Drag Racing Challenge ROUND 13: 3 Cylinders Light Weight Sport Budget! Deadline 15/11/2016

had to swap the I6 Turbo of this car to reach those ridiculous prestige stats… currently running 1:11:73 with a consumption below 10 l/100 km and 35k to spare. consumption and price are not really an issue here at all, are they?

no. but you maybe hard pressed for drivability if you go too powerful

The NA V12 monster I am considering for this challenge sits under the $180k estimated price cap with markups, but only just, although I had plenty of comfort, sportiness and prestige to spare. Being naturally aspirated, I managed to squeeze >40 drivability out of it and still managed a 1:12.8 at the Airfield Track. It does 0-60 mph in 3 seconds exactly, but although it looks and sounds insane, I am not sure it will be fast enough…

Plan B for me would be to build a smaller car with a turbo V8, but the turbo lag could reduce drivability and comfort to below the minimum threshold. I still think I can make this alternate design work, though, but would rather wait until others have shown their hand before following suit. In fact it turned out to be even heavier due to the need to accommodate high-quality luxury interior and entertainment fittings just to keep the drivability above the threshold, although it was a tenth quicker to 60 and 0.6 seconds faster around the Airfield Track. Even then, I was not entirely sure it would be enough of an improvement.

well, can it do the half mile?

Originally, my “Plan B” entry had over 1000 bhp. However, to keep the drivability above the threshold value of 35, in addition to using a more upmarket interior I had to dial back the boost, among other things, and it ended up with just under 800 bhp, which made it barely any faster around the Airfield Track or through the half-mile than the 12-cylinder beast I was also considering. It wasn’t much cheaper either. But both cars managed a half-mile time in the low 16-second bracket, which seems promising for now.

So who do I send the export to for scrutineering?

@JohnWaldock, as race host, or @Darkshine5 as an independant scrutineer?

First Order Automotive would like to present our entry for the DRC round 8.

The Vampyre…

Erm…advertising department…WTF is THAT??? We said VampYre…you know, as in OUR CAR!!!

sigh

send it my way.

Just a hint, try changing things around the car, not just the engine, things like suspension, tyres, gears, and others. Just try to make it balanced, you could keep a lot of power by doing it.

For the record, is the 1/2 mile track we’re using the swanson proving grounds 1/2 mile?

Gday guys i have had complete and utter computer failure and only have a 8 yr old phone to post this on. So @JohnWaldock will be your only authority for this round. I will be out until about the 15th grrr

As stated in the original post by @Darkshine5, the Swanson Proving Grounds will host the half-mile competitions for this round. Testing can also be conducted there to give an indicator of how well your entry will stack up against other cars. So far I have managed low 16s with the NA V12 prototype I recently built - faster than what @AirJordan has managed thus far. I won’t show my hand until anyone manages sufficiently faster half-mile times, though.

I started building my first prototype (well first one was only to make sure the rules make sense but that one is gone) and so far I found it quite a challenge (damn that comfort is high) doing 17.70 in-game 1/2 mile and I started to realise that extra thousands spend on engine do not make a difference anymore…

tell me about this… 8yo smartphone thingy…

Man, I spend more than half the budge just on quality sliders to make the drivability, confort and pretige under the rules, this things are really high, even more the confort. It cost me around 1s at the airfield track, but I forgot to test at the 1/2 mile track hahaha

cough superslow cough :smirk:

The Vagabond looks unassuming but is a proper beast. One question, though: how on earth did you keep the drivability and comfort levels above the thresholds specified by @JohnWaldock with such a powerful car?

A very frustrating blend of suspension tweaks, interior choices, electrickery and basically giving everything a once-over looking for driveability! There’s no magic bullet; just lots of tweaks and compromises… :triumph:
