1993 Norðwagen Skaði S-6. As normal-looking as I’ve ever made a car, Sarah might like it. Resonably fast and with excellent handling.

Krimis fangen & einsperren
- zeit 1996

The first 3, “civilian” cars offer mid 7s 0-100, decent equiment levels at 22.900-25.300 Autodeutchmarks. They all Swansons so boxers all the way.

For Batimus, a 425 with a small block boxer 6 with 170 hp. It’s a reasonable, balanced (with weight slider abuse…) sports sedan in a stealthy green. He could get a biglier engine like Walkovski or Schneider, but he doesn’t need that 'cause he’s a smart guy, he’ll figure it out.

For Walkovski, a big American-market friendly 537, somewhat older and more conservative model. Slightly detuned six at 227 hp, it offers low-end grunt and similar performance despite considerable heft. Neat party trick: full-time AWD with lockable center diff for shortcuts and farm roads.

For Maier, a 220 with the more or less (less QP spammed) same engine as the Super 2000 rally car. It’s the only four cylinder, and the only FWD of the quartet. At the same time, it’s actually a little quicker off the line, and very nimble in city streets and traffic.

For Schneider, a 437 turbo. It’s not quite as balls-to-the-wall as an actual ST, but the PT will match almost anything on the road for speed in 1996. The Cavalry needs some power to get to the action I assume, while not sacrificing comfort.

Playlist? I think that the explanation is that this song is simply from Hetvesia, somehow leaked out of autoverse, and hence has a place in some episode of this show. Meanwhile, Hetvesians are wondering why there is a song with an almost apocalyptic message about 99 red balloons circulating on the internet, that nobody is able to identify.

Moroza asked me for that since his cars don’t really fit the cops. As I think they do great in screenshots, I was OK with providing him cars for the Mafia they face in the one or other episode.

That’s not… mm. the competition is about the characters you’ve given us, not asking for something specific that you can design that gives you a “win” straight away.

I understand the concern. The villain cars are not part of any judging nor will they compete with the entries.

For Frank Batimus:

1996 Ilaris Impid 200 VSi. Straight six delivering 215 horsepower, expensive as heck but whatever. Very quick.

For Harald Walkowski:


1996 ACR Vea Fenis GX. Two liter four banger, turbocharged, delivering 200 horsepower. Top speed of 230 or thereabout. Quite quick for what it is. Tough.

For Bernd Schneider:


1996 Ilaris Imperial S2800 Leopard GT. 288 horsepower from a turbocharged straight six. Very very fast, almost ridiculously so. Should be able to catch anything anywhere.

Since I got the Cars before the ad, they are legal (I use so little rules that it’s Not likely that there will be a bin).

Stunt coordinator Johannes Hermann, actor Philipp Stein and mechanic Mike look at four cars that have been provided for Kriminaloberkommissar Frank Batimus. The purpose of today´s meeting is to have a look at the cars before deciding which to use.

JH: We are in a hurry. These were the cars I could get from various manufactors. Batimus needs a new ride NOW. Walkowski can use Sordels car, Maier uses whatever is available and Bernd Schneider can use the car of Dietrich Boehme which is still intact. Mike, you drove them and checked them in depth. What do we need to know about the technical stuff?"

Mike walked to the Zephorus first.

MM: Brilliant handling, and it is fast as hell. Damn, this machine is expensive, but it delivers excellently in terms of performance. I would even say that it is not overpriced considering what this thing offers. Even the comfort is bearable, although the lowest here. The upkeep is, however, a nightmare. It is the least reliable here, although all maneuvers left the car unharmed. It is not bad at all for a car like this.

PS: It is far from unsuspicious and a bit too much for what Frank really fits. However, the design is consistent and not overdone. The color combination is awful, but I guess Zephorus might deliver us another one, if we decide for that. I drove it as well and it is such a competent machine for the price tag!

“All right”, said JH, “this is worth the money, but what about more modest alternatives?”
Mike turned over to the Ilaris.

MM: Mediocre stats all around, it is sufficiently fast, about as reliable as the Zephorus, behaves well in all test maneuvers, and excels in comfort. Have a seat! It´s really nice for long filming journeys. It is not as large as it looks, but offers good interior space in that premium interior. Not too expensive. Definitely solid, but fails to really impress me.

PS: I second the great comfort. I have to sit in this a lot, and it pleases me. Frank Batimus deep character seems open towards avant-garde, and that describes best the styling. But for my taste, it screams a bit too loud “I AM DIFFERENT!”. A great car for an art director or architect, but for Batimus? Hmm.

JH: “Ok, which one is the next? Mike, can you give me some information about the other green one?”

MM: This is a Swanson, $ 1000 more expensive than the similar performing Ilaris, but a lot more fun to drive. The handling and feel does not match the Zephorus, but is surprisingly close. Maybe because of the boxer engine which is typical for this brand as well as the very raspy sound. It is not a wooden stool, but noticeably firmer than the Ilaris. Servicing and consumption are bearable. Only a four seater despite being a sedan, but for our purpose, that does not hurt. When doing the stunt maneuvers, the car seemed not to care much. It´s build quality is excellent.

PS: Hmm, I have a mixed opinion. It fits Batimus more than the Ilaris, but I think it is a bit bland, especially after I have seen other Swansons. Visually, it does not announce it´s class. Maybe the army-like matte green is at fault, the purple one I saw down the road looks a bit more interessing. Some detail designs are cleverly done, but overall, hmm, it is not that convincing. When I test drove it after Mike, I was convinced, though.

[OOC:] The Swanson also nailed the brief, even more than the Zephorus. It drives great for a sedan, delivering promising sportiness without sacrificing anything too much at a competetive price. It has the lowest safety, well, as this is not a criteria, you are lucky. The design however sets an unique note just as the Ilaris while better blending into traffic, but does not impress me, even if I can´t really put the finger on what´s wrong. Maybe it is just because I have seen much more detailed cars from you in other challenges?

JH: “All right, so the Swanson is still in the game. What about the red one?”

MM: A Saarland Origo. It looks solid, and it is. Being a small hint more reliable than the Swanson, even the toughest rockford turn left it unimpressed. Speed bumps do not bother it. It is not bad but neither really fun to drive, similar to the Illaris, but does not feel equally comfortable. The the spacious cabin is great for filming. The price is quite the middle between Swanson and IIlaris, and it performs good, it is definitely faster than it looks. The service cost is surprisingly high, but far below the Zephorus. It also seats five, although we don´t need that, but it is clearly the most modest car of the four without falling back too much. But yeah, it did not impress me when trying the one or other stunt drive. The Swanson is a lot better for that, being equally reliable.

PS: This car is actually my favourite. I mean, it is a Saarland, so it has that kind of bourgeois fug with it, but for a Saarland, it is even a bit fancy. It is totally unsuspicious, well shaped and it all works nicely together. You tend to underestimate it, but it´s not that I had to yawn when seeing it for the first time. If it only drove with more effort!

[OOC:] The most realistic of the quartet to be a real life undercover car. It excels in things that are not part of the judging, like environmental restistance and practicality. The design is fluent and fitting, and at the point where it would become too boring for Batimus, some nice detailing saved it. But in the engineering-related judging criteria, the Saarland is no match for the Swanson.

First impression:

So, the Ilaris by @shibusu is out, but I strongly prefer to give it the 4th rank instead of calling it last. It was a good car that stood quite well against the others.

The Saarland by @Knugcab is the most realistic car, but is not as sporty as we would like, and the overall drivability is the last of them all, but the reliability keeps it in the choice by now.

The Zephorus by @Riley is very expensive, and that was a “high” criteria. However, everything else is convincing, and it handles tame for the immense performance. Since an 850i was an inspiration I featured, it would be just unfair to throw it out here when only the cost is a serious concern. It is still in consideration.

The Swanson by @Ludvig is clearly the best compromise, but I consider the looks as … well, I still cant really say what I don´t like about it, but being the winner in the engineering part, it is still very likely that Batimus will drive a Swanson when the show is produced.
