S01E05: BUY CHEAP, BUY TWICE

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show, including swearing, political incorrectness (to a certain degree, of course) and the violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

Rainer and Frank had to inform the widow of a trucker that died in a crash, and are in a bad mood.

Rainer, I really hate this part of the job.

You better get used to it. Traffic density is increasing, and it´s capitalism, baby! Squeeze out the most of your drives. And… oh, I would squeeze out myself for that woman, damn.

A Nonozo sports car rolls to the red light next to the lady in the Primus Ares…

Well, maybe I should have declined your offer and become a lawyer, so that I can play in their league…

Forget it, Frank. Even then, you wouldn´t be able to afford the upkeep.

You mean the woman or the car?

Both.

Both potent sports cars take off at green with full acceleration, leaving the cops in their Primus Merit tds behind.

Eh, Rainer, go for it! Let´s arrest them!

Oh, I really want to have her contact data, too, but we are the HIGHWAY PATROL! Not the Berlau city patrol. That´s not our business here.

Not much later, when approaching a red light, both drivers brake, but the Nonozo spins out of control…

This is a start to a serious mayhem in Berlau, involving multiple cars in a serious pileup.

ALL UNITS! SERIOUS CRASH AT THE VOLKMARSTRASSE AT THE INTERSECTION TO THE WALDALLEE! IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE REQUIRED!

Frank, signals!

Eh, didn´t you just say five minutes ago that… AAAARGH! STOP DOING THESE 180S!

Mamba 12-2, this is chief inspector Sordel, Berlau Highway Patrol, responding to the crash at Volkmarstraße. We are near! Send a patrol car to Jahnstraße, a truck driver dropped his load onto the road.

Damn, that´s them! I told you we should have stopped them.

Get some air and help the fire brigade to clean the mess, I will get the driver who caused this.

Ah, Miss…

Friese. Anna Friese, ins…pector, I guess?

Yes, Kommissar Frank Batimus, highway patrol, but we were near to respond… have you seen how it happened?

The white car spun out of control suddenly, and he was on the brakes, but … not much happened.

A technical failure?

I guess so, I mean, a Nonozo shouldn´t behave like this, and it´s quite new, so it´s weird that the brakes failed.

FRANK! STOP FLIRTING! The driver claims that it was a failure of the car. Yeah, yeah, that idiot excuses… anyway, now we got the fucking paperwork stuck on our asses, move yours back in the car, we need to do that at the office!

The next day, Kriminaloberrat Boehme cites his inspectors into his office.

Ah, Sordel and Batimus, you got us a very interessing case here. I got the report from the KTU, they have investigated the Ascendente involved in the crash.

Don´t tell me that asshole was right.

He was, Rainer. His Ascendente consists of at least two or three cars.

What?

Yes. A crashed Nonozo with its chassis number, and some stolen ones… and it was all put together cheaply. Under normal circumstances, you wouldn´t notice, but when doing the race against another sports car, the chassis snapped and broke in half, making the car spin.

And what does the federal inspection say to this?

Nothing, Frank. Just recall what junk we put out of traffic every day…

Boss, that doesn´t pay off for just one car. There must be way more out there.

Yes, Rainer. So, why are you and Frank still here? Get me these lemons!

As next step, Rainer interrogates the Nonozo driver.

So, you have paid how much to this Mr. Geiger for this car?

25.000 Hetvesische Mark…

FOR A THREE YEAR OLD ASCENDENTE GT? And this was not suspicious for you?

For me this was a good deal… I made a test drive, and everything was fine.

NOTHING IS FINE! One person died, three are seriously injured. If I would decide this, I would put you in prison for murder. But good for you that I don´t have to decide. ASSHOLE!

Soon after, they are in the city center of Berlau.

So, that Mr. Geiger has his office here?

Yes, here was the test drive and the purchase.

Rainer, look… an expensive sports car!

Cavaliere Nobile Strato, yes. Guess what? Let´s tow it, I suspect something is wrong with it.

It didn´t take long until the owner complained…

So, again, Mr. Geiger has given you his car to pay for the missing rent…correct?

YES! Half a year he rented that fancy office, and… didn´t pay a single penny. When I wanted to sue him, he offered me this car as deposit. I hope he doesn´t pay, it´s a great car and it would be a bargain for me.

Propably not a bargain, but our technicians are already on it… so, Geiger left two weeks ago without any notice?

Yes, inspector. And what is with my car?

As written in the report, dangerous junk.

I didn´t know you are an expert at car mechanics.

I have tuned up a lot of mopeds in my teens, I know what to do and what not, and these welds… are illegal.

So, Geiger has fooled his landlord, but… as he never paid rent, we also don´t have his bank account…

True. But, you remember how I caused that clattering noise in my car by putting the pen into the vents?

YES! It is still damn annoying.

By searching long enough, we WILL find some proof carelessly left behind. Grab a wrench, we take this thing apart now.

Nothing! I can´t believe it!

Well, Frank, complaining won´t bring us further.

I checked the VINs of the cars. The Ascendente is from Gasmea, the Strato from Frunia… the crashed part of it. The stolen ones… that can´t be determined yet. But that means, they had to be imported.

Good point. Makes sense, the insurance history is unknown here, but they could be imported anyhow.

How about calling the customs office, Rainer? To be registered here without raising suspicion, the car needs clean papers, so the car NEEDS to be imported the official way.

DAMN! Good point, Frank. Let´s check this out.

But Geiger is still a faked identity, and their last hope is checking the harbor, as… a thunderstorm caused the train tracks between Frunia and Hetvesia to be inoperable, and at the same time, the truck drivers went on strike after the toilet fees on Hetvesias highways were doubled, so only the ship was a possible mean of transport.

Yes, a flashy orange Cavaliere Nobile Strato, almost new, but reported to have serious crash damage.

Hm, I don´t look into containers…

I understand. Here, there is a phantom image I have, created after two people who have met him…

AH! THAT GUY! Hmmmm… I think that “Leistner Import Export” was the customer for which he signed…

THANKS!

So, the plan is clear. I go inside, and if he escapes, you will wait at the backdoor.

Yep. And what about the front door?

He must assume I don´t come alone. People always use the backdoor, so keep that controlled.

Mr. Leistner, with your containers, trash cars were imported in order to commit fraud, do you have anything to say?

NO!

LEISTNER! STOP RUNNING! THIS HAS NO SENSE! LEISTNER!!!

GIVE UP!

Forget that, inspector!

EH! DON´T DENT MY CAR YOU MORON! AAAARGH, I WILL GET YOU!

MAMBA 12-2 TO MAMBA 12-3! FRANK, YOU IDIOT, WHERE WERE YOU?

At the back door? Now I am trying to block his way.

Didn´t you notice him jumping out of the window? WHERE WERE YOU?

Rainer, I HAD TO GO AROUND THE WHOLE BUILDING! And these fucking expensive shoes are uncomfortable as hell, I can barely run with them…

THEN THROW THEM AWAY AND BUY SNEAKERS, I DON´T CARE! Let´s hope the tires of your car are not too uncomfortable to chase the suspect!

Rainer, where are you?

Robert-Schob-Straße, heading west. HURRY UP, THAT MORON HAS A FAST CAR!

So do I! Wait for it, don´t push him too much.

FRANK! He is almost at the intersection to the Dieselstraße!

Perfect! NOW, BRAKE! I WILL STOP HIM!

What?

Frank slows down in order to be able to jump out of his car, using the surprise effect, doing a roll and firing onto the tires of the fugitive, while his driverless Primus catches the attention of Leistner, so that he doesn´t evade Franks bullet.

Leistner spins his Hamfa and is unconscious, but not seriously injured… the rest is an easy arrest for Frank and Rainer.

Frank, who do you think you are? JAN-VINCENT VAN DOORNE? THIS KAMIKAZE SHIT IS UNNESSECARY!

Wait, when you do it it´s fine, but when I am a hero, it´s false?

I do this when there is no other way, and if you had properly secured the building, this would have worked just fine without explaining Boehme why we damaged cars again!

Leistner confesses that he has borrowed his old friend Markus Biegel his company´s infrastructure, but didn´t suspect anything at first - he escaped because he thought it was about tax fraud, when Sordel arrived, and in panic didn´t really listen that it was about cars…

So, Markus Biegel is Jochen Geiger?

Seems so, Frank… But, nothing suspicious in here, except for a Globus and a Nonozo, the Globus is registrated on Biegel…

And the Ascendente sedan there is stolen.

How do you know?

I requested a list with car models from the brands Primus, Zephorus, Cavaliere Nobile, Authié&Dallier and other premium to luxury manufactors that were stolen recently… let´s see if its on the list… B-HG 565… blue Nonozo Ascentente 4.0… MATCH!

Now, let´s find Biegel… can you lower the lifter with the Globus? The engine is idling, as if he worked on it just a minute before we arrived… he must have escaped VERY FAST within seconds…

Sure, Frank… but that´s his own, maybe we find documents in it…

Suddenly, the V8 roars and the Globus Phoenix drives off the lifter, crashing through the window and disappearing…

12-2 to department! In pursuit of the suspect Markus Biegel, driving a yellow two door, registration B-JB 292!

He is heading out of the industrial area towards the city center! Assistance required!

Where are the uniformed? BUT IF I AM ONE SECOND LATE, THEY COMPLAIN!

RAINER, WATCH OUT! THAT CAR TURNS INTO OUR STREET!

OH NO, THE OTHER ONE TURNING RIGHT IS COVERING BIEGELS SIGHT! I BETTER SLOW DOWN!

It happened as predicted, Biegel rams the red car, skids towards the sidewalk, gets stopped but also lifted up by a lamppost and lands with his car on the bed of a pickup truck…

12-2 to department! IF YOU CAN´T GET US MORE POLICE UNITS, GIVE US AT LEAST AN AMBULANCE NOW! Suspect crashed.

But, sparks coming from the damaged Globus reached a - caused by the impact - dented and therefore leaking gasoline cannister, and … the inevitable happened. The gasoline ignited and caused a huge explosion.

FRANK, ARE YOU OK?

Yes,… but my suit, crap! Good that I wasn´t running faster with these shoes…

I take back what I said… don´t buy sneakers, keep them… they seem to bring you luck…

S01E06: EXPLOSIVE BULLET

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show, including swearing, political incorrectness (to a certain degree, of course) and the violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

Are you sure this will work?

That gas station is in the middle of nowhere. And the safe is emptied every wednesday. So, they would be prepared for a robbery on tuesday or wednesday before the security company arrives at 8AM. But not on a damn monday.

Believe me, that´s the lowest risk possible. Easy job. Get in, collect the money, drive off. Before the local Sherriff or the highway patrol can respond, we´re gone. It would be better to leave no withnesses behind, but shooting the cashier for just 20.000 Mark feels wrong.

Yes, Leon, I don´t want blood on my hands there.

Kai, there it is. As I said, totally lonely on the L34 to Klein-Bahrow. 30 kilometers away from Berlau. Maybe low revenue, but also low risk.

OK, Leon, I have my mask and gun ready. Let´s do it.

But then a young policewoman appears with her patrol car - just two minutes after Leon and Kai pulled their guns.

Crap, no more cigarettes, I REALLY NEED THEM NOW ON MY FIRST SHIFT! Eh, what´s that? Seems like… a robbery Mamba 12-12 to department, robbery at the gas station at the L34 Assistance required!

Meanwhile, on the nearby A-2:

Rainer, have you heard that? We are not even ten minutes away.

I am not numb, HOLD ON!

No, not your famous 180s again!

In the meantime, the driver of a Mara overtakes a Knightwick, but has to abort the overtake as Rainer does of course his famous 180s, and causes an accident.

RAINER! When do you finally stop doing that?

We are in a hurry, Frank. People being not smart enough to drive isn´t my concern.

At the gas station, the young officer tries to stop the robbers.

THIS IS THE POLICE! HANDS UP! ALL UNITS HAVE BEEN ALARMED IT´S SENSELESS!

But the gangsters open fire, and she has to hide behind her patrol car.

Leon! YOU SAID NO BLOOD! Don´t shoot her!

Kai, if I wanted to kill her I would have hit. Now give me cover so that I can enter the car and let´s get the fuck out of here. Shoot her in the arm or such, if neccecary.

The policewoman has of course no clue and has to fear the worst, and when the gangsters fire again and almost hit her, she shoots at the gas pump, causing a large explosion that immediately kills the gangsters. The windows of the gas station burst, and the impact throws her on the ground.

Not even a minute later, Rainer and Frank arrive.

Oh shit, that looks bad. Frank, report now, I`ll check for survivors.

Mamba 12-2 to department. Officer down, explosion with fire. Unclear situation, maximum caution!

OFFICER! Are you ok?

I… think so? What about the gangsters, are…

FRANK! They are dead. The cashier is unconscious, but alive. Damn, what caused that mess?

I HAD NO CHOICE! YOU NEED TO BELIEVE ME!

Hey, cool down, it´s over. The ambulance will be there any second.

It turns out that the officer is Sarah Maier, having her first day at the highway patrol, and the homicide department started investigating against her. Dietrich Boehme used to know her father well, a cop that had been killed in action, and Sarahs mother developed an alcohol addiction, and when Sarah was going a bad way in her youth, Boehme took care and convinced her to become an officer, too.

Sarah will be in trouble, since she blew up the whole gas station. You are probably the best one to her prepare her for what comes now.

Are you fucking serious, boss?

No, this is not me being salty over your personal reports. Especially since you have survived a lot of investigations against your actions on duty, I think you are the best person to consult her now. Rainer, I am counting on you.

Soon after, Rainer grabs Sarah and wants to simulate the audition at the homicide department.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE?

There was nobody outside except for the gangsters, and…

AH! SARAH, YOU HAD A CLEAR VISUAL ON THE SUSPECTS, YET YOU MISSED?

THAT IS NOT FAIR!

DOES THE FACT THAT YOUR FATHER DIED IN A VERY SIMILAR INCIDENT HAVE LED YOU TO A PANIC?

FUCK YOU!

YOU ARE NOT TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR THE BADGE THEN! Hey, no, don´t cry. I know I was an asshole, but you have to be prepared for such tough questions. I think it´s better when I play the asshole before you get to see the real ones. Let´s get a coffee.

A week later, the audition takes place - and it is the base for the descision if the DA starts a trial against Sarah or not, so she is very nervous. Rainer drives her and waits outside.

What if they are right? I had panic, they are right. And, I might have overreacted.

STOP! There was ONE descision to make, and you made it. If you had not reacted like you did, you could as well be as dead as they are. Those desk-asses don´t know how it´s out there, but I do. You have not done anything wrong!

The audition ended with the descision that Sarah is NOT accused, since no CCTV was left to see what exactly happens, but Sarahs patrol car being swiss cheese was considered enough of an evidence to use gunshots as self-defense, and that it is difficult to hit perfectly when you are under fire yourself. The elder brother of Leon Neuber, the successful criminal Jörn Neuber, who couldn´t be caught due to the lack of proof, swears revenge on Sarah. Back in the department, Rainer and Frank discuss the matter.

What does that mean, Boehme can´t organize protection for her?

Frank, I have heard of colleagues from the vice squad whose children get an escort service for their way home from school… by half of an MC club. AND THEY DIDN´T GET INTO THE PROTECTION PROGRAM.

So, we have to wait until Sarah is killed by Neuber?

In theory yes, but not with us. At the first sign of danger for Sarah, Boehme will relieve us from patroling and make her protection our priority. Also, every officer drives past her apartment in his or her shift.

The next day, Sarah was losing her mind hiding at home, so she wants to drive to work, and a Globus SUV follows her…

On a lonely country road, Sarah then notices that the car follows her for a long time already, and increses speed, and the Globus keeps up. It is now that both realize: This is a chase now.

The V8-powered Globus is faster and rams Sarah, who drives through a nearby park area at the border to Berlau, trying to get rid of the threat behind her.

But Sarahs old Cavaliere Nobile is no match for the mighty SUV, so she escapes to a very narrow country road to shake off the large and heavy follower.

Sarah then sees her last chance in throwing her car down a hill, and jumping out in time. The gangster stops and checks the wreck, while Sarah jumps into the Globus and speeds off. It is a car registrated on one of Jörn Neubers businesses.

Back at the department, the incident is highly discussed.

So, now we finally have something to arrest Neuber for.

Yes, Frank, but we have to find him first. And as long as we don´t, Sarah is in danger.

Well, I can take her to me, she can´t return to her apartment.

AHAHA! Yeah, I knew that you would propose that. But I know you, and I know girls like her, and I can´t be sure that you don´t take advantage of her situation.

WHAT?

Frank, I think you are a good partner, but I know that you´d get her laid as soon as possible. So, I will give her shelter. Still, youll get your chance at flirting since youll help me, I can´t be there 24/7, since I don´t know how long it takes for us to get Neuber.

Rainer, I didn´t think you would be such a backstabber.

Boehme himself ordered me to protect Sarah, make an official complaint to him. So, now excuse me, I need to take my guest home.

For two days, nothing happened, and Rainer was now a bit annoyed of his guest.

Ah, Frank, good that you are here. YOU CAN PLAY THE BODYGUARD NOW. Loud annoying music, putting her stuff everywhere, Sarah makes me mad. And then smoking ALL THE TIME IN MY LIVING ROOM! I get that we can´t open the windows or that she can´t step outside, BUT STILL! And her damn dog chew my shoes! And my pillows! And my window curtains! THOSE WERE A GIFT OF MY MOTHER!

Rainer, you wanted to protect her from my flirting.

Yes, and now I`ll get out and find Neuber to end this charade before I lose my nerves. Any news there, Frank?

A person matching his description is reported to have stolen a Strenus, but… its not that his appearance is that unique.

Suddenly, a Strenus appears outside… and stops. Frank, who prepares coffee while Rainer grabs his coat to leave, realizes that it´s indeed Neuber.

JÖRN NEUBER IS OUTSIDE! EVERYONE RUN! RAINER, LETS GO!

Neuber throws a grenade that … gives Rainer the opportunity to renovate his kitchen, but Neuber sees that Rainer and Frank run outside from the backdoor with guns pulled, and speeds off, while the cops follow him.

Mamba 12-2 to Mamba! In pursuit of a blue…

GREEN!

No, blue!

METALLIC GREEN!

… in pursuit of a weird color Strenus at Kirchweg heading to Teberauer Allee, registration B-DZ… eh, you`ll see it. Watch out, suspect is armed and uses grenades.

This is Mamba 12-14 to Mamba 12-2. Left the A-10 city ring at S-Bahnhof Eberberg. Spotted the vehicle.

Mamba 12-2 to 12-14, GREAT! We are just behind you. Watch out, suspect is dangerous.

RAINER!

That will work.

BARELY! Would you please not kill us?

Jörn Neuber has one grenade left, and with both police cars being more or less aside from each other, he thinks it´s now the best chance to wipe them out both at once.

OOOAAAH FRANK, BRACE FOR IMPACT!

SHIIIIIIIIIIT

But Rainer miraculously evaded the explosion and only slightly bumped into a parked car, while the patrol car was thrown through the air like a toy car.

Mamba 12-11 to Mamba 12-2. The pileup is blocking our way, and we can get our colleague out of the burning car and call an ambulance. Go get that asshole.

Roger! Rainer, full throttle!

There he is again! Frank, fire!

Shit, I left my gun in your house, we were in such a hurry.

AMATEUR!

So, give me yours then.

Well, as you said, we were in quite a hurry.

Damn, he can´t merge there at that speed, especially since there is a bump. STOP!

He will. All right Frank, you got an airbag there.

Neuber squeezes through the little remaining space, but causes all other drivers on the intersection to either spin or crash - Rainer loses the rear of his Primus when trying to evade, and spins into another car, but his car is still driveble and able to continue the pursuit.

Mamba 12-2 to Mamba. We need a fucking roadblock to stop that bastard! He is now heading northwest on the Löwenstraße.

Mamba 12-8 to 12-2, Helmut here. Frank, you got your roadblock.

Finally! Now look for cover, he will be there soon!

Neuber indeed arrives only 30 seconds later, but knows that he is doomed if he stops, so he accellerates the Strenus.

Frank, that doesn´t look good.

Slow down!

Yeah, better not being hit by debris… OOOAAAAH! INCREDIBLE!

HE SPINS AND CRASHES INTO THE STORE!

Yep, and continues driving, let´s go!

No!

Come on, I want that asshole.

WATCH OUT! What´s in all these shelves and boxes?

Didn´t you read the sign? Window curtains. Enough to replace the chewed ones in your apartment.

OH FUCK! THEY ARE EVEN UGLIER THAN MY MOTHERS! REMOVE THEM FROM MY WINDSCREEN!

It´s raining shelves and boxes, use the damn wiper! I won´t stick my head out there.

YEAH GREAT! NOW THEY GOT JAMMED ON THE WIPER AND I CAN´T SEE WHERE I AM GOING. DEAR GOD, ARE THEY UGLY!

STOP THE CAR! I don´t want these fucking ugly window curtains to become the last thing I saw in my life!

NAH, I ALMOST HAVE HIM!

Neuber crashes out of the back showcase window, but was prepared for a sharp turn, while Rainer had no idea where he was going.

Frank, daylight! Where is Neuber?

I have no idea, BUT THERE IS A PHONEBOX!

OOOH SHIIIIIIIIIIT!

Are you OK, Frank?

I HATE WINDOW CURTAINS! You blew the battery. The radio doesn´t work anymore. Great, really great! I told you to stop when you had no sight out of the windscreen.

Is the cable of the phonebox still connected? Here are a few coins, go and alarm the department for backup.

I will strangle you with ugly window curtains for this, really!

Yes, this is Frank. Neuber is last seen heading east on Vogelsangstraße. He is leaking coolant, he won´t get to far, move everything you have. And, eh, we need a towtruck.

Neuber successfully escapes to a backroad near the A10, leaving the Strenus that was already limping at low speed, removing any evidence with a grenade and driving off with his Globus Comet… only a minute before the police arrives.

A few days later…

Rainer, you should really stop waterboarding our informants. This is surely against some human rights convention.

I don´t care about human rights when I want again peace in my apartment! And a new kitchen!

I mean, I could gift you some window curtains for it for christmas.

DONT YOU DARE! So, let me get out, I`ll use the stairs. We do that arrest now as discussed, good luck.

Jörn Neuber leaves the parking lot, but suspects something.

Hm, a brand new Primus Merit, weirdly parked at the exit? I think that´s suspicious…

Frank notices he has been spotted and blocks the way, but Neuber tries his best to avoid Frank and leave the parking deck.

Rainer appears out of the staircase and blocks the way, and since Neuber directly speeds towards him, he shoots Neuber who then crashes into some parked cars.

Damn, Frank, I almost hesitated to shoot.

But you didn´t, so that will be our next audition, then.

Don´t be kidding. I did what I had to do. I mean, he could have stopped. Or at least TRY to avoid running me over. And, because I briefly hesitated, I was running out of time to aim at the tires, or the radiator, or whatever.

I know. Still, I feel like…

Like what, Frank?

How much misery a single wrong descision causes.

Frank, neither did I or Sarah do anything wrong!

I meant the robbery. Both Neuber brothers would be alive, Kai Münch would still be alive, Sarah wouldn´t be such a chainsmoking mess, and… we had a lot less paperwork.

And we would drink a lot less beer, come on, I`ll invite you after the scene is cleared.

Sarah, don´t get me wrong. I just think that we do not need another greenhorn in the team. You might be a good cop, but I already needed a year to make Frank an helpful partner.

Rainer, just take me serious, ok? If you do not want me to be your partner, fine, but just do not judge me.

I do not. It is just that making you an inspector a few months after your first day after graduating at police academy was a bit hasty by Boehme, even if your father was a good cop and you are propably too. He must know a LOT of infuential people at the staff council.

So, you want to spend your shift telling me how much you hate working with me?

Nope, Sarah. I just don´t want you to try to be a hero, as I did with Frank. You can do the stuff that I do when you have routine. Is that a… more acceptable attempt? Ah, forget about it, possibly also bullshit.

No, Rainer, I think this is the first time we actually understand each other.

Mamba for Mamba 12-2, huge demonstration at the headquarter of the HelixPharm AG. Please check for anything suspicious on the highway, reason are possible assaults.

Sarah he… eh, Mamba 12-2 to Mamba, what do you define as suspicious?

Whatever you consider suspicious, over.

A bit later, a red Cavaliere Nobile Zenturio speeds dangerously.

Sarah, what are you doing? Don´t activate the siren.

Why not? That´s a case for us!

We are detective inspectors, our business is crime, not traffic offenses. Please inform the department to send a patrol car to stop him.

RAINER! What if he kills someone, like crashing into a family car with babies in it?

Imminent danger is NOT the justification for everthing.

But for a lot, right?

Yeah, all right, let´s get him. But that´s a fast car, inform the colleagues to slow down traffic further ahead.

Indeed, there is a fair bit of traffic, and the Cavaliere has trouble getting past it.

12-2 to Mamba. In pursuit of a burgundy Cavaliere, registration Berlau-TT 1111. Driving on the A11 inner city ring clockwise. Last seen at exit Zimmerstraße. Please slow the traffic down a few kilometers ahead, he is fast.

Mamba to Mamba 12-2. We have a hard time sending you assistance that fast onto the A11. But our traffic monitoring indicates dense traffic, so you should get him.

Come on, DRIVE YOU MORON!

Rainer, please dont tailgate like that.

Calm down, there is an airbag!

Mamba to 12-2, car was spotted at exit Antonplatz, still driving onto the A11.

We almost have him, good. MOVE OVER!

But disaster already happens, an ACR loses the box on his roofbox, forcing the car behind to swerve - directly in front of the speeding Cavaliere, and the inevitable crash turns into a chain reaction.

The following Aurora can´t brake fast enough, since the Cavaliere squeezed in right before it to then crash into the evading Primus in front…

More and more cars get involved, and a spinning Ilaris crashes against the Aurora and flips, skidding on the roof and then getting stuck.

Now the accident turned into a mass crash…

A Saarland Kaplan approaches, and the driver can not brake because a bottle has rolled behind the pedal… as last way out, he takes the flipped Ilaris as ramp, flies quite a distance and lands hard behind the crash scene…

OH SHIT! RAINER, THAT LOOKS BAD!

Yes, because it is. Call ambulances and the fire brigade, people might be stuck in the cars. Let´s get them out quick if possible.

Rainer, EVERYONE IS ALIVE!

What a miracle. The ambulances are on the way, let´s arrest the driver…

Meanwhile, the HelixPharm boss, Heiner Benning, is found dead in his office. And, the building up traffic jam on Berlaus Rush Hour blocks almost all traffic in Hetvesias Capital…

Mamba to 12-3, Frank are you there?

Goddamned, I was JUST ABOUT TO GET SOME FOOD. I am hungry after arresting smugglers.

The homicide department asks for assistance, since they are stuck in a traffic jam and you are nearby.

Call the damn Kriminaldauerdienst.

That traffic jam is serious, there was a pileup on the A11…

A11 at rush hour? Dear god. What kind of homicide?

The CEO of the HelixPharm AG died, and the doctor suspects it was not a natural cause.

Now THAT is interessing. Propably a career boost if I solve that case, I am on my way.

Meanwhile, Frank manages to get past the demonstrating masses and talks to the secretary of Mr. Benning.

Madam, if the investigative journalists are right with their accusation, your company is involved in environmental violations, fraudulent accounting, and corporate espionage, and not to forget a climate of intimidation against employees.

Do not believe what is on TV, that is all unrealistic.

Somebody must have killed him, and people rarely do this without reason. So, what has your security service to say so far?

Follow me, Inspector Batimus…

Checking the security cameras reveals that five people visited the CEO, and all of them had a reason to get rid of Benning. A former employee that was fired by the boss himself, a business rival that lost a major contract due to the underhanded tactics of Benning, and a whistleblower who was about to expose the companys illegal activities, as seen in the news, the wife, who is in a bitter divorce and also an activist, being against the company’s unethical practices and sneaking into his office to spill fake blood there.

Soon after, Rainers phone rings…

Sordel?

Yes, Frank here. What exactly is going on on the A11?

Sure you want to know?

Yes, because I am investigating a murder…

You WHAT?

I will explain later. All my suspects have to use the A11 clockwise to get home, and maybe you could check if they are stuck in the traffic jam.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY CARS ARE STUCK HERE? THAT TAKES AGES!

So, I start with Michael Lotz, driving a burgundy Ca…

Are you kidding? That idiot caused this mayhem by drunk driving!

DO NOT LET HIM GO! And please check for the others. I will give you the names and registrations.

Why is that my job?

Because getting there is quite difficult at the moment, Rainer, and you are already two persons, split work with Sarah.

Frank, take it easy. You are two ranks below me, I refuse to accept your commanding tone. Yes, I will do the investication, but keep a low profle, otherwise we will get in trouble. Understood?

OK, Sarah, time to make yourself useful. You remember the notification about the protest at that shady Pharma company? Their CEO is death, and the doctor said it was poison. Five people are suspected, and one of them is our crash pilot here. And that punk with that loudspeaker car is another suspect too. Let us put some pressure on them.

Mr. Lotz, yesterday, you had a heated confrontation with the boss after being fired. You were escorted out by security, vowing revenge. Cameras show that you entered the building today again.

Yes, but… I wanted to wait for him, but then… I just ran out and got drunk! I suggest you look for Laura Adamski. Laura met with the boss in a failed attempt to negotiate a truce. The meeting ended badly, with Laura threatening to take him down by any means necessary. And I saw her in the building!

We will, Mr. Lotz, no worries.

HANNA LÖFFLER?

Yes, sir…

Why is there a loudspeaker on your car?

It was helpful for protesting.

But you did not stay outside. Instead, you went inside, got into the office, and then ran out and you escaped very fast with the car. Briefly after, Benning was dead. So…

HE IS DEAD?

Do not play the innocent here. You are one of my top suspects, and you better tell me what happened.

I confronted Heiner Benning during a public protest, accusing him of destroying the environment. I was escorted out by security but promised to make him pay, BUT NOT BY KILLING HIM!

And, you think I believe this?

Inspector, you should interrogate Arne Langhans. He has collected incriminating evidence against the boss but is also implicated in the shady deals. He feared going to jail if the whole story came out.

You better speak the truth there, young lady!

Sarah, I spotted the Fanella of Mrs. Adamski. It is right up there, I will continue there. This Arne Langhans, well, the Allen is right there behind the Barrier.

Well, do you think that we can solve the case just by interrogating people stuck in a traffic jam?

The first 48 hours are very important, after that it is not impossible but of course much harder. Frank ordered a helicopter to transport the body to the ME since the roads are blocked, we should get results of soon.

Results?

He has been poisoned. But we do not know with what, anyway, I think it´s this activist or his wife.

Why?

Poison is a way to kill someone that is highly favorized by women. My gut feeling says it is one of them.

I can´t listen to that bullshit any longer, see you later…

Driver! What is going on there?

Mrs. Adamski, I have no idea. Propably a serious crash.

Heiner Benning has been murdered, I just got the call. Please get me a bottle of champaign out of the trunk.

Haven´t we been just there an hour ago?

So what, your job is driving, not asking questions. So please, I am in celebration mood.

Sure, madam.

Benning?

Mrs. Benning… this is Laura Adamski. Your husband is dead, murdered, my informant told me.

Informant? I knew you were using dirty tactics as well, and you were about to be exposed. I have seen you in the building today!

Mrs. Benning, do not lean yourself out of the window. My informant is good. You have been secretly siphoning funds from your joint accounts and funnelled them into offshore accounts, which your husband recently discovered. If I was you, I would call a lawyer now…

Mr. Langhans, you are not that innocent, as we have heard.

Bullshit!

You did espionage on behalf of the Wiemann AG and were paid by CEO Laura Adamski. Plus, you were profiting from the dirty deals of Mr. Benning.

Why don´t you arrest Michael Lotz? Did he tell you why he was fired? Mike has been embezzling small amounts of money from the company for months. He was worried the boss discovered it, leading to his abrupt firing.

Mrs. Adamski?

My time is limited. What do you want?

I am chief inspector Rainer Sordel. I am investigating the…

The death of Heiner Benning.

How do you know?

I have radio and TV for the backseat here. Don´t you think that has already been on the news?

You have no alibi, you were in the building, and that in the time in which your rival was killed.

You should arrest that activist, I think her name was Hanna, that had broken into the company’s records to find proof of environmental violations, and Benning caught her. She was threatened with legal action if she didn’t back off and… she had to avoid by being sexually harrassed by Heiner Benning. I think, this IS a reason for murder, if you ask me, inspector.

Mrs. Benning, you and the boss had a bitter argument over the divorce settlement. You accused him of hiding assets and threatened to ruin him.

So what?

So you can not act like the shocked and grieving widow anymore, I am afraid.

CAREFUL! How old are you? 22? 25? You are at the beginning of your career, and it would be a shame if it was over soon, right?

Are you threatening me?

I was just asking a question. Would you mind giving me your badge number, inspector?

Not at all. You will not intimidate me.

At the same time, Frank managed to get to the coroners office.

So, make it quick, we are under time pressure.

Please, Mr. Batimus, be patient. So far I can say it happened around 2 PM.

Well, that is helpful. But the security cameras just showed the people ENTERING, not leaving. So, all my suspects had entered by that time, but…

BUT THIS IS YOUR JOB. I did mine, and now make the best out of it, Inspector.

After an update to Rainer and Sarah, Frank got the task to check the statements that the suspects made.

Frank, have you checked the alibis, now that the coroner could determine the time of the poisoning?

Damn, Rainer, I have to drive a lot of detours to not get into one of that damn traffic jams! The phone records of Adamskis lawyer revealed she was indeed in a heated call with her lawyer at the time of the murder. The conversation was about an unrelated business deal, supported by the lawyer’s statement.

And the others?

I AM ON IT!

A bit later…

Rainer?

On the phone.

Security footage showed Michael Lotz leaving the building NOT out of the parking garage since his keys were revoked, and after leaving via the main entrance, he was seen heading straight to a bar after his outburst. His alibi is solid, the bartender confirmed it, and well, the alcohol test you did, too.

This leaves us with Langhans, Löffler and Miss Benning.

Damn, how long does this take, inspector?

As long as neccecary, Mr. Langhans. By the way, where have you been at 2 AM? You have no alibi yet.

HAH! I do have. I was caught in a speed trap on the Birnenallee. There was an officer in the car, you can ask him if he noticed my car.

YOU HAVE NO ALIBI! AND WE KNOW WHAT HEINER BENNING DID TO YOU! Why did you not come to the police? Intruding a building is a joke compared to a rape! Why did you put justice in your own hands? WHY DO YOU WANT TO SPEND YOUR WHOLE LIFE IN PRISON, WAS THAT WORTH IT? MISS LÖFFLER, I AM TALKING TO YOU!

Then, Hanna Löffler suffers from a panic attack, having a breakdown and almost fainting, being frozen and unable to continue speaking, and Sarah called an ambulance.

Ah, there you are. Oh, that looks serious. You are a bit pale and sweating, and you are shaking… better enter quick…

YOU ARE NOT HERE FOR ME! It´s that young lady on the ground. Damn!

Rainer headed to the trunk of his car, grabbing something, but Sarah surprised him.

RAINER! Is that… wodka?

None of your business.

So this is why you are so nervous… you are shaking and you lost temper in the interrogation! It was an open secret that you are alcoholic, but you can NOT continue your service like this!

WHO ARE YOU TO SPEAK UP TO ME LIKE THIS?

You have been rude to me earlier this day because you were worried that I will face the same fate as my father and die in action. Do you think I do not care about you? I am worried, you idiot!

Well… I think one of your cigarettes might do the job until I am finally home.

Rainer, didn´t Frank say that the activists were filmed by the security camera… having a camcorder with them?

So, you think, they filmed at the time of the murder? And we could see if Hanna is there or not? Good idea! Call Frank, I will buy ourselves some time.

What do you mean, with cleaning up slower?

I can´t open the barrier yet. Fake a breakdown of your vehicle or something, I need to keep the suspects stuck here for another hour at least.

I HAVE KIDS WAITING AT HOME!

I do not, so execute the order.

So, they hide here?

Yes Frank, there was no camcorder in Löfflers car, but the map was marked there. It must be their hideout.

Ok, I found somethink like a … container. Fresh tire marks.

SHIT! ENGINE NOISE! THEY MUST HAVE SPOTTED ME!

Frank, the camcorder is vital for the investigation. And we are running out of time!

Frank chases the red sedan through the industrial area.

Amelie, he is still behind us.

That is a brand new Primus! How am I supposed to shake him off? Damn, I thought it was an investment banker trying to evaluate the property.

Nah, I knew it was a cop. Haven´t you heard it on the radio? Benning is dead! And now they want to blame us for it!

Mrs. Benning, I suggest you call your lawyer. You do not have an alibi. And you…

Inspector Maier, enough. What you do here is deprivation of freedom. I want to speak to your superior officer NOW.

But the red Lata does not make it through a corner and crashes into a parked car…

Frank blocks the way and pulls the gun.

GET OUT!

WE HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG! IT WAS NOT US!

I know.

What?

You dumbasses! Your friend Hanna Löffler is in trouble, and I CAME HERE TO ASK YOU TO HELP HER!

But… how?

Your camcorder! Where is it?

Oh no, inspector… I think it did not survive the crash…

And there went all proof that your friend was with you at the time of the murder. BRILLIANT!

But the cassette is still intact.

Well, my patrol car has a monitor in the trunk to show the highway maniacs their violations that I just filmed. Let´s see then. Assistance is there, DONT MOVE! You still caused a crash. IDIOTS!

Meanwhile, it is 8 PM, and it has turned dark, with the people caught in the traffic jam freaking out.

FRANK! FINALLY! So, what is the result?

Rainer, Löffler is innocent. They filmed her around 2PM holding a banner. And by that time, she was already thrown out by security for … ten minutes. Bennings last call was made at 1:53 PM.

And who did he call?

His banker. And that leads us to…

Miss Benning, I arrest you for murder of your husband. You have the right to call a lawyer, and the right to say nothing. Everything you say can be used for or against you.

WHAT? Inspector Sordel, this will have consequences.

Yes, for you. Your husband called his banker before he died. He definitely knew about your money in offshore accounts. You used your familiarity with the building’s security routines to sneak into the office and out of it, avoiding the main entrance, but you were filmed by some activists how you have thrown a lipstick in the bin, and you walked back in to get to the parking garage and leave with the car, since you had to fear being stopped by us on the way back, depending how fast your husband would be found. Of course, we checked it, and the lipstic contains exactly the fast-acting poison used in the murder.

Julia Benning put out a knife and threatened Rainer to give him his gun and car keys, as his car was not stuck in the traffic jam.

RUNNING AWAY HAS NO USE!

CORRECT! I am Kriminalkommissar Batimus, you are arrested! Freeze. I will shoot before you can even raise that gun!

When the barriers were removed, the traffic started to roll again, and the three officers discuss at the scene.

Sarah, Frank, this was good work.

Do you think she has done the world a favour by killing this monster?

Maybe, Sarah, but she did it out of the wrong motive. Greed is hardly better than what her husband did. Frank, what is your opinion?

That we should go to bed. This was tiring.

S02E05: The Escape (Part 1)

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show, including swearing, political incorrectness (to a certain degree, of course) and the violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

A man tries to escape a prison by doing a very simple trick and is easily caught. A few days later, a prison van leaves the Berlau state prison to head towards another one…

Meanwhile, in the office of Kriminaloberrat Dietrich Boehme:

Rainer, what is your concern?

The transfer of Erwin Kramer is one of the most important jobs, as it is Hetvesias most famous and most dangerous mass murderer. Why are you letting Helmut and Rudi…

PETERSEN AND KASALLEK ARE EXPERIENCED AND RELIABLE OFFICERS! Rainer, this is a routine procedure. Everytime somebody tries to break free, they will be transferred. This happens … at least once a month and Petersen and Kasallek have done well. What was written in the nightbook?

Stolen tanker truck. I already ordered Sarah to investigate, but I doubt anything interessing will be told.

Good. Rainer, you and your team owe me reports of the last two weeks. Get to your desk.

Meanwhile, Helmut and Rudi in the Eroberung join the convoy, as the prison van is protected by two patrol cars, and they merge onto the A2 without inconvenience.

Some kilometers further ahead, a businesswoman is discussing with a trucker.

An empty trailer would have been fine, too.

Yes, but since I had only one day to organize a truck with trailer, I SADLY was unable to drain it all and sell it for profit.

Kramer counts on us. Don´t mess up, understood?

Back in the office, the discussion between Rainer and Frank is heated.

Frank, something is weird. I am surprised Kramer tried such a cheap trick. He is highly intelligent and just tried to rip off the keys from a guard…

Yes, I guess he was just bored or trying to get stories for his next book.

Oh, Frank, dont start this. Becoming a multi-millionaire by writing how he murdered 26 people for nothing is so disgusting… anyway, he propably wanted to check if the construction site on the A2 is still there… when he was caught 3 years ago, it definitely was there, and so it is now.

RAINER! WAIT! What if… he provoked the transfer because HE WANTED TO BE TRANSFERRED?

You mean, … he wanted to be transferred because he has a plan? And…

YES! He planned an escape on the highway. NOW, LET´S INFORM THEM. What´s their radio code?

Meanwhile, two people discuss aside of the A2…

So, as soon as the convoy shows up, you follow them in a range of 50 meter. Then the signal will be jammed with the device onto your antenna. Any questions?

Yes, when will I get paid the other 50 percent?

When Kramer is safely outside of Hetvesia.

So, do I have communication at least?

Of course NOT! It blocks mobile phones and police radio, nothing works. You just follow the convoy without acting suspicious, comprende?

Ok, ok… and then we meet up at that bar and split the money?

Yes, I know you are broke but don´t stress me. NOW, THERE THEY ARE! HURRY UP!

Meanwhile, Sarah is getting a call from the department.

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba 12, please respond! Sarah, it´s Frank! We can´t get contact to Rudi and Helmut, and we think an attack on the convoy is planned or even already in place. Are you already on the A2 westbound?

Yes. I am at kilometer 603.

THAT FAR AWAY? The convoy must be at kilometer 637. Hurry up, I will join you!

Now Frank and Rainer are hurrying to the cars…

…while Sarah plows her way through traffic to close up with the convoy.

Frank, we split up!

What?

Yes, you will catch him from the highway, I will take the route with the country roads in case they leave the highway.

Roger.

Frank speeds on the A2, catching up on Sarah…

I will join you soon!

How that?

200 compared to …115 horsepower? DAMN, MOVE OUT OF THE WAY! WHAT IS THE USE OF TURBO AND VIER AWD SYSTEM WHEN THEY ARE DRIVING LIKE UNDER NARCOTICS?

Frank, I still can´t get through to Helmut and Rudi…

I know. I hope it is not too late!

5 minutes later, Frank overtook Sarah at 200 kph, and they discuss the plans…

So, I have calculated, if the convoy proceeds at 100 kph, we have them in like 20 minutes… I am sure it happens at Zassow, because there is a small airport…

Why, Frank?

The fastest and safest way to get out of Hetvesia is a plane! And that´s a small airport without police control or any security near the route of the prison transfer. It is by far the most logical thing! You will take the exit at Zassow and head to the airport, it´s another 18 kilometer from there.

But the driver of the Nordwagen that they just overtook noticed the two cop cars speeding…

URSULA! The police just passed me at high speed with two unmarked cars, and they are quite in a hurry to close up on the van. They must have suspected something. Are you still at Zassow?

Yes, I will now start plan B, the truck will be on time. Leave the highway at Zassow, since it will be blocked soon. Then merge at Jakobsburg again and try to overtake the convoy, plan C will take place, we need sniper assistance.

The lady orders the truck driver to start plan B, whatever that means, and speeds off herself to an unknown direction.

Meanwhile, Frank and Sarah seperate ways as planned.

Only five minutes later, a truck driver causes his trailer to get loose and flip intentionally, and manages to escape, while the trailer blocks the A2…

The following cars can not react in time, a Hayaku and an Aurinko crash, while the driver of a Splitfin GT can react in time and stop the car only centimeters before disaster. Still, everyone leaves the dangerous situation immediately…

… and this is neccecary, since a Mara Bizon pickup truck can´t stop in time, unlike the Imperator with far better brakes… and with the weight of the pickup, the gasoline in the tanker trailer is finally ignited, causing an inferno, directly in front of Frank who approaches the scene in his Baumhauer 318t Vier at almost 220 kph…

Franks only chance is using the lost load of the Mara as ramp… and praying.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

After a hard landing, Frank was able to leave the car, and except for a few bruises he is fine… and can´t really believe how lucky he was.

But, with the elimination of Franks car, the gangsters now have more time - Rainer is still needing time, and so does Sarah who got lost on country roads. The gangster in the Nordwagen managed to overtake the convoy and get into position, shooting at the Eroberungs fuel tank with his sniper and blowing the car up.

The driver of the other police car, but also the van driver, desperately try to contact the headquarter, without effect, since the car with the signal blocker is still with them.

An ARVA now speeds up, since the van and the patrol car do evasive maneuvers, and the ARVA rams the patrol car, spinning it so that the van crashes head on into it, despite braking hard.

Kramer in the back of the van got a bit shaken up, and needs to be helped to the Zephorus that was now delivered to him as getaway vehicle.

As you ordered, their newest model with a 4.6 liter V8.

Thanks, Ursula! I will fulfil my part of the deal as soon as I am on a nice sunny island.

The gangsters then get into their vehicles and leave the scene.

Rainer arrives 6 minutes later, and has to find out that the officers guarding the convoy were shot. But one is still alive with last breathe.

HEY! WHERE IS KRAMER? AND WHERE ARE HELMUT AND RUDI?

D…ead…

WHO? KRAMER?

O…officers… Kramer escaped in a white… Zep…

WHAT? NO, STAY ALIVE! HEY! Shit!

Rainer has to fight some tears before being able to give an update to the department.

Mamba for Mamba 12-2, please… respond. Kramer has escaped in a white Zephorus. Two dead officers here, and… I was told officers Petersen and Kasallek also did not make it.

Sarah here! What? They are dead? But…

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER! Please… do not cry and let emotions take over. I need you now more than ever. Where is Frank?

We seperated ways and…

HE MUST HAVE ARRIVED BEFORE ME! SHIT!

You mean, Frank is…

NO! Do not think that way. I am quite sure that Frank is still somewhere out there and fine. Kramer escaped in a white Zephorus. But I do not know where he is heading.

Frank told me that he wants to get to the small airport at Zassow…

RIGHT! I WILL DRIVE THERE. Watch out for the Zephorus.

Kramer meanwhile enjoys his freedom and indeed heads towards Zassow airfield.

RAINER! KRAMER! He is driving into the opposite direction on the L44! Right to the airport!

BLOCK HIM! I AM 5 MINUTES AWAY! BUT BE CAREFUL, HE IS A MERCILESS MONSTER!

Sarah does as ordered, but Kramer, noticing that he has the gun in the trunk and not ready now, tries to squeeze past Sarah, but the cars collide, catapulting Sarahs Knightwick up in the air.

Just when Sarahs car landed more or less safely, an SUV is unable to stop in time, and by doing an evasive maneuver, the driver at least did not ram the passenger compartment but the rear quarter of Sarahs car, but loses control and smashes into a tree.

Sarah exits the wreck of her Knightwick and wants to check for the driver of the SUV, but he is dead… Sarah realizes that he died by trying to not kill her in the impact, but has no time to let emotions take over as Rainer arrives and orders her to enter his car.

The forest? WHY?

The whole police force is after him. All roads are blocked. If he wants to reach the airport, it only works through the forest because there is nobody present… YET! Hold on tight, Sarah!

This does not look like we have the right tool for the joooooooob…AAAAAAAAAAA!

Neither has Kramer, our car is still way better in that conditions than his sports car.

Not even five minutes later, and by using a compass to determine the right direction, Rainer has closed up on Kramer.

OH NO! A paved straight line. That´s not good. Sarah, SHOOT!

I… can´t, I really can not move at the moment…

REALLY? HOW CAN SUCH COWARDS BE ALLOWED AS INSPEC… Sorry. I was unfair. I guess I am just too used to the dark sides of this job, please do not take serious what I was about to say about you. That paved road will end somewhere, and then he´s dead in the water again.

But when this was the case, Kramer was out of sight, and the inspectors could only guess where he would be…

Kramer meanwhile sees a chance to get rid of the Zephorus that struggles more and more with offroading and starts to fall apart.

The inspectors also spot the lonely house, and think that Kramer could hide there, so they enter the property and find the Zephorus there… but without Kramer.

Sarah, let´s be careful. I watch your back, and you watch mine. Kramer is one of the most dangerous people I have ever chased.

Rainer, have you removed the key from our car?

No… damn, go get it, but I also haven´t heard engine noises, so that was on time. Good idea, Sarah.

Unaware of the fact that the Primus would have been ready to go with the key inside, Kramer focussed on the offroad car parked next to it (since it would be the best choice in the forest) - and stole it. Sarah runs, jumps into Rainers car and speeds off, chasing Kramer.

SARAH! NO! ARGH! STUUUUUPIIIIID B… aby!

Rainer realizes that Kramer took the Zephorus keys with him, and that left him with only one choice of transportation…

Meanwhile, the chase between Kramer and Sarah is going on, with Sarah struggling to keep up with the RWD car.

But Kramer is stressed, and the impact in the prison van with the head against the hard wall made him feel dizzy, and he finally lost the focus and lost control over the Yamaguchi, crashing into a tree.

Sarah exits the Primus and looks for Kramer… but the crashed jeep is empty, while Kramer already hid behind the other car, having the gun loaded and ready…

HA! FREEZE! DROP THE GUN AND KICK IT WITH THE HEEL IN MY DIRECTION!

Shit!

DO NOT MOVE! The only reason why I did not shoot you right now is that a policewoman as hostage is the best that could happen, seen from the perspective of a life insurance…

Kramer, you won´t get far.

You are quite a pessimist. Or an optimist, depending what standpoint to choose. You know what? We make a nice drive.

The airport is already secured.

AHAHAHAHA, THE AIRPORT? You are insulting my intelligence. Dont you think I know that? We will drive somewhere else. ENTER THE CAR!

So, where are we heading?

I won´t tell you. Hand me out your mobile phone. You won´t need it, and we don´t have a signal here in the no mans land either. NO TRICKS! I WARN YOU! You are a nice benefit to have, but I don´t need you and I do not hesitate to get rid of you.

Sarah carefully merges the next road, and drives away.

Rainer needs 15 minutes with the bicycle to get to the crash site, and seeing the crashed jeep abandoned, and also the tire tracks of his own car, he realizes that Sarah has been kidnapped and runs to the nearest road, being able to stop an IP.

KRIMINALHAUPTKOMMISSAR RAINER SORDEL! You need to drive me now! Direction… eeh, straight foward!

Crap! My mobile phone! I must have lost it on the way! Do you have one?

These things are super expensive. Would I drive an IP Urbana if I had the money for a mobile phone?

Oh, dont annoy me. I need to think… where is that asshole heading…

Hmmm… the airport is blocked, no chance. Train? No chance. But we can not control the whole coastline. Ibenhafen has too many cops… but if he wants to Porta Minta… Wildufer is the best choice. And the fastest way is driving onto the A2 to Ibenhafen, but leaving a few exits before and then using the L64. LADY; ONTO THE A2 BUT LIGHTSPEED!

Meanwhile, on the A2:

Come on, 85 kph. YOU ARE PLAYING A DANGEROUS GAME BY BUYING THE POLICE TIME!

Hey, I am sure you want to escape by ship, and we are low on gas. If you want to make it to Ibenhafen without a risky stop, then… I wouldn´t speed. Plus, we are unsuspicious by going slow.

FASTER! FASTER!

THIS IS AN URBANA, IT CANT GO FASTER!

Your poverty is really pissing me off, lady.

Sarah is still going as slow as possible, hoping that Rainer is already on his way.

OH COME ON! I`ll risk a fuel stop IF YOU WOULD PLEASE PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAAAAAS!

I would not recomm…

I HAVE THE GUN AND I DO NOT NEED YOU, REMEMBER? SPEED UP TO 120 AND NOT A SINGLE LESS!

But Rainer travels at 140 kph… and when Kramer finally ordered Sarah to drive faster, Rainer was no longer far behind.

THERE HE IS! THE BLUE MERIT!

So… what now?

Follow it! What else? I won´t start a gunfight on the left lane now.

But when the elephant race with all these trucks is over, we will fall back.

WHY?

The engine is overheating. Does this look like a sports car?

IP are reliable, we will be fine.

BANG

EH! WHAT IS THIS?

I told you that the car is overheating, this is an Urbana and not a Zephorus! Now my radiator exploded.

FUCK!

Shit, Kramer increases the distance… Ok, lady, drive further right, directly next to the truck. I will change my mean of transport.

ARE YOU CRAZY?

My ex-wife said so, yes… CLOSER!

Rainer jumps onto the truck, climbs it up and jumps over to the one in front of him… trying to get to his Primus before Sarah would get rid of the truck in front of her.

While Sarah can see Rainer doing the dangerous jumps, Kramers mirror is adjusted in a way he can´t see what happens, while the IP has finally to give up - Rainer is now without a “taxi” anymore.

But the distance for the next jump is too far, Rainer almost falls to a certain death but manages to hold on and pull himself up… but that came at the cost of precious time he did not have…

SHIT! THERE THEY GO! FUCK! FUCK!

Ah! That could work.

Rainer sees an open convertible going quite near the truck he is standing on, and decides to use that chance and jumps in it.

HUUUARRRRGHHHGN!

WHAT THE FUCK???

WATCH OUT, FOCUS ON THE ROAD!

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE???

Chief inspector Rainer Sordel, this is a police chase, speed the fuck up until we close up on a blue Primus Merit!

The car leaves the highway halfway to Ibenhafen, to the surprise of both Sarah and Rainer.

Dude, you got a cellphone?

Yes, but the battery died.

Not my day… Shit. Well, then let´s continue following them, it is more important to know where they are going instead of informing the department…

Half an hour later, Kramer directed Sarah to an abandoned area.

The next left, and there we are! Stop at that entrance!

EXIT! AND NO TRICKS!

What are we doing here… here is … NOTHING!

None of your business.

With a bit of distance, Rainer arrived with his unvoluntary taxi driver.

Inspector… I don´t feel comfortable here… a few kilometers ago there was a gas station with a telephone, dont you think that…

SSSHHH! I need to get information about the situation first. Wait here!

Rainer sneaks around the building, an abandoned power plant, and notices that there are just Kramer and Sarah, but nobody else… he has the urge to immediately enter the building, but is unaware of possible traps, so he decides to inform Boehme as next step.

Inside, Sarah is threatened to go further inside of the building.

Well, that is the perfect place to hide, don´t you think? I guess we still have plenty of time to enjoy ourselves until your colleagues arrive.

You wait here for them?? What? And what is your understanding of enjoyment?

Oh, dont worry, you will soon find out, HAHAHAHAHAHARRRR!

UPDATE: Due to getting the update, I have a bit of trouble adjusting the cars so that they work again. Also I had to create custom photoscenes by manually making 360 HDRI images. So please have understanding that there is some delay, but I plan to have the episode ready as christmas surprise for you

I have even made more than originally announced since I thought it´s a nice surprise, and especially Rainer was only for a short time in a main role, and three episodes are not enough to build the character.

I think everything from the 90s deserves more than just one episode per year, since from the three previous rounds with a whole season, 2 of 3 were set in the 00s.

For the cars: Until 1999 I have enough by now, 2000 already exists (CSCS2), so submissions are still open for 2001-2008, I corrected that in the OP, splitting up in deadlines in january and april 2025.

S02E06: A lonely victory (Part 2)

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show, including swearing, political incorrectness (to a certain degree, of course) and the violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

RAINER! It is about time that you report! Where are you?

Not much time, boss! The abandoned power plant on the B51, Kramer is there and he holds Sarah hostage. Petersen and Kasallek…

Are dead, I know.

Where is Frank?

Here. He survived an explosion unharmed. Rainer, I will call the Spezialeinsatzkommando.

NO TIME! UNTIL THE SEK IS HERE, HE CAN DO WHATEVER WITH SARAH! And the SEKs priority is arresting Kramer at all cost. That means that Sarah…

Is a casualty, yes.

I will not let that happen.

Rainer, no one-man show! I will order Hauptkommissar Schneider and his SEK that Sarahs life has the highest priority.

Bullshit! I know Schneider, that´s a military man from an elite force. He doesn´t think twice before shooting.

Rainer, this is not negotiable. You wait there for backup.

Send me Frank! We will get Sarah out and then Schneider and his army can do whatever they want with Kramer. I got things to do, boss.

OIG1.wtwmoidi0PS7uclRvZ

Mr. Boehme, he is right.

Frank, you will stay here and wait for the SEK.

Sir, in this case I must disobey the order.

Your career has been exemplary so far, do you really…

My career is not my concern when it is about the lives of my partners.

Fine. Good luck Frank, but don´t try to be a hero.

24rewfs43r

Meanwhile, Rainer returns to the power plant and searches for an entry, which he finds, but what he sees and hears lets his blood boil…

345twrfsvcxy

So, this will nice. You just should be friendlier, damn, I bet you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Just…do me the favor of shooting me now and have fun afterwards…

Ah, you will feel as alive as never before, I promise.

24rwf43rwfdsv

In order to distract Kramer from raping Sarah, Rainer causes a short circuit and an explosion in the control room.

HiResPhoto5660_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5661_1,920-1,080

Meanwhile, Frank speeds like a maniac, but secretly knows that he is too far away to stop Rainer in time from doing it alone.

Rainer escapes in order to hide, as Kramer walks towards the explosion, pressing his gun into Sarahs neck…

HiResPhoto5662_1,920-1,080

So, let´s see who distracts our special moments here…

HiResPhoto5663_1,920-1,080

Rainer has the urge to start shooting, but knows he needs to wait for the right moment.

HiResPhoto5664_1,920-1,080

He finally can not wait any longer and opens fire on Kramer, who can dodge the bullet and fire back. Sarah uses the moment to run for her life.

HiResPhoto5665_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5666_1,920-1,080

Sadly, Rainer slips on some kind of oil, and can not evade the bullet from Kramer, and is hit in the chest.

HiResPhoto5667_1,920-1,080

Bad luck, you bastard.

Rainer uses his last breath to spit Kramer in the face, who then laughs about Rainer dying in agony, but then notices that Sarah could escape. Sarah is by now too far away for him to catch up, and Kramer realizes that he will lose valuable time if he chases her, and uses the keys to Rainers car that Sarah lost in the escape to get away.

HiResPhoto5668_1,920-1,080

Frank arrives soon after, having a weird feeling and searching for an entrance.

HiResPhoto5658_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5659_1,920-1,080

SARAH! Thank god! Damn, what has that asshole done to you?

You are alive? I was never so happy to see you… But Rainer…

Yes, where is he? He managed to get you out, damn, what a guy! Where is…

2wfd43rfwd

Sarahs sadness said it all to Frank, so he did not ask any further question. He promises Sarah to come back soon, but runs then inside, hoping that Rainer is NOT dead.

4wefwewfd

Meanwhile, Kramer speeds through the forest, but turns into a dead end… right into a lake.

Frank then found Rainer, dragged him out of the building and closed the eyes of his partner and waited for the SEK to arrive, not leaving his dead friend alone.

432rewf2rew

Rainers death is handled by the homicide unit, but Frank orders, without Boehmes consent, Kriminalobermeister Behrendt, to survey Kramers lawyer. After all, the escape of his client brought him a lot of media attention and money, plus, he was the only one to speak in private with Kramer in the prison.

HiResPhoto5681_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5683_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5684_1,920-1,080

Frank, this is Stefan, he just drove home from his office.

Wait for it! I am sure he has contact with Kramer. Do not stop the observation.

But Frank…

NO DISCUSSION! Kramer killed Rainer, Helmut and Rudi, not to forget 27 other innocent people. And Dr. Schubart changed his Nordwagen Valkyria into a brand new Imperator and paid cash, and that a day after the escape of Kramer. This is not a coincidence.

HiResPhoto5686_1,920-1,080

Soon after, Dr. Schubart returns to his Imperator and drives off, followed by Kriminalobermeister Behrendt.

HiResPhoto5722_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5721_1,920-1,080

Ursula, we got a problem. A car is following me. Is Kramer ready to remove my shadow?

He will be, Johann. Don´t worry, just come here as usual.

HiResPhoto5720_1,920-1,080

Although the night is almost over, the officer still follows the lawyer to the docks, and Kramer is waiting in a jeep for his task: Getting rid of Kriminalobermeister Behrendt.

Great, Ursula. So, how is the plan with Kramer?

Well, his book sold a lot and made me almost a millionaire, and now that he will go into exile, he can write a second one about his escape, and this one will make me unbelievably rich.

How about my share for “borrowing” you my client?

Johann, you have been paid exceptionally well. Have you organized the passport for Kramer?

Yes, and you will take care of his collection?

Everything will be moved in the following days. But Kramer insisted on supervising the transport. This is a risk.

You know how much he loves his treasures. You better hurry up, Ursula.

At noon, a young couple wants to have some romantic time at the Berlau city river, but finds a dead body - it is KOM Stefan Behrendt, and soon Frank arrives at the scene.

HiResPhoto5777_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5776_1,920-1,080

Inspector Batimus, we already have a first report from the coroner. The cause of death was drowning. Judging from the injuries, the car was hit hard before falling into the water, possibly jamming the driver side door. He made it out, but not in time…

Thanks, eeeh, Mister…?

Walkowski, Jakob Walkowski. I have been transferred to replace officer Petersen. This is Polizeiobermeister Uwe Holtmann, another new colleague…

Thanks, Mr. Walkowski. I wish the reason for our partnership at the highway patrol would be more pleasant.

What are your next steps?

Talk to a profiler. Miss Liehr has studied the case quite well and might be a good help.

Do you mind me giving you company?

Mr. Walkowski, I like that you are interessed in the case, but that is the work for the detectives, not the sergeants. But I will keep you updated, as that case is important for all of us.

5324wetrsgdfv

Soon after, Frank meets with Petra Liehr.

HiResPhoto5676_1,920-1,080

Frank, I am sorry for your losses. I should have seen this escape coming. Anyway, you wanted some information on him, correct?

Yes. One of my officers died now as well observing the lawyer, but, I have no proof. The divers are searching for the car, but we don´t know where exactly it happened. This can take weeks. What would Kramer do now? Does he have a place he is sentimental about?

Well, the psychopath does not care about humans at all. The only thing he can like are material possessings, like the vintage car collection that his publisher bought for him from his books income.

Wait, his publisher… managed his affairs? I thought it would all be in the hands of his lawyer.

The detailed file report is available for the LKA only, not a normal police station. Ursula Vetter is the cousin of Dr. Schubart and was almost bankrupt until the lawyer told his client to work together with her for the book project, so she definitely owes him something.

Wait, the publisher and the lawyer are related?

That´s why I responded so fast to your meeting request, since it might be helpful for you. Anything else that I can do for you?

Yes, indeed… as a psychatrist, could you please look after Sarah? I think she is in a very bad state after all what happened. Boehme sent her home, and when I checked last she was drunk and destroyed her furniture.

Sure, I will try. Good luck, Frank.

HiResPhoto5678_1,920-1,080
3421rewqfdsa

Not soon after, Frank arrives at the office of Ursula Vetter.

HiResPhoto5723_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5724_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5725_1,920-1,080

Frank interrogates Vetter and uses a little lie: He said that Dr. Schubart has been arrested for the assasination of KOM Behrendt, and for a lesser time in jail, told everything about his cooperation with his cousin. In panic, Vetter runs away onto the rooftop.

5342trewfsavcx
HiResPhoto5726_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5727_1,920-1,080

To Franks surprise, Vetter jumps off the roof, but lands relatively soft on a truck, then gets onto the street. Frank, totally surprised, needed a few seconds to decide to follow her, taking the same shortcut.

FUCK! FUCK!

But suddenly a black Rigel appears, with a familiar face inside.

INSPECTOR BATIMUS, GET IN!

Walkowski! What are you…Ah, I don´t care, LETS GO!

HiResPhoto5743_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5744_1,920-1,080

Walkowski, where is your uniform and where did you get that undercover car?

That´s a story too long to tell right now. Please make a report, it´s still on the frequency of the drug department, change it for Mamba 12.

HiResPhoto5744_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5746_1,920-1,080

The chase goes on, and Walkowski struggles to keep up with Vetter.

Damn, Walkowski, I already thought Rainer was a dangerous driver. I should confiscate your license on the spot!

Yeah, but then you can´t get back in with me. The engine is still running, nobody seriously injured, lets continue!

HiResPhoto5761_1,920-1,080

Vetter speeds off, but is a bit too reckless, as she runs a red light and cuts off an ACR - the impact causes Vetters Baumhauer to flip.

He, she moves in there. Let´s get her out and locked up until she starts to sing to us.

HiResPhoto5769_1,920-1,080

But the fuel tank got damaged and leaks gasoline, and just when the two cops were ready to get her out of the wreck, the car exploded with a fireball…

HiResPhoto5770_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5771_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5773_1,920-1,080

At the same time, profiler Petra Liehr tries to help Sarah.

No, no, no! I failed! I allowed Kramer to hold me hostage, and then, when Rainer was shot, I ran like a coward!

Inspector Maier, if you decided to stay, Rainers sacrifice would have been useless. Kramer would have killed you as well as soon as he had no more use for you.

I guess you have to say this in order to make me feel better, but I know the truth, and so do you.

No, I am serious. You did well in that situation, and tried to act as good as possible under the circumstances. You could not do anything for chief inspector Sordel anymore, and it would have been dumb to throw your life away by watching his last words. When he died, he knew he was successful, when he saw your escaping. I have worked a few times with him, and I knew him good enough to be sure of what I just told you.

2443rwfdse

A bit later, Frank and Jakob, no, Harald Walkowski search for documents in the office of Ursula Vetter.

So, to get it right, Kramer killed your wife years ago, and when your brother was transferred to my department, he followed me to give you information and the chance for a vendetta? That would cost both of you the badge.

Batimus! He is my brother, brothers do that for each other. I take full responsibiltiy, but spare him. Kramer killed your partner, and I was hoping you do for your partner what I would do for mine - doing justice. It was definitely more promising to follow your steps than those of the homicide unit.

That is Boehmes descision, not mine. So far, I can understand your motivation, but the police is an organization with rules and structures for a reason. I will recommend Boehme to keep your brother in serivce, but this is all I can do.

This is more than I can ask for.

Look at that, Walkowski. A transport offer for cars from … Hegerstedt to Porta Minta, the paradise without extradition treaty…

Hm, what cars? OH! Quite nice ones, especially the DCMW…

This is my chance, the profiler said that for Kramer, his cars are the kryptonite. He will be there, I am sure.

You mean, our chance?

NO WAY! You did enough bullshit by now. If you want to keep your job, I would suggest you somehow explain the wreck of the car to your boss as help to the highway patrol in imminent danger.

Batimus, don´t be a stubborn donkey. You know as good as me how dangerous Kramer is. You need a partner out there.

NOT YOU! You are reckless, you are led by emotions, you give a fuck on rules… eh yes, follow me then!

rtwfsdvcxy

Two hours later, Batimus and Walkowski arrive at the adress, and have a conversation before entering.

HiResPhoto5785_1,920-1,080

OK, so, neither you or me are in charge for this. Either we succeed or hand out our badges together.

I am looking foward to both, as long as we tried our best.

Fine then. One thing, Kriminalhauptmeister. I am the superior, and I will be giving the orders here. If you can not respect this, there is the door handle.

If this is needed…

It is. Let´s go.

HiResPhoto5780_1,920-1,080

Kramer is indeed in the shed, but notices that he has no firearm. Angry abot the fact that he can not shoot the cops instantly, he looks for an escape possibility that lets him leave unnoticed.

HiResPhoto5783_1,920-1,080

Look, Batimus, a DCMW Shariallat Supermacy Twelve. What a beauty. Even the key is in the ignition. May I start the engine?

NO! We are looking for Kramer, not cars.

Well, he is obviously not here, but maybe we can find a trace of him, or something that helps us finding one.

HiResPhoto5781_1,920-1,080

In that moment, Kramer escapes through the window, knowing a truck is parked outside with some cardboard loaded onto the bed, and he runs as fast as he can to the BetterDeals parked outside, also with key ready for the transport company to pick it up for the next day.

DID YOU HEAR THAT, BATIMUS? I THOUGHT YOU CHECKED PROPERLY?

RUN! What are you doing?

Taking the DCMW, we have a better chance with two cars?

IDIOT! Ah, fuck it, then I am getting Kramer solo, I DONT CARE!

HiResPhoto5790_1,920-1,080

Frank reverses and speeds away, following Kramer, Harald Walkowski follows briefly after, as the twelve cylinders needed a few moments to fire up.

HiResPhoto5791_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5792_1,920-1,080

Mamba 12-2 to Mamba! In pursuit of mass murderer Erwin Kramer. He tries to join the A2! I need a roadblock. Holtmann, Walkowski, did you follow my instructions?

Of course, inspector. He won´t join the A2, that´s for sure.

All right. Walkowski, tell your damn brother that he needs to learn team work!

HiResPhoto5793_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5794_1,920-1,080

Indeed the access is blocked, so Kramer evades the uniformed officers and tries to find another way onto the highway.

HiResPhoto5795_1,920-1,080
HiResPhoto5796_1,920-1,080

And he does - by merging onto the highway in the false direction, directly into oncoming traffic! Despite hesitating for a second, Frank is determined to get the assassin of his partner at all cost and follows.

Frank and Harry can watch the accident from far away, and are relieved that the chase is over.

Shit. Walkowski, we were too slow. The next dead person because of him…

The truck driver is your business, you are the highway patrol.

You have a bad sense of humor, Walkowski.

I know.

HiResPhoto5842_1,920-1,080

Something is weird, Walkowski. I should be relieved that Kramer finally got what he deserved, but… I am not. I don´t feel any better.

Sure, because he didnt get what he deserved. That exit was waaaaay too easy and fast.

HiResPhoto5843_1,920-1,080

The next week, Frank is back at the department and withnesses Kriminaloberrat Boehme packing his stuff into boxes.

Boss, what is going on?

Someone has to take responsibility. Three of my men died, and one of them a chief inspector that had to give his life to a colleague that is now forced to live with this for the rest of her life.

Boss, nobody could have expected such a spectecular escape…

It is about responsibility. The helm crashes the ship and it sinks? The captain stays on board. Or leaves, in this case. I am retiring early, and there is nothing that can change my mind. Well, one last thing. I am not sure if Sarah wants to stay, and you need a partner. I have a few files of good inspectors here.

What happened to the Walkowskis?

Jakob can stay, as you said. Blood is thicker than water. And Harald was suspended, it does not look good.

Hm, I think we should improve the statistics and have one unemployed cop less.

Are you sure about that? His record is bad.

Not a single bit. But the man is brave, and he is tough enough. I guess if you promote him to inspector, we might get someone who works like Rainer and can be equally successful.

S04E01: Hot Love, Cold Plan

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show, including swearing, political incorrectness (to a certain degree, of course) and the violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

In a cold february night, a dark Cavaliere drives away, followed by an Authié et Dallier, and at first, the driver does not suspect anything.

The A&D followes unnoticed over dark and lonely country roads, but whenever the driver tries an attempt to start something, another car appears in oncoming traffic… he is clearly up to something.

Finally, the blue Cavaliere Nobile Cesare turns onto the A10 outer city ring, still followed by the other car.

Then it happens: The driver of the A&D speeds up, and does an impressive and reckless pit maneuver, immediately spinning the opponent.

The attacking driver stops and watches his work, the crashed Cavaliere now catches fire. Seeing the plan working, the attacker quickly speeds off.

At the same time, an ACR appears at the scene, just in time to watch the A&D speeding off and remembering the license plate. The driver tries to help the unconscious man in the Cavaliere, but it is too late. He at least could call the cops.

Hello, police? This is Ulf Schelling calling from the A10. I have to report a crime! And I have the plate number!

An hour later, Harald Walkowski appears at the crime scene, and not being in a really good mood.

JAKOB! WHY ARE YOU CALLING YOUR BROTHER OUT OF BED AT 3 AM FOR A FUCKING TRAFFIC ACCIDENT? IT IS AS COLD AS IN THE BATTLE OF KRONGRAD!

Hey, Harald, calm down. This is no usual accident, this was a crime, so you are in charge and Frank did not answer the phone.

Propably too drunk since he is jealous on that guy dating Sarah. And Sarah is busy fucking the dude she is dating. Oh, what a wonderful world. So, what makes this a crime?

A businessman watched it happening, a large sedan has purposedly rammed this car and made it flip and explode. He claims it was an ice-cold professional, and that he has seen such a keen move only in television yet, in Notruf 110.

I do not get the excitement for this garbage, especially since I have to see it in real life. So, a murder then? Show me the wreck.

Well, I guess that poor guy won´t be identified anytime soon by the coroner. But as soon as the wreck has cooled down, we might get the chassis number. Look it up in the register then and put it on my desk. HOLTMANN! CALL THE KTU TO TOW IT! Jakob, you can check the plate that this withness gave you.

And what are you doing then, Harry?

Waking up Frank. If the driver is aware of being seen, he will try to wipe out all traces as fast as possible, and we must be faster.

Later, in the office:

Frank, I got all information we need. The dark blue Cavaliere was registrated on Martin Mierendorff, owner of a shady model agency. The Authié et Dallier belongs to René Bollmann, a lawyer. I guess we split up and…

NO SPLITTING UP! We need to get the A&D as soon as possible as evidence before it becomes destroyed! ADRESS NOW!

Frank speeds away to the adress, but Bollmann is not there. From his neighbours they hear that he was angry about finding his car damaged on the parking lot and then called a taxi.

Frank, that´s not the kind of action you do when you used your car for ramming last night.

True, but let us first secure the evidence, then make theories.

With the hint of the neighbours where the rented parking space is, Frank rushes to it, hoping to still find the car.

Look, Harry! DARK BLUE PAINT SCRATCHES! Get us the criminal technicians, I want fingerprints, hairs, everything. Mamba 12-2 to Mamba, send a patrol car to take possession of evidence, a car used in a murder. Location is upper parking deck at Loewestraße 106.

Where are we heading, Frank?

Interrogating Bollmann of course. If it was not him, he might have a clue who could have stolen his car.

Frank interrogates Bollmann in his office, and Bollmann immediately denies having driven the car in the night.

I just thought it was just hit there.

So, why did you not call the police then? I have no report about your car being stolen and damaged.

It could as well been a harmless hit and run, and I had an urgent appointment in court.

COME ON! That damage is not what happens on a parking lot at standstill. The whole front chassis is warped, and a man died. Martin Mierendorff, do you know him? And, do you have an alibi?

Martin Mierendorff, you said? Yes, I have an alibi but I would prefer to keep it private unless I am under arrest.

YOU WILL WALK OUT OF HERE IN HANDCUFFS WITHOUT ALIBI! You want to tell me that a totalled car is a minor hit and run, and you reacted a bit weird at the name of the victim. That´s enough for me already to try it with an arrest warrant.

Well, I spent the night with Regina Mierendorff.

Wait… is that…

Yes, the widow of the man that was killed, unfortunately.

YOU MUST BE JOKING!

As next step, Frank and Harry visit Regina Mierendorff at home.

So, the suspect who owns the ramming car slept with the wife of the victim?

Yes, it is again such a mess of a case. This stinks a lot. Anyway… let´s ring.

Frank, does that house have a bigger backdoor? Not even Sarah would fit through that narrow door frame.

It´s the entrance for the models that Mierendorff casted here.

WHAT? And you tell me that case is the thing that stinks the most here…

Actually Harry, it is your shoes, because you just stepped in dogshit. DONT YOU DARE TO RUIN MY FLOOR MATS WITH THAT! The car is brand new!

Quite a lot of money, Mrs. Mierendorff.

In our business, we… have a lot of possibilities. You are not looking that bad either, inspector Bastion.

Batimus. Anyway, I guess your husband had many enemies then.

Of course… Success raises jealousy. Still, he was a tyrant, and I secretly took a lawyer for a possible divorce… his name is René Bollmann.

Tell me more. How is he now fitting into that puzzle?

He told me he wants to spare me the painful divorce, and promised me to … well, solve the problem out of court for me.

What?

With that testimony, Frank and Harry arrest René Bollmann.

So, that was a case solved really fast, a bit too fast if you ask me.

Indeed, Harry, indeed. Something stinks.

And it is not my shoes this time. So, you believe Bollmann?

A man that intelligent would not use his own car and then just park it back where it belongs. Yes, he might thought that he would be covered by Mrs. Mierendorff and did not expect the backstabbing, but still…

In the night, Walkowski is once again woken up by the department, and drives to a diner restaurant…

So, what is it this late, madam?

Call me Susy. So, I read the newspaper.

We all do sometimes, nothing worth confessing to the police…

My boyfriend cheats me, and to have proof, I followed him. And I saw him stealing an Audi et Daimler…

A what?

The car that was used in the attack on the A10 last night. There was an example picture of the model and he definitely stole that in a parking garage… Loewestraße. Sadly I ran out of gas and could not follow him, but I guess he drove to his bitch.

Loewestraße? Thanks, that is helpful indeed. So, tell me about your boyfriend then.

Ex-boyfriend. I don´t want unfaithful criminals anymore.

Your parents should be proud now. Anyway, I am listening…

The next morning Frank and Harry meet at the department, and Frank asked Harry to follow him to the KTU.

So, anything new about that car, or what?

Yes. I checked everything, and the paint scratches are definitely from Mierendorffs Cavaliere. But: The seating position is awkward. It definitely does not fit Bollmann. Which means somebody else must have driven it.

And I know who it was.

What?

Get in, we´ll have a chat with the crash driver.

So, you and Sarah have given the information to the press without asking Schneider or at least me?

Was it helpful or not?

That is not the point. Anyway, yes, it was helpful.

Who is our suspect?

Kevin Remmel. Previously convicted with insurance fraud from faked car crashes. Amateur stock car derby driver. Earns his money as stuntman.

Definitely someone with the skill needed to sent Martin Mierendorff to hell with one single ramming.

Hey Remmel, busy practicing for your next scam?

Who are you bastard? Come here, I will stuff your mouth.

Hey gorilla, can you read this?

A badge? Inspector… Walkowski… ah, cops, are you bored again? What does the highway patrol do on lonely country roads? Are you too dumb to read roadmaps and want me to show you the way back?

Remmel, I am here for showing you the way to jail. You stole a car and killed Martin Mierendorff with quite a keen ramming maneuver. Really, you did impressive work there. Too bad you were seen doing it.

I have an alibi, so fuck off. I can give you all the names you need, I was practicing some stunt driving on backroads together with a few friends.

In the evening, in the office, Kriminaloberkommissar Frank Batimus discusses with Kriminalrat Bernd Schneider, his superior officer.

No way, Mr. Batimus. The alibi is waterproof.

YES, BECAUSE THE TWO GUYS WERE INVOLVED IN REMMELS SCAMS. Professional criminals, come on, they lie.

A jealous ex is also not too credible.

But according to Harry she could name the exact spot where Bollmanns car was stolen, and that detail was NOT given to the press. She is not lying for me.

I see your point, but proving Remmels alibi wrong is an almost impossible task. And the forensics did not find proof that Remmel was in the car, no DNA found. The seating position alone… that is too vague.

Anyway, I have ordered Harry and Sarah for surveillance of the widow and Remmel.

While Remmel just commits a few traffic offenses and otherwise does not do a lot, Mrs. Mierendorff and him finally meet at night, and the two officers finally know what they wanted to find out and have a night snack in Berlau.

Sarah, we were right. I guess they are not meeting just for eating dinner, right?

I suspect they are not, true.

So, what if Mierendorff and Remmel made a conspiracy against Bollmann?

I have an idea how to find out, I just need the right moment for it.

The next day, Sarah is again observing the house of Regina Mierendorff, when suddenly a Turbo Frost delivery truck appears.

STOP, POLICE! Which house are you visiting?

Nr. 35, the Mierendorffs.

PIZZA WITH KEBAP AND PINEAPPLE?

We are not in Frunia, you can not arrest me for that, madam.

Still, its confiscated now. Let me explain it…

Sarah sneaks in as Pizza delivery girl and places a bugging device in the living room. Indeed it is revealed that they have an affair, but not much more. She wants to make him her new business partner.
At the evening update, Captain Schneider is frustrated to not have got more, and is very pissed off about these methods since the bugging is illegal without being approved by a judge, but Frank tells his captain to calm down because he has a plan.

The next day, Remmel is alone in the house, and he rings at the doorbell, doing a keen bluff, and also secretly removing the bugging device, to erease all evidence for his dirty trick.

Inspector dressman! Are you bored, or should I teach you driving?

Where is Mrs. Mierendorff?

I don´t know. I am just here for … eeh, fixing the washing machine.

I can tell you where your affair is. She is right now visiting René Bollmann in prison, right after I left. You know what? Bollmann told me that Regina wants to give you 50 percent of the model agency, but thinks that a… sorry… man with his brain in the upper arms might not be suiting the task. Bollmann as a lawyer, yes, he has not your quality in bed, but he is smart. The love carousel of Regina Mierendorff rotates again, but not in your favour. They now make a plan to get Bollmann out of prison, and you in.

BULLSHIT!

If I was you, I would cooperate with the police before it is too late. Ask yourself: How would I know if that what I said wasn´t true?

OUT!

As you like… should I take the trash out, too?

But the events took a dangerous turn: When Mrs. Mierendorff returned, Remmel confronted her, and a heated argument started, in which Remmel pushed his affair down the stairs, and Regina Mierendorff died from a broken neck immediately. The neighbours reported it, and Frank and Harry respond as they are nearby, since Frank suspected that something MIGHT go wrong…

HARRY! BACK OFF! This will be an amok drive, he has nothing to lose anymore, and he is a fucking derby racer.

So what? It would not have happened if you did not do your dirty tricks. Since your partner has died, not only Sarah is completely bonkers but you too!

WHAT?

Yes, it feels to me that you really want to prove that you are now a worthy number one, which you are, but you push it too far.

Now you push it too far by making this maniac drive like the devil himself. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

THAT IS HOW IT IS MADE, REMMEL!

He won´t stop.

He has to.

But with his huge Nonozo Admiral 4.0 V8 4x4 truck, Remmel has a true weapon in these road conditions, and does what he can do best: Ramming.

SO MUCH FOR HE HAS TO STOP!

He won´t beat me, Frank, that´s for sure!

HARRY! THIS IS NOT A BANGER RACE! Shit, he is causing a mayhem here. Break off pursuit and I call a helicopter now.

Frank, if you act obsessed with your job, I can show you the mirror. That guy is my booty. Like you could not accept Mierendorff and Remmel getting away with a crime, I can not let him do an amok drive right into Berlau.

NOW! FRANK, ATTENTION!

OOOOOH CRAAAAAAAAAAAP!

The following Anhultz evades into the guardrail, but still gets hit by the Nonozo that then flips over the guardrail, skidding down the cliff until stopped by a rock. When Frank and Harry run to the scene to get Remmel out of the wreck, it explodes…

SHIT! HARRY, THAT WAS WHAT I MEANT WITH I SHOULD CALL A HELICOPTER!

Sorry, I was just mad at you risking the life of Mrs. Mierendorff for the case, even if she was a bad bitch, I don´t think that this was correct. I didn´t plan to kill Remmel in the chase.

NEITHER DID I WANT THE DEATH OF MIERENDORFF, DAMN! Well, at least, Harry, you are a damn good stock car driver. But I guess this won´t give you a praise from Schneider. THE CAR IS TOTALLED!

In my defense, I didn´t like the grey cloth interior anyway. It was getting really filthy in this weather.

HARRY!

Let´s just pretend this is a TV cop show and the car we used was prototype that had to be scrapped anyway, ok?

Please just stop. Something still feels wrong in this case, I must have overlooked a detail.

Frank, Mierendorff had an affair with Bollmann and Remmel, and sacrificed Bollmann to get rid of the boring lover and the tyrannic husband at once. The case is solved.

TWO DAYS LATER

Sarah, when is Bollmann released again?

5 Minutes ago, it´s 13:05.

Crap. But getting the theory waterproof took me longer than I thought.

GOOD! He is still getting into the taxi. That´s what I call luck.

Inspector Batimus! You wanted to apologize for false accusation? Or drive me home? I already got a taxi, but I look foward to hearing your apology.

It really looks if I owe you one, right? And I really thought, damn, you have been played really dirty. But do you know what bothered me a lot in this case?

You being wrong for arresting me? It happens to the best, don´t worry.

No. I asked myself, how would an upper-class lady like Regina Mierrendorf get together with a berserk like Kevin Remmel? I mean, her having a well-mannered lawyer as lover, that is easy to get, but Remmel… This did not leave me in peace, and then I started digging up the old dusty files. You defended the car expert Edgar Klevicz in 1992 for insurance fraud. And then, guess who was one of his partners in crime?

I have no idea, this was too long ago.

Kevin Remmel. Still, this might not be enough for making you look suspicious. But, what if you indeed did remember Remmel as capable crash driver, and made the perfect plan to get rid of Martin Mierendorff? You have an alibi while your car is used for a crash, and nobody would suspect Remmel as total stranger. But Remmel followed his own interests: At a meetup to develop a plan, Mrs. Mierendorff and he fell in love with each other, and your good plan became the absolutely perfect plan: They smoothly did it with you as perfect scapegoat.

A very absurd theory, Mr. Batimus.

I think it makes perfect sense. Mr. Bollmann, you can unload your bag again. I hereby arrest you for incitement of murder.

NOT WITH ME!

Bollmann knocks down the taxi driver and steals the vehicle, and Frank was a second too slow to get grip of Bollmann in the driver seat.

FRANK! Stop jogging and get in!

Sarah, switch over, I will…

NO YOU WON´T! I WANT TO DRIVE!

Don´t trash the car, it is brand new and Schneider is already VERY pissed about Harrys…

Why didn´t you just take the keys out of the taxi?

Sarah, I had to improvise that arrest really fast. Mamba 12-2 to Mamba, in pursuit of a Yamaguchi Zen taxi heading from Berlau to Dehlitz via Vinthaler Chaussee. Please block the A2 there.

Frank, that block is already there.

How that?

They demolish the old fragile bridge on the A2. The whole highway is blocked since this will be a MASSIVE detonation.

So, the road will be a dead end?

Exactly.

So much for your dead end, Frank, he does not seem to slow down.

THAT MAN MUST BE TOTALLY OUT OF HIS MIND… Fuck, or unaware of the demolishing of the bridge. MAMBA 12-2 TO MAMBA, WHEN IS THE DETONATION?

SARAH! HEAD DOWN! THE POLE!

AAAAAAAHH!

FUCK THAT WAS CLOSE!

Damn, I thought that it would impale you…

Mamba 12 to Mamba 12-2, Frank, are you still alive?

I am. So, when is the detonation?

In two minutes and 34 seconds. 33. 32. SO GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE. I try my best to get the guy at the red button on the line to stop it, but that might fail.

Roger, Holtmann.

Sarah, you heard him, stop the car.

No way I am breaking off a pursuit. We have the faster car, we almost have him.

SARAH, THIS IS AN ORDER!

Frank, in two minutes whatever we have already passed the bridge at that speed. It will detonate behind us, it is even already in sight. We will have passed it in a minute.

Nonononono, STOP, SARAH, STOP!

You see the bridge? He´ll make it, and so will we.

Sarah, since Rainer died you are on one suicide action after the other, and you barely escaped death with severe injuries. PLEASE SEE YOUR THERAPIST! I don´t want to lose you as well, AND RIGHT NOW I ALSO DO NOT WANT TO LOSE MY OWN LIFE AS WELL!

Are you scared, Frank?

FUCK YES AND NOW STOP!

Me too. It is my fault that Rainer is dead, but I don´t want to kill you as well.

Thanks, Sarah… For a second, I thought you would really kill us.

I wouldn´t. See? He now passes the bridge and everything is fine. So much for…

BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM

Frank… I take everything back… I am so happy that I listened to your advice…

GUESS HOW HAPPY I AM ABOUT THAT???

Frank, can I ask you one thing?

You already did with this question, but proceed.

I guess Rainer had the same chance of getting killed like we did now, yet he went in to rescue me and paid with his life. Did he know the risk?

He absolutely did, and he knew it was worth it. He felt it by heart, just like you now felt that the risk wasn´t worth it. And both Rainer and you were right in the situations you faced.

S04E04: Risky Jealousy

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show, including swearing, political incorrectness (to a certain degree, of course) and the violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

The teacher Dörte Beck is eating some fish burger at a highwayside restaurant, then proceeds her journey - in the summer holidays, she planned to visit her sister in Ungenstadt.

Nothing seems wrong, and the ACR heads towards the A2 to Teberau.

Frank and Harald are on patrol in that direction, discussing a bit.

Harry, you didn´t total your car since February. I can´t believe it.

Well, I like this one. Cozy leather like yours, a nice Turbodiesel with a manual, heated seats… although I prefer a seat cooling in this weather. But the color is odd, what is this called, pensioner beige?

Champagner silver.

Yes, I really need to get drunk with some of that to… HEEEEYYYYYYYY!!!

Do I dream or did that blue ACR knock your mirror off?

IT DID! FRANK, LET´S GET THAT IDIOT!

The ACR Lanea continues some weird driving and approaches a bunch of cars in front, with the cops directly after it.

HARRY! Don´t risk the car! Mamba 12-3 to Mamba 12. In pursuit of a blue ACR Lanea, registration Berlau-Theodor-Zacharias-3449. Car speeds and the driver is barely in control. Postion A2 eastbound, at the exit Petermühle.

NOBODY JUST KNOCKS OFF MY MIRROR!

If you continue like that the car you finally like won´t survive any longer.

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba 12-6, please confirm. We are directly behind you.

The ACR crashes into a Saarland that has nowehere to go to evade being hit, and the old coupe spins into an Anhultz.

A Globus driver following is unable to swerve since the right lane is occupied by Harrys Primus, and despite an emergency stop the van still rams the Anhultz, while Harald escapes the crash by scraping the guardrail. But the uniformed backup, consisting of Jakob Walkowski and Uwe Holtmann, is held up by the way being blocked.

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba 12-6, please respond. Crash directly in front of us, the road is blocked. We will need a few minutes until we can continue the pursuit, over.

Meanwhile, the dangerous driving of the ACR continues, this time hitting a Yamaguchi and throwing it into a Martinet.

A Baumhauer and the Primus of the cops are now in trouble, and while Harald decides to try the right side to avoid the mess, the Baumhauer goes left and takes off into the air by hitting the guardrail, while the space for Harald was not large enough to not hit the Martinet.

HARRY! I TOLD YOU SO!

FUCK! NOW YOU ARE DUE, YOU MANIAC!

What are you doing?

That maniac goes straight now for a second, let´s see what bastard is behind the wheel.

I can´t believe it, a grey haired phillistine lady. DONT YOU HEAR THAT HONKING AND THAT SIREN? STOP YOU B…

Harry, IT HAS NO USE! DONT YOU SEE THAT SHE IS UNCONSCIOUS?

FUCK! Frank, what are you doing?

I am jumping over there. With the metal lock of the seatbelt I might have a hammer for the windscreen.

Fuck you, I don´t want a new partner, stay alive and let me handle the situation.

Plenty of space there and some light barrieres… NOW OR NEVER!

HARRY!

The ambulance that arrived soon could identify a fish poisoning as cause of Mrs. Becks crash drive - Frank sends Sarah to the highway restaurant to confiscate the fish and interrogate the cook.

No blackmailing, no threats… it seems like the big case Frank was looking for does not exist, and it must have a non-criminal cause - while the fish is investigated by the laboratory, Sarah can not find a serious hygiene violation in the kitchen and gets the adress of the supplier.

When leaving the restaurant, she spots a car she knows well: The Saberin Soaura of her boyfriend Klaus Kasupke, who told her that he is on a training in Zeilwies. A jealous Sarah immediately speeds off, chasing the …obtrusive… car of Klaus.

Klaus Kasupke, an experienced cop, of course notices that his girlfriend follows him, which might also be helped by the fact that Sarahs car is not much less weird than his own one…

Kasupke then increases speed until both cars are way above the speed limit, but Sarahs inferior Primus can keep up with the Saberin, then brakes hard from the left lane and drifts towards the exit, while Sarah needs to continue straight ahead before being able to reverse on the hard shoulder - and Klaus is gone.

So, the fish is really inedible?

It has just been confirmed. I sent your brother and Holtmann to the supplier, Lebensmittel Lembke KG. I will join them if they find something. Harry, you better confess to Schneider that you need another car.

In the meantime, Sarah tracks Klaus phone - it is indeed in Berlau, in the industrial area. Sarah is angry and determined to confront her boyfriend with his lie - and speeds off and almost runs over Harry.

Here you are, you fucking liar… Let´s see if you are inside there…

Unknown to Sarah, Klaus is deep undercover, infiltrating a notorious gang involved in drug trafficking and arms smuggling, and it was a top secret duty that not even the own colleagues should be told about, and as a professional Klaus obeyed and also didn´t inform Sarah. The problem is that Sarahs anger outburst when confronting her boyfriend was loud, and it attracted gangsters, Klaus tries to tell the gangsters that Sarah was just a thief trying to steal something in the warehouse, but they still chase her with weaponfire.

Sarah manages to get to her car, but is chased by the baddies in a Nordwagen with superior performance…

Mihail, are you ready?

Yes, boss. What car is it?

Barbie pink Merit hatchback, if you can´t hit that thing, you must be colorblind.

The tire burst ended in a loose rear, and Sarah spins into a heavy container that flips her car. There is no escape now - the gangsters take her hostage.

No thief! We got her, and in her purse was a badge. Inspector Sarah Maier, highway patrol. What the fuck does the highway patrol do here? Vitaly, I TOLD YOU TO NOT SPEED!

I DIDNT! REALLY!

STOP ARGUING! I think this is an undercover operation, I would never have guessed that this punk lady is a cop, so Frieders guess might have been a good one. Anyway, we should change the location. Frieder, get your Saberin and load the documents, we will take the lady into the van with the firearms, if we shoot her here, half of Berlaus police is after us.

Meanwhile, Jakob and Uwe checked the truck that delivered the fish, and the case is urgent after other people were affected as well with a poisoning, and always was it Lebensmittel Lembke who delivered the fish.
A faulty compressor that sometimes worked, sometimes didn´t, so that the issue was hard to notice - interrupted the cooling chain. No sabotage, no blackmailing, no criminals involved - Frank seems a bit disappointed that this is “just” a weird malfunction and bad luck instead of a new case.

But when he arrived at the department, Harry already waited outside.

FINALLY, FRANK. I was about to drive alone and call you over radio. Sarahs car had a really bad accident in the industrial area at Rudolf-Wiesel-Straße.

WHAT? What was she even doing there, Lembke isn´t even near there. All right, get in!

At the same time, Kasupke leaves with the rest of the gangsters in a convoy towards their new location, and he has a gangster in his own car in the backseat, for surveillance, so making a phone call is impossible. He decides to spontaneously turn to the nearest gas station, pretending that he has thirst and also needs to check for a tire as he thinks it´s venting air.

So, what are we going to do with the police woman?

None of your business, Frieder, but I guess we will execute her as soon as we succeeded with our plan B. Securing the assets is more important now, but I guess, this night we will be done and then, goodbye, cop!

Meanwhile Frank speeds towards the location of Sarahs car, but there is nothing he can do to find her - the phone was left in the car.

Holtmann, this is Frank. I need the location of Sarahs phone of the last hour. RIGHT NOW!

Frank, I can´t give you a really exact spot, I can only tell which pole…

DO IT!

They soon find the warehouse, but - the gangsters are gone.

Back in the office, they discuss how Sarah might have gotten into trouble this time again.

I guess she must have withnessed something.

Yes, but she didn´t tell anybody, which is weird. Usually she is reliable giving updates. More than you, Harry.

Hey, she almost ran me over and drove off like King Ronalds has coupons again.

You mean, it was not a coincidence that she was in that area?

Bingo, Frank. Let´s drive back and check again the surroundings.

A few moments later…

HEY, FRANK! Is that a Turbo Frost truck?

Yes, why?

GOOD! I AM HUNGRY!

HARRY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

KRIMINALKOMMISSAR WALKOWSKI, HIGHWAY PATROL! STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE!

What… have I done wrong, inspector?

Nothing yet, but you will commit a serious crime if you let me starve! A pepperoni pizza, NOW!

Harry! I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT! YOU ABUSE YOUR BADGE FOR STEALING PIZZA?

I… acquired it.

AND THE FUCKING THING IS FROZEN! IT´S USELESS FOR NOW! Do you see an oven here?

Yes.

You idiot. I thought we would enter a chase, so I activated the camera. How to get rid of that footage now, Harry? Schneider will kill you for that.

Oh, well, can you get footage from a car that burned down?

HARRY!

Damn cameras, the job was more fun without them. Now I can´t even steal chocolate at the gas station anymore.

WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?

Relax, that was a joke. I don´t steal, I … acquire. Kurwa, all these prejudices against Archaneans.

You remember that gas station … like two minutes away from Sarahs crash site? That looked quite new and maybe has…

Video cameras? All right… but I can´t speed too much otherwise my Pizza will be burned…

HARRY!

Ok, Frank, you get the tapes, I eat my pizza…

I should tell Schneider!

THEN I WON´T LEAVE YOU A PIECE!

I AM NOT EVEN INTERESSED! IT WILL TASTE LIKE EXHAUST GASES AND OIL ANYWAY!

Mmmmmh, dobre!

Soon after, in the office…

So, this is us…and this is you staring in the camera disappointed after your Pizza wasn´t edible… Let´s rewind to… an hour earlier.

Hm… here, Frank.

Good. Eh, what a coincidence.

Hm?

A Saberin Soaura, I bet it´s shit brown. Can you focus on the license plate?

I am not a technican, Frank.

Ah well, he exits anyway. YES! It is Klaus Kasupke. But why is he doing such weird signs with the hand? He hides it from the other guy.

Maybe he`s nervous?

Kasupke and nervous? He would shoot you right now without even sweating. Long finger, short finger, long… is that a morse code?

Ok Frank, I rewind.

S A R A H V A N

What van?

Wasn´t there a van directly behind Kasupke? NOW YOU NEED TO BE A TECHNICAN BECAUSE I NEED THE PLATE!

THIS IS KRIMINALRAT BERND SCHNEIDER! HIGHEST PRIORITY TO ALL UNITS! WE ARE LOOKING FOR A BLACK GLOBUS TRAVELLER, REGISTRATION BERLAU-RICHARD-THEODOR 241!

Mamba 12-6 to Mamba 12, I HAVE HIM RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! INNER CITY RING A11 CLOCKWISE AT EXIT Bauernallee.

Act unsuspicious, this is like 5 minutes from here, Mamba 12-3 will take over with an unmarked vehicle, then turn away as fast as possible.

Mamba 12-3 to Mamba 12, we have now taken over. Should we attempt a stop, captain?

Negative, Frank. Let´s see where they want to go.

But Sarah…

If Sarah is in there, a stop on the inner city ring is a danger to the citizens of Berlau. What if they shoot? I don´t want such a mess right there. Give me updates and we wait for the right moment.

Roger.

After 20 more minutes, the van leaves the A11 for the industrial area again, and heads to a construction site.

What do they want here? Burying the corpse of Sarah?

HARRY! I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR …

Yeah, sorry… Hey, look, he drives right into the sand. What a moron.

Mihail, is everything ready?

Sure. Operation twin is ready.

Good, I start now.

DAMN, WHY DOES HE SPEED IN THE SAND LIKE THAT? He must have noticed us.

No problem Frank, this car got AWD. He can´t escape.

HARRY! MORE DISTANCE AND DONT DRIVE SUCH NARROW CIRCLES! WE ARE EATING OUR OWN DUST THROUGH THE VENTS!

Where is he?

Yeah, great, by crawling into his exhaust and driving in circles we lost visual on the suspect. GREAT!

FRANK! THERE HE IS!

GO GO GO!

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba 12, respond!

Roger.

NOW; FRANK! THAT´S A LONELY BACKROAD, RISK IS LOW!

FINALLY! Roger.

The two cops stop the van, but they just find empty boxes, but no trace of Sarah. They interrogate the driver.

WHERE IS SHE?

Who?

DON`T ACT DUMB, I COULD SHOOT YOU RIGHT NOW! NOBODY WILL ASK QUESTIONS!

Frank, look at the plate, B-RT 231! THAT IS ANOTHER VAN! They fooled us.

I TOLD YOU TO NOT DRIVE LIKE THAT! FUCK!

Eh, cop, you can´t shoot me, then you will never find out where your officer is.

True! BUT I CAN MAKE YOU TALK!

Frank, put the gun down. I have a better idea.

Harry straps the man onto the hood of his car, and tells him to start talking when he got enough of his ride with the “Walkowski Taxi Company”… and starts with roaring engine.

OH, SEE THAT? WHAT A NICE BRIDGE PILLAR. IT WOULD BE A SHAME IF I HIT IT, THE NICE PAINT OF THE BRAND NEW CAR.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

SOOOOO CLOOOOOOOSE! I guess we were lucky!

OH, A LAMPPOST! Let´s see how close I can get without crashing. READY?

FUCK YOOOOUUUUUUU!!!

I count that as yes.

NOKTURNGASSE 6! YOU HEAR ME? THAT LADY IS AT NOKTURNGASSE 6!!!

Frank, you hear that beautiful singing? Lark or… finch?

Propably a swallow, at that high pitch. Stop, Harry.

A SHAME! I was curious what would happen to you if I crashed through these barriers…

THIS WILL COST YOU THE BADGE!

Not if there isn´t anybody left to tell…

Harry! No! And to you, Mr. criminal… for us it´s a transfer, maybe a demotion… for you, it´s prison. You are clearly part of a criminal organization. But guess what? You are free as a bird, as a singing bird, I guess…

What?

Yes, just go and we pretend all this never happened. GET LOST! And if you warn your fellow criminals, I WILL FIND YOU AND THEN WE WILL NOT STOP, COMPRENDE? Harry, let´s inform Schneider.

Captain! If we call the elite forces, this will cause casualties. Especially right in the city center. Sarahs life…

I know that you have feelings for her, I am not blind.

It´s not that!

IT IS! Anyway, yes, we don´t have much time left, I got the information that Kasupke is after the Krailoff gang, and you better don´t mess with them. I have no idea how Sarah got into that undercover operation, but we need to hurry, get Harry and wait for me.

For you?

I was formerly a major in the millitary. You need me out there if you want to survive. NOW DO AS I TOLD YOU! In ten minutes at the parking lot, HURRY!

The trio arrives at the address, and Bernd Schneider shoots the way free, allowing Harry and Frank getting to Sarah and cutting her loose, while Kasupke immediately switches side and challenges the gangster boss, but the criminal mastermind manages to escape, and Kasupke runs after him…

Harry and Frank run outside with their guns, but a truck that has been recently parked not only blocks their sight, but also their and Schneiders car…

The gangster boss already escapes with his Nordwagen, but Kasupke is directly behind him, not willing to let the baddie escape.

KLAUS! STOP! KLAAAAAAUS!

Frank, forget it. Let´s move that truck. I`ll have it started in a second.

How was that with Archaneans and prejudgements?

O ja pierdole, just keep your mouth shut and let me mind my business.

Kasupke chases Artjom Krailoff through Berlau, while Frank and Harry finally got their car free and join, but have no idea where the two other cars are.

Kasupke tortures his Saberin to the limits and Krailoff fails to increase the distance between the two cars, and also drives more and more reckless, and at a gas station he sees his chance, he plans to shoot the gas pumps when Kasupke passes them…

But when Krailoff drove with 120 kph onto the gas station, he didn´t notice that the tanks are refilled and that the tanker trailer is in his way… he slams the brakes but it´s too close.

With a lot of luck, Kasupke skids through the inferno without hitting anything, and brings the burning Saberin to standstill, grabbing a fire extinguisher to save his vehicle.

Since the huge explosion caught the attention of Frank and Harry, they arrive soon after - too late to do anything but telling Kasupke that Sarah is safe now.

The next day, Kasupke and Sarah have a talk.

I couldn´t say anything. This was top secret, super confidential, you know?

You could have trusted me.

You wouldn´t have let me go on that mission.

YES, BECAUSE I DON´T WANT TO THINK, IS HE SURVIVING THIS TIME OR NOT?

Danger is my business, you knew that.

Klaus, I know you are a tough cop and I really like that, I wish I was that good, but what I wasn´t ready for is… you being an ice-cold killing machine. I saw you acting there in your role… I am scared of you.

Sarah, this is just… acting, as you said. ACTING! I am not that man you saw there. This is NOT me. This is what I pretend to be.

Klaus… I need to think about it for a while.

One of the best episodes this far TBH, love it.

S05E01: False Friends

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show and modest violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

Harry, it´s your fault that we have been ordered to do traffic control after you blew up that office building, SO DONT COMPLAIN. Pick one instead.

That yellow Znopresk. I mean, come on, a piss yellow car? Only psychopaths drive that.

Can you take our job a bit more serious?

I am serious. Yellow cars are suspicious unless it is a taxi.

HEY! HEEEY! STOP!

HARRY! ARE YOU OK?

Yes, fuck, let´s grab that moron!

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba 12, please respond. In pursuit of a yellow Znopresk Zenit, he ran us over at a traffic stop attempt.

He ran ME over, Frank!

All units, he is now merging from the A10 outer city ring to the A11 inner ring.

Frank, we created an artificial traffic jam at the exit Eberberg. He must leave one exit earlier to avoid getting stuck in there. Holtmann and Walkowski have prepared something behind the corner at Forellenufer.

Brat, it´s all pepared.

Dobre, grab some popcorn.

Indeed does the fugitive leave the highway to avoid the traffic jam, and now the cars approach the corner behind which the surprise is waiting…

OH NO! HE TAKES THE RAMP DOWN TO THE RIVERBED!

Stop, Harry, STOP! This ramp is way too slippery, STOP!

FUCK!

Franks idea was right, since the Znopresk skids uncontrollably and dives into the ice-cold river…

Crap, Harry, let´s pull him out before he freezes to death!

HE RAN ME OVER!

Yes, but this is our life, to serve and protect.

More to starve and neglect at that salary.

MORON! Why did you run my partner over if you had nothing to hide?

How can I know you are real cops and not the gangsters pretending to be?

Can you read that badge?

How if you didnt show me it?

BECAUSE YOU DIDN´T GIVE US ANY CHANCE TO DO SO! You are arrested.

But, Frank, you must admit he had a valid point. READ THE HEADLINES IN THE PRESS! WILDWEST ON HETVESIAN HIGHWAYS! WHO IS CAT AND MOUSE IN THE HUNT BETWEEN REAL AND FAKE COPS? The press is mocking us, and this morning you finally have the result!

But…

No but, Frank. Where are results?

We know that the fake cops changed the car, since we found the Saarland they used burned out in an industrial area. So we must look for another car model now, I am afraid.

Frank! I want results. As Kriminaloberkommissar you are leading the investigation team, and I do not want to wait with arrests until every single traffic stop escalates because nobody trusts blue light anymore!

Meanwhile, at a garage in east Berlau…

Let´s go! I got us a new ride, as the boss said, with AWD system, a pleasure in these weather conditions.

Isn´t the color a bit too suspicious?

They are still looking for a Saarland.

A bit later:

I was told that it´s a black Primus Imperator in about half an hour. Guy carries a lot of cash with him.

It´s an Imperator driver, what do you expect?

Well, let´s hope he didnt spend all the cash for that vehicle.

THERE HE IS!

Ok, Arnie, let´s go!

The Imperator stops on the hard shoulder as ordered to, and a businessman exits the car.

Good morning, what´s the matter? I have my license and registration right he…OUCH!

BODO, CHECK THE CAR! TRUNK, BACKSEAT! I take the wallet!

Got it! A suitcase with stock market shares!

Plenty of cash in the wallet too, let´s put that wallet back and spare him at the stress of getting new documents and leave him 10 Mark for some ice against his headache when he wakes up. HURRY!

Later…

Any news, Sarah?

Yes, a Primus driver, robbed on the A2. He said the car was a Baumhauer 3, but couldn´t remember the registration.

Crap, again such a generic car that is also used by the police as civillian vehicle.

Well, he said it has a weird eggplant color and was a V6, he heard the engine roaring when he woke up again, but… well, he still had double vision and was too dizzy to get the plate.

That is better than nothing. Eggplant Baumhauer 328 Vier, that can´t be too many in our region.

So, as you can all see, the fake police officers stole their rides between Berlau and Teberau. The Anhultz here, the Saarland there, and the next Saarland here. Now, within a 50 kilometer radus from the center of all the locations, we have 19 Baumhauer 328 Vier in Aubergine Metallic. Frank and me will take number 1 to 6, Sarah, you do 7 to 10, Uwe, you do 11 to 15, and Jakob, 16 to 19.

Number 1, Dr. Erhard Noether, unsuspicious. Car is there, and his security cam proves it didn´t move the whole day.

Nr. 7, Mathilde von Osterlitz, the neighbours confirmed the car was there all the time.

Nr. 11, Gerold Freiherr von Meden, he also has security cameras showing that at the time of the robbery, his car was unused.

Nr. 16, Willibald Gentsch, he was at the supermarket with the car, the cashier confirmed that, and he has a reciept.

Nr. 2, Ludger Hinrich. nobody is home. We can´t see the car, it might be on the property, but we can´t climb over there as the fence has some barbed wire.

HARRY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Knocking a bit louder at the door!

Yeah, fine. No Baumhauer. And now?

You see, the neighbours that didn´t open are now pulling aside their window curtains and will surely get out to see what is going on. Now let´s get pen and paper to note down their information.

In the evening, Schneider calls Walkowski in his office.

HARALD WALKOWSKI! I can´t recall that you asked for a search warrant.

You said yourself the case has highest priority, you want them at all cost.

That does not include a damaged car and gate!

Boss, it jumped right in front of my car, there was nothing I could do.

ENOUGH! Do you finally have results?

Yes! According to the neighbours, the Hinrichs are on vacation. By plane. A taxi brought them to the airport. So, it is very likely that their car has been stolen. The registration is B-SU 339 and we´ll have it on the search list for tomorrow.

The next morning, a man calls from his apartment.

Arnie? Can you pick me up? My wife has the car, as you know, my daughters therapy, and she needs…

Say no more, I am there in 15 minutes.

A bit later, Sarah struggles to start her car.

Crap, Frunian cars are really not made for Hetvesian winters. I guess I need to call a taxi now, CRAP!

But also she sees a neighbour getting picked up in a eggplant colored Baumhauer 3, but she is too focussed on calling road assistance, and when she noticed that the car could be suspicious, it was already gone before she could focus on the plate.

An hour later, the Baumhauer takes off at the usual watch spot, possibly having the next target.

Indeed, a courier driver is the next one to encounter the false officers on the A2, and follows them to an abandoned corner of the next highway rest area…

Frank, what are we doing here?

All robberies happened on the A2 between Berlau and Teberau, and at a similar location. So, how do they pick their victims?

They encounter them on the highway.

No, in my opinion, they must observe the highway from a fitting location, and then merge onto it when they see their target passing. I already checked some bridges in the night, and now we continue here.

This is useless, Frank.

It is not! Look, an empty cigarette box… and some smoked up cigarettes of the same brand. What does this tell us?

People can´t put their trash where it belongs.

Harry! Someone waited here for a long time, long enough to smoke 5 cigarettes. Like waiting for…

A car to rob, I get it. So, you want to collect the waste and send it to the science lab for DNA?

Absolutely. Give me gloves and a bag.

A bit later, the fake cops meet with their boss.

I am curious, what´s in there? We could barely fit that stuff in our car, and it´s heavy.

NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! Look, I give you the tips, you get me the stuff, it´s perfect, isn´t it?

Any more jobs for today?

No, I need to get rid of this first, I will call you tomorrow morning.

Frank is already on his way to the next job, as Sarah called him in.

I am there in like, eh, two minutes. Harry is still at the laboratory, I`ll update you later on this. Please send the driver to the office, we need his testimony.

So, what can you tell me?

This time it´s a big one, Frank. The courier transported weapon prototypes for the military.

WHAT?

I guess they professionalized. The more robberies, the more valuable the loot becomes.

How many robberies do we have actually?

THIRTY FOUR? Crap. Schneider is right, we need to do something against this.

In the office, Sarah remembers what she saw in the morning.

Frank, I saw something this morning that might be interessing.

Proceed.

My neighbour, Bodo Riemelt… he got picked up by an eggplant colored Baumhauer like we are looking for.

So?

All owners we checked were more or less wealthy. And, well, you know my adress. I live in the poorest part of Berlau. None of them would visit him I guess, maybe except for the one that stole the car from Ludger Hinrich, sadly, I wasn´t able to read the plate. And, Riemelt has been convicted with a failed bank robbery, as far as I know.

Now this is interessing. Why didn´t you tell me earlier?

It was a stressful day! So, I suggest I talk to the Riemelts in private first? I know them for 10 years. It might be totally unsuspicious to invite the wife for a coffee or such.

Bring me a piece of DNA, a cigarette, a coffee mug, whatever.

Frank, this is illegal. I will use, not ABUSE my friendship to others for my job.

If he was convicted before we started registrating the DNA, it is useless. I need that! If the cigarettes I found do NOT match your neighbour, it is in his favor, isn´t it?

A bit later, Sarah drives home, knowing the schedule of the Riemelts. Heike Riemelt will return with her daughter from therapy usually at 2 PM. Sarah invites herself for a coffee and a chatter, and Heike Riemelt tells her neighbour that her husband is out working, as he told her he is working as day laborer, taking whatever offers him a few bucks.

Bodo works really hard, he alwasy phantasizes that he can pay Lillys medicine.

Hm, isn´t that paid by health insurance?

There is a new experimental one in Gasmea that can help, but it´s not approved in Hetvesia. Well, we would have to fly to Gasmea and pay it ourselves, as usual there. But… it is 200.000 Mark. We are so deep in debt, and who hires a convicted criminal? He robbed the bank six years ago for that medicine, and well, since then, nothing has moved foward. The Hetvesian pharma lobby…

Please, no conspiracy theories… But I get your frustration. And I see why your husband did what he did. Aren´t you afraid he could try such a thing again?

NO! He regrets seeing her not grow up and leaving her alone so much, I doubt it.

May I talk to Lilly?

No, she is too exhausted from therapy. All that would not be neccecary if we could give her that damn medicine!

Sarah then sneaked into the bathroom and took the toothbrushes, knowing that one of them must be the one of Bodo Riemelt…

The next morning, Frank has the morning briefing with Captain Schneider, presenting him the news.

The DNA does not match any of the Riemelt family. But, it does match Arndt Brenner, a burglar.

So, you have one of them now?

I even think we have both. He shared a prison cell with Bodo Riemelt for one and a half years. Riemelt is in need of money, and he was seen being picked up by a Baumhauer like the one we are looking for.

So, why are you still standing here?

Well, I was just coming to that… With the credit cards they robbed, they got in Frunia 17.000 Hetvesische Mark over a very complex computer system. Brenner can barely use a mobilephone, and Riemelt was six years in prison, he does not know any OS since Doors 2.1…

You mean, there is someone in the background organizing the robberies. And you wait with the arrest of Brenner and Riemelt to get that one.

Exactly, boss.

My answer is no! I see your point, but my priority must be that the roads are safe again! I want you to get Harry or Sarah and get me the duo before the press mocks us even more.

But…

YOU HAVE YOUR ORDERS!

A bit later…

So, Brenner was not at home, what next?

The tire marks in the snow were fresh. Usually they would start robbing now. They might drive from Riemelts apartment to that bridge over the A2. And we are almost at Riemelts adress.

HEY, FRANK! THAT`S THEM!

Right! Hold on tight, let´s get them.

Mamba 12-2 for Mamba 12, backup required on the Friedwalder Allee inwards. In pursuit of the wanted Bodo Riemelt and Arndt Eugen Brenner, driving a eggplant Baumhauer 328 Vier, registration Berlau-Siegfried-Ulrich-three-three-nine.

Frank, DRIVE!

THAT THING HAS ALL WHEEL DRIVE! What do you think am I doing to keep up?

Mamba 12-2 to all available units, location update, Wilhelminenstraße southbound.

Frank, if we continue to blindly speed across all interesections we will be hit.

We got a red car and bright blue light, how can others not see that? Activate the siren when we approach and nobody will hit us.

OH SHIT, FRANK, WATCH OUT!

BANG

Yeah, Frank, nobody will hit us. Is that truck called nobody, or what?

Crap, the right rear suspension is broken, we´re out of the chase. Mamba 12 for Mamba 12-2, please confirm. We lost the suspect.

A bit later, Brenner and Riemelt arrive at the garage where they hide the car.

FUCK! That was close. We need to change the car as soon as possible and get rid of this one.

Bodo, open the gate and let me care about that later. We must hide it before we are spotted.

Both Brenner and Riemelt could not be found later, and Sarah tries it the sneaky way by visiting Lilly, the disabled daughter.

Oh Sarah, it is soooo nice of you that you gifted me the concert tickets for our favourite rock band, buuut… I am afraid I can´t accept your invitation this time.

But, Megatron are so cool!

My condition is worsening, my muscles are further degenerating, I am in too much pain to enjoy it. But thanks for all the great memories we had together and the invitations, it wasn´t cheap and you`re not that wealthy either. You are special.

Well, I got a good job for a few years already, it´s not that I have to starve to make this possible for you. But, is there anything I can do for your health?

I know daddy is in trouble and that you are looking for him. Can´t you just… let him go? He did it all just for me.

Sadly, I have limits of my possibilities, but I guess my captain could arrange a good deal for him.

He has not killed somebody, has he?

No. He just knocked people down and stole, but no really bad crime. Do you have an idea where he is? I guess it is better that I find him before other officers arrest him. Maybe he feels safer with me?

He hides at my uncle´s place, he lives on the 15th floor but is drunk all the time. But please, do not visit him, please leave him in peace! Please Sarah, promise.

I do. I will not tell it my Captain. But he can not hide forever. I give you time until tomorrow, so that you can spend some time with your father before he needs to go back into prison, okay?

Arndt Brenner also found a place to hide… and a newspaper.

Let´s see our press reviews. Ahaha… "The Million Mark Coup of the “Police”… wait, what is written there? “The fake cops managed to steal prototypes of weapons with a value of… SIX MILLION MARK?”

Late in the night, Brenner and Riemelt meet up…

Sikora fooled us! He gave us 5000 Mark for that boxes, and he got SIX MILLION!

Arnie, what are we doing now about it?

We will be caught, the police is monitoring my apartment, I had to sneak out. How much is left for the therapy?

Too much…

Bodo, I kept some of my share, it´s like 10.000. It´s in a bag in the trunk, get it, it´s all I have left. You know, my landlord wanted to collect debt and such, but it´s at least covering flight tickets and hotels in Gasmea.

I CAN NOT ACCEPT THIS!

We are friends! Your daughter is to me like she was my own daughter. Face reality, Bodo! You`ll be caught soon, and what can you do for her in prison? NOTHING! So, collect as much as you can as long as you are free.

Maybe… my wife can arrange a installment plan for the payments.

Bodo, Ill meet now with Sikora. I have a gun with me, and Ill get the cash he fooled us over. If everything goes well, your daughter will be treated in Gasmea next week.

And if not?

Well, you better grab the 10.000 in my trunk then.

Arnie, I want to come with you. It is too dangerous alone!

I am no damn beginner, I know what to do. Your daughter needs you more. I`ll see you with the cash, my friend!

An hour later, the criminal Michael Sikora waits at a quarry, and Brenner arrives in his dark brown IAS Vulture.

So, what do you want, Brenner?

A FAIR SLICE! You got MILLIONS for the weapons. Do you have any idea how higly criminal dealing with weapons is?

I am a criminal, you dumbass. And then you better don´t get caught, hm?

It´s over, Sikora. The nooze is tightening around our throats, and we need cash to escape. How about half a million? This is VERY fair considering that you might have gotten two or three million for the computerized drones.

Fuck off, Brenner. You know, any word from you or Riemelt towards the police, and a little girl in a wheelchair will fall down some veeeeeery steep stairs… right into the water. Can she swim? I guess not. Mmmh, drowning is such a tragic death…

SHUT UP, YOU BASTARD!

While Brenner pulls his gun, Sikora already had one hidden under the coat, and fires first before Brenner could aim. Arndt Brenner dies instantly.

Michael Sikora then drives the IAS further up, puts the dead body of Brenner behind the wheel, jams the accelerator and lets the car fall down thirty meters, and it explodes at the moment it hits the bottom.

Sikora drives away laughing, while the remainings of the IAS burn, and the security that came for a routine check briefly after Sikora left, immediately called 110.

Uwe, it is my fault. Is there really no doubt?

None, 1979 IAS Vulture, registrated on Arndt Brenner, so this is why we called you in first place. But how is that your fault?

I should have noticed the plate of the Baumhauer instead of being focussed on calling the AHAC for my broken down car. We would have gotten them earlier, and alive… what if Riemelt is next? Then, a disabled girl has to live without her father. I need to warn Riemelt.

But how, Sarah?

I know where… eh, I know where to find Frank to make a plan for this. Uwe, can you care for the paperwork here?

Sure. Good luck, Sarah.

The next morning, Sarah meets with Harry outside of the department.

So, what is the plan?

We must warn Riemelts wife. Last night I searched in the apartment of a relative in the same high-rise, but Bodo was not there, his daughter must have told him that I knew their secret. I am sure they are in contact, so that she can persuade him to give up.

You really think they talk to each other?

Absolutely. Bodo Riemelt loves his family. Get in the car, we meet with Frank.

Harry, I feel bad for chasing a man who´s daughter desperately needs him.

He had a choice to not return to jail, Sarah. Actually, how long do you know them?

10 Years. When I was the age of Lilly, my father was killed in action. My mother became alcohol addicted, we lost everything and ended up in the social housing… exactly that ruin on the left there! The Riemelts were our neighbours, and when my mother was too drunk to get groceries or spent the last coins on alcohol, they fed me.

Oh, I am sorry…

So, when I moved out to my current apartment at the border to Friedwald, I organized them an apartment in the same complex, as it has an elevator, it´s easier with the wheelchair.

I see, Sarah. You and Lilly are close then, right?

If her muscles continue to deteriorate, she will be unable to breathe in… five to ten years. And she is just 14 now.

STOP, Sarah! I do not want to get sentimental, and I need a rational focus on the case.

At the entrance of the highrise, Frank and his two partners meet up.

So, we do as discussed. Sarah, you talk to the girl, Harry, you talk to the wife. I will wait down here and see if someone moves out when he hears the police ringing…

Indeed Bodo Riemelt runs out of the building, using the backdoor, and sprints to the family car, driving off - with Frank following him.

Mamba 12-3 to Mamba 12. Please inform 12-4 that I am following the wanted Bodo Riemelt as soon as they report back on the radio. They should contact me for my location and assist. Over.

Frank, where are you?

FINALLY! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL THE TIME?

Mrs. Riemelt had a nervous breakdown, and the condition of her daughter is quite fragile, too. We called an ambulance and could not leave them alone until they were in safe hands.

I see. So, we are heading towards Teberau.

Oh, I guess I know where. While we waited for the ambulance, the open phonebook took my attention, and he has circled an adress near the Teberberg. A mister… eh, Michael Sikora.

Have you checked that person?

No, we wanted to speak to you first, as the department told you so.

All right, drive then as fast as possbile. Mamba 12 for Mamba 12-3, please respond, I need all information on a mister Michael Sikora, living in Teberau!

Frank, you hear me?

Harry, what´s up?

Michael Sikora is dangerous. Involved in international computer fraud and smuggling, but we have no proof yet.

This might change today… FUCK, Riemelt goes very slow, as if he searches the adress. I get too close, I better turn into a side road.

SHIT! HARRY, I AM STUCK IN THE SNOW! DONT TURN INTO THE WIESENGASSE! Where are you?

We are there in half an hour, Sarah is driving as fast as she can.

AH SHIT! Let´s see if I can get the car free.

Riemelt finally finds the right house by seeing the 1970 Vaughn Tobago Rallye, Sikoras car. He jumps over the fence, armed, and intrudes the house, forcing Sikora to open his safe. But the latter manages to escape with the money bag, and fire back, but as they are running, they constantly miss each other.

Finally Sikora reaches his car, ready to escape, but in anger about the fact that Sikora does not want to give a single penny, Riemelt shoots him, to his own surprise.

Frank arrives in just that moment, having freed his Primus from the snow trap.

RIEMELT! GIVE UP!

NO WAY, INSPECTOR!

Come on, he is armed, I will say it was self defense, you won´t have to face a murder trial if you drop the gun!

NO! I NEED THE MONEY!

THINK OF YOUR DAUGHTER! SHE WOULD NOT WANT THIS!

I THINK ABOUT NOTHING ELSE! SHE DOES NOT WANT THIS, BUT SHE NEEDS THIS!

SORRY INSPECTOR!

RIEMELT! NOOO!

He then fires at Frank, who jumps over his car to dodge the bullets, and fires back.

Bodo Riemelt is hit in the chest, and falls to the ground, while Frank just got hit in his leg. He limps to the dying gangster, willing to let the family man have a last words.

Fuck, Riemelt… Was that really worth it?

For my daughter´s therapy? Yes. The price I pay can´t be …too… expe…

Riemelt? HEY, … shit.

In that moment, Sarah and Harry arrive.

FRANK, ARE YOU OK?

Just a minor hit in the leg, … but…

Are… they dead?

Yes, Sarah, Sikora and Riemelt are both dead.

What´s in that bag?

Money, I suggest. Riemelt wanted that from Sikora, I guess we now found his gangster boss, too. Harry, don´t touch it. It´s proof.

Frank?

Yes, Sarah?

A FEW WEEKS LATER

Heike Riemelt opens the door to Sarah Maier, not being pleased about the visit.

What do you want?

May I get in?

Only because Lilly loves you so much. What´s in that bag?

I was about to discuss that matter. It is the money that Sikora held in his hand when,… well, it is a part of it. He had 723.000 Mark, and… we found 523.000 according to the protocols.

What´s with the rest?

It is in this bag. For Lillys treatment.

But, how?..

My superior officer covers me up. I mean, it will take years until the fraud unit will have scanned all of Sikoras documents, and in that mess… I guess, nobody will put in question if we found 523.000 or 723.000

Sarah, I…

I owe it to Lilly. I want no discussion. Call me when you need a ride to the airport.

Damn, this episode was dark. For once I was touched and not only amused.

Still taking cars for Season 13 Episode 2 and beyond? And if so, can I use Al-Rilma?

S05E05: Six Years

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show and modest violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

BERLAU, 1992

A woman enters her Authié et Dallier and starts driving.

The drive is rather boring and … not much happens.

But then, the car feels weird in the rain, and a braking attempt fails, in panic, the driver overreacts and the car starts to spin.

The car crashes into the guardrail, is catapulted up in the air - and lands in front of a truck that can not stop in time. Bang!

BERLAU, 1998

Are you Mr. Wolfgang Seifert?

Who wants to know this?

Kriminaloberkommissar Frank Batimus. Since this place is near my patrol route, I got the task to inform you that Lennart Kussin has been released from prison today.

He WHAT… eh I mean, eh, thanks for telling me.

Are you worried?

Why should I?

He threatened you that he will reveal the truth by all means neccecary, and that you will pay for your lie. I informed the local police station, so a patrol car will adjust it´s route. In any case, if Kussin threatens you or you notice something suspicious, call immediately. Everyone here is informed.

Thanks… eh, is that everything?

Yes. I just thought you might want to know…

Sure, sure. Thanks again and have a nice day.

HEY, LISTEN! KUSSIN IS OUT! We need to meet immediately… Yes, good. Yes, I know that location. See you in half an hour.

The next morning, Wolfgang Seifert drives onto the A5, leaving Berlau. He is in a hurry. A recklessly merging Swanson causes a Mara to swerve, and the brakes of Seiferts Arva fail. In panic, he avoids the Mara, and breaks through the barriers of the construction site.

Seifert now loses the car completely, and crashes sideways into a dozer - he is immediately dead.

Frank Batimus called Sarah to the crash site, since he is expecting a criminal case.

Damn, Sarah, you look…

Shit, I know. I am sorry, I… just broke up with Klaus. I wanted to report sick in the moment you called me and said we have an urgent case.

Thanks for making duty your priority, really. Should I talk to Klaus?

No, I guess it´s not needed… anyway, what´s the case you see here?

The dead man in the ARVA is Wolfgang Seifert. I visited him last evening, telling him that a man who threatened him has been released from prison. Under this circumstances, the death is highly suspicious. Please organize a tow to the KTU, I want that vehicle investigated. And I need the autopsy results from the coroner as soon as possible.

Who is that man who threatened him, and why?

Lennart Kussin, a former employee of Seifert and a mechanic. He repaired the brakes of a car, he made a shitty job, the brakes failed, and the driver died. He got six years in prison for that.

THAT MUCH?

Yeah, well, the judge lost his son due to a lousy repair job, but Kussin didn´t have much money and got the cheapest lawyer the state could pay for. Still, this doesn´t justify murder. Kussin said that he checked everything and made a test drive, and that Seifert even saw him, but Seifert said no in court.

Two hours later, Frank stops at a house in Werlitz.

Who is it?

POLICE! I need to talk to Mr. Dieball.

He is not there.

And who are you?

Mrs. Dieball.

Oh… well, … eh, may I discuss something with you?

Just in that moment, a man jumped out of the bushes, hit Frank from behind, grabbed his gun, and threatens to kill the young woman that opened.

LUISA! YOU REALLY MARRIED THAT BASTARD! I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!

Frank stood up, realizing that he is in trouble.

Lennart Kussin, right?

YES! Damn, Luisa, WHY HIM? I TOLD YOU I DID NOTHING WRONG!

Wait, Kussin,… do you just tell me that this young lady is your former girlfriend that… married the widower of the lady that died in the car that you repaired?

I DID A CORRECT JOB! THIS WAS A SETUP! I DID A TEST DRIVE AND I WILL MAKE SEIFERT TELL THE TRUTH!

You killed him, you idiot!

What? Seifert is dead? HOW?

Manipulated brakes, just as six years ago, the same bad maintenance. Don´t act surprised, Kussin.

I DID NOT KILL HIM! HE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO TELL THE TRUTH! WHY WOULD I KILL HIM?

Kussin, if you are innocent, we will find out. But now, give me the gun.

FORGET IT! YOU ALREADY FUCKED ME SIX YEARS AGO! THE CAR KEYS, OFFICER! NOW!

Lennart Kussin escapes with Franks car, leaving behind his ex and Frank, who now has a serious problem, without car and gun…

Eh, Mrs. Dieball, do you mind giving me a ride to Berlau? Eh, he has my car, and I need to arrange the manhunt as soon as possible.

Do you think… that he killed Seifert?

It is likely, but not proven, but I better arrest him before he continues to dig himself much deeper into trouble.

Frank made a phone call, and arrived an hour later at the department, Harry was outside smoking and greeted Frank with a big smile.

Damn, Frank, how do you always manage to be so lucky? You drive away in a yaaaaaawn boring Primus and come back with a hot blonde in a fancy convertible. You mind telling me your secret?

SHUT UP! That´s not funny. Harry, I need to get information from Sarah, please get us the car in the meantime.

My car, I suppose? Or yours? But this might need some time then, if you want to take yours…

HARRY! ENOUGH!

So, what do you want in Greifingen?

Wolfgang Seifert had a son there. He might give us some information. His divorced wife is on a cruise ship, so the son is my first contact point.

What do you want from him? Shouldn´t we better search Kussin?

You know, he was right in one thing. If Seifert really lied, why should he kill him before he makes a testimony, when Kussins main goal is being rehabilitated by proving his innocence?

Next exit Greifingen-Center. Let´s hope you`re not chasing ghosts there, Frank.

Kussin is credible. This is no wasted time, Harry. But that does not spare him from getting his ass smacked by me. NOBODY STEALS MY CAR!

In Greifingen, they meet Steve Seifert.

Fuck! I knew something was shady.

Shady?

Yes, my father suddenly had money. I mean, he never paid child support, and suddenly, he gifted me an almost new sports car briefly after Lenny was in prison. Wouldn´t a service station go bankrupt instead after such an incident?

Usually, yes. How was the relation between your father and Lennart Kussin?

Excellent, like father and son. And Lennart was a really good mechanic, I still can´t imagine that he made such bad work. He ALWAYS made careful test drives.

So, your father was lying?

Possibly, yes. Do you mind leaving me alone now? I … need some rest after these bad news.

One last question. How close where Kussin and his girlfriend?

Very. She would never left him, but… six years in prison, I mean, life needed to move on, I guess.

On the way back, the inspectors make a food stop.

All right, Frank. Maybe you were right with your idea. But, who was it then?

The widower. Steve Seifert told us that Kussin and his girlfriend were in a solid relationship. Helge Dieball wanted that attractive woman, but the business he´s making money with is owned by the wife, so inheriting is better than a divorce. So, it was a genius move to get rid of both his wife AND the boyfriend of the 18 year old he wants.

Can we prove it?

Sadly not. Let´s interrogate Helge Dieball, Sarah got me the adress of his business, a luxury car dealer.

Soon later, both enter the “Autosalon Exquisit”, and check out the cars exhibited for sale.

TWO-HUNDRED-THOUSAND-MARK? Damn!

Harry, do NOT touch it. ANY CAR YOU TOUCH IS IN DANGER!

FUCK, TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND!

Would the gentlemen prefer something cheaper? Like this new arrival. A 1993 Nonozo Ascendente. Four practical doors, a four-liter V8 with good power, premium interior with CD…low mileage! Just 20.000 Mark. A steal!

Yes, that´s more my wallet size, so, you are Mr. Dieball, the owner?

Yes, trust me, that offer is excellent. You like a test drive?

Not now. Frank Batimus, highway patrol. I am investigating the death of Wolfgang Seifert. He was killed this morning by a manipulated car.

Oh no!

Oh yes.

Do you have a suspect, inspector?

Our main suspect is someone you know well, it is Mr. Kussin.

He has been released?

Yes, and since it seems he is on a revenge tour, we want to offer you and your wife protection in a safehouse until we have him. I mean, he must be quite angry against you.

Why?

Well,… your wife died in the car he repaired, and then the first thing you did was marrying his girlfriend, isn´t that …

None of your business, yes.

You know how this sounds to me? Like a VERY lucky man. I mean, you got rid of your old and wrinkled wife, the annoying boyfriend of an 18 year old blonde girl you want to fuck, and… an Authié et Dallier whose ownership was surely a burden, too. Not to forget you got that nice fancy family business from your wife that you would have lost in case of a divorce. At the same time, the one refusing Kussin the Alibi takes money baths like uncle Scrooge. Hmmm… quite a lot coincidences, right?

OUT! NOW!´This interrogation has ended.

As you like, but I´d like to check out that Cavaliere before leaving.

Frank, what kind of weird tactic was that?

I wanted to read his body language. You know, slick people like Helge Dieball MIGHT have a slight… eh, mis-matching in what they say, and what they think. And I want to make him nervous. Nervous people tend to make mistakes, and that´s where we get him.

So, is he lying?

We will find out. He claimed to not have known about the death of Seifert. Get me the phone bill of Seiferts home and garage. If he lied there, it is very likely that my theory is valid. Come.on, Steve Seifert has a salad green 1989 Splitfin GT that he got as a gift six years ago. And who is a local Nonozo seller? Dieball! I bet the car was also part of the deal.

At the department, an angry Bernd Schneider cites Frank in his office.

FRANK! What the hell have you been thinking there? I have a formal complaint!

He is REALLY sensitive, I was not even THAT rude.

Do you have any valid proof against him? I mean, a lot about this is suspicious, but you are leaning yourself a bit far out of the window. Get me Lennart Kussin instead. He is armed, thanks to your carelessness, by the way.

Boss, now it becomes unfair.

Stay away from Helge Dieball until you have valid evidence, understood? Meanwhile, I can make a nice paper plane out of that complaint, but only if YOU FOLLOW MY ORDERS! Dismissed!

Suddenly, a radio call brought some important news.

Mamba 12 for 12-4, respond! Frank, you were right. Kussin did hide at his sister´s apartment. But he escaped over the balcony.

Sarah, where is he?

In front of me, I almost have him!

Location?

Reuterdamm, heading to the harbor.

Ok, Sarah, we send you backup, but currently you are quite alone there. Try to force him into a dead end.

Frank, isn´t he armed?

He had the chance to shoot me and his unfaithful ex, and we both are quite alive, so… I doubt he wil use my gun.

Frank, he is now entering the harbor.

DON´T SCRATCH MY CAR! BE CAREFUL!

I am not Harry.

Yes, but you are Sarah, and that is not much better.

Ah, fuck you, really.

Sarah tries to spin the car of Kussin, but instead, he squeezes her off the quay wall… directly towards a barge.

OOOOOOOOOOH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT

In the evening, a frustrated Frank goes for a whisky, noticing that Sarah is getting drunk at the bar.

Is it Klaus?

Yes, and the fact that I got a dressing down from Schneider for throwing my car into a barge. That´s unfair, at least I didn´t land in the water.

Yep, at least you still have your vehicle. I feel so naked without the key in my pocket. And I have no evidence yet against Helge Dieball. Yes, Seifert called him, he lied, but that is no proof that he sabotaged the car, and that he killed his wife six years ago.

WAITER! ANOTHER ONE! For my colleague a scotch as well!

Sarah, I need your … female intuitution. If you were Luisa Dieball, and if Kussin still loves her and tries contacting her, would… you respond?

Depends on the trust level to her husband.

Harry already told her that we have her husband under suspicion, to increase pressure on him.

In this case I would regret my choice and listen to my ex.

So, they WILL meet sooner or later?

Yes.

All right, I will try to persuade Schneider to let me observe Luisa Dieball then.

Meanwhile, Luisa Dieball is on the way home - and stopped by Kussin in Franks car. He begs her to follow him to a safer space, and listen to him.

I don´t know if I can believe you.

YOU CAN! YOUR FINE HUSBAND BROUGHT ME IN PRISON, IS A MURDERER AND YOU FUCKED HIM FOR SIX YEARS! LUISA!

Do you have proof?

What does your heart say, Luisa? AM I A MURDERER?

Lenny, I… need to think about it.

Tomorrow, the Swan Cafe, 5 PM?

Ok, ok…

The next day, Frank and Harry observe the Dieball house, especially Luisa Dieball.

FINALLY! She drives away. Harry, get us the car.

Let´s hope I didn´t waste the whole day. There has got a better way to spend my life than eyeballing some blonde all day like a peeping Tom.

She is heading to Berlau. Inspector clairvoyant, do you also have an idea there?

Not yet. Mamba 12-3 to Mamba 12-4, Sarah, what is Helge Dieball doing?

Is still at work, nothing happened.

Hm. I thought Kussin seeks for revenge. Ok, keep me updated.

Swan Cafe. She worked there before she married Dieball. Hah!

That does not automatically mean that Kussin also comes. I mean, why wouldn´t you just casually visit your old employer?

Kussin is nostalgic, he still thinks he can get her back, and lives in the old times. He is definitely sentimental about this location.

Have you dated Petra lately, or when did you become a psychologist, Frank?

Well, Sarah broke up with Klaus, and… I bought some psychology books to find a way to… make use of the situation.

Frank, you… ah, I spare myself any comment.

But nobody came, and more than an hour later, Harry has finally enough.

Frank, COME ON! She has been doing nothing than ordering a glass of red wine and nervously staring at her watch. He knows we observe her, he didn´t want to take the risk. My shift ends in five minutes, and I have enough of this. My ass hurts like shit from sitting in the car all day.

Yes, true… he might know we follow her.

So, inspector psychologist? Any idea?

Hm…hm… YES! By following her, WE LEFT THE HOUSE UNSUPERVISED! AND WHEN SHE IS WAITING HERE, SHE IS NOT HOME WHEN HE KILLS HER HUSBAND AND SPARES HER THE BLOODBATH. I would absolutely do it that way if I loved a woman and was in his situation.

So, you tell me to drive all the way back to Werlitz now, for nothing?

Yes, Harry, GO!

OOOH SHIT! MY CAR! That means he is already here!

And the Fanella of Helge Dieball, too.

Mamba 12-3 to 12-4, Sarah, what happened? SARAH! Mamba 12-3 TO ALL UNITS. 12-4 DOES NOT RESPOND. LAST LOCATION AT LEOPOLDSTRASSE 36A, AUTOSALON EXQUISIT! KUSSIN IS NOW IN THE DIEBALLS HOUSE! BACKUP REQUIRED!

Don´t waste time, Frank, let´s get in!

Indeed, Kussin threats Dieball with his gun, squeezing a confession out of him, but Frank tells Kussin that everything revealed under pressure is not valid. Suddenly, Sarah rings, and that she was distracted because the coroner told her that they found a key for a locker in Wolfgang Seiferts pocket - and that the Berlau City Police finally found the fitting locker at the central station - and in it was a confession letter, that Kussin did indeed a test drive and that he recieved money to prove otherwise, since the reputation was ruined and no customers came anymore, Seifert was left no choice in his opinion. Before marrying the rich Isolde Behr, Dieball was a car mechanic himself and well capable of sabotaging cars. Seifert wrote the letter, suspecting that Dieball might kill him as well, and wanting to let the truth finally be revealed.

A relieved Kussin drops the gun, but Dieball grabs it and escapes through the backdoor, running to his car, and Frank and Harry enter the pursuit.

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba, suspect Helge Dieball is escaping in a dark blue Fanella Cosa Molto, registration Werlitz-Richard-Heinrich-556, we now leave Werlitz in direction southwest.

Meanwhile, Lennart Kussin tries to escape, but Bernd Schneider arrives.

FREEZE! KUSSIN, DONT MOVE! I am Kriminalrat Bernd Schneider, and we two have a serious word with each other now.

My innocence was proven!

How about grand theft auto, robbery, illegal possession of weapons, housebreaking and coercion?

Come on, if the police did their job right, I would not have SERVED SIX FUCKING YEARS! INNOCENT!

I can not deny the fact that mitigating circumstances have to be put into consideration. But, one thing. GIVE ME THAT DAMN CAR KEYS! The inspector who this car is assigned to is definitely not pleased. Better disappear before he is back. YES, GET LOST! I DON´T WANT TO SEE YOU ANYMORE FOR A WHILE IN BERLAU! At least until I figured out how to get the charges dropped.

WHERE ARE YOU? WE ASKED FOR BACKUP AN ETERNITY AGO! DIEBALL IS HEADING TO ZASSOW!

Mamba 12-3 for Mamba 12, please confirm: We formed a roadblock behind Zassow.

Good then… HARRY STOP! THAT IS TOO RISKY!

Reporting Accident at L14, five kilometer ahead of Zassow. Ambulance required.

Frank, if he continues to drive like that, he might kill someone. Let´s just ram him off the road.

No, NOT AGAIN A CAR WRECK! Harry, just push him into the road block, and make yourself wide, so that he can not turn back.

Frank, we are now entering Zassow with FAR ABOVE 100 instead of 50 KPH. If someone does not hear the siren and doesn´t watch out… LET´S RAM HIM!

But even if Harry could catch up, it was not close enough to get into distance for a pit maneuver.

NOT IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, HARRY! Try it again at the exit.

FUCK! ALWAYS ONCOMING TRAFFIC! Harry, don´t do that!

Yes, but now we leave Zassow and the boat is faster on a straight line than my car, I can just get him in corners.

Harry, as you can see, THERE IS NO SPACE FOR US TO OVERTAKE!

Fuck it, I do it!

HARRY!

FUUUUUUUUCK HARRY! THAT WAS CLOSE!

NOW! HARHAR!

YAAY! WE SLICED THE TIRE! And the suspension doesn´t look to solid anymore either. He won´t get far.

Yeah, great, Harry, you just unneccecarily damaged two cars, risked our lives, ONE KILOMETER AHEAD OF THE ROADBLOCK!

With the damaged car, Dieball has no other chance than stopping, and behind him, Frank is already in position with his gun pulled.

DIEBALL, YOU ARE ARRESTED! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! That gun you were about to pull is mine, by the way. DON´T DROP IT CARELESSLY, I HATE SCRATCHES! And now get closer with your hands in the air, so that I do not need to scream when reading out your rights.

After the arrest, Frank called Sarah for a meeting in Berlaus city center.

Thanks for telling me about your female instincts. You actually helped me solving that case just in time.

You didn´t come here just to tell me that, Frank.

Eh, and what then?

You want to use your chance now that Klaus is gone, just like Dieball used the moment when he paid Seifert to push Lennart Kussin out of the way. But well, at least you didn´t use foul play like that slick sports car scumbag.

Eh, that … Sarah! This is quite an accusation!

No Frank, it is female intuition!

yes, I even take cars from season 8 onwards in both game version since instead of doing one episode per year as announced, I increased to two. For 1999, even three episodes will be done, with the last one being a remake of the one that I posted after the first cscs.

The 1999 episodes will still need some time, as they are really complex to produce and require some specifically built vehicles that aren´t made in 5 minutes.

Like what?

S06E04: And Action!

Trigger Warning: This is supposed to be an accurate 90s cop show and modest violence seen in these things. Please make sure this is suitable for you before reading.

Mamba 12-6 to Mamba, everything calm on the A10 tonight. Following patrol route as usual. Over.

Meanwhile, three young people exit a disco.

Are you sure you can still drive? You drank a lot.

You want to use the bus? It runs once an hour … if it runs. Come on, I can drive.

I mean, how about a taxi?

Sorry guys, I am broke.

Me too, invested it all in drinks.

Yeah, I have enough gas left in the tank, I`ll bring us home.

The car drives off, but he is absolutely NOT fit for driving, causing a first accident already after not much more than a minute.

The drunk drive continues in the suburbs of Berlau, and causes many near-misses and another crash, resulting in a call to the police.

At the same time, at a highway overpass:

You got the instructions. You merge into oncoming traffic, Jo will follow you with the other car, evade the oncoming traffic, but try to not make it boring, have minor collisions with each other. We have prepared everything, let´s go!

But I see no barriers, Mr. Zimmermann.

If you would see them, the audience would, too. THIS IS A FIRST CLASS MOVIE AND NOT SOME CHEAP DOUBLE FEATURE CRAP!

The two cars merge onto A11 as planned.

Mamba 12-6 to Mamba. I have entered the pursuit of the wanted Globus Stallion. Three occupants. Heading on A11 clockwise.

Roger. Mamba 12-6, try to overtake and stop.

A few kilometers ahead, the two cars having a staged chase endanger the traffic, causing crashes since the evading led to panic reactions.

At the same time, the drunk driver plows his way through the sparse traffic, trying everything to get rid of Polizeihauptmeister Jakob Walkowski who is after him.

Briefly after, the inevitable happens - while the drunk driver in the Globus Stallion evades, Walkowski had no chance of seeing the exact movements of the oncoming HAMFA, and is catapulted in the air in a serious high-speed crash.

CRAP! THAT WAS NOT IN THE SCRIPT! IT WAS SCARY!

CALM DOWN! Zimmermann must be here any second, he told us to follow us closely!

Jo, is the police officer…real?

I have no idea, but, that looks serious, help me getting him out.

Mr. Zimmermann, good that you are here, a crash…

Yes, the speeding mint green car and the following officer must have overlooked the barriers… what a tragic. I handle this as the director and producer, get away now and relax a bit.

The man introduced as Mr. Zimmermann then goes to the HAMFA and removes some film cameras from the interior and exterior… and leaves behind the unconscious Jakob Walkowski

A bit later, the Globus with the drunk young people inside stops near the canal in south Berlau.

Jeanette, Jens, get out. I will now sink the car.

You think this is a good idea?

If we are lucky nobody will ever see it again, and even if, our fingerprints are washed away. Now let me sink it!

The driver jumps out at the last second and the Globus sinks as planned…

But they were watched by Zimmermann and an assistant, while another car joins.

Do you really think it is neccecary to film the scenes… on the open roads, with random people being involved?

OF COURSE! MOVIES ARE ART! And there is nothing as stunning as chases and car crashes. Staged ones are not good enough, I WANT REAL EMOTION AND DESTRUCTION ON SCREEN! Ah, there comes Klever. He must have collected all cameras by now that we installed behind the guardrail. I got those of the HAMFA and burned it down.

Not much later, the phone of Frank Batimus rings, calling him into the office, since there are bad news: Harald Walkowskis brother Jakob had an almost lethal crash in a chase, and Schneider wants Frank and Sarah on the case, since Harry is personally involved - the two, meanwhile sharing Franks apartment, drive to work as fast as they can.

So far, we have a 1988 Hamfa without chassis number, the paint is red, but that is definitely not the original color. People have seen it driving into oncoming traffic together with an SUV. Meanwhile, the car Mr. Walkowski chased belongs to the 18 year old Max Grundeis, it could not be found. He claims that the car was stolen, as he left it at a disco because he was drunk.

How credible is he?

Depends on what Mr. Walkowski says after waking up. I have given Harald the day off, since he should have the privillege to speak to his brother first after surgery.

Brat, so it was three in the car? Can you identify the driver?

Not sure, my memories are blurred. The doctors say that it might come back.

I hope so. Get well soon, and grab these drunkards.

There is one thing, Harry. I will not come back. The doctors also told, that… well, my career is over. I won´t make a full recovery, and that means desk work only, and I dont want that.

JAKE! THATS BULLSHIT!

It is not. Harry, I have already informed Schneider that after hospital release, I will grab the compensation payment and… try my luck in Gasmea. From dishwasher to millionaire, you know? Maybe I found a security company or such.

NO! YOU WILL MAKE A RECOVERY AND GO BACK ON PATROL!

At the same time…

KLEVER! I heard you have news for me?

Yes, Mr. Zimmermann. The officer who was almost killed in the collision is Jakob Walkowski, and he has a twin brother also working at the highway patrol, a … Harald Walkowski.

Oh, PERFECT. I bet he is willing to do everything to get the driver of the Hamfa, right?

What are you up to, boss?

I want him to enter a chase. No stuntman could do as good as a highway cop wanting revenge for his brother. Call Jo and set up a fast car, the highway patrol definitely won´t show up in a BetterDeals.

Harry! We won´t interrogate Grundeis now. Its better for you and … definitely better for him, too. And he won´t tell us who drove the Hamfa or the SUV. I mean, that would mean he must confess that he was drunk driving and causing some costly crashes, he will NEVER do that.

HE WILL CONFESS! I PROMISE!

See, I would do the same in your situation, and that would mean that both Walkowski brothers would have to leave the police, and I was just getting used to you. How about Donuts, Harry?

I don´t have appetite.

But I have.

Come on, we will prove the guilt of Grundeis one way or another, and then he might tell us something about the happening of the crash in order to get a deal. Frank will interrogate him again, and by then he might have found withnesses at the club that saw Grundeis and some friends driving away.

Then Harrys phone rang when Sarah ordered donuts for herself, and on the line was a distorted voice telling him that the Hamfa driver was now at the container harbor in Ibenhafen, and that he should hurry up. Ibenhafen is a three hour drive away, and since Sarah left the keys in the ignition, Harry just speeds off, and Sarah could not follow fast enough.

In Ibenhafen, the Hamfa stunt driver arrives.

Oh, Klever, you told me it´s another chase scene? Please, tell me that you have another car for me than this rental. I dont really feel like a movie star in it, to be honest…

Don´t worry. It is on the parking lot at the docks. A sports car classic.

What is that, a Cavaliere Nobile?

No, or do you see a towtruck that brought it? We have something better, a 1971 Authié et Dallier. Listen, we got some hours to set up the cameras. A cop will appear and look after you, and you escape, by any means neccecary.

How do you want to guarantee safety? I mean, everyone is still working here as usual.

All paid actors, don´t worry. Here is a walkie-talkie, in case of emergency you can call me, and you might recieve orders with it.

Later, Harry arrives at the docks in Ibenhafen.

Mamba 12-4 to Mamba, please respond. Mamba for Mamba 12-4, RESPOND! Ah, crap, I am out of Berlau frequency. Well, then. let´s get that maniac solo.

Harry quickly spots the yellow A&D that is not a very subtle car, and the chase begins.

WHAT IS THE DAMN IBENHAFEN FREQUENCY? CRAP! Well, let´s use the mobile phone then and use the Notruf 110.

Since both cars have similar performance, the fugitive can not get rid of Harry, but with a lot of effort, he can squeeze past a truck that Harry has to brake for.

But the joy is not for long: Smoke comes out of the engine compartment, and the car stalls.

MALFUNCTION! Cut!

NO CUT! THIS IS PART OF THE SCRIPT! You continue… with… eeeeehhhh… damn Authié et Disastier always catching fire, … eeeh… THE POPCORN VENDOR THING THERE!

Are you serious?

YES! RUN! The lady in there is a paid actor too.

The vendor jumped out when she heard the engine starting, and already awaited Harry as she saw the shade of blue police light.

CRAP! WHERE IS THE DRIVER OF THAT BURNING CRAP?

Sir, he stole my Pellegrino.

Hey, I am not interessed in who stole your fancy Frunian food, I want the driver.

MY PELLEGRINO! MY VEHICLE! I SELL POPCORN WITH IT?

He stole… WHAT? All right, that´s an easy task for me. WAIT HERE!

But the stunt driver is no beginner - instructed by director Georg Zimmermans right hand, the experienced coordinator Thorben Klever - he escapes in the narrow spots between the containers, where Harrys Primus has significant space problems.

Both opponents drive for their life, but just when Harry was about to get the tiny Pellegrino, it maneuvered into another narrow space where Harry gets stuck with the car and loses time and … car value.

Finally, the Primus is just too damaged to continue the chase, and the fugitive managed to escape with the underpowered but small Pellegrino…

KURWA! KURWA JEBANA!

While the Ibenhafen police is not fond that a foreign inspector caused a mayhem at Hetvesias largest container harbor, Klever secretly collects all cameras and drives away unnoticed…

In the evening, the mood in the department is quite bad.

Harry! I had to convince Schneider to NOT suspend you, but that was another of your “I am a one man unit” actions. WE ARE A TEAM!

HE WOULD HAVE BEEN GONE IF …

YES AND HE IS GONE NOW TOO! And we have one car less on the yard. Whatever you want to do, WE ACT AS A TEAM! Schneider took two days off now, since his sons visit him, and I have the order to keep you away from doing another shit.

The next day, two stunt drivers, Klever and Zimmermann meet up in Berlau.

So, instructions are clear. You have the route here, it will be one of the longest chases in movie history. Bang a few times, but make sure you make it to the finish. We have placed cameras everywhere, you have some in the cars, and Klaas will film from the rear of his car, too, and I have a camera in my car as well. I guess all angles are covered.

AAAAND… ACTION!

Since none of the drivers know that the chase is taking place in public traffic, they are not too uncomfortable with involving other vehicles in their chase and denting a bit of metal…

All vehicles then leave the A10 inner city ring for the country roads, and there, the slugfest continues.

But the driver of the allen hits the curb a bit too hard, and flips over his vehicle, using the Globus of his rival as ramp, and landing in the residential area…

… in the garden of Bernd Schneider, or more precise, on his 1982 Nordwagen.

Later, in the KTU (the criminal technician service of the Hetvesian police):

Yeah, boss. I guess it´s still usable for a convertible conversion…

SHUT UP, BATIMUS! It served me well for ten years! I just heard a loud bang, and when I ran outside, two men were busy removing things from the car, and then jumped over my fence.

Film rolls, boss. But they had no time to remove the film cameras from the Allen, they are still there, some are destroyed, some are not. Harry and Sarah check the serial numbers, maybe we find the owner.

So, they are filming movies… under real conditions?

Yes, we have some filming in Berlau right now, but none asked for permission in that area. They caused a path of destruction from the city center to your house. I bet the Hamfa was another illegal stunt film car as well.

In the late evening, Harry checks the crash site of his brother and the area around it for proof of movie filming. Some footprints and scratches on the guardrail make it very likely that movie filming cameras had been installed.

The next day, Frank and Sarah finally got a hint: The cameras were property of the CrashConcept stunt filming company, having offices in Zeilwies and Berlau.

So, this is owned by the famous Georg Zimmermann? I mean… he made tons of action films, really good ones. He can demand ANY budget and the best actors and special effects, why would he risk it all by filming on the open road?

Well, maybe he wanted the extra thrill after having archieved it all, or he is obsessed with realism, or … he is just a maniac, I don´t know. Let´s check this place out.

WE REFUSE THESE ACCUSATIONS!

It is a fact that your cameras have been used in illegal filming. Twelve people were injured, one of them severely. And I have a search warrant, so let me do my job now!

So, we found nothing. And now they are warned that we are after them. What now, Frank?

Well… maybe they stop that madness now, knowing that we are after them. That would honestly be helpful, even if we can´t get them.

You see that SUV? Couldn´t it be that one that the withnesses reported?

Very likely, Harry saved some tire marks from the accident site, but they are more or less incomplete by now… HAH!

What, Frank?

I saw some red paint dust in their garage, and… wasn´t that rusty Hamfa resprayed with some aftermarket red? I guess it was in order to look good on screen, and it happened recently. Let´s see if we can find red spray paint in the trash!

Frank, you are a genius.

No, just capable of logical thinking. Let´s bring this to the KTU. If this is the correct color, it should be sufficient evidence for an arrest warrant against Georg Zimmermann and his crew.

The next day brought the expected result: The paint is identical to that of the red Hamfa that crashed into Jakob Walkowskis patrol car. But the property of CrashConcept has been cleared: Zimmermann and his crew must have moved back to Zeilwies and removed all possible further evidences.

Frank and Bernd Schneider discuss the further steps.

Grab Sarah and drive to Zeilwies. In the meantime, I get an arrest warrant for Zeilwies. Since this is a very long drive, I suggest you sleep a bit first, and then you will start in order to arrive at 2 PM tomorrow.

And Harry?

I do not want drama and destruction. I know how close the brothers are, it is NOT a good idea to take him with you. I told him to do a patrol route on the A10, checking for illegal prostitution.

But, the next morning, Harry drives to the airport instead, and takes the next flight to Zeilwies.

HEY, TAXI! Are you available?

Does the pope shit in the woods?

I don´t know how our holy father minds his business, but I need a ride, fast.

Police district 31 of Zeilwies!

Harry arives well before his colleagues, and uses that to do a little bluff.

Walkowski? We were announced KOK Batimus and KK Maier.

Yes, eeeh, they had to do a quick arrest in Berlau and will arrive later, in the meantime, I am sent to coordinate the arrest of Zimmermann.

Well, inspector, two officers are already on the way to his mansion. You are a bit late. I guess you can pick him up to get him to court in Berlau, buuuut… the arrest itself is our job.

Tango 14-1 for Tango, where are you?

Tango 14-1, responding. We are almost there.

But, Zimmermann was not there - his housekeeper told them that Zimmermann and Klever packed a few suitcases and just headed for the airport a few minutes ago.

SHIT! I NEED A CAR!

We… have none I am afraid…

WHAT IS WITH THAT ONE OUT THERE?

It is very old and worn out, it is scheduled to be junked next week. I really do not recommed…

KEYS!!

This is Kriminaloberkommissar Frank Batimus from the Berlau Highway Patrol. We are here for the arrest of Georg Zimmermann, Thorben Klever, Johannes Bullrich and Paul Patzke. What is our radio sign in Zeilwies?

KOK Batimus, we will refer to you as Tango 10-55. Georg Zimmermann and Thorben Klever are on the run, most likely in a light blue Nordwagen, registration Zeilwies-Gustav-Zacharias-one. They possibly drive to the airport.

Roger. We will try our luck.

Tango 14-14 for Tango, respond. Your vehicle is not roadworthy and your colleagues just arrived in Zeilwies. Respond!

Dear god, these Zeilwies cops are more annoying than telemarketers…

Frank was lucky and spotted the Nordwagen of Zimmermann outside Zeilwies, twenty minutes away from the airport.

Damn, he just has to drive over the mountain road, and then he is there. That´s close, Sarah. Tango … eh what number did we get?

I can´t remember.

The Berlauers here, the fugitive Georg Zimmermann is now on the, eeeeh… what´s that mountain road heading to Zellhof called?

But Zellhof is the opposite direction from the airport!

Eh, Frank, Sarah, you are finally here? This is Harry. Don´t you think that a man like Zimmermann owns a private plane? There is one small airport for such aircrafts on a plateau in the mountains, I am almost there, propably in front of you and Zimmermann.

HARRY? BUT… AAAAARRRRRGHHH WE DISCUSS THIS LATER!

Harry, where are you?

Ten kilometers away from the airfield.

So we are closing up really fast. Try to drive slow and make yourself wide.

Yeah, not surprising. I got an almost 15 year old car with 300.000 on the clock. I try my best.

OOOOOH ITS GOING STEEP DOWNHILL AND I HAVE BRAKE FADEEEEE!

HARRY! JUMP OUT!

Yes, but not on the road, I will try to let it fall down a cliff into nowhere, wish me luck!

HEEEEEEEEEEELP

FRANK! STOP!

OH SHIT, THAT IS BAD!

FUCK! IF HARRY SURVIVED THIS, I WILL … Harry? HAAAAAAARRRRYYYY!!!

Did… he make it?

I hope so. In first place, I am even irritated how the fuck WE made it, Sarah…

Harry had grabbed a branch and pulled himself back up, then walked down to the burning wrecks and his colleagues, and in that moment also the Zeilwies officers arrive…

HARALD WALKOWSKI, IF YOU EVER THROW BURNING PATROL CARS IN MY DIRECTION AGAIN…

Frank, the brakes failed due to fade. That car was trash.

YES, AND THE OFFICER IN ZEILWIES TOLD YOU SO!

Since when does he listen to others, Frank?

From tomorrow on! At least I hope so…
