Cheap hooligan engines

I got bored, and as I liked the idea of the muscle cars of the early 2000’s (ie. the Mustang and Camaro) I decided to try my hand at them. Loosely based on my existing Vulcan lineup here’s a 304(5.0) 327(5.4) and 350(5.7) designed for good reliability, economy, and cost. The goal of these type of engine is good dirty fun, lots of torque for tire smoking starts, bypass valves to annoy the neighbors, low(ish) service costs so you can work on them in your driveway, at least okay fuel economy so it can be your daily driver, regular gas so it doesn’t break the bank to fill-up after a long days shenanigans/hooliganry, and keep the cost and hours low so the common gearhead can buy one off the showroom. you’ve seen mine now let’s see your.

What about the engine sizes of 304ci, 327ci, and 350ci that make them so popular?

America in the 60’s  302 and 305 are far more popular but I settled on 304 for no real reason.

304 was an AMC engine :stuck_out_tongue: It did exist.

Interesting thread as always, I cant wait to see what other people post.

I thought i’d contribute with some Japanese Muscle, Inspired by the Toyota Supra’s 2JZ-GTE 3.0 Straight 6. This one is powered by a 61mm Turbo running 18 psi instead of the stock twins, Response and economy is a little down but the meaty power curve and brutal spool more than makes up.

You know I could’ve sworn the 2JZ was a V6.

Straight 6 all the way, baby. There is no good reason a v6 should ever be used for performance applications becuase a V8 will always be more effective, this includes the current GT-R engine.

Well you can tell that to the xj220, lancia stratos and the Ferraris it’s engine also powered, all of Alfa Romano and lotus, and Nissan’s entire sports car division.

I don’t see the point? All above mentioned cars are junk. Same deal with rotaries, they may have unique applications and qualities but a straight 4/6 or V8 is always going to be better suited.

“Man I wish my car had a v6” “a v6 would make this car win” -No one ever

V6 engines are shorter than I6 and v8, which makes them more advantageous when it comes to the weight distribution of a car.
Also the stratos junk? It did get several rallyes victories in its class.

Erm. Renault Clio owners would like to have a word with you. As would Golf owners, and Corrado owners, non-ecoboost ford owners, and several others.

All the most highly regarded performance vehicles i rest my case :unamused:

XJ220, Veyron (edit: I’m an idiot :stuck_out_tongue:), Bentley Continental, GTR…

The Veyron is a W16 made by bolting two Audi V8’s together, definitely not a V6 in any way. And I’m fairly sure the Bentley Continental either comes with a V8 or a W12. Depending on the model.

However, the actual V6 cars mentioned are certainly not junk. In fact the XJ220 was faster with the Turbo V6 it got than with the V12 they were originally going to put in it! Also gotta remember rally cars, Metro 6R4 had a naturally aspirated 3.0 V6 producing well over 400 horsepower, and could do 0-60 in near F1 times, making it one of the most competitive N/A cars in Group B. The 1.5 V6’s from 80’s F1 were FAR more powerful than even the 3.0 - 3.5 liter V12’s of the 90’s, measuring in at 1200+ horsepower. Again, certainly not junk.

And Rotaries were so good that the FIA banned them immediately after Mazda got the first- and only Japanese win for the 24Hrs of Le Mans. (Noticing a theme with the FIA, they banned large displacement engines because Ford won with them in the 60’s, and then banned Rotaries when Mazda won with them in the early 90’s.)

In short, Junny, don’t insult engine layouts and the people who enjoy them all because you don’t like 'em. Some of the most dominant cars in history used very unorthodox methods to achieve that dominance.

I think a lot of people are just turned off by the obscure engine noise produced by a V6

You get a much more beautiful sound by merely adding 2 more cylinders

This thread needs more cheap hooligan engines and less of the only 3 cars in the entire world with a decent v6

Sheap=Sheep hooligans?

Definitely add that one to the suggestions thread imo :open_mouth:

just want to say that everyone bashing the v6, most of the logic used was “that engine is useless because it has less cylinders”
by that logic why have anything but a v16 in the game.

you need to remember that in this game the engine bay is going to set limits on how big your engine will be. some cars dont have a long bay so a V6 could be better than a v8 because the block is smaller. you also have to think an inline 6 is the smae leangth as a v12 just not as wide.

if i remember right they plan on adding inline 3&5’s and V6-16’s
