CSCS 2: Notruf 110, Season 7 (2000)

Episode 07: Deadly Greed

Trigger warning: Death

Lars has been cited in Schneiders office.

It was totally irresponsible. I know, there has been a month since that unfortunate chase, and we have discussed it already, and Frank also got his share of words, BUT I want you to be the one preventing Frank from doing such unneccecary dangerous activities. He now has a family that waits for him.

Yes, boss, but I am not in the position to tell him how to do his job. Actually, since we were able to arrest all the cocaine dealers after Lieutenant Walker solved the case on the Gasmean side, he is a bit better now. Frank is a cop with all his heart. just as we all. Anyway… What about my new car? It has been a month since only Frank is doing the driving, and thats ineffective and annoying.

It´s in the backyard.

Both go out and Lars reacts in shock about the red… vehicle? … on his parking spot.

Urgh, what a bad day to be blessed with eyesight!

A BetterDeals HPD! I got it from the municipal gardening office. Of course, it has been fitted with new components to make it to highway speed.

Eh, I don´t want to be impolite, boss, but… are you serious?

Of course not. This is a WARNING! THIS VEHICLE WILL BE YOURS IF YOU TRASH YOUR NEW ONE. It is the yellow one on Franks spot. A Mara Asteri Sport. Cheap and durable. If you manage to break a Mara, then you are better off founding a teardown business, but not in my force. IS THAT UNDERSTOOD?

Meanwhile, Jenny sits frustrated at a bus stop, as she suddenly heard a familiar noise: Hammering techno beat and V8 growl.

Eh, what are you doing here? Shouldn´t you be on the way to the class excursion?

Yes, but my first bus was late and so I didn´t get the second one, and they only run once an hour. I am fucked.

Nah, you are not. Get in, time to change the patrol route, I will drive you to that farm, it´s even near the A10 so that I can pretend as if I am on duty.

THIS IS KRIMINALOBERRAT SCHNEIDER! All units, respond! A green Mara pickup, registrated Naubad-RG 62 has been trying to unload waste in the river, but escaped when spotted by us. Currently heading westbound on the A-10, last seen on kilometer mark 108. Frank, GPS says you are the closest. Can you stop the vehicle?

Sorry, boss, but no. I have my kid in the car.

This is against the rules but that doesn´t bother me now. All right, I understand this. Krüger? I see you are just 10 kilometers behind Frank, can you respond?

Sorry, I am totally busy, there is a street race in progress between a yellow Monarch and a red Cavaliere Nobile. I struggle to keep up with them, they are just too fast for my Mara. Oh! They just pushed a blue sedan out of the way, it spun and crashed. Ambulance to kilometer 96!

Holtmann, Kaportke! You are almost directly behind Lars! Can you provide him backup?

Udo here. Negative! A blue sports car is driving recklessly and just caused an accident by pushing a green Znopresk Zesk with an old lady in it that was going slow in the left lane. It seems a Torshalla crased into it. We are in pursuit and have problems keeping up ourself. Another ambulance to kilometer 92 please.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON OUT THERE? ALL RIGHT! I will drive onto the highway at kilometer 115 and stop the pickup myself.

Jenny grabs the radio device.

This is the… eeh… purple car. We can´t just let a fugitive go. We will stop him, I promise. Frank, go and get him!

Jenny, you are out of you mind… I just can´t… ah fuck it. Schneider, this is Batimus. I will follow the car and watch it until you arrive and take over.

Roger!

A furious Frank told Jenny that she is not allowed to interfere with the police radio and especially not putting herself in danger by forcing Frank to respond to a call, but then calms down as she was right about the fact that he just can´t let a fugitive go. The Fowler soon catched up, but even before Frank could mount the beacon light on the roof, they were identified as police and fire was opened.

JENNY! HEAD DOWN! NOW!

WHAT WAS THAT?

There went my passenger mirror! Fuck!

AAAAH! HELP! CAN´T YOU SHOOT BACK?

No! The barrels on the truck are reported to be explosive! I can´t just blow everything up here and kill the fugitive.

FRANK! Is your girl alright? I am now joining the party and giving him something else to shoot at!

Yes, captain, I AM FINE! THANKS FOR ASKING! Jenny is unharmed. What´s the plan?

I will give him a sudden brakecheck, so that he will drop the gun! You perform a pit maneuver then! But WATCH THE BARRELS!

But the pit maneuver wasn´t even neccecary, since Schneiders calculation did not work out: The suspect indeed lost grip of the gun, but by successfully catching it, he accitentally rammed another car and started a chain reaction, crashing multiple cars.

And, making it all worse, the two speeding sports cars just arrived at the scene, unable to brake as they were going too fast. Lars Mara, being slower, was able to just come to standstill in time, but it was very very close. While the yellow car was catapulted through the air, the Cavaliere spun and crashed with the rear into Franks driver side door, trapping him inside the Fowler, while the driver of the pickup opened fire at the fuel tank.

JENNY! Get in the back and then exit on the left side where he can´t aim!

No, I don´t want to leave you alone. We die together!

Don´t talk bullshit. DONT ARGUE AND JUST EXECUTE MY ORDERS!

SCHNEIDER HERE! Suspect down! I got him. We better… EH WHAT IS THAT? EVERYONE RRRUUUUUUNNNNN!

Now the blue IP Celestia GTT4 and Holtmann and Kaportke arrive at top speed, but brake as hard as they can. But while the patrol car managed to stop, the IP crashes uncontrollably into the Cavaliere, being lifted by its flat front, and landing in the truck with the barrels, causing a giant explosion.

Half an hour later, the fire was put out, Frank and Lars investigate the crime scene.

Captain Schneider, could you please get my daughter to the ER? I want her to be checked.

She said she wants to join her classmates and she is fine. Physically, I guess. I shouldn´t have accepted your entering, Frank. I will take care. I want your report until the end of day.

Frank grabbed a burned ID card.

Oh no, its Dr. Bess. Well, that day had to come. I guess.

You know him? I am sorry, Frank.

Ah yes, you are new to the job. Well, Dr. Günther Bess is a traffic law attorney having the most traffic trials himself because he is always late for appointments. He always speeds and it went well a 100 times, but there is that unfortunate day when you are due if you drive like that. CRAP! [compare to season 3]

Yes, how unfortunate. Do you want to go home?

Not at all. Schneider is taking care of Jenny and there is one thing that is suspicious. It looked like the car failed to both brake and steer. This is an IP that is not even two years old. How often have you heard of a new IP failing like that?

Actually, never?

Exactly. UWE! UDO! I WANT THIS CAR TOWED FOR INVESTIGATION. Justification is possible manipulation and murder.

The next day, Uwe and Udo explain Frank that the car has been stolen, together with the towtruck. A furious Frank is … not amused, but now finally has proof that something is definitely wrong with the lethal accident of Dr. Bess.

Frank and Lars decide to drive to Bess´office, investigating if there are enemies that would like to see him dead. But on the way they see a red Saberin driving reckless and way too fast.

BOAH! That can´t be true! Is the world full of maniacs? SLOW DOWN YOU IDIOT!

Frank, the brake lights are on! He is trying to! We need to help him. ALL UNITS! THIS IS UNIT 2! A RED SABERIN SOLSTI 2000 IS GOING FULL SPEED ON THE A2 TO BERLAU AND IS UNABLE TO BRAKE! ASSISTANCE REQUIRED! WE WILL TRY TO STOP HIM!

Meanwhile, the driver of a Hayaku Seiko is in a hurry, overtaking a green Globus Bravura, but then cutting it off in revenge for going slow. The lady in the Globus panics, locks up the brakes that have no ABS yet in that old model, and the collision is inevitable. The Hayaku slides into the way of a truck that just crashes it with full force, and the trailer swerves and blocks the whole road.

Frank, is that smoke?

Shit, you are right. AND THERE IS A TANKER TRAILER BLOCKING THE WAY! All right, we need to perform the stopping now.

At that speed?

Yes, at that speed. BRACE FOR IMPACT!

We won´t make it. Frank, let go!

No! We are here to serve and protect. I will speed up again, then park the car and use it as buffer stop. As soon as we are at standstill, RUN! I will face the driver side towards the Saberin so you´ll be safe.

FRANK! NO! JUST NO!

Frank did as announced, accellerated, made a sharp U-Turn and ran, but it was too late: Although they were outside of the car when the Saberin crashed into it, they were hit by their spinning Eroberung, thrown onto the following traffic that stopped in time. Both are injured and in need of an ambulance, but so is definitely the Saberin driver, too, who had to be cut out of the car by the fire brigade.

NO! Krüger, you will stay in hospital. You and Frank are off the case for recovery and I will handle it myself. Just because I am the boss it does not mean that I am unable to do police work, right? I sent Frank home, as he is also injured, and if I got the doctor right, you can leave tomorrow. AND I DONT WANT TO SEE YOU FOR A WHILE! WHAT DID I TELL YOU YESTERDAY MORNING? Please stop Frank from such action. You both saved the life of the Saberin driver, but at what cost?

No, Frank! You won´t go anywhere! I have hidden the keys for our Rigel. YOU WILL STAY IN BED! I am not disabled, I am not sick, I am just pregnant. And Jenny is a great help for me, so you can really rest now, finally. The little lovely cutie YOU DID NOT WANT is actually of bigger assistance than you workaholic!

Ah, not this again. I changed my mind and apologized, even signed the adoption papers and I treat her like my own kid, so stop that old discussion. And I WILL NOT SIT HERE AND WATCH HOW THEY KILL MORE PEOPLE WITH MANIPULATED CARS! I need to solve the case. Schneider is better off at his desk. DAMN, EVEN THE SECOND CAR WRECK WAS STOLEN! What do Holtmann and Kaportke for a living, by the way? Comedians? The department just doesnt work without me.

The next morning, Lukas Bauer, the Saberin driver, woke up from surgery. Although in a really bad physical state, he is said to make a full recovery. Holtmann and Kaportke note that the Saberin was repaired shortly before, just in the same workshop as the IP of Dr. Bess.

With a search warrant, Schneider enters the workshop, confiscating everything. The result were faked spare parts of lowest quality, sold as original parts. Workshop owner René Tetzlaff finally confesses that he first ordered them as original parts and paid a high price, but then found out about the bad quality when trying to mount the parts, but as the money would be lost if he didn´t he decided to use the parts anyway. Schneider arrests him, but gets all information about the vendor.

Later the day, Bernd Schneider, this time with a civillian spare car from the department, stops in front of the Batimus apartment, visiting Frank and wishing him to get well soon, then wishing to speak to Jenny in private. Frank and Sarah are irritated, but agree.

So, little girl, it wasn´t smart to force Frank into the pursuit and learned the hard way why. Nevertheless, you were exceptionally brave. And you have proven on which side of the law you are standing.

I am in trouble for that, right? Sorry… I just did not want that the gangster could escape.

Yes, and so you are NOT in trouble. Althogh I am still of the opinion that putting yourself in danger was wrong. But as I said, you proved that you are one of the good guy… eh, girls. And I used all my influence to get you this paper.

A… clean criminal record?

Yes, I felt like you deserved that after all you have been through and how much your behaivour improved. So, I have to go now. I have to perform an important arrest this evening, and I need to get a judge for that. Stay clean!

Frank was sitting like on nails. When Schneider was in the apartment, his portable Radio went on, telling that the fake spare parts are produced in an abandoned factory, Dieselstraße 15, but that the arrest warrant isn´t there as the judge in charge won´t be back until tomorrow.
He could not find the Rigel Keys, as Sarah hid them. But Frank then remembers about Sarahs gift, the old Primus GTS. With that, Frank rushed to the adress, getting the gangsters caught off duty.

When Frank sneaked into the building, he saw that three criminals are already packing their stuff. He has to react now, since until tomorrow, they would be gone. Just as he was about to pull his gun, Frank feels dizzy from his head injury, dropping his weapon, and the baddies are about to grab their guns. In a panic act, Frank grabs a barrel and rolls it, playing bowling with the gangsters with a “barrel roll” maneuver. All gangsters were hit and passed out, giving up and asking for an ambulance.

Meanwhile, Schneider did not get another judge and decides that it is now better to violate the formalities, writing himself a faked arrest warrant, and then speeding to the Dieselstraße.

Frank called an ambulance for the gangsters, but then notices four cans of fresh, cold TastiCola. But he only got three gangsters. When searching on the lot, he finally sees the fourth running towards his car, a Monarch. Frank rushes to the other car, an AMS Albite, and the keys are in the ignition, so he chases the Monarch through the abandoned factory buildings.

Suddenly Bernd Schneider appeared in the silver Primus, forcing the Monarch driver into an evasive maneuver, going up a ramp and flipping the car. Frank pulls the gangster out and handcuffs them, and an angry Bernd Schneider shakes his head when calling for backup.

So, if you really feel fit enough for arresting people, then I might have a LOT of unfinished paperwork for you! THEN GET THAT DONE IF YOU CANT UNDERSTAND THE WORD RECOVERY!

AAAAH! Captain! AAAAH! MY HEAD! IT HURTS, I FEEL SOOO DIZZY! AAAAARRRGH.

Oh Batimus, you deserve an oscar for that. RIGHT IN YOUR FACE!

Episode 08: Country Roads Take Me Home

Trigger warning: Yes, people die again, and there is a bit violence.

Frank´s 35th birthday present is a day with a rented sports car: A Nordwagen Loki in semi-race trim, something very rare and exclusive. When Frank stopped at a gas station for a coffee, he could not believe his eyes: The Nordwagen speeds off:

In panic, he calls Bernd Schneider from the public phone, who immediately sets up a pursuit.

THIS IS KRIMINALOBERRAT SCHNEIDER! I NEED THE FASTES CARS ON THE A2 TO RESPOND! Car is an orange Nordwagen sports car, registrated Karlstadt-KV 123, going south near Zassow!

Unit 6 to Schneider! We change direction immediately. To your service!

Schneider in his Swanson, the Inspectors Bolle and Trentsch in their Primus and Holtmann and Kaportke in an Eroberung, the fastest “normal” patrol car asides Schneiders special ordered Swanson, try to block the road by using the “folding fan” formation. But the thief does a pit maneuver on the Primus, causing a crash, passing Schneider, who tried to block, but was half a second too late.
The Primus is out, the Eroberung is damaged, but still going.

Schneider is still directly behind the Nordwagen and able to hold pace. For that reason, the thief cuts off a light green Cavaliere Nobile, forcing the driver to brake, but Uwe behind the wheel of the Eroberung was surprised and crashed into it, causing another crash, this time spinning a sedan directly in front of Schneider who miraculously escaped a horror crash unharmed. The thief is gone…

Schneider, in a bitter mood, realizes that his old tactics might have become outmoded, and is determined to perform better in the future, sparing him the embarrassment. The thief informs his boss that the car will be there by end of day, but that the police was behind him. Frank on the other hand is even more embarrassed, as highway cop you just don´t want to have your car stolen…

By using a keycard to open the central locks and unlocking the electronic immobilizer, it is not a surprise that also the integrated GPS of the rental company was jammed or deactivated. But Sarah lost her cellphone earlier that day in the car, and it seems the thieves have not seen it, as the tiny Knoia 8210 fell through an opening behind the glove compartment. It locates the car in Chechenöd, district Unkenhöfel - just 20 km away from the border to Archana and formerly Archanean-occupied: The middle of nowhere, far away in the Hetvesian-administrated part of Gasmea - a 16 hour drive, at least, if using a fast car.

Gentlemen, I got the signal. It is in that no-mans land, Unkenhöfel.

Never heard of, Captain. Is there actually a police force to ask for assistance?

I seriously doubt. Rosendorf-Tenelova is the only real town in that area and it is far, far away. If we want to get it back, I guess, we will have to go there ourselves. The Federal Police gave me green light, although I was ordered to be extremely cautious: This might be an area where our language is spoken and most of our laws are applicable. But it is still a Gasmean region. We are strangers there and on ourselves.

All right, Lars, we will start tomorrow.

Mr. Batimus, you won´t go there. You should care about staying with your pregnant wife and not travelling half the world. I hereby order you to take a week of vacation, otherwise I will suspend you with all linked consequences! Mr. Krüger, you can do that alone. If you need any assistance, call me. If I have no signal from you for more than 24 hours, I will immediately search, find and get you out. You won´t have a lot of cellphone signal, so prepare yourself with telephone cards for phoneboxes.

Three days later, Lars arrives in Chechenöd: This is not just almost Archana: This is Archana, actually. His first visit is the local police office, with … one obese old deputy unwilling to do his job.

In an apartment with our car thief, the phone rings.

Marko Zora, what´s up?

Marko! We have a cop here, from Berlau. He comes after the Nordwagen. Actually, you stole it from a cop off duty, so they finally take the workload of coming here, damn! He is currently at Blokowskys office. Make sure to lure him to the campsite, we will wait with a surprise there. They´re clever, that guy does not look like a cop and they even use a Mara to be disguised in this area, but well… a Berlau plate says it all. And that Mara is damn signal yellow. You can´t miss it!

Just as Lars left the police office, the Nordwagen drove in traffic directly in front of him. He reacted immediately, entering pursuit but causing a crash. Although he at first wants to stop and help, he then realizes the occupants are fine and goes after the Nordwagen again, that does not really seem to use full power, as Lars can keep up.

The Nordwagen runs a red light, causing a red sedan to brake, and another car crashes in it. The way seems blocked, but the red car was pushed foward just enough to let Lars squeeze his Mara through the gap.

The chase suddenly ends at a camping area, when the fugitive stopped hard and swerved right, while Lars had to go straight and stop on a footbridge. Just when he wanted to reverse, a small panel van appears out of the bushes and rams him off. The gangsters pull Lars out of the water and knock him out.

The next scene shows a black Primus speeding towards Chechenöds police station. It is Bernd Schneider, asking officer Blokowsky where Lars is, but the unmotivated deputy tells him that Lars was never there and might have get lost somewhere else. He then confronts Blokowsky that the last signal of the car´s GPS came from a lake, and the car was indeed at the office for twenty minutes, but gets the answer that Blokowsky was out on patrol and never met Lars.

Schneider does not trust the deputy and visits the local bar, introducing himself as the Sherriff of the adjacent district, and one person, a foreign electrician, remembers Lars speaking to the deputy, but is soon lured outside and was strangely seen not again… Schneider now knows that the village community will hold together and is of no help, but also that something is really wrong and that Lars is in danger. He calls Frank and asks him to send over Holtmann or Kaportke for assistance.

He then drives towards the lake and finds traces of pulling a human, and just where they end is sawdust. He then remembers the old sawmill he passed and gets in his car, but when merging the main road, a trailer blocks his sight. Schneider tries to carefully get on the road, but gets rammed by a pimped old decommissioned rural post delivery vehicle, a Nordwagen Baldur, ramming the Primus so hard that it was catapulted into the woods. Bernd Schneider escapes the group, as he had extensive military and survival training in his past, and decides to walk to the sawmill to look for Lars. His magazine was left in the Primus, and he has just one single bullet in his gun - not wanting to waste it and therefore deciding to hide in the forest.

The next scenes shows Frank speeding the Fowler, getting onto the highway and going maximum speed while the sun is slowly fading.

The next morning an exhausted Schneider spots a car dealer lot in the middle of nowhere, wanting to steal a vehicle to get to the sawmill.

NO! JUST NO! THE SIGN SAYS GREAT DEALS! AND NO DAMN SHIT BETTERDEALS! ARGH!

With the HPD as only option, Schneider takes it, driving until he spotted the sawmill from an upper mud track.

Hnguargh. at least it already is puke green so I can at least vomit on it. What a disgrace to have to use this…

A bit later, the car thief knocks at the locked door of the sawmill.

Eh, cop! Are you awake?

Yes. Come in if you want something!

My relatives will come and kill you as some elder officer is here, looking for you. Damn, I want the money, but not blood on my hands. I will cut you loose for escape. Theft is my business, but I am no damn murderer!

Just as Bernd Schneider enters the property, the thief´s relatives appear in a black Mara Kavaler, now hunting Schneider. On the uneven road, shooting is pointless, but the solid large sedan quickly rams the pathetic BetterDeals to dust. Schneider uses the small size of the HPD to drive zig-zag, making the Mara spin out as often as possible, as the HPD has absolutely no chance. When the HPD was about to give up, Schneider jumped off and let the BetterDeals crash into a pile of wood, making it explode.

Lars now got out and spotted the scene, trying to figure out how to help Schneider without a gun. He then spots the forklift and just as the Mara stopped, he approached it from the side and lifted it up, locked the accellerator on maximum and also jumped off, as the gangsters now shot their guns towards Lars. But it was of no use: Both the forklift and the Mara crash in a giant fireball.

As next, both Lars and Schneider “borrow” another car to get to the police station, arresting the deputy as it seems obvious that he is corrupt. Just as they arrived, Franks purple Fowler appears, and he tells Schneider that he better does some things himself than asking Holtmann and Kaportke. The deputy spots the scene and speeds off with his patrol car, starting a chase. In Unkenhöfel, he provokes an accident, causing Frank not being able to follow him. But Schneider remembers a photo of some kind of DIY-plane in the police office, and as the rural airfield is nearby, they drive there - seeing the plane-car already on the runway.

Who of you did military service?

I declined and volunteered in the hospital instead, captain.

Yes, Krüger, you already look like that. All right, Mr. Batimus, you will drive that tank, I will be the gunner. Krüger, take over the driver seat and try to stop him with the car, in case you don´t catch up, we will be there with the tank. Ooooh, a Tigercat, the most beautiful and capable tank I ever operated. Great!

Lars struggles with the overpowering and oversteering Fowler not getting grip and can´t stop deputy Blokowsky anymore. Schneider, not willing to let the corrupt policeman escape, shoots down the plane with a perfectly aimed shot, but precisely aimed at the engine to still keep the wings intact and allow for an emergency landing on the highway. Lars speeds further away with the Fowler, doing some offorad to test the durability of the suspension, and then spots the plane - it already caused an accident, but without fatalities.

After the arrest, Franks phone rings. He is annoyed by the disturbance but answers as he sees his home number is calling. It´s Jenny, totally scared and excited.

FRANK! Finally you have signal! Where are you? On Mars? THE BABY IS COMING EARLY NOW! HELP MEEEE!

Oh no! Captain, I…

Batimus! Don´t ask! You are actually on vacation expecting a baby any day and you come here instead of sending someone else. You are hereby suspended for two weeks! Of course without a record in your personal file. But I might write one IF YOU DONT GET IN THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME NOW!

The episode ends with Frank and Sarah laughing about an expensive speeding ticket.

Well, our next child has definitely my patience. It waited even long enough for you to come back.

And it has your motivation. It would have been sufficient to wait those 13 hours driving, but no, now after two weeks it is still not there and has no motivation. Damn, she is as lazy as you!

FRANK! I hope she won´t have your kindness, otherwise YOU can change her diapers then! I can´t stand two of your kind.

Excellent.
A Stapler forklift is indeed a dangerous tool…
2 weeks suspension coming to an end, baby 2 weeks due, looks like the finale will be even more intense

The last two episodes are almost fully produced and it will definitely be intense with a very intense finale.

I wonder If I fed the AI correctly to give the Fowler an accurate interior for the shots. Thats one of the few scenes where I really needed to type in a novel to get it right.

Would be interesting to see a “behind the scenes documentary” on the production, the AI in particular - but no rush.
Once you get over the uncanny valley effect they did work well for the most part. With the occasional unintended (?) comic relief, like Frank posing in the fruit stand post-landing…

I guess you have been watching Klaus too…

Episode 09: The Summit of Evil

Trigger warning: Hetvesias population will decrease a bit again, although there is nothing gore or mindfucking here as far as I would say. But here is not happy healthy vegan salad eaten.

Bernd Schneider is doing his annual visit in Frunia, where his Ex-wife and the two sons live. Now he will spend three weeks there with his former family, as Frank founding his family hurts him a lot, as Bernd Schneider absolutely hates loneliness.

On his way, he stops near Vinthal for a hotdog. He still wears his uniform, as he worked earlier that day in the office to hand over the most urgent stuff to Frank, but at least in his trunk we see some kind of civillian clothes, finally.

He approaches a local truck driver to ask for some sights to spot on his way through the mountains, but the driver, Reto Favre, runs away in fear and speeds off with his truck, almost causing a crash. Although Schneider uses his private car, the Hinode, he enters a chase and calls the local highway patrol to take over.

But Favre is desperately trying to shake the cops off, causing accidents, one IP patrol car gets involved, but is able to continue the chase.

The second patrol car then tries to pass the truck but gets squeezed into the guardrail, the occupants of the first patrol car then shoot the tanker trailer and blow it up, Schneiders Hinode is lifted up and lands harshly again on the road surface, while the second patrol car is thrown up in the air. Although the officers in it are severely injured, they survive, but not Favre.

Bernd Schneider wants to coordinate the investigation but is harshly reminded to mind his own business by Polizeihauptkommissar Braun, who is the supervisor for the district around Vinthal. Just in the Moment Schneider wants to start some kind of argument, his ex-wife calls, asking where he is.

The next day, Sarah is at the department to show the baby girl to everyone, and all are really excited to see her.
Just that moment, Schneider calls and asks for Frank.

Listen, Mr. Batimus, I dont like to order this myself considering you have a small baby at home, but I need you and Lars here! I noticed that this department has a high fluctuation and absurdly high income from traffic violations of truckers, as well as some officers bad records. They are all closed-minded and hostile. And Kriminaloberrat Schulte from internal affairs wants proof. This is where you come in: Two officers were seriously injured and they need a replacement. I will you transfer there. Maybe its three days, maybe five, but it should not take you longer to find enough proof to get the internal department to work.

So, when should we drive there then?

Just now. You will pack your stuff right after this call ends. You are already awaited. Please hand me over Sarah now.

Mrs. Batimus, I am sorry that I have to drag Frank away from his family, but it is very important. You know, dirty colleagues, I can´t let that slide. And as there is no inspector right now at the department… could you please care a bit about the paperwork?

Eh, Schneider, you know I gave birth three weeks ago? I can´t take my newborn to a police office, and I do not want to leave it all to Jenny, she is a teenie and has better things to do than caring for a baby.

I know. Please, Mrs. Batimus, you know me. I would not ask if I had another option.

Yeah, whatever, give me your passcode for the PC… damn. This is really an exception, Schneider!

The first day at the bill in Zeilwies was hard: They are absolutely not welcomened, and they are reduced to lowest police work: Doing radar traps. Going on patrol seems not desired, so Franks anger disappears a bit as Schneider had the right feeling that something is not in order.

Sarah provides Frank and Lars with the information that the officers Daniel Braun and Urs Gerber are the ones filing the most tickets, while colleague Moser was transferred to the bill only half a year ago, so he might be clean and has not as much to hide.

Frank puts a pill in the coffee of his partner Ruedi Häsli to get into the patrol car with him, while Häsli won´t leave the toilet. Batimus makes the daring move to blow his cover and offers a deal: Moser will keep his job despite disciplinary measures, but needs to confess everything. Moser yells at Frank to get out of the car and run back to Berlau as fast as possible before he regrets suspecting such a thing, but on their patrol route Lars blocks the way at the end of a dam bridge, and both Frank and Lars try to persuade Moser that he has the least to loose if he finally decides for the right way.

Moser reluctantly confesses that the officers are harrassing truck drivers, either they pay protection fees or will be stopped daily for invalid violations and get their licenses taken away and loaded with fine after fine.

The next day, Axel Moser is called by Braun and Gerber to assist in a gravel pit. This was a trap, as the both senior officers put pressure on Moser, it escalates and Moser tries to escape, but in a chase when Braun and Gerber block the way, Moser drives off a cliff and falls into death, which Braun and Gerber did not want to happen. They even try to get him out of the wreck, but Moser already drowned, as he was unconscious from the impact.

Frank and Lars are frustrated: Without Axel Moser, it is now impossible to stop Braun and Gerber and to know who else is involved. The victims are afraid and will not cooperate with Frank and Lars, even if they come in civillian clothes and pretend to be from the internal affairs. But after three days, in which the Berlau duo was observed by their Zeilwies colleagues, it was spotted what they were up to.

The next day, truck driver Dror Zawilsky escapes from Häsli and his partner, and over the radio Frank and Lars hear what is up and join, despite being told to just regulate traffic and set up radar control. Häsli soon collides with a parked car, and Frank is the only car to keep up. Lars confuses the others with fake locations, as they want to get Zawilsky as a testimony and no other officer should come too close to him.

At first the plan works, but as Lars has no clue how to navigate in the unknown city, and accidentally shares a route that is impossible due to construction work, and Braun and Gerber now know that they are definitely fooled by Frank and Lars.

Another unit tells Braun and Gerber that the fugitive is right behind them on the highway via a secret channel that Lars does not know about. Braun provokes a car crash in order to block the road.

More and more cars become involved, and Zawilskys old car can not stop in time any more.

Zawilsky is dead on impact, but at least the Monarch that exploded in the huge impact was already left by its occupants. Frank can not stop in time either and crashes into the guardrail.
They are unharmed, but the car is trash. Just in that moment Gerber knocks them out from behind.

Frank and Lars wake up in a cold and dark basement - the building is soon to be blown up to make room for a mountain resort, and the detonation crew would check for the building being empty in two days, enough to get away with the money and eliminate proof.
Frank sprints foward and tries to get Gerbers gun, both wrangle intensely and a gunshot gets loose, hitting Frank who skids to the ground.

Damn, Batimus. Why did you need to try to be a hero? Whatever, Krüger, I will cut loose your ties, so that you can help him. He does not breathe, damn! Nobody should have died! Moser was an accident! As was this!

Lars quickly reanimates Frank, who seems more or less out of danger but is still in need of urgent help with the gunshot. Meanwhile, Lars tells him that help will soon be there.

At this moment Sarahs mobile phone beeps. Franks special watch, built by computer nerd Lars, and Sarahs birthday gift for Frank, tells her that his vital functions are abnormal and provide a location. She panicks, begs her adopted daughter to care for the baby, calls Schneider who switches immediately to red alert mode and grabs the Mara of Lars, speeding as fast as possible to the location.

Just when she managed to get Frank and Lars free, Bernd Schneider arrives with a Frunian police helicopter, of course in his uniform, but also with a Frunian machine gun. Sarah remembers a car passing by whose occupants match the description of Braun and Gerber, a brand new white Monarch SUV:

Schneider, a former elite soldier, climbs onto the skids of the helicopter, securing himself with a rope and soon spots the speeding Monarch - they already saw the helicopter and knew that someone is behind them. Schneider opens fire on the tires.

The tires finally burst, and Gerber behind the wheel loses control of the large and heavy vehicle.

The car misses the corner and falls off a small cliff, crashing into a tree. It is not sure if both survived, Schneider tells the pilot to land, while the wind from the rotor blades causes the car to fall off the bending tree, and runs towards the wreck.

The episode ends with a relieved Sarah and an exhausted Frank, who says that he would now even voluntarily ask for vacation, which Schneider approves, thanking his team for the excellent work.

Episode 10: Game Over

Trigger warning: Some people won´t make it, sadly.

NO! DON´T!

BANG

Jenny, on a sleepover at a classmates house, wakes up from a nightmare. Frank has just been shot in this dream, and so she is still very scared when Sarah arrives early in the morning to pick her up, as she complained about terrible stomach ache.

Hey, my beautiful angel, what´s up? You seem so scared, what happened?

Frank has been shot… in my dream…

I know, but some weeks have passed, and he is fine.

Nah! It was now! In winter, there was snow everywhere. Please, tell Frank to quit, I don´t want to loose my parents to death again!

Ehh… I guess it is just that you are still not over Frank´s latest “adventure”. This is fine, take your time, but don´t panic too much. We are here for you.

When the dusk turned into the usual grey winter sky, a blue Mitsuhshita casually drives towards Berlau.

Suddenly a bullet is fired at the blue car, and the driver, directly hit in the head, faints and crashes into the guardrail.

The first car arriving at the scene is the red Rigel of Sarah. She passes the Mitsushita, tells Jenny to stay in the car and look for the baby and checks for the occupants - and sees a young man shot dead. After a first shock Sarah calls the local police force and distracts Jenny to avoid her exiting out of curiosity.

The officer from Teberau, the nearest town, arrives and does the usual police work, when suddenly Lars shows up, driving in the other direction.

Sarah! What are you doing here?

Picking up Jenny, she is not well. We were on the way back home, then I spotted the crashed car with the driver shot.

Argh. How unfortunate. The Teberau police is already on it, as I see.

Eh, Lars, this is far off the patrol route. Don´t tell me you are again visiting your girlfriend when you are supposed to patrol on the Highway. Schneider hasn´t checked GPS lately, but if he does, you will be in trouble.

I do not have much time with Mandy, and actually I am doing this only ONCE a week. Anyway, let´s at least ask who that is, so I have Schneider something to tell if he asks what I was doing here.

The Eroberung patrol cars have a hyper modern computer system, and the crashed car belongs to a man named Jan Westerhoff.

Colleagues Batimus and Krüger, well, let´s see then if this is the owner of the car, or someone else drove it. I will drive to that adress as soon as the ambulance is done with picking up the poor man.

Nah. That´s him, for sure.

Lars? HOW DO YOU KNOW?

I know it, ok? Nothing suspicious, I just loosely know him. Come on Sarah, let´s drive back to Berlau.

Lars! I see it in your face. Something is wrong. What is it?

Westerhoff is… well… was… Mandys main competitor. She is a professional gamer and one of Hetvesias best, and its about a lot of reputation and money.

And then Mandy moved into the same town as him? Really? You know what I think.

Sarah! Stop it! Jan once said that his secret is living in a lonely and cozy cabin in the mountains which helps focussing on the gaming. So Mandy just tried to copy this. Stop hating her!

Lars, I don´t hate her. But we are all cops and you should understand that this is suspicious.

The next day in the office, Lars is on this case - with Sarah on maternity leave, Frank still on recovery and Schneider teaching for a few weeks at police academy, he is in charge of the important descisions. Sarah is really astonished that Lars has been permitted the investigation, but it seems he has not told anyone that he has a relationship with one of Westerhoffs competitors. When Sarah made her official testimony at the office, she tells Lars that he is doing dangerous bullshit, leading to an argument, but Lars admits that he will also have to put his bond to Mandy Klein in question, but there is currently no clear evidence against her, and her not having an alibi is not a sufficient reason to make her the main suspect.

When Lars enters the office the next day, Frank is strictly talking to Mandy in the interrogation room, putting pressure on her and telling her she is definitely the main suspect at the moment, and it is only a question of time that he gets an arrest warrant against her.

After the interrogation, Lars furiously stepped towards Frank.

FRANK! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? You are supposed to recover for two more weeks!

I am fine, as you see. That gunshot was bad, but not THAT bad. It has been more than one month, I am as good as new. And as I see you abuse your job to cover a murderer! I am grateful that you saved my life in Vinthal BUT YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR!

Me? Abusing my job? WHO IS ABUSING HIS BADGE TO GO BERSERK BECAUSE HE IS 24/7 STINKY AND AGGRESSIVE? You treat everyone like shit and now you also want to let your mental illnesses out on Mandy AND I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS!

Oh Lars, you dont deserve that badge. I WILL TELL SCHNEIDER AND HE WILL KICK YOU OUT OF THE FORCE! And I can´t wait for that!

A fistfight starts and Sarah, who came with Frank because she forgot her purse the previous day, desperately tries to seperate the two fighting men.

ENOUGH! Frank! Even our teenie and the newborn act more sane than you. FOLLOW ME!

What is it, Frank? Yes, she has a motive and no alibi, but you were so determined to destroy her verbally, really, it just missed you spitting in her face. You can´t be jealous on Lars, because you have ME. What is wrong with you?

She just plays some stupid video games and makes more than my salary. You call this normal? But before you complain, NO, it is not that. That woman is weird. And I can read people better than Lars. She is a snake.

Oh, Frank, it is that. You are jealous. I also feel weird about her, but we don´t know her well enough to make such judgements. My female intuitiution won´t lie to me if I did, but I don´t. And now go apologize to Lars.

Forget that, I won´t.

In the night, an orange metallic IP Brigadier appears behind a Zephorus 305. The heavy and powerful offroad would usually not be fast enough to hunt down the two-door sports car, but the driver struggles with the black ice, while the 4x4 with spikes has no problem ramming the otherwise far superior 305. An intense chase takes place on that country road, and finally the IP sends the Zephorus down a small cliff, making the sports car crash into a tree. The IP arrives soon after, the driver which we do not see steps out and walks to the wreck.

The victim is Wigald Kleist, another professional gamer. His watch stopped at 01:25. As Mandy Klein owns a 1998 IP Brigadier in that rare color, Frank is determined to arrest her and speeds to her luxurious cabin in Teberau. But the car looks like brand new. Only the plate is slightly dented, but she shows a record of an accident with a wild pig at 01:51 - at a location making it impossible to push Kleist off the road and then being there half an hour later. Frank realizes that his hopes for an arrest warrant have now vanished, but he tells Mandy that he will figure out how she did it.

Frank checks all 41 IP Brigadier in “Warm Copper Pearl” in a 200-kilometer circle, but none of them is damaged in a way it fits to the damage. He then asks Sarah for help.

Let´s say… you pretend to become her friend? Let´s say you want to invite her to something as you want to apologize for your husband?

Frank, I do not need to pretend this. I really should do this. But I guess you want me to spy on her instead?

Exactly!

Frank, I dont want to be used for your phantasies. I do this ONCE. ONCE. And what should I invite her to?

Looking at her, she might like fast food? How about that?

Frank! You are a mean person. Make a therapy! Do you have an idea how much Jenny cries over your comments about her figure? Propably not. But your ambition for your job eats up your character. A few days back on duty and you change for the worse again.

You are right. Well… Lars and me have not talked since. I thought I don´t need a partner, but it is really making me feel … not alright. Well, if Mandy is really unsuspicious in your eyes, I will let loose. But please do me that favour first. You know me, I am almost never wrong.

Will we get our doggo? I visited the animal shelter with Jenny and we cried our eyes out… so many poor souls…

You mix up apples with pears… but… I guess it won´t harm me and makes you lucky… but a male one please. I am fed up being the only man in the house. But now please call Mandy first.

The next day, Mandy picks up Sarah for a lunch at a local King Ronald´s. As Mandy prefers an Ortskontrollfahrt (driving around to check what´s up in town), they order it at the drive-thru.

I really apologize for Frank. He is very serious in everything he does, he is a cop with all his devotion, and that sadly includes pushing things too far at times.

How can such a cool girl like you love such a creep? Really? But hey, I understand. You should see me when I am gaming. I can be a real mean person as well.

Sure, but I guess, you would never kill someone just because of that, and I hope Frank understands.

Oh, hahaha, well, you don´t know me. I would already kill for those delicious burgers, but just spoken, not that I really would, you get it? And… OH! NAH! WHAT A MESS!

Mandy dropped her drink, and both women bend down to save what could be saved, and in just that moment a bullet penetrates the windscreen.

SARAH! ATTENTION!

AAAAAAAAAH! HELP!

DAMN! Do you believe me now? I AM NOT THE KILLER!

In the evening, both Frank and Sarah discussed the happenings.

Frank, I talked with her over an hour, and you are right. She is a snake. My heart feeling says it´s her. I mean, anyone can hire someone shooting at anybody. And it is very suspicious that she just spilled the drink in that moment.

Exactly my thoughts. And damn, you can even turn back a watch after a crash. Sadly the coroner can only determine the death at 5 AM, because Kleist was still alive after the crash and died later in the wreck. But this alone won´t get me the arrest. What else was weird?

When braking, she often made quite firm stops, as if she mistakes the brake for the clutch…

SARAH! I LOVE YOU! YOU ARE GENIUS! THIS IS IT?

What?

IP Brigadiers are both sold with manual and automatic. And you were driven in an automatic? What if she replaced the car with another? I checked the plates, papers and VIN. And then all other registrated copper IPs. But what if the other one isn´t registrated? Because she bought it a few days before, and it was already erased from our system, because the previous owner unregistrated it? Or maybe it is from a car rental? I will check all car rentals, and you can phone the vehicle registration office for all unregistered copper IP Brigadier 4.8 models that have not yet been put into traffic again!

The next day, all car rentals were negative, and no unregistrated IP Brigadier 4.8 in this color was not yet re-registrated again. But Frank then told Sarah to check for the dealers, and Sarah found out that an IP dealer in Feinbrunn sold a brand new IP Brigadier 4.8 in copper mica with automatic transmission to a woman whose description matches Mandy Klein, and that she insisted on having it delivered by trailer.

Just in that moment, Lars enters the office. Sarah tries to persuade him that he should trust Frank and arrest Mandy together with him, but Lars pushes Sarah away, telling her that she betrayed him, too, and has been brainwashed by Franks dominant behaivour. She throws her protocols at Lars, telling him he should just read himself what´s the facts, as Bernd Schneider enters the office, furiously asking what is going on here in this dollhouse when he is not present.

Later, Frank reaches the cabin near Teberau, confronting Mandy with the results of the investigations. Mandy realizes that she has been caught, and tells Frank she just wants to close the window shutters and the doors, as she wouldn´t come back in the next time. Frank acknowlediges, following her with a hand on his gun.

Just as Mandy locked the door, a screaming engine and screeching tires distract Frank - it is Lars, speeding to the cabin to most likely help Frank with the arrest. Mandy uses the distraction and pulls a gun.

Oh… shit

I´ll do your wife and kids a favor, Frank! HAHA!

BANG

Lars fires his gun from the driver seat of his Mara, killing Mandy instantly, but it was too late: She had fired exact the same moment on Franks chest, and Frank falls in the snow, severely bleeding. Lars yells at his police radio for urgent medical assistance and runs to Frank.

FRANK! FRAAAAANK! YOU ARE TOO STUBBORN TO GIVE UP! Talk to me!

Oh… Lars. It… is… good… that you are here, my… frien…

Bernd Schneider gets the information very fast, and he is visibly struggling to tell Sarah the truth. The otherwise overly self-confident Kriminaloberrat feels helpless himself. Promises Sarah to pick up Jenny and the baby and let his housekeeper care for them, while Sarah should get a Taxi to the hospital.

Schneider did as he promised, but after comforting a desperate Sarah, a crying teenage girl and his housekeeper Vera, still befriended with Sarah [compare to episode 3], it finally overwhelms Schneider on the way to the hospital, he starts to cry, pulls over to the hard shoulder and has a tantrum in his Swanson.

In the waiting room, Sarah and Lars do not talk to each other. But Lars realizes that if he is a friend to her, then he must be it now.

I am sorry, Sarah. At first it was not that obvious from the results of the investigations, and I didn´t have some kind of bad “gut feeling” with her. I was in love. I forgot being a cop.

I am glad you admitted that, but what if it is too late for Frank? What if?

Don´t think like that. Just don´t. He is tough. And as I know him quite well after almost a year, he will NOT skip the opportunity to spiteful tell me that I was wrong and he was right.

Well, Lars… in the end, if he does not make it… he was not alone in his last moments. He saw that you admitted that you were in the wrong and that you even shot the woman you loved to save him. I shouldn´t be mad at you Lars, I apologize, it is just that…

It is ok, Sarah, let it out. But you are the last person that should apologize here.

Just in the moment, the door of the ER opens, with a doctor facing Lars and Sarah.

You are here for Mr. Batimus? Please… follow me to my office.
