QFC71 - Took Her to the O [Closed, Done and Dusted]

Previous round:

Disclaimer: It should go without saying that I do not condone any illegal behaviour illustrated in this QFC, and if you are somehow inspired to do so, even after I have portrayed you as the corny suburban wannabe gangster kid, I do not take responsibility for any felonies or charges you amount. Takeovers are lame and so are you.

QFC71 - Took her to the O

“O’Block” (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada), c. 2025

20-year-old Edgar (EK.stayyclickin) tells people he’s from Toronto, especially “da endz”.

He’s actually from uneventful, quiet, peaceful Oshawa, whose crime rates are 46% lower than the Canadian average. Edgar just got his G license and has spent way too much time on social media watching videos of kids with shiestys and broccoli cuts ripping mad donuts in street takeovers in Oakland, Detroit, LA, and the likes.

As the budding enterpreneur he is, he has big aspirations to pioneer this culture to “the O Block” and be the OG to do so. What better way to this than to blow all his money on financing a vehicle that he would barely be able to afford, let alone drive in a straight line.

You are to make an obnoxious and rowdy used performance car from 2013. This will be EK.stayyclickin’s grand chariot to bring “the culture:smiling_face_with_horns:” over to the old white retirees of Durham Region.

RULES

The Usual Rules

  • Only entries made on the Stable / Al-Rilma version of the game will be accepted

  • Please provide at least one photo of the car as a reply to the post. It doesn’t need to be a full-blown ad, but feel free to make one if desired

  • Radial tires are required, and must end in 5 (I.e., 255 instead of 250). All Radial Race Tire types and the Radial Semi-Slick Compound are not allowed. The former done to keep things realistic to production vehicles; the latter in a similar vein, but also to offset the rather small service cost penalty they somehow have.

  • A 3-way catalytic converter (either kind) and at least one muffler is required

  • No V16s, no race / billet parts

  • No amount of positive downforce on the graphs on the aerodynamics page is allowed

  • Engine must meet WES 10 emissions at minimum

  • Interiors are not required, and will not be judged

  • ATS is prohibited for wheel/tyre width/diameter, camber. Minor wheelbase adjustments are allowed for styling, but do not use it to push your car into a different wheelbase class while maintaining the stats of the previous one

  • Superchargers are legal, but at a $300 service cost penalty for balance

  • Legacy car bodies (it should say “Legacy Car Bodies” in the mod name) are not allowed

Challenge-Specific Rules

  • While this is technically a used car challenge, assume that the vehicle you make is completely stock. I.e., design it as if it just came off the showroom floor with zero miles on it

  • For simplicity’s sake, Trim and Variant year must be set to 2013. Vehicle model and engine family year can be older but cannot be newer than 2013

  • RWD (rear-wheel drive) only. Edgar wants to do donuts. “Market research” revealed that 99% of the cars in sideshows were RWD.

  • Only Coupe, Convertible, and Sedan bodies are to be accepted, based on Edgar’s preferences and an unfortunate “market scan” of what cars I’ve seen in takeover videos

  • For 4-doors (differentiated from in-game “sedans” due to inconsistencies), 5 full (2 front, 3 rear only) seats are required. For 2-doors (differentiated from in-game “coupes” due to inconsistencies), a 2+2 (2 full seats front, 2 partial rear) configuration is required because of the kind of insane comfort advantage a 2-only config gives.

  • Transmission choices limited to Adv. Automatics, CVTs, and Dual Clutches. Edgar once drove his dad’s manual muscle car and triple-dipped the clutch into a fine soot. As a result, he is no longer permitted to buy a manual car as long as he still lives with his parents (which he still does through the challenge duration).

  • 95 RON/91 AKI (Premium Unleaded) fuel maximum. A lower-grade fuel may be used, but it will not be of benefit to scoring/judging

  • There is no hard wheelbase limit and I won’t bin you for going over, but as a guideline, keep it to roughly 2.5-3.1 metres

  • Maximum price of 29,500 Automation dollars in the “approximate cost” cell of the statistics tab. While this is a used car challenge and I could throw in a complex depreciation calculation, I would rather keep things simple.

  • At least Standard 10s safety. I.e., no 00s safety, no basic 10s

  • Max +4 tire quality. I understand tire quality cheese is a thing now (I did it in the previous QFC after all), so I’m capping this to +4 to still allow quality to be added, without going beyond the limits of a typical OEM. You don’t see Pilot Sport 5s on CR-Vs from the factory after all

Tech Pool

For simplicity’s sake, ease of judging, and to lower the barrier of entry, the tech pool is to remain on Automation defaults (5 on every value).

Now, handing the mic over to Edgar for…

Priorities

:star::star::star::star:

Realism

:sob:
(Translation: Make a car that would exist in real life. Min-max (E.x. crazy wide tires to cheese fuel economy, weird transmission choices, etc.) will be frowned upon)

Design

“Ong iont wanna be seen in no corn ahh mobile shit gon be on the gram w coils and the TEs styll :fire:

(Translation: Design is a high priority. Edgar wants to be seen in a cool looking car that will look flashy in all the sideshows he will definitely be in)

Some caveats:
- High detail =/= good design. Don’t worry about hyperdetailing your car, as long as detail’s not skimped so much that there are jarring flaws.
- I tend to award originality a lot more over near-exact replicas of irl cars. Being inspired by an irl car is totally fine (I do this a lot), making a near exact replica and rebadging / renaming it is less favourable

Prestige

“I fw the big blocks yk I fw the leather bitches love the ambient lights two twos iont wanna be seen in that base model”

(Translation: Big power? Big engine? Many cylinders? Really nice interior for the cyatties? The obnoxiousness and "look-at-me"ness of the car and its engineering matters a lot to Edgar. Do not discount this. While the raw stat matters, I will also be looking at this hollistically.)

Price

“Lowkey Im a brokie styll”

(Translation: The cheaper the better, but don’t compromise too much. Edgar’s got a budget after all)

:star::star::star:

Comfort

“Iont wanna be rocked around crodie u kno?”

(Translation: Edgar gotta chill sometimes, relax in that leather, and bump drill on the speakers, especially when his friends and potential love interests are in his car. Comfort is important when those times come.)

:star::star:

Alright, enough of Edgar.

Drivability

Edgar will turn off traction control like an idiot, but the easier to control the better.

Reliability

The more reliable the better. Edgar loves to clown on owners when their cars catch fire. He doesn’t want to be one of them.

Sportiness

I will use the statistic as a guideline but not an absolute. Sportiness still matters, but will be judged more on the hollistics

Fuel Economy

Let’s get this straight, we’re making cars that won’t be very fuel-efficient. However, the less time spent at the pump, the better.

:star:

Service Costs

This hasn’t even crossed Edgar’s mind, but for the sake of him, don’t make it astronomical.

Safety

Hopefully this will be sorted by the Standard 10s requirement. Regardless, don’t make an absolute death trap.

Since pushrod engines are relevant here I suggest giving them a bit of leniency with WES.

So if 2-door body style is used, that body variant must also have provision for a second row of +2 (reduced size) seats at minimum. 2-door coupes with 4 full-sized seats (2 each front and rear) are OK, though.

Pushrods aren’t that bad, folks just haven’t taken the time to learn the new systems properly. I managed to hit WES11 completely legally after about half an hour of tweaking, on both a naturally aspirated 4.7 making similar numbers to non-Shelby mustangs and a supercharged 6.1 making similar numbers to the CTS-V. No egregious cheese, just picking parts and sliders that help pick up the slack (AlSi block, alu head, low compression, pre-cat).

Is the resulting car super optimised? No, I auto-generated, cut some features to save some money and just focused on getting it legal, but you can get a pushrod to pass these laws without doing crazy stuff.

Same, my Ascot Renegade 460S (Civilian and Pursuit) was using a OHV V8 and hit WES 11.

Mine I could just barely have it working with pushrod but I had to use some quality spam. Although due to budget and Wes I changed to be ohv need to tweak around more though since I don’t make cars with pushrod or sohc v8s

Any 2-door body style must have the +2 (reduced size) seats - regardless of being classified as a sedan or coupe.

Conversely, any 4-door body style must have a total of 5 seats (2 front; 3 rear) - regardless of being classified as a sedan or coupe.

As for pushrods, I’m willing to relax emissions to WES 10 to still keep things a bit challenging to get them in the emission target, without too much compromise. Personally, I found hitting WES 11 with them a bit hard as well, while WES 10 was relatively challenging but much more doable.

I’ve updated the rules accordingly.

is there a limit on body age

No limit. I don’t know if safety still gets significantly worse the older you go though, so keep that in mind too.

DOHC is a viable option right? cause iim hearing pushrod and OHC so im not sure if i can use it, i know the Mustang uses it

I’m trying a DOHC I6 on one of my test mules, so it it indeed viable.

cool

guys, i accidentally made a mustang replica, i haven’t made a Japanese car yet so i might end up submiting something in the realm of that

I may or mayhap not be making a totally not dodge challenged.

Asking you another favour!

I’m gonna be honest, I want to keep the timeline of this challenge compressed, both for you and for me. With a lot of the rules sorted out thanks to everyone on the Discord and forums, I’m considering opening and closing this challenge a little earlier than planned.

However, this will still give until end of tomorrow to mend out any additional kinks in the ruleset.

As such, I’m soliciting your opinion with this poll, to close at 5 PM EST, on Friday, April 10:

  • Close rules delib and open entries on the planned date - Sunday, April 12, 11:59 PM EST, closing Sunday, April 19, 11:59 PM EST
  • Let’s close rules delib and open entries a little earlier! - Friday, April 10, 11:59 PM EST, closing Friday, April 17, 11:59 PM EST
