I had a fully compliant entry ready, but refrained from submitting upon realizing that I could never match the high aesthetic standards of this round.

Anyway, the reviews are set to be as entertaining as ever - especially with such a large field.

Yeah, I submitted early but wow, the aesthetic bar for this round is crazy high, hope that my entry makes it up in other ways, hehe.

I already expect to be binned lol. I think my GMI 370 is too mildly styled…

Round 0 is without description.

████████████

Sometimes, things just don’t go to plan, do they?
It’s hard when things such as that happen.
But you know what? Not every adventure has to come to a happy ending.
And when it doesn’t come to a happy ending, don’t be an asshole. Just go on about your day and don’t bother anyone about it.
You sometimes, just don’t realize it.
There’s always a better tomorrow.
Always.
Right?

As the sun began rising over the horizon, shining through the cracks and gaps between the town’s buildings, in one of ████████’s residential corners, Grace’s eyes had begun fluttering open. She sat up from the large bed she was sleeping on, and instantly felt a shudder as the cool coastal morning breeze made its way through the narrow gap between the apartment’s windows.

A haze filled her mind as she attempted a recall of the memories of the previous night. Something about meatloaf, eating, and smooth music as the haze gave way to a vivid memory of… ████████.

As she recalled the events, a realization of her current state came onto her, and as she looked down at her body, she found herself bare, and that explained the shudders.
Looking next to her, the Detective was still fast asleep, also in an unclad state, the thin blanket barely covering ███ nude body.

Grace got out of the bed, quickly shutting the window to avoid more cold air from seeping in, before heading back to the bed to double check on █████. ███ was indeed in a deep sleep. It was the weekend after all, and the Detective had been through quite the week. From busting a ██████ case, to successfully stopping a suspicious delivery, and getting stripped of ███ work vehicles, thus being forced to buy a new one.

She smiled at the sleeping figure, before covering ███ with a blanket and getting dressed to prepare for the morning. Their clothes lay on one side of the room on the seating area, and as Grace picked hers up, she felt her cheeks heat up slightly as a vivid recall of the events that unfolded began playing back in her head, again.

“Oh dear, I sincerely hope that we didn’t do too much last night…” She said as she glanced over her shoulder, and saw the Detective had still been undisturbed and remained in a slumber.

Grace finished her preparations, she looked at the clock and quickly made a note to be left on the door before she grabbed a spare key laying on the kitchen counter, and went out to buy themselves a meal for the morning.
A short stroll away from the Detective’s apartment building, is among the more famous seafood restaurants in town, also known as “Belle’s Bells”.

Upon entering the store, she was greeted by the owner of the store herself, who she had known quite well already, thanks to the numerous times she and the Detective had eaten here on their happy little dates.

“Guten morgen, Grace.” The older woman said with a smile, her thick Hetvesian accent seeping through.

“Good morning, Kristina. I’ll be having the usual breakfast meal, for two.”

“The usual again, huh? Why not change things up a bit? But sure I guess, coming right up! Timothy! Northern Kipper, for two!”

With some clanging about in the kitchen, the meal was being prepared.

“So, Mrs. █████████, how are things going with you and your ██████?” Kristina said with a smug face. Implying she had a clue as to what the two were up to.

“H-Hey! We’re not going that far just yet… Besides, I don’t think we could… get… married anyway. It seems like an unlikely possibility for the two of us.” Grace said as she sat down at an empty table. Fumbling with her hands as she gave it some thought.

Kristina looked at Grace. She obviously knew exactly what was going on between them, even then, she couldn’t help but wish that the two would finally just go on along.

After a moment of awkward silence, the meal was ready. One of the restaurant’s employees placed Grace’s meal on the counter, with a little tag on it to signify it’s hers.
Grace stood up from the table, she paid for the meal in exact amount before grabbing the take-out and saying thanks.

“Auf wiedersehen, Grace. I’ll see you soon.”

An awkward exchange of reactions later, and she was out of the store, the thought about her marriage with the Detective still lingering in her mind and somewhat clouding her thoughts.

After a short stroll, she made her way back to the apartment, opening the door with the spare key she took from the kitchen, to find that the Detective was still sleeping.
She sighed, and placed the food atop the counter, hoping that the scent of breakfast would eventually wake ███ up.
Not wanting to disturb her loved one, she decided to sleep on the sofa for the time being.

Local harbour monster chooses the vehicles to go into the wagger pagger bagger.
Lore can’t save you from the might of their tentacles and their desire for realism.
i probably did something wrong with the ruleset because holy shit that’s a lot

1959 Armor Havana

@GassTiresandOil
Overhead Cam V8 and a stressed engine.

1959 Zephorus Instigator

@Riley
Overhead Cam V8 and all-around disc brakes in something that is beyond the Detective’s realism price bracket or something along those lines. Basically, didn’t exist on a car that the Detective was looking for.
Quite the shame since it’s a great looking car. Maybe the harbour monster will like it?

1956 Staier Grizzly

@nightwave
Why are you using Super Leaded in a vehicle that makes barely 170 horsepower? Overhead Cam, too on a V8.

1959 Joyeux 3000 Decapotable

@CriticalSet9849
No real issues other than the fact that it used an Automatic Locker. Those aren’t Limited Slip Differentials, nor are they posi diffs. Another shame since it is a nice looking convertible. Harbour monster will enjoy this one for sure.

1959 DiClemente Pescespada GT

@bilobilo
Incorrect engine naming scheme.

1958 Ellatone Insignia II

@T_Martin
Low speed steering graph is… much to be desired.

1959 Husar Lancet 214

@ImKaeR
Another overhead cam V8.

1959 Schnell 20_4 1600

@interior
Staggered tyres, and a ridiculously tiny engine (With racing carburettors and Super Leaded fuel ??) that completely misses the brief.

1959 Kaizen SCP22o USDM Interceptor Package

@66mazda
Another one with automatic lockers, and has all around disc brakes, a feature not exactly meant for the kind of vehicle I was asking for.

1959 Mons Albatros

@cake_ape
Automatic Lockers =/= posi diffs. Also, independent rear suspension in what looks to be a very American-inspired design.

1959 Manda Kurama 3.59

@RAZR
All around disc brakes, all around double wishbone, and a 3-litre inline 6 SOHC that runs on 98 Super Leaded but only needs Regular (and makes terribly low power).

1959 Stevenson SS V8

@george_m997
All around double wishbone suspension.

1958 SMC Dynatom

@JCurtiss96
Stressed engine components and knocking.

Walther Northfield GT

@Th3maldonado
SPACE AGE TIN CAN BOTTOM TEXT
Has a monocoque chassis in a car that doesn’t exactly look like it should be using it for its period.

Privateer - Cougar IS

@LS-Vehicles
All around double wishbone suspension, and an unusual carburettor layout with equally unusual fuel choice for the vehicle.

1955 MAHG Tsi 25cv

@S31
WOOO SPACE AGE ROCKET ENGINE AND LANDING LEGS YEEE.
Instabinned for all-around double wishbone suspension as well as overhead cam on a V8.

1959 Alira Stintson

@HelloHi
YOOOO IS THIS THE NEW SATURN V THAT LAUNCHED SPUTNIK LETS GOO
Instabinned for an overhead cam V8.

1959 Eberhard Cardinair

@ThatCarMadGamer
The course of true love never really did run smooth, did it?
Instabinned for overhead cam V8. Absolute shame since this is really a beautiful entry.

1959 Adenine Veranda

@phale
A few years too early for the FWD V8 landbarge, aye? Patience, I love a certain time traveler as much as you may do, but you might mess up the timeline, jumping eras like this!

Host's note on realism instabins

While designs with Overhead Cam V8s existed in the 1950s, they certainly were not featured on these kinds of vehicles in these kinds of price ranges.
Disc brakes all around were definitely a thing in the 1950s for cars I was looking for, but were too big of an outlier for this challenge and some didn’t really work well realistically with some engineering choices for some of the cars here, hence the realism instabins.
As for automatic lockers, no shit Sherlock you’d get binned for them! Those are literally off-roader equipment and not the posi diffs or early LSDs people usually mix them up with.
And as for monocoque chassis, there were indeed cars of the era with them, but like disc brakes, were too huge of an outlier and it is somewhat my mistake for not clarifying that you will get binned for them.
A lot of the instabins here can be attributed to my inexperience in hosting a challenge as large and as realism focused as CSR. I apologize, please do not spread any form of sodium chloride. p l e a s e

anyway like a good forum challenge host i’m gonna disappear for two weeks then release the

Unfortunately there wasn’t any other way to fit a V8 into the ET limits. Better luck next time. Maybe you should of thought of that for the rules.

I managed to fit a perfectly era correct Pushrod V8 at 6L and Cast iron block and heads in with the limits. No quality slider trickery either. I’d be happy to let @variationofvariables share details of my engine, but I beleive it also had dual 2 barrel carbs, and cast log headers. Anyways it made like 200 Bhp and 300 Ib/ft of torque

My Engine Design

As you can see all perfectly within Limits. They key to any CSR is to read the breif carefully before submitting. In this round a High priority feature was the realism of your entry. In the 1950’s most V8’s were pushrod engines with the ones that are not being exotic engines made by bespoke manufacturers, aka the equivelent of todays supercars. As for suspension, most still used live axel on the rear with drums and double wishbone up front with drums in the early '50s and disks starting to appear on higher trim level models in the late 50’s. As for monocoque chassis, that’s a hard one, as most of the American Land Barges didn’t start to adopt it until the mid 60’s.

When it comes to American car design, I highly recommend watching Junkyard Gold on Motor Trend on Demand. It’s extremely educational, especially for people like myself who arent from the US.

Just wanted to say I fit an OHV V8 in a roadster with ET that fit. :man_shrugging:

I had a similar design, but smaller 292 all-cast Pushrod V8 based on the Y-Block, one 4BBL and -2 for the bottom end quality, that was it. 200hp, 275 lb-ft. Simple engine.

I do however expect that, beside some capacity/carb setup differences, most finalists motors will be very similar in terms of numbers/output, but I could be wrong.

interesting

Yeah I’d agree with that. Considering my engine would be around 360 Cui, the power difference seems about right, considering you have better fueling, and maybe a better cam than mine

i had ohv because buick had it in 56 and thats an instabin…

OHV is a pushrod engine, not overhead cam.

sweetheart, OHV is pushrod, and the one you have (according to Yuri anyways) is an OHC, overhead cam

oof
haven’t been called sweetheart for a while

Anyways, lets not let this lead to arguements, I’d suggest chatting about it on Discord now, don’t want the Mods closing this thread because it gets too spicy…

Interesting. When I looked a building a pushrod V8 the only way to get in under the ET was with a flat plane crank or negative quality. Could there be a difference with open beta and the stable version or something to cause this?
EDIT: Gah, ignore me. I forgot that was before the ET was raised.
