Powerful American Insanity National (COMPLETE)

I specifically asked Rx whether he’d run without traction aids and he was affirmative

Thx, hadn’t seen that. Will be good to keep in mind when reading Rx-7’s opinions on the cars.

That system feels like it disadvantages racecars as well as meme cars, so the final runs will be an interesting mix of both the best and worst.

I wonder if I should have persisted with a malaise era full size sedan with barely enough power to hit the speed minimum…

no offense but cool =/= good, just as cool =/= good

edit: good=/=cool i have no idea why i noticed this after 3 hours

Results Part 1

The first 10 runs have now been completed. Most of these cars were pretty tame, but that WILL change in the next batch of cars. cough cough glober But for now, here are the current standings:

Spreadsheet

I am too lazy to link the videos again, so check the spreadsheet and click on any of the times to watch their respective videos. Additionally, here’s a brief description of how each car felt to drive:

  • infiniti @Eskay - Very easy to drive with respectable acceleration, however it wasn’t that fun, especially on the highways, where it is e-limited to a mere 158 mph, even though it seemed like it could go faster.

  • voltari @vero94773 - Another AWD car, but with less power but also less weight; it felt surprisingly similar to the Vertex albeit slightly more prone to oversteer.

  • fwm @Vena.Sera423 - With 600 hp going to just the rear wheels, it’s already a huge step up from the last 2 cars. But it surprisingly handles well too, which earned it a second place finish so far.

  • talon @Eskay - Drives just like you expect a muscle car to, strong acceleration but a bit lacking in the corners. Additionally, this is the first car to go over 200 mph on the course, which allowed it to beat it’s stablemate.

  • valiantvx6 @mart1n2005 - Honestly pretty boring; a combination of low power and high weight makes it slow pretty much everywhere.

  • sinistra @Madrias - The only car so far where I had to keep traction control on, because otherwise it wheelspins like crazy off the line. It also really struggles in the corners weighing almost 5000 lbs and having medium tires, but where it really shines is on the highways, where it hauls ass up to 230 miles per hour.

  • a minivan @shibusu - And on the complete opposite end of the spectrum is this minivan, which is just pure depression with an anemic 210 hp and poor handling. No wonder this shitbox is last so far.

  • howitizer @Vena.Sera423 - A wild ride, with plenty of grip, when I kept it under control. It could have beaten the Ruger, but oopsie daisy I spun it out 3 times lolololol

  • helios Nocturne (not on forums)- Didn’t expect this to annihalate the competition, did you? But as it turns out, it’s actually a 600 horsepower monster with AWD and slicks, which allows it to be lightning quick and surpsingly easy to control, resulting in an insane sub-30 time, even in the group that’s supposed to be the most tame.

  • imos @Knugcab - Not much to say here, it’s quite similar to the Valiant being a RWD 6 cylinder with a 5 speed auto, but this felt slightly better to drive by being lighter.

Alright, now that the first batch is done, my next sanity degrader will be a weird sports car with less power than the minivan. Will the minivan finally have some competition? Oh, then there’s the glober. This will be fun.

Two things:

First, is Nocturnal not a forum member? Cause you don’t have them tagged next to their car.

Second, I do apologise if my machine is a boat, since I have only tuned it in Automation and haven’t driven it in Beam…

yeah, not on the forums

and don’t worry, I’m certain there are plenty of even worse cars that haven’t been tested in beam

The Xf Lattice is very nice handling I test drove it a lot to tune it just right

Regarding your remarks on the first set of timed runs:

I wonder how close it would have gotten to that time on regular sports tires instead of (semi-)slicks?

With that in mind, a more powerful, lighter trim, with a more aggressive setup (such as the one entered in CSR152) would have been a better choice for this time trial.

Heh heh, if you thought that trim of the Howitzer was wild, you should try my 785hp RWD version…
The Ruger is also a beast for a midsize super sedan also.

Having checked out the Grand Warden’s run, yeah, I could see that car was a handful.

Wow I really noticed later in the run the rear wheels kept losing traction, is that because Beam simulates tire wear? That’s so cool! The camera looks cool too it looks very actiony

I don’t know if Beam simulates tire wear yet, but what I’d place more bets on is that it’s the 870-ish horsepower stampeding through the rear axle, combined with some fatigue from driving it flat out.

There is a tire wear mod, but it’d be absolute hell to drive with it over such a long course, especially if you’re burning rubber on every corner. Those things would literally be smoldering and providing zero grip.

haha fuck no

that means i would have to drive carefully too (it is impossibe)

You’re gonna have to drive carefully, the more powerful of my 2 cars does not have TC but badly, BADLY needs it.

Should beat the current leader if you are able to handle it though

Results Part 2

Another 10 runs are now in the bag. There certainly have been a lot more ups and downs this time, but this just means were one step closer to much more unholy hellspawns. Anyways, here are the current standings:

Spreadsheet

Videos are linked in the spreadsheet as always. Here’s a description of how each car from this round drove:

  • car1 @DuceTheTruth100 - As horribly boring and slow as I expected. It’s so forgettable in fact, that I don’t have anything to say about it at all.

  • glober @shibusu - Handles just how you expect, really front heavy and a bit unstable at the hair pins. But HOLY SHIT IT IS SO FAST ON THE HIGHWAYS. Over 220 miles per hour in a Glober. Truly one of the globin’ moments of all time. The run could have gone better but whoops

  • thunderwolf @abg7 - Just an amazing all-rounder for the entire track. Grips well, accelerates quickly, and is fun to drive. It was quite a surprise that it finished so high considering what it is.

  • maraprageon @AndiD - Hail to the new king, baby! It’s another weapon with plenty of grip and acceleration, but because it has better gearing that doesn’t progressively get longer unlike the Helios, it has better mid-range acceleration, which allowed it do dethrone it.

  • cricketdore @mart1n2005 - A big boat of a car. Doesn’t turn that well, with quite a bit of understeer. Also quite slow with the power going through a lethargic non-shiftable 4 speed autobox. At least it has a somewhat decent top speed.

  • ferucci @04mmar - A bit low on power for what looks to be just a Ferrari, but I guess some costs had to be cut to get one under $40k. Despite that, it isn’t bad at all, being fast enough to earn e respectable 4th place.

  • ally Nocturne - Drives almost identically to the Helios; no wonder they finished within seconds of each other. Who would of predicted that from two 600 hp AWD cars? If only if it wasn’t speed limited, it could have easily beaten it’s stablemate.

  • yajirushi @Ch_Flash - Feels decently quick, but the suspension feels a bit too soft, and the brakes seem subpar. It also tends to oversteer sometimes.

  • rubik @Maverick74 - As it turns out, over 300 hp going to the front wheels in such a tiny car makes it quite a handful off the line, so I had to turn on traction control for this. Other than that, it feels decently quick, albeit the handling suffers from being top heavy.

  • turismo @Happyhungryhippo - How could a mid engine AWD supercar finish so poorly, you may ask? ITS THE FUCKING TIRES. All 450 horsepower is sent to some miserable 185/225 mm excuses for tires, and to ensure it handles as poorly as possible, the front 185 mm jokes have no offset adjustment at all, and the suspension is raised unnecessarily high. I’m glad I never have to drive this sorry thing again.

Now that the second batch is done, the shitshow escalates even further to the next one, starting off with what looks like to be a very potent supercar, a 600 horsepower front wheel drive boat, and a giant 1200 hp Rhania. I am already fearing for my life. :+1:
