The year is 1988, the Lancia Delta has proven that AWD has effectively ended the Era of the RWD Rally car, but once again if you wish to enter the production class, you are going to need to meet the minimum sales numbers to enter, time to start designing the new wave of cars.

BENCHMARK CAR STATS: This is only the Benchmark car, but it gives people an idea of what can be/cant be done with a glance.

Everything seems OK except the power restriction, it seems too restrictive personally. Perhaps 185 - 225 instead?

It does seem just a tad bit unessacary to limit Horsepower on the production models. On the race models, sure. I also think comfort should at least be lifted up to regular value, because it’s somewhat important on a regular car.

Bumping comfort to avg sounds good. Now the reason I restricted power was to keep the cars inline with their real world counterparts. Now I would consider an expansion on the power range, but I would still like it to be restricted below 230hp as the high range.

Does this sound acceptable?

I am guessing this would be a no…

I saw the mini truck body and couldn’t help myself

Sounds good to me!

why not use the law that US used.
instead of limiting the overall power, just limit the power per liter allowed?

althought it will be more work for you to calculate all the cars power

That would basically only allow for bigger engines. We have 7 liter big blocks in America for a reason.

i mean both. limit the size to 2l but limit the max output to something per litre. well… it’s essentially making an HP limit, but it’s also limiting the power of the smaller engine if anyone were to choose smaller and lighter engines

Perhaps, but I have a split tier for the engines, allowing up to 1998cc, and 2798cc, the reason I chose a Maximum HP of 204 is it will keep these cars inline with their real world counterparts of the late 80s which were built for the real Group A, the road going versions featured ~ 190-220hp and all had similar weights.

The best part, in my opinion, is that by limiting the upper HP to 204, and combined with the minimum weight and robust budget, will allow for diverse engine builds, for both a 2.0L I4 OHV 2v Turbo, and 2.8L V6 DOHC 4v will produce 204hp for similar costs in 1988.

At least that was my thinking when I did this.

Is this competition still open?

Will begin soon, the revised rules will go up tonight if I finish the reviews for the BiC tonight after work.

Would it be possible to allow two door four seat coupes? After all, the Toyota Celica competed in Group A.

Rules slightly revised, please post any questions or comments on the rules. Planed start date is 10/30/15

Seems interesting… I will submit a car. The question is… which brand? Probably Znopresk, it is more rally oriented than the BMMA.

Also is there a way for us to verify if the vmo aero drag issue has been fixed? I actually would like to use them (because frankly they look good), but don’t want to mess up the stats!

I would be more than willing to lift that restriction, if we can get some solid evidence that this has been addressed.

VMO’s mods have increased in quality since the beginning. The poly count can be a bit too high on some meshes (mostly the vents), but this shouldn’t be too big of a deal on a modern computer.

The problem is not the polycount, it is the disparity between Aero vs cooling. ‘Back in the day’ before the Steam workshop, they were known for having no negative aero properties, while providing amazing cooling.

So long as this is fixed, I am willing to allow them.

Is it too late to suggest a rule?

I ask because well…there is one car I actually had in mind for something like this from the 1984 contest, my Varro.

But the base body was from 1975, and given this is 1988, I’m SOL in that regard (and wish the body was newer but rules are rules and them’s the breaks), cause I really wanted to take a jab at a newer version of said car in a contest.

I realize though I’m not making that best a case…that being for cars from the older contest could be revised or updated for this one.

If not…then oh well, I’ll just get to making a newer car soon as I can.

Again…sorry for not saying it all well, my excuse being multi-tasking and …life.
