It would be nice if there was some functionality for expanding plot size.
Ether by paying extra (more than it would have cost to by the right size from the start)
Or for a more resonable cost event based. (I don’t know if / what type of events will exist in the final game) But an event that states that an adjacent plot is up for sale next to your factories could be helpful for an expanding company that for example wants to expand its engine factory beyond what was initially planned.
Wouldn’t that make the initial decision of choosing a plot pretty meaningless? It would have to be MUCH more expensive to upgrade later then, but balancing that isn’t all that easy because the ratio of plot / factory costs vary over the years.
Well right now its basically just tied to starting money now so its sort of meaningless to. If you can afford it grab a bigger plot you should if you are even remotely planning to grow, and we have no good way of dealing with a to small plot currently… Set it to really low automation and build test cars to get familiarity? Sure if we had concept cars or manufacturer race teams in the far future it could be used for that. But otherwise a tiny plot from a low money start is just a wierd property you hold on to with no real use once you have grown out of it.
And yes it should be much more expensive to do later on since you will be buying up land that is supposedly used and not really intended for sale. (At least unless you get the mentioned event) The high cost could also simulate actually moving a factory (something that is not unheard of in real life)
I can see your point. Once you’re past the early stages of the lite campaign and you’re playing as a mass market manufacturer then small & Tiny plots start to have very little use.
some suggestions
Perhaps the full campaign will allow us to sell redundant plots, the sale price could be tied into that region’s economy and so varies according to how well it’s doing (maybe the same could be applied to purchases too?)
Another idea is allow the same items to be made in more than one factory. As an example, your recently launched econobox is doing exceedingly well and demand outstrips production. Your engine factory production can be increased to satisfy demand, but your car factory can’t as it’s already running at max. It would be great if you could tool up one of your spare factories to cover the shortfall.
I can see huge complications implementing this one though, one of which would be the same car made in two different factories could have different levels of quality, reliability, etc depending on how the factory is tooled. Although this was / is a problem IRL
Selling plots and factories will definitely be a thing in the grand campaign, with the price depending on the economic situation. Also you will be able to assign more than one factory to a production, these are all limitations of the Lite Campaign, the underlying design of the game supports that already, as car productions are seen as “batches” that carry their individual stats from production, etc.
