Swanson 220 OP 1999 La Cream Edition
Let’s just pretend the cat approves, ok?
A 200-horsepower, quad-cam V4 with variable intake timing. A lightweight fiberglass body. An automatically-retracting soft top. Sport buckets. A state-of-the-art CD player. Six speeds. The Sunstorm, Somervell’s lightweight mid-engined sports car, had it all.
With a futuristic look and an emissions suite good enough to pass new-car emissions 9 years later, the Sunstorm was a comprehensive tech showcase - and a great car to drive. Learning from the failures of earlier US and European mid-engined small sports cars, it targeted an upmarket yet not terribly out-of-reach segment, leaving room to engineer out many inherent faults of an MR platform.
The convertible was not quite as focused, light and stupid-fast as was the T-top coupe of the same model - but lots of people paid for the chopped top, not surprising considering the more ‘distinguished’ - and, um, old - clientele of Somervell. These days, they are a favorite entry point into the sports roadster market - and appreciating by the second.
Ok time to post my 60s idiot I guess…
IMPORTANT MESSAGE
It seems like the latest patch have affected the cars more than I first realized. Since it has been out for a while, and since I have gotten quite a lot of submissions, I am not going to investigate who sent the cars in before and after the patch.
Hence, everyone that have submitted until now will get the chance to do a resubmission. It still has to be done before deadline, though. Unless more patches drop before deadline, this will NOT apply to later participants.
The following participants will get a chance to resubmit (just one time, though!):
@Happyhungryhippo
@quiz
@Ch_Flash
@HermannMatern
@nightwave
@skawkclsrn
@z2bbgr
@Arianne777
@Ludvig
@Mausil
@Texaslav
@Hilbert
@happyfireballman & @Vento
@moroza
Yes, I should have taken notice of this earlier. Sorry. It will maybe not be completely fair now and it is all my fault, but well…
Is it necessary to have a front license plate?
Here’s my entry again, revised to take into account the one-time resubmission opportunity:
The only mechanical changes are the addition of ESC and revised gearing for a sportier feel without compromising drivability.

C - Series, model F, 4 cilinders, 20 valves. Now available as a convertible.
I would prefer it, but since it is QFC I wouldn’t bin for the lack of one.
Just put a Arizona plate on it, front license plates aren’t required there!
Edit: Don’t know if a 2020 used-car price is required, but here is my used-car ad:
"Low Mileage, garage-kept 1984 Di-Ben Roadster for sale. Adult driven, less than 40K kilometers, professionally maintained. Blaze Red paint and Desert Tan top, same as in original advertisements shown below. Smooth and reliable 2.5 liter engine and 5-speed make this an easy car to have a lot of fun in.
