Idea for start of campaign

The following is basically an idea for the start of the campaign in the game which I personally think would be quite good, anyway here we go:

You start the campaign in 1940, now as most of us know this was the start of World War 2, which most nations played a part in, therefore I think this would be a good theme to start off with. At the very start of the campaign after you’ve chosen what nation you will be based in and name etc…, there will be a brief storyline of how possibly you and a brother/friend/father (or vice versa if you are a female character), was extremely interested in car design and engine design and you have slowly gathered together a small workshop with your partner, enabling you to be able to build basic engines and cars to fuel your hobby, now because of the rise of the war effort in your chosen country, word got round to a local administration office of your hobby, and gave you a contract to build a basic engine that could be used in a tank (this part can obviously be changed on what kind of vehicle to put the engine in), and then this would lead into the engine tutorial. In the engine tutorial obviously it would give the player a tutorial on how the engine builder works and so forth, but it should also guide the player into building the exact correct engine for the contract they have been given, so once your prototype engine has been built, it is shipped to the administration office or some sort of army department, where it is critically analysed, and funnily enough perfect in every way for there requirements, so they then give you a bigger contract on producing these engines, and yet again another tutorial would be put in place for this section, and then because of the success of your engines this is how your hobby has now become more into a business by making your first large sums of money from the success of it.

Now later on in the year (1940 still), a competition between all car/engine manufacturers of that particular nation is staged, to build a new luxury car for the leader/monarch of the country in aid of the war effort (like in terms of moral and national pride I guess), and obviously as a small coach-builder you accept the challenge, and then this leads into the car design tutorial, and then a small tutorial on building appropriately sized engines for different car bodys etc…, and then tutorial on gearboxes, wheels, brakes, suspension etc…, and then finally an overall tutorial on production. Your entry is then entered and based on statistics generated from the game, as this last part was more open to the user for designing, you will either win it or come second or third (basically so they still get a bit of a financial gain), and because of the success of your initial engine and then the success or relative success of your first car, you are now free to build cars and engines, or accept contracts/grants at your discretion.

So that is my basic idea, its a bit holey here and there, which is ok I guess as it’s just an idea. Anyway I would look forward to hearing feedback as everyone has different opinions. And finally thank you for taking the time to read all of that.

I think that @Killrob said that the campaign starts in 1946.

And there are only 3 nations in the known world…with Gasmea being big and rich the “world” war would last 1 hour and 28 minutes (assuming the Gasmeans stopped for lunch).

Trust me, if I know Gasmeans, they’d be stopping for every meal of the day and then some. :stuck_out_tongue:

How about if the game ask you questions before the campaign starts (nationality, job, experience or staff like that) and based on the answers you’ll get certain quantity of money or even buildings or workshops.

Example
you choose Gasmean
previous experience: military mechanic
Middle age (30-40)
And the game will give you an small workshop with a low quantity of money

Fruinian
previous experience: race driver
young (20-30)
Small workshop with large quantities of tech pool

Frunian
previous experience: inherit fortune
young
the game gives you lots of moneys and a medium sized factory

I mean I was assuming that in the future the games nations would expand to the real world rather than sticking to the 3 fictional ones

Also I didn’t know that the campaign was starting in 1946, I just presumed it started in 1940 because thats the furtherest you can go back, but I guess 1946 does make sense

Yes, the campaign starts in 1946 because of the chaos the war brings to the automotive markets. Of course there will be the “real world” to do your business in and not just 3 fictional nations.

Your idea for a tutorial is neat, albeit not what we plan to improve the tutorial(s) overall  more on that once it has been fleshed out.

For now (lite campaign) you will have the option to choose various things at the start of the campaign, like difficulty, capital, starting nation, starting year, tech pool, etc. No backstory is planned so far.

Some easy mode start I could think about:
A WW2 tank maker: Very good tech at Engines, transmission, suspentions, and iron machining, some soild tech for standard internal, good mass production ablity , reliablity boost…ect.
A WW2 plane maker: Very good tech at Aerodynamics and engines, good internal ergonomia, maybe earlier unlock for aluminum and turbo charger, geart qulity control…ect.
A WW2 small arms maker: good tech about metal process, internal ergonomia, Very good on mass production flow…ect.

I think that a system allowing you to choose between setting up your company or choosing one of premade starting companies, some of them with cars already on the market would be a good idea for the public release. It would allow for things like:
prancing horse company - any similarities with actual supercar making companies are completely coincidental
or for forum challenges like: save company X from bankruption
You’d just need a system for sharing those starting companies

Wait, instead of asking the developers to create scenarios, why we don’t ask for a scenary creation tool?
Like Software inc., when you start a campaign you can choose in the default scenario or create one (or download on the Workshop). In this tool you can choose the starting year, the tech pool, the starting money and facility and the competitors. With this tool we (the comunity) can create varius scenarios and make some interesting competition.

The plane maker should be the one to boost engine engenieering. Plane Engines were very advanced compared to tank engines.
