Pneumatic Valve Spring

Hi Devs team,

I was thinking about some hi-end equipment that you can add to the game for racing car scenario or just for sandbox insanity

What do you think of Pneumatic Valve Springs ?

it allow a lot higher peak rpm, but on the other hand it is a very exclusive component (expensive)

and the fact it is a small piece save you a headache to artwork it !

Dont they use something similar on F1 engines now?

Exactly

And I think Koenigsegg (Hope I got that right) is looking into using pneumatic valve springs in one of its future cars.

It would be totally pointless.

Even the most aggressive cam profile in the game won’t let an engine breathe properly much past 9000 rpm, the maximum allowable redline is “only” 12,000 rpm, and we can’t make engines with a crazy bore/stroke ratios. They might be worthwhile for a race engine if those issues changed, but those issues won’t change because automation is about production cars and production car engines (for which, btw, pneumatic valve springs are wholly unsuitable anyway).

we shall let the high and mighty DAFFY and KILLROB sort this out

The F1 style wouldn’t be of any use really as all they’re for is returning the valves successfully at crazy high RPM.

The Konigsegg valvetrain hardware WOULD be of use because it would allow for pretty much infinitely variable cam profile, so it’d completely blow everything else out of the water performance wise.

We’d consider implementing the 2nd one at some point in the future.

and what is the Konigsegg valvetrain ?

is it a pneumatic actionned valve ? so you can have like the perfect lift for any possible rpm ?

Pneumatic Valve spring only replaces the spring, nothing more. You still need a camshaft.

Alfa Romeo MultiAir.

Uses electrohydraulic actuated intake valves. Can simulate nearly any cam profile. Ultimate VVT and VVL system rolled into one.

I even think it can back the valve when the piston comes to the top, no problem with clearence, can therefore open fully VERY early.
