My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And food

Originally it had a ~90hp VW aircooled engine in, suspension that was about half as good and shite tyres, so it’ll be rather more!

with a supercharged Honda VTEC engine in it I guess about 140mph+ depends on weight and stuff

It’s geared to top out at ~130mph. If I fit the shorter ratios, about 115.

not bad for a rough guess I have to say but I guess you want all that juicy suckling torque to be available on Rally spec gear ratios if that world rally spec exists haha

Well, the aim is to have a choice of two gears which the car will pull well in for any given corner - as the conditions change so much from one run to the next you might find a corner you were changing down to 2nd for is suddenly better in 3rd because it’s so slippery you can’t put the power down anyway, or one you were taking in 3rd has been dug out in the middle and the car sinks into the earth (it takes SERIOUS power to shift a car even when it’s only sunk a couple of inches into some mud) and 2nd would be better.

In either case a gearchange in the middle of the corner may be the worst thing as you will loose momentum for half a second, so having ratios and a spread of torque wide enough that it can manage in either gear, whilst it may cost you a tiny bit of outright pace on the smooth stuff, can easy gain seconds per corner when the going gets tricky.

I dont know if this exists or not…would a dual gearbox system work?

No.

A nice sequential 6 speed gearbox would, but the price is about the same as it cost for the entire car

did a bit of research into what I said and that gearbox I said doesnt exist but yeah a 6 speed sequential would be pretty awesome but the cost would make you think again about it…

£12,000 for one for this, or £8000 for a 5 speed that’s not as strong…plus £1000 for the LSD, and another few hundred for the gearlinkages…

£21,000… :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Yeaaah, sequential boxes are… pricey :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah I get the picture now here are some MAAAAD F1 statistics on what one of those cars costs…have the medics on standby please…the costs are going to give you a heart attack!

  1. Engine (£107,000 each)
  2. Gearbox (£65,000 each)
  3. Monocoque (£58,000)
  4. Telemetry (£53,000)
  5. Steering Wheel (£20,000)
  6. Front Wing (£10,700 each)
  7. Rear Wing (£6,500 each)
  8. Exhaust System (£5,800 each)
  9. Fuel Tank (£5,300)
    10 - Under Works (£4,200 each)
    11 - Bodywork (£4,200 each)
    12 - Steering Column (£2,100 each)
    13 - Dashboard (£1,700)
    14 - Suspension (£900 each, 20 parts needed)
    15 - Wheel/Alloys (£700 each)
    16 - Brake Discs (£600 each)
    17 - Tyres (£310 each)

Total cost of Formula One cars;
2 cars - £4,278,760
Each - £2,139,380

You can add 10x that amount for development costs

yeah Ferrari for instance spends…wait for it and are those medics on standby…£125 million on their R and D

Yeah, I spent about £1.25 on R and D

Or whatever a pencil, a notepad and 6 pints of beer costs… :stuck_out_tongue:

that would be about £20 Daffy xD

Guys, stay on topic please!

(Also, Juno, your list adds up to 367,940£ and not 2,139,380£. And don’t answer that in here!)

Hoy, Killrob, that wasn’t on topic!

phillip , have you ever done a dyno on that buggy? i bet the transmission losses are far less than what you get in an S2000.
Q2: is that a 2.0 or 2.2?
