<2000 I assume?
1750cc here,ā110hp but I could go way past it. But since increasing the power got me worse times, I preferred to keep it low
I already saw many cars being too modern for the time, so I guess one doesnt need to be overly strict on this.
Most of the entries I saw are too āstockā and have way too many little bits and pieces (e.g. rivets and little details) imho. If you look at pictures of the real race, most of the sports cars are very simple and sleek, no bumpers, rivets, trim pieces, chrome, etcā¦ (there are exceptions of course, but overall it is the case I think).
I hope some consideration is given to this in judging the visuals, but I fear people will score detailed builds higher, even though theyāre not realistic (at least not for the sports category).
Just my 2 centsā¦
p.s. : this is not to take away from the amazing detailed builds people are making, which are way ahead of my design skills, just something that stood out to me in relation to the challenge.
I created a car for this challenge but I have problems with sending it to the repo. and I canāt download the track. can somebody test and post my car?
i can share for you specs and design of my car
I agree with this as I said. I donāt know if we should judge by realism or just cool factor.
Can I change the visual length of the wheelbase?
This was a lot of fun! Hereās my best effort - the Montrallier from the Motorcycle Manufacturer Esprit de Motos. Wanting to showcase their engine prowess, they bolted two of their high-revving 600cc inline-4 engines and joined them at the crank, stroked them out a bit, painted the engine block blue, and prayed that it wouldnāt explode in the Mille Monti.
If we put the years into consideration, the sports cars would be hand rolled aluminum panels on a spaceframe chassis. The reason you donāt see rivets on a lot of them is because they were sanded and painted. Sanding off the tops of the rivets saved weight. The Jaguar D type won LeMans in the mid 50ās for a few years in a row. The reason the hood is smooth is because it is a dozen different panels riveted together and covered with a filler. The rest of the car is aluminum panels with showing rivets.
I feel the most obvious issue is that a lot of designs will be based on bodys from the 1960s, which makes them by default not period correct
Dear engineers, I hereby present to you the car created by my buddy kramsenkramer on my copy of Automation Tycoon:
When Jacques Dubois heard about the development of the Agenta Tipo S by the car brand Freccia for the Mille Monti 1953, the archrival from pre-war years of Etoile dāArgent, in 1948, he knew he had to do something about it. Thus, in 1950, the Etoile dāArgent Faucon Volant 1300 was introduced.
| Engine: 1289cc Inline 4 | Peak Power: 90hp @ 5600 rpm | Peak Torque: 115.3nm @ 5400 rpm | Top Speed: 135 km/h | 0-100 km/h: 11.0s | Weight: 615.5kg |
May the better one win!
On the finish line with this build, I understand that it may appear āstock-lookingā and not resemble a āgenuineā race car. However, it represents my vision of a sporty two-seater that could one day become an automotive legend.
Hello Der Bayer, Iām a new subscriber, do you have a discord channel I could join ? If yes, could you post the link ? I couldnāt find it on youtube, thank you !
So we are getting some kind of roelplay element going? Nice
Since thereās so many entries, for the sake of consistency I have my own sort of system for judging visuals where about a third of the score comes from being era appropriate, a third from cohesive and consistent design, and a third from attention to detail and realism. I try not to be overly harsh (there were some real āfixture collagesā in LM), but I already know thereās a few cars that look straight out of 1965 that I canāt rate as highly as something appropriately 50s.
That said, there are only so many bodies to choose from that are era appropriate, which I will take into account.
I see people getting estimated times of ~12 hours, so I know Iām going to fail, but Iāve literally never submitted anything to a challenge like this before, so Iām happy to send in my 14-hour car anyhow. Iām hoping maybe Iāll get lucky by going for such a small engine and being allowed to leave early means I might arrive early somewhere somehow.
Continuing with the discussion, in my opinion thereās not much space for too modern design, the bodies are limited to the age and most design are similar between the 10 more or less yearsā¦ I donāt think we are going to see an AM Valkyrie designā¦ and come on guy, we are racing a non-existing country, Iām totally fine with most creative directions in this aspect. Thatās the beauty of community voteā¦
By the way, I would never guessed that this 37ās auto union was not from the 80ās without research.
Porsche was a genius
I think I did an okay job. Iām not used to min-maxing for sports cars. Iām usually a fuel-economy min-maxer for city folk and family cars.
Edit: I just noticed quite a few people posting use Km/h, sorry for any confusion my top speed may cause.
