so had this idea, is it possible to add a multiplayer counterpart to the test-track and have actual weekly challenges and so on?
Sure, that’s planned and coming.
that would take of the factory race team and how you finance/let them practice, etc.
I don’t catch your meaning? There will be no factory race team manager of any sort.
ah, thought it was under consideretion still.
but i’m really happy to hear that there will be some online competition
Yes, it’s under consideration for a future expansion after the game is done
it would be awesome if there was a multiplayer mode that worked like gran turismo’s b-spec mode.
if tyre wear, fuel usage, temperature, weather, driver aggressiveness and overtaking would be simulated,
we could run live multiplayer races over longer distances.
that would be so much fun!
That sounds like something that either the devs do well after 1.0 release, or a modder does… also likely after 1.0 release. It’s not an easy thing to program, especially the part of overtaking.
that still should easier to do then a full on sim
Yes, it’d probably only take us 2 years or so as opposed to 5 years or so and a much bigger team for a proper race sim, so you are correct there.
And even then, 5 years isn’t enough these days!
Maybe if we find enough people interested in it, we can get together a second team, dedicated to racing expansion. I would help, but I am useless as a coder.
Unfortunately, developing a game takes more than a willing it.
If you’d asked me in about a year’s time, I’d be more interested in it, as I’m looking at working with artificial intelligence and should be trying to take a course in such next semester. However… racing game AI is extremely hard to make work competently. It’s just not anywhere as easy as something like an FPS or TPS.
If this will ever happen, i can make pretty good sprites.

Well yeah, I guess I should’ve been more specific =)
What I meant was if we can get enough capable people interested, we can get together a team.
I understood exactly that, and what I meant is that you need more than a capable team, namely lots of time (~10 manyears+) and money (~$300000+).
imho, the top-down look is more then enough for a good evening laugh, and some reference point for your cars against other player cars, because comparing numbers is boring
And that’s exactly what it’s for!
Well they said that it was impossible to have multiplayer in ETS2, but somehow it happened. Yes, it will take a long time to develop a racing manager expansion, no doubt about that, but it will probably happen at some point later on. (And I don’t mean a full on sim, just something basic, like pole position 2010 is very achievable for a small team of developers)
