I know I may be rehashing an old topic, and I searched to see if I could find the thread I posted on before about it. I still would really like for the FWD transmissions to be re-scaled so we may be able to fit more realistic engine sizes into a fwd car. I have tried using the Macphersons up front to help, but doesn’t help. The Toyota 3S had a bore of 86mm, and almost no car body the size of a Celica can accept that engine. probably low on the list, but isn’t there just a way that you can just rescale the transmission to be a little smaller as a temporary fix.
This isn’t directly related, but the topic of longitudinal FWD has been discussed, if it was added, it would allow for larger but heavier FWD cars, and also allow for easier conversion to AWD. It will come eventually, it’s just not very high on the Priority list.

If you feel desperate however, what I do, is I longitudinally mount the Engine, set it to AWD, and just set the power distribution to 100% front, although this has a very big impact on weight and performance.
I understand what you are getting at, but I feel like to accurately recreate a first gen focus etc. this issue needs to be addressed.
In the closed beta we have remade the gearbox models for transverse FWD engine layouts, making them significantly smaller, so you will be able to fit larger engines into your cars using that configuration.

Will you add a 3 axel gearbox, like the one in the Volvo 850 and S80, to fit a I5 or I6 transverse?
That’s not planned, no, but you should be able to fit an I5 or I6 in transverse with the smaller gearbox already maybe not quite as large (don’t do double wishbone)
Sump mounted gearboxes are what we need for transverse I6

It has been a few months since I started this thread. For a while I was able to get some bores as big as 75mm into some fwd bodies, but after I opened up the new open beta and loaded a car that 2 weeks ago the engine fit in, it is now to big to fit in the car. The remodeling of the transmission was nice, but the problem is that the differential housing is locked to the center of the car making the engine to be forced into just the driver’s side of the car, basically “halving” the space for the engine. I’m sorry that I keep going on and on about this, I just feel this issue lends to a really unrealistic fwd design

Making the car’s centerline be the mounting plane for the transverse engines is severely limiting the maximum size, and unrealistically so - I haven’t worked on every car in the world, but I have seen far too many engine bays, and I can’t recall a single car/truck that mounts the engine to the trans right at that centerline - it needs to be offset one way or the other, and not only for realism, but the aesthetic aspect would be a boon as well. I imagine in real life, not only would the offset mount make packaging simpler, but imagine how bad the east/west weight balance would be if the entire weight of the motor was on one side or another - yes, it could probably be accounted for by moving ancillaries around, and the weight of the trans, but I’m pretty sure that the engine itself is going to be over half the weight of all non-symmetrical components.
I’m going to keep looking to see if I can fine a car with a transverse motor mounted right on center like that, but so far I haven’t.
(FWIW, I’m still running the last build, I don’t like the buggy betas so I wait.)

Bump, does no one care? I feel like this would be a pretty easy fix, I’m no programmer, but I feel that if even with the current models if you locked the flywheel to 3/4 to one side if would fix this problem.
