RIGEL MOTOR - Spanish brand

From what I know, the entire Odiel line is built on one of the '88 Indicator body sets - I reckon it’s the smallest full set, with a 2.55m wheelbase. But why does the Plus Ultra’s V6 develop only a little bit more power than the Sport trim’s I4? I’m guessing it’s tuned for torque, not power, and therefore more suited to applications in small executive cars. At any rate, I’m sure it’s an SOHC unit, not a DOHC one like the G4, but still with four valves per cylinder instead of two.

Hello! Thanks for commenting and taking a look at the engines, it is appreciated.
The V6 engine, from the beginning I wanted it to be more powerful but my little engineering has not allowed me to obtain more power. I wanted it to be around 180/190 horsepower, but atmospheric. In the end it fell short because I designed it in such a way that it was the most efficient and had less gas consumption. The result is a V6 engine that has 35% more torque and only 5 horsepower more than the G4 (Tinto GTRS engine that I never uploaded to the forum)

The solution is on the way, a new coupe variant with crossover engines between the 100HP and 155HP G4s. Any advice? Thank you!

A DOHC 24v version of the V6, tuned for more power (around 225-240 bhp), would be a great choice for a range-topping super-high-performance trim - but the resulting variant would have to come with AWD as standard to make use of all the extra grunt. The result would, however, be a formidable rival to an E36 M3 or C36 AMG of the same era. And while you’re at it, you might want to create a period Super Touring race car based on the Odiel, if you can.

The truth is a good idea and I could apply it in the new coupe version for a more demanding public. Sports versions are always guaranteed sales and remain forever in the minds of gasoline lovers. :raised_hands::raised_hands:

Next big challenge: Hybrid / electric cars

With the recent Automation update it is possible to place electric vehicles and export them for BeamNG, it is a practice that I am learning about and would like to transfer to my series production vehicles.

My urban called “Rigel trës” that was born in 1994 as a prototype will incorporate a new hybrid engine and cosmetically an electric motor based on the first generation Toyota Prius, which after BeamNG exported can be driven in a way fully electric in the video game and it can be something interesting.

The mechanics are simple, a three-cylinder gasoline engine built entirely of aluminum and with low-friction parts, which will give us an engine that doesn’t spend much and gives us a generous 70 horsepower. Coupled to it, an electrical control unit that will manage the front axle incorporating electric power with its motor around 20 or 40 horsepower. The electric unit will be in charge of starting the car, helping by giving power to the front axle and an ECO function in which we can drive the fully electric car for a couple of kilometers.

Both its design and the idea of this vehicle have been based on the first generation Toyota Prius, the Honda insight or the EV-1 from General Motors.

I am sharing this information with you so that you can tell me about your experiences on exporting electric vehicles and as well as advice or help to create the most realistic model possible.

Rigel Odiel Cabrio / Coupe 1995

After the launch of the Odiel compact sedan in 1995, the coupé and cabriolet version reached the European markets to complete the range and approach a younger and more demanding audience.
These two new additions are totally focused on a young audience with increasing purchasing power who are looking for a sporty, fun, modern vehicle with high-tech mechanics.

With the arrival of these two new variants, the Rigel Odiel will be complemented with a new 1.9 gasoline four-cylinder engine (already seen previously) that has a power of 120 horsepower, creating a link between 100hp engines and 155hp. An intermediate and very interesting engine for any option of the Rigel Odiel.

Rigel Odiel Cabrio: its shapes give the vehicle great elegance, these are combined with the efficiency of its new 120 hp engine and a gray and black leather interior. The model has a new adjusted suspension that gives it greater grip in curves, a touch of sportiness and is complemented by an automatic rigid canvas top.

Rigel Odiel Coupé: The Odiel three-door coupé arrives on the market with its 155 hp engine willing to demonstrate all the power of its engine and the rigidity of its chassis combined with new suspension settings, perfect for dominating any European road. The interior is exactly the same as the one we enjoy in the Rigel Sport Sedan, only with the variation of its seats that can be chosen in red or black. The exterior is finished off with a front spoiler, new three-spoke wheels with a sporty character and a golden-ocher color reaffirm its unique and indomitable character.

Rigel Prisma (USA 1996)

The Rigel company landed in North America and Mexico in 1994, it was able to place a 5-meter SUV on the market to make itself known and capture the attention of future customers. Years later, in 1996, it is ready to put all his effort into a new best seller. With this strategy, it places a 4-meter compact in five and three-door versions called RIGEL PRISMA. After a couple of years, American, Canadian and Mexican citizens know or have heard of Rigel, now they have seen its models, its quality and its price, those who trust the European brand will be able to do it again with a compact that comes to compete with other big brands such as the Japanese ones.

The Rigel Prisma is more than a compact for the European brand, a new stage in design opens, creating a new path that the following models to come will follow. The new design team is committed to rounded lines and aerodynamic coefficients, eliminating or leaving behind the more straight angles and components such as optics with simple and square shapes.

Main and new features of the Prisma

Creation of a new platform to create a more rigid chassis and a more deformable body, all to provide the vehicle with greater safety in the event of an accident.

Design based on the fluidity of movement and curves, creating a new resistance to wind and improving the aerodynamic coefficient for fuel savings.

The option to mount power steering with electrical system, Rigel abandons the power steering with hydraulic rack and pinion. The new rack propelled by an electric motor eliminates large components, lowers costs and allows very precise driving, improving driving.

Active and passive safety elements present in all model finishes, we have new crumple zones, side bars on doors, ABS on all models and redesign of the dashboard with the placement of soundproof rubber in all finishes.

New Engines.

The motorization of the new Rigel Prisma has been designed exclusively for the American market, using a compact four-cylinder block and made up of different elements that enjoy a simplicity to improve its reliability. These blocks will vary depending on the trims between 1,300 cm³ and 1,600 cm³ with power ranging between 70 and 110 horsepower and all of them orchestrated by automatic gearboxes. For the American markets, the incorporation of any diesel engine is not foreseen.

Trims

As usual in Rigel, the range will be structured according to the budget and the needs of the customers, being able to choose very simple versions and high-end versions with a sporty character.

GL: The entry-level model has all the essentials for everyday life, creating a perfect vehicle for the majority of ordinary citizens. It mounts a 1300cc 70-horsepower gasoline engine with a five-speed automatic gearbox. This configuration is designed for maximum savings in the pocket, eliminating, for example, metallic paints, paints on the bumpers, trims or wheels and some interior elements, making it simpler, more basic and cheaper. For Rigel, being economical does not mean unsafe, which is why this model has ABS brakes, double front airbags and new deformable systems.
Its estimated price (automation cost + 0.08% benefits) starts at $10,100

GLX: the GLX version is for those who need a little more, the difference is created by the “X” for a higher price you can take a Prisma with a 1500 cm³ engine and 80 horsepower. Exterior in metallic colors, painted bumpers and its interior fully upholstered with quality plastics and new noise-insulating rubber. The security elements are the same as in the GL model.
Its estimated price (automation cost + 0.08% benefits) starts at $11,300

GLS: Top of the range, it is designed for ride comfort and sporty driving. This engine is a 1600 cm³ block that together with its turbo generates 110 horsepower. The interior is exclusive to this sporty version, combining leather and fabric elements creating a special atmosphere. The suspensions have been adjusted to make them firmer and obtain high performance when cornering, it is also a few centimeters closer to the ground.
Its estimated price (automation cost + 0.08% benefits) starts at $12,800

The Prisma will be available at the end of 1995 for reservation and the first units will arrive in 1996. Soon we will launch versions to complete the range in the American market, such as the sedan model. The Prisma has a 5-year or 60,000-mile warranty (expandable)

Incredible work, I’d buy one.
The new car is a huge step up from the Tinto, showing the experience the company has now. The Primus Persua and Globus Bravura are now seriously under pressure.

Rigel DAKAR TEAM

The Dakar Rally, formerly the Paris-Dakar Rally, is an annual rally raid competition organized by the ASO starting on December 26, 1978 and held during the first weeks of January or, in some editions, started the last week of December for finish the following year. It is considered one of the toughest and most famous rallies in the world.

In 1996, the Paris Dakar Rally began in Spain, in the Andalusian city of Granada, and from there it would start on December 30, 1995, ending in Dakar on January 14, 1996 with a total length of 7,579 km of sand. , dunes and very dangerous areas

Rigel, with no presence in races competitions, in 1996 decides to propose the creation of a rear-wheel drive buggy to publicize the brand and carry out a marketing movement to enhance products such as the Pizarro, which in 1996 will receive an aesthetic and engine update.

As a result, the Spanish brand created a rear-wheel drive buggy that mounted a V6 engine derived from the Rigel Odiel, which was propelled by its 280 horsepower and gave it high competition status worthy of the 1996 Dakar. Called the “Drakar buggy”, it mounted a chassis aluminum tubular space and had habitability for driver and co-pilot

In its rear part was housed the powerful V6 engine, the refrigeration and tank systems, as well as accessories such as fire extinguishers, spare wheel or plates to unearth the vehicle.

Inside we can find a fully functional digital screen in beanNG drive and a co-pilot area with routebook and compass, to know and control the waypoints of the Dakar Rally 1996.

To master the vehicle through the sands you needed to be crazy or be one of the best drivers in the world. Rigel was not very successful in the Dakar Rally as no vehicle managed to finish the race and reach Dakar in January 1996. Uncontrolled acceleration and inefficient brakes created a time bomb of which two vehicles ended up in accidents and useless, the third withdrew due to technical failures on stage 8.

Although no RIgel managed to reach the goal, the Spanish team was optimistic with the result obtained and especially the positioning of the brand in the most difficult rally in the world, promising to return next year with an improved vehicle ready to crush the African dunes.

RIGEL PIZARRO II (1996 Update)

In the year 1996, Rigel has decided to bring to the market a complete revision of the well-known all-terrain Pizarro II. From 1996, more trims will be offered and the introduction of new, more powerful and efficient engines.

The biggest feature changes center around the roof, which has grown a few inches in height to make for a better-sized and more comfortable vehicle for taller customers. The part with the greatest aesthetic modifications falls on the rear optics, which have been redesigned and redistributed the indicator lights, which are now located in their lowest part.

Changes to note for 1996

  • Three new versions arrive on the market that are going to replace the two old ones that were presented a few years ago, following the logical line of Rigel presenting basic, intermediate and finally high-end models.

  • The Pizarro with five doors and the possibility of seven seats disappears, currently only going to be offered in its two-door modality with rigid or removable top.

  • MU5C engine: Rigel has developed a new five-cylinder engine that will replace the old six-cylinder, in this case you can find variable 2-liter gasoline and diesel with the new function of the intake manifold that will be variable and will place a ratio of perfect and powerful air for the entire range of engine revolutions, in addition to being more ecological and having lower fuel consumption.

  • In all models, the interior has been redesigned with small aesthetic changes and the introduction of a latest generation Compact Disc.

  • Like the Rigel Prisma, it has opted for the placement of an electric steering which reduces costs, eliminates parts and improves the reliability of the vehicle, without losing a real sensation of driving behind the wheel.

  • Work has been done specifically with the engineering department to achieve the optimal suspension combination that allows the Pizarro to go through any obstacle on the road, dirt, snow or mud areas.

  • New automatic windshield wiper system, thanks to a sensor placed in the upper part of the front window.

Main Trims for the European market 1996

Acceso: it is the access model to the range, it is the simplest and it will only have rear-wheel drive. Mechanics previously seen in the Rigel Tinto can be mounted with 65-horsepower diesel and 70-horsepower gasoline engines. It is a fairly simple version designed for rental cars, fleets of vehicles for companies or people with a low budget but who need an SUV for rural areas and some off-road that does not require extreme driving.

Sensacion: The perfect SUV with the great novelty of a rigid roof and enjoying a generous ground clearance, being able to implement both all-wheel drive and rear wheels. Designed for family use in urban areas but to be able to make short trips and avoid obstacles on or off roads. It combines an elegant exterior entirely in metallic paint and generous interiors and mounting four-speed automatic gearboxes. Perfect for lovers of the countryside, families and those who like to travel with their pet, thanks to its spaciousness and its large trunk.

Dynamic 4x4: The previous generation Dune Sport was an ode to adventure and 4x4, the Dynamic takes over but improves with the addition of new 5-cylinder engines and a new, more refined interior with orange colours. The high-end Pizarro II features the new MU5C (5-cylinder multi-purpose) engine as standard, being able to have a 120-horsepower gasoline version or a 90-HP diesel, in addition to enjoying security systems such as ABS, automatic windshield wipers, double airbags front and roll bars for the rear seats. In this version we can enjoy it with a rigid plastic top that can be replaced in less than two minutes and enjoy a convertible 4x4 for summer days and take a pleasant walk on the beach.

RIGEL PIZARRO II (Global Market)

The Rigel del Pizarro II was one of the first models of the Spanish brand to be marketed in many countries and outside the European Union. In the previous post we have seen the most popular finishes in the European market and in some areas such as Turkey.

The ease of being able to modulate the chassis and adapt it to different conditions and terrains made the Pizarro a very multifaceted car and for this reason, as an example, we are going to show you two versions that are very different from each other but that cover parts of international markets.

Japanese market: Japanese customers value quality and performance, therefore, the models that must stand out and compete with national models must be of the highest quality and incorporate great features to attract a new audience. An example could be the Rigel Pizarro II Noble, which mounted the new five-cylinder engines and a four-wheel drive, also placing a beautiful two-tone color and different accessories to accommodate the Japanese lifestyle.

Polar: it is a very exclusive version and at a high price that has been designed to work in extreme conditions and icy surfaces with temperatures below zero. We could classify it as an exploration vehicle and local Icelandic teams have made a strong commitment to its modification and adaptation to the terrain, to highlight its huge all-terrain tires, its high ground clearance, a snorkel to be able to wade through rivers. winch in case of emergency and 360 exterior perimeter lighting. As a curiosity in those states or countries that allow it, an antisos shotgun can be placed on the tailgate, widely used in counterattacks by polar bears in Iceland.
