you put up is accurate… it has been discussed so many times before though - and that’s the main reason you deserved the … :open_mouth: , not that much for the content.

So now I’d like you to read the first page of this thread viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1745&p=15146&hilit=overlap#p15146 and come back and say it still would be a good thing everything considered.
